You can tell that Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright genuinely love those genres based on how much care they put into writing tongue in cheek satires that are fantastic entries in their own right.

My favorite Edgar Wright movie, not just Cornetto trilogy. The comedy, twists and turns make it so very entertaining. I hope Brandon watches World's End too. Some people don't like it. I think that one is his weakest film but still really really good.

The actors all clearly care about the film and are putting in great performances that are dramatic, yet funny; witty, yet deep. Going back to the pacing, it ramps up at just the right speed to make you feel satisfied at the end, but it also incorporates enough twists and turns from a normal "whodunnit?!" movie to keep you engaged and guessing until the payoff. The "trilogy" is called "Cornetto Triolgy"( shorten ), because in every movie you can spot a cornetto ice cream at somepoint in the movie. ( i'm writing this before watching the whole video so if you mentioned the name of the unnoficial trilogy or any other information that i wrote here at somepoint in the video i apologize, just really like to interact and give some info that i know =) )
The colouration of the Cornetto was also significant. Red for Shaun of the Dead because zombies/blood. Blue for Hot Fuzz because it centers on the Police Department. Green for The World's End (and of course I won't spoil the significance there just in case :) )
@@cyberbilly1 Red: Strawberry (Shaun of the Dead) - Early in the movie, in the convenience store Blue: Vanilla (Hot Fuzz) - Middle of the movie, in the cop car Green: Chocolate Mint (The World's End) - End of the movie, ... (not tellin' ;))
Yeah, it took me a while, to finally get my hands on a copy of World´s End, because I couldn´t find it digitally, I actually bought the DVD back then, which even our local video store, which has been closed for years by now, extra had to order for me. You can probably imagine, it turned out to be the most disappointing one for me of the three. I think I just remembered the toilet scene at the beginning with a smile on my face, but that´s it! Hot Fuzz on the other hand... May very well be the funniest movie ever made for me! I´d put it right next to or rather slightly above stuff like Tropic Thunder or Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! And after this, I could never watch Timothy Dalton in ANY other role anymore. I just couldn´t take him seriously anymore, because he did such a fantastic job as Skinner and his German voice actor really did a magnificent job conveying this, too with all his weasel words throughout the movie. Doctor Who sadly proved my right on that, with its series 4 finale...
I love what this says about how Londoners feel about people living in small villages like this. I lived over there for a decade and toured around to a ton of small places as a musician. The feeling you get is legitimately like this sometimes, adorable but also an undercurrent of something dark and secretive. It's brilliant the way this captures that.

