Word is, there is another overseas tour this year. They played LA and San Francisco last year. If in the States, just go and see them. This band is worth the journey. They are Beyond Awesomeness Live. Seen them three times in London.
Glad you did them again. They deserve the exposure. It's a shame they're not more widely known. In my opinion , one of the best new bands in the world right now.
This is the first album they wrote themselves being as their past record label wouldn't let them write their own Music (though even the first three albums were written by others, still sounded awesome). They seemed to have found their footing extremely fast and haven't missed yet. You've only seen the videos and probably a live performance or two from them but if you want to hear them really shine, listen to any album from Domination to any of their newer ones. If you pick and choose random songs, they'll still be great, but you don't get the same experience. Edit: I said 'yet'. I'm at the point to where I'm convinced they will never miss because every song off of every album as well as every single is a banger.
Play, Take me Higher, Moratorium, and Puzzle live are my favorites. If u didnt know Band-Maid started from an idea Miku (who used to work in maid cafes) had about making a rock band in maid outfits. She recruited Kanami the guitarist from seeing her online videos. Kanami suggested Akane to be the drummer because they did had done perfomences together. Then Akane brought in Misa for bass, they were going to music school together. They had small shows and Miku realized maybe another vocalist would be better so they held tryouts and Saiki joined initially without knowing maid costumes were part of it. She showed up to their first session and Miku told her to wear the maid dress and she was put off on the idea but eventually came around when she saw the music they would make. Also Miku had never played guitar until after their first album in 2014 when Akane suggested a 2nd guitar would really help their sound so she has only been playing/learning guitar for 4 years all. Sorry for the long winded comment
Play, Moratorium, Take Me Higher, Onset (instrumental) - Really can't go wrong with a live performance of these or the vast majority of their catalog. Their recent live performances are upper shelf
Personally I'm amazed a band as Good as this has been around since 2013. Had atleast 3 World tours uptill now & somehow I only found out about them last year. Guess I've been living under a rock here in UK could have seen them 3 times instead only once
"Play" and "Onset" are probably their two best live ones, IMO. But if I'm being completely honest, I've never heard a live song from them that wasn't awesome.
There's new rules on copyright law coming so that artists get paid so hopefully all those fancam vids will be withdrawn. More official live video is what we want. The Baby Metal fancams in particular are terrible.
All their live stuff is great. I always recommend "Don't You Tell Me" or "Onset". The flower is just part of Saiki's (pronounced psychy) maid costume. Miku (pronounced me ku) has a red one.
Glad you are enjoying Band Maid. Believe it or not, they are not very well known in Japan and from my understanding have a much larger international following.
Band-Maid are part of a long line of all-female or mostly female Japanese rock bands, everything from punk to hardcore to garage to thrash to heavy metal and pretty much everything you can think of. They're not unusual in that respect, they're just amazing. Babymetal are in a category all their own, there was never really anything like them in Japan or anywhere else, so you can't really compare Band-Maid to Babymetal, or anyone to Babymetal for that matter.
You like those little features of Misa playing the Bass? Watch the live versions! "Take me Higher" is the other one I like to start people on along with this one, Dice. Band-Maid is the best band from Japan, if not the world right now. But if you like this, you have to check out the rest of the J-Rock/Metal scene. Aldious, Bridear, Doll$Boxx, Unlucky Morpheus. Hit those and more will pop up. But you also need to check out Aterism. Start with Rising Moon. I just saw these kids Sunday night in LA. The most amazing guitarist I've ever seen!