This movie has one of the funniest unexpected scenes I have seen. When Timothy Dalton trips at the end and gets skewered, then says "this really hurts". Haha
A biblical reference that everybody gets wrong because the translation from Latin to English does not hold up very well in modern times. Pale doesn't mean white, pale means weak and sickly. In the book of Revelation, the white horse is ridden by War.
The one thing I love is when Danny is questioning him "have you done this?" and "have you done that?", Angel ends up doing all of those things at the end of the movie.
It’s the Angel character arc, and really one of the themes if not the major theme. Just as Danny is changed into a better cop, Angel is changed into Danny’s ideal of a Hollywood cop. Notably, it’s after the fake murder when Angel realizes his by-the-book methods haven’t been effective. That’s also a nice bit if “hero’s journey” plot structure--Angel is transformed through a death experience. This might be pseudo philosophical claptrap, but . . . It makes Angel’s transformation from one type of super cop to the other fantasy type believable, no?
I love this movie, not just because it's extremely well-directed, acted, written, and the editing is phenomenal; but because it's a reversal of the "Career-person moves from the city to the country and gets charmed by their small-town values"
Simon Pegg was also one of the writers on the third Star Trek Movie, Star Trek Beyond. So many set ups and call backs in this movie - did you catch the one from the fair? "Take out all the little people, and you can walk off with the cuddly monkey", he took out all the towns folks, and walked off with his new besty!
I’ve seen two of your reviews now, and they’ve both been for films I love. I have to say that I’m delighted with your eloquent appreciation for them. 👍
Stanley Kubrick did the same thing, he put a soundtrack record of 2001 in the scene where Alex and the Droogs are in a record store in A Clockwork Orange.
Hot Fuzz is one of my favourite comedies and my favourite out of the Cornetto trilogy , love how you sort of predicted but also was genuinely surprised when things happened.
This film is a perfect blend between an Ealing comedy and the Wicker man to the point where Edgar Wright even casted Edward Woodward from the original Wickerman (1973) to play the doctor.
Simon pegg cowrote the whole trilogy with edgar wright. Their movies are brilliant bc they take what they enjoy from each genre and take them to another level. The use of callbacks, quick montages and dialogue is so detailed and precise. You can see the infancy of this trio's work (nick frost, the bff rounds it out) in their tv show spaced. It will only make u more awestruck 😍
First time?! Oh man you're so lucky. What I'd give to watch this for the first time again. Also the best part about the final battle is that there's no deaths. Angel takes them all in alive.
The amount of callbacks from the first act in the third act in this movie is staggering. You have to watch it a couple of times just to notice them all.
I live in a town very similar. We have a local pub, always turned a blind eye to under aged drinking and to smoking when the smoking ban was introduced, There even was a local police officer who would often come in and drink until the early hours and smoke indoors, too.
This came out before Scott Pilgrim. The editing in Scott pilgrim was made to complement the comic style since most of the shots in that movie are near perfect replications of the comic frames
Seriously. You need to watch "True Romance". You like seeing great actors shine, you like seeing Gary Oldman disappear into a role, you like Tarantino's writing and Tony Scott's producing and you like films that surprise you with something different. For all these reasons and more you NEED to watch True Romance.
YES! I absolutely love this film, easily one of my top 5 comedies ever! Also, the guy who played the Santa who stabbed Nicholas Angel in the hand was actually played by Peter Jackson.
@@BrandonLikesMovies Tons of people walked out of this movie because of how slow it was through the first and second acts. One thing I'd like to add is how much you can tell Edgar Wright is making an homage to action movies. Love that he had a James Bond as a villain (Skinner) and gave him a proper chase and fight sequence. Also another cool tidbit is David Arnold doing the amazing score and he composed many of the James Bond movies!
My favorite running bit in the film is when the old cop hears a sexual innuendo, he nonchalantly says the one word obvious. Example, when Doris says something about having a Gobble, the old cop says, "Cock." This happens several times in the movie.
When I saw this in the theater and it got to the part where he yells By the Power of Greyskull, I burst out laughing and then realized I was the only one laughing in the whole room.

I think I’m also laughing at the fact that you’re just as amused and confused and surprised at everything that’s happening in all of the same ways that the rest of us were when we first watched it! You’re correct - - Edgar Wright is a freaking genius, the editing is absolutely out of this world, and there’s really no movie like this. A masterpiece of… everything! Oh - and you are no editing slouch yourself! Your editing made it twice as funny. This movie always cracks me up and so did your reactions! Keep up the great work!
My favorite line in the movie is when the flower lady gets killed and there’s a shot where she’s sitting there with shears in her neck and the guy is like “You’re saying this WASN’T an accident” F*cking hilarious.
"For the Greater Good.." There are just so many little caught call-backs right from the beginning for example: every question Danny asks Nicholas they end up doing later in the movie; the order of meeting people on his first day is the exact same when he comes back.

I'd strongly recommend you check out Spaced, a brilliant little sitcom that was the first collaboration between Wright, Pegg and Frost - only ran for 2 short seasons, but every episode is great and you can really see Wright developing the style he would later use in the Cornetto trilogy.
This movie is great to rewatch once you know the story. Also I love The Worlds End. If you want more of their work you should check out their tv series called Spaced.

It's pretty hard to see it at first, i only noticed after searching online. Maybe you can spot where it is in this movie or on the next one! Once again excited to see your reaction!
@@cyberbilly1
Red: Strawberry (Shaun of the Dead) - Early in the movie, in the convenience store
Blue: Vanilla (Hot Fuzz) - Middle of the movie, in the cop car
Green: Chocolate Mint (The World's End) - End of the movie, ...
I prefer the name Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy
I was going to mention this lol.... I want a Cornetto now
I love what this says about how Londoners feel about people living in small villages like this. I lived over there for a decade and toured around to a ton of small places as a musician. The feeling you get is legitimately like this sometimes, adorable but also an undercurrent of something dark and secretive. It's brilliant the way this captures that.
The editing in Edgar Wright movies is always on point!
Absolutely top notch!
@@BrandonLikesMovies If you haven't, you should watch the youtube channel "Every frame a painting"'s take on Edgar Wright and his editing. Extremely informative and insightful. It's actually a lot of stuff that you pick up on!
Bro, I fell in love with it in Shaun of the Dead, THIS movie though took that even to a whole other level! When he´s on that train ride to Sandford at the beginning, that little reception bar on the top right of his cell phone - my brother noticed that right when we first watched the movie, I HAD TO REWIND IT *FOUR* TIMES UNTIL I ACTUALLY GOT IT, TOO!!! ;-D
@@seannwalker Exaclty the video, I still remember most vividly and fondly from them. And I did NOT rewatch it very often, last time must have actually been years ago again! So yeah, that´s 100% a recommendation worth checking out, regardless. I just imagine, it must be getting harder and harder for Brandon to pick stuff and bide his time, given how this channel has grown so far.
Hope he chooses right... ;-p
Sorry, I just saw it again at 4:19, it´s actually on the left side of the phone screen.......
This movie has one of the funniest unexpected scenes I have seen. When Timothy Dalton trips at the end and gets skewered, then says "this really hurts". Haha
The white horse riding is actually a biblical reference. Death riding a pale horse.
eh... I'm getting bad GoT season 8 vibes
Which is funny cause he doesn’t kill anyone in the end.
@JakeQwi and yet no one died. though you could argue he meant the death of the village's winning streak
@Leon Russell yarp, indeed
A biblical reference that everybody gets wrong because the translation from Latin to English does not hold up very well in modern times. Pale doesn't mean white, pale means weak and sickly.
In the book of Revelation, the white horse is ridden by War.
'Hot Fuzz' is one of those films you can watch over, and over, and over again. Loved the reaction Brandon!
14:00 This bit's even funnier when you know that both of those accents are barely exaggerated, countryside accents are something else
Exactly I've met people in my own county that I couldn't understand.
I just noticed how when Angel rides into town on a white horse, the shotguns on his back look like angel wings.
The one thing I love is when Danny is questioning him "have you done this?" and "have you done that?", Angel ends up doing all of those things at the end of the movie.
ALL of them. lol
"Yeah, cuz we all sell apples round here don't we?"
"You Dad sells apples Andy."
"And rasberries!"
You should check out "Attack the Block." It's a sci fi comedy that stars John Boyega and Nick Frost; that film deserves more love.
This is entirely accurate!
Hell yeah!!! That’s a annual movie for me now.
The aliens in that film are so crazy!
Yes!!!
Such a great movie with such a tight script and so much fun.
He also co-wrote the other two movies in this trilogy with Edgar Wright.
Here are Simon Pegg and Edge Wright on writing HOT FUZZ : ua-cam.com/video/0P-Is2EJpEA/v-deo.html
@Michael Mathers he's obviously talking about the new ones. Don't be such an ass
@Michael Mathers Your attitude implies that you're the one who was born after the original Star Trek movies came out.
I’ve seen two of your reviews now, and they’ve both been for films I love. I have to say that I’m delighted with your eloquent appreciation for them. 👍
When Danny is looking at DVD's in the supermache, one of them is Shaun of the Dead with Pegg being hid by the sales sticker!!
this is great :D
And they had to ask both Simon and Nick if their likeness could be used for that scene.
Stanley Kubrick did the same thing, he put a soundtrack record of 2001 in the scene where Alex and the Droogs are in a record store in A Clockwork Orange.
Wait. I thought that was a French fancy joke or something. Yall actually call it that?
@@-gemberkoekje-5547 I think it's a chain in Europe.
"It's too obvious man. There's no way it's him."
And that's the joke...
...well, one of them.
If you like visual comedy then you should check out Kung fu hustle by Stephen Chow. It a great martial arts comedy from Hong Kong.
When I first heard about kung fu hustle I thought it sounded horrendous. Then I watched it and it was fantastic.
Amazing movie. Especially the knife throwing scene.
For a second there I thought you meant Kung Pow..... lol
I haven't thought of this movie in ages. Need to rewatch it too!
Absolutely love Kung Fu Hustle, one of my favourites for sure.
*Sees Brandon post a Hot Fuzz Reaction Video*
"by the power of Greyskull...."
Reverend Shooter is also Belloq from Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the lost ark.
Awesomely spotted.
It was KILLING me. Ty
And also Ivan Ooze from The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie.
The Dr is also the main villain Jack Travis in Lethal Weapon 3.
The peace lily is a nod to Leon: the professional which you should definitely watch if you haven’t already
This came out before Scott Pilgrim. The editing in Scott pilgrim was made to complement the comic style since most of the shots in that movie are near perfect replications of the comic frames
"A great big bushy beard!"
Seriously. You need to watch "True Romance". You like seeing great actors shine, you like seeing Gary Oldman disappear into a role, you like Tarantino's writing and Tony Scott's producing and you like films that surprise you with something different. For all these reasons and more you NEED to watch True Romance.
My favorite movie of all time, hence my profile picture.
Not to mention the soundtrack
Totally agree - once of my all time favorites - the Dennis Hopper scene with Christopher Walken is perfect.
YES. True Romance is so fucking good.
True romance has Tarantino all over its
This is one of my favorite movies of all time, it's the perfect combination of comedy, action, excitement & just editing/directing genius
YES! I absolutely love this film, easily one of my top 5 comedies ever! Also, the guy who played the Santa who stabbed Nicholas Angel in the hand was actually played by Peter Jackson.
That's awesome haha
@@BrandonLikesMovies Tons of people walked out of this movie because of how slow it was through the first and second acts. They missed out on the massive series of action scenes at the end and IMO I think that makes this movie even more enjoyable. There are probably people out there still who saw the beginning of the movie but have no idea how it ends.
@@TheHighSorcerer I consider anyone who walks out of this movie at any point insane lol
@@BDog54 Yeah they went into it thinking it was going to be action-comedy all the way through, and since the first two acts of the movie are kind of a slow burn they must have gotten bored.
This was shot in a town called Wells in Somerset (about ten minutes from where I live)
Amazing film, in fact the entire cornetto trilogy (or blood and ice cream trilogy) is brilliant.
I’m sure you’ll love “The worlds end” also.