Absolutely check out their live performances. Unlike a lot of bands, BAND MAID is actually better live. Their musicianship is always on point and they get to play around a bit more, musically, on stage than they do in the studio. You also get a better feed about just how much they enjoy performing. As a suggestion, I will echo what a lot of others have suggested. That would be their song Play. Here's a link: ua-cam.com/video/YeiIju_t1D8/v-deo.html I also like their live performances more because they tend to mix them a little differently, bringing the bass and drums up a bit, making them more part of the overall song instead of just background. Of course, this makes sense. When you have a bassist (MISA / mee-sa) and a drummer (Akane / Ah-kah-neh) who are this skilled and talented you don't relegate them to the background. As for the Babymetal comparison, there really isn't any. It's the old apples and oranges thing all over again. Babymetal is more of a performance band / group. With Babymetal you have the girls singing and dancing in front of an incredible rock / metal band. With them it's just as much about the show as it is the music. BAND MAID, at it's core, is just an incredible rock band. With them it's more about the music, less about the flashy shows. Three of the four musicians (MISA - Bass, Akane -drums and Kanami (Kah-nah-me) - lead guitar) are all classically trained musicians and, as far as I'm concerned, are all top notch musicians. Miku (Mee-koo) Who started the band and now plays rhythm guitar and does backup vocal (Twin tails + red flower in her hair) started as the lead singer. When she decided to add Saiki to replace her on led vocals, she picked up the guitar and started playing rhythm. The only things that tie them together is that their both out of Japan, have that female element, the cute outfits and they're both rock / metal bands. I'm not saying they aren't both great, they're just great in different ways. Anyway, this ended up longer than it needed to be. Thanks for the great reaction. Keep up the good work.
For a Live version to react to - try "Play" or "Puzzle" or Domination - frankly any live version will Amaze you they really are a super band.....so far I have yet to hear a bad song from them (They are just that good!) thanks
They are definitely better live. I suggest "Play", "Puzzle", "Moratorium", "Freedom" or the instrumental "Onset". But you can't go wrong with any of their live material.
Live is definitely the way to go. Try ---Alone, Chose me, Puzzle, Moratorium,.... Oh hell, just about any track will do....Great balls-out rock... Wait.... Can girls play balls out??? Hell yeah..
When it comes to 'live' I'd go for my current favourite (especially if you like the solo bass and guitar performances): Don't You Tell ME: ua-cam.com/video/foqErbEw05o/v-deo.html Pretty much all of the live stuff is brilliant, though!
following this band's progression is kinda dumbfounding.. they've been putting stuff out on a yearly basis, and they've been on a constant, steep, upward trajectory.. in terms of musicianship and songwriting.. it seems like they've always killed it live. the past two albums have been almost entirely written by them.. previously they had material written for them by contracted songwriters, but they still did the arrangements. i'm very curious to know what the original songs sounded like as they were presented to the band, vs the final product. my preference is to hear the studio version of a song before the live version.. but yeah.. it's hard to go wrong with any song from BAND-MAID. the footage from the show with the multiple vertical screens in the background seem to have the best audio mix
Yes, the sold-out concert held at Shin-kiba Studio Coast, Tokyo on Nov.24(fri), 2017 which concluded their Autumn-Winter 2017 tour. Luckily I was at the show standing right next to the main camera (guess, there were 4 or 5 all together). Bought WORLD DOMINATION special A-edition CD which came with Blu-ray (contains the live footage of selected 15 out of 25 songs performed almost no-stop in 2hrs that night). I guess it is the only concert they used 5 vertical LED displays and Pyro special effects so far. You can feel their emotions because Studio coast was the largest solo concert venue(2500 cap.) for them so far then and it was sold out Btw, Misa, the bass player ,who watched the Smashing Pumpkins at the same venue on Aug.10, 2010 as a high-school band guitarist. She's said to have determined to be a good bassist someday who is good enough to perform at Studio Coast. Saiki, the leading vocalist, had her vocal cord polyp being removed successfully in July before the tour started. So, you will witness her emotions erupt happily during the concert knowing that having gone through the entire concert tour she knew she's ready to sing 100 percent without hesitation.

Seen them three times in London.
I saw Sokoninaru last month, another incredible Japanese band. Mutant Monster is another great band live, saw them in Nagoya and London.
Best damn rock band on the planet today. "Seize the moment!" Sacramento loves Band-Maid.
Can't understand a word they say, but it just doesn't matter. They tear it up.

Saiki has always sported the blue rose, and Miku a red one. Miku is Saiki’s soul counterpart, ying and yang if you will. Together, they are Siku!💪🏻🤘🏻