Olivia Colman is so fun in this movie!
Love a little girl on girl.
Also, the priest was Belloq in Raiders of the lost ark.
Hilarious enough, although most of the "deaths" look lethal none of the townspeople are ever killed by Angel, A perfect by the book cop.
"by the book" if the book was on fire and the only thing left was a line saying 12a45b62m3: dont kill people
Even the chandelier and the bear trap? They weren't lethal?
And, obviously, the sea mine...
@@chrissonofpear1384 there both seen during the paperwork montage at the end getting there mugshots taken, the bear trap is still attached to his head.
The sea mine going off is not his fault the guy stumbled onto it after running through the evidence room door and set it off accidentally.
@@chrissonofpear1384 Nope, Hot Fuzz has the longest non-lethal shootout in movie history.
Simon pegg’s face @ 11:56 is one of the hardest I’ve ever laughed in a movie theater.
By the way all the "kills" by the police officers are non lethal shots. Might be a bit political at the moment but it was made to be a contrast to the movie cops who shot and ask questions later. This movie has so many layers
Except the guy killed by a sea mine!
@@nicktechnubyte1184 Ahh, but he did that himself!
@@Doctor_Kissworthy technically, Angel did it by hitting him with an empty trash bin causing him to trip and fall on the sea mine!
@@nicktechnubyte1184 Ahh, but if he hadn't attacked Angel, he wouldn't have been in the position to be propelled into the evidence room in the first place...
I’ve seen the movie 30ish times, found something new every time yet didn’t understand the joke this well.
One of my favorite bits!
Simon Pegg co-wrote the whole Cornetto Trilogy, Paul, and the most recent Star Trek film.
I enjoyed how much you genuinely enjoyed this movie.
When I saw this in the theater and it got to the part where he yells By the Power of Greyskull, I burst out laughing and then realized I was the only one laughing in the whole room.
Where in the film does this happen please? I've haven't seen it in years

I think I’m also laughing at the fact that you’re just as amused and confused and surprised at everything that’s happening in all of the same ways that the rest of us were when we first watched it! @Boop honestly dude full of amazing film parodies and genuinely funny show, only ran for 2 seasons, Pegg and Frost before they started doing films.
I'd strongly recommend you check out Spaced, a brilliant little sitcom that was the first collaboration between Wright, Pegg and Frost - only ran for 2 short seasons, but every episode is great and you can really see Wright developing the style he would later use in the Cornetto trilogy.
If you're into the trilogy there is no way you won't find some joy in this series. Such a good story, great characters and good laughs.
