Working in a nursing home and helping people to pass over, literally holding my old folks' hands as they took their last breath because their families did not make it in time, was my wake up call. Make the most of your time. Live. Love like it's your last day.
My summary: • Memento Mori: You are going to die. • Death can happen anytime. • Life is short. • You are dying a bit every day. Every day you are 1 day closer to death. • Be keenly aware of your limited days in your life. • You will be forgotten. Every sign of you will be eventually forgotten. • Use your time to do what matters. • Time is non-renewable. Each moment that passed is never going to return. • Every moment is opportunity to live the fullest as the best version of yourself. It is an unique opportunity because this moment will be gone forever. What are you going to do with this opportunity? Use it or lose it. • Do not wake up one day with anger and dismay and ask: where did all the time go? • Notice the signs. Notice your face in the mirror. It has aged with time. This is to remind you that time is passing by and you are moving toward death. Mediate on your death every day. This is to charge you for success and not to depress you.
It definitely has some profound wisdom. If you dig longer and deeper tho, you may find some contradictions. But of course, it can be up for interpretation. Well, nothing is perfect. And life is just too complex to define it by simple maxims, I think. But Stoicism is definitely something good to know, preferably from the young age.

I was really angry about some communications issues in my family when the notification about this video reached me. Now I feel calmer. Now I'll move to the next level, to try to make almost all the moments to count. Anyway, if I die today, I'm pretty proud of the person I´ve become.
We waste so much time on instant gratification, instead of chasing our dreams we use social media, porn, videogames, etc... But death can take everything away from us at any second, so why not go all out, if you died today, would you be proud of the person you were? If not, then change something, recently I realize I need to go all out with my UA-cam channel because who knows how much time I have left

This is where i see conflict in this part of the stoic philosophy. Because there can be no life without death and death without life. To be born and alive is also to have a death sentence. So to me instead of always focusing on death or when thats going to be. I choose to live and enjoy the moments that make your day meaningful and happy. Because to be anxious and think about imagined suffering is to suffer more than we have to. I offered to send it back, but they were based in Turkey, so they said to just keep it-maybe gift it to someone-though I knew everyone else thought it was weird to wear such an item. A few weeks later, my ring caught my mom's attention and I explained its significance. I thought she would be totally weirded out, but she just said, "What a wonderful reminder. As I've been getting older and had a few health scares, I feel Memento Mori could really help me appreciate the present. Can you send me the name of the jeweler?" "I can do ya one better-they accidentally sent me two rings." The year prior, she was diagnosed with diabetes, which scared her into completely changing her diet and exercise practices, reversing her diabetes and causing long-overdue weight loss. The downside was that her wedding ring no longer fit-but my pinkie ring fit her ring finger perfectly. I gave her the identical ring and she now wears it in place of her wedding ring. @@olavonogueira8944 You know what's the root cause of procrastination? It's anxiety. Fear of failure, problems. With constantly reminding yourself of death, essentially you are 'fighting fire with fire', overpower smaller anxieties with a bigger anxiety. I do not think it's a way to reach ataraxia. Maybe it would be wise to calmly deal with anxieties that cause procrastinations in the first place instead of adding more anxiety to force yourself?
I think the idea is to embrace the inevitability of death. When you remind yourself that this is going to end, it can actually help you focus on the now, which is what truly matters. I get where you're coming from , i am there too, but i one day hope i will reach that level of acceptance.
@@kyriakosch Yeah, I am more inclined to accept the inevitability and be at peace with death, rather than constantly remind yourself of death as a crutch to force yourself to do stuff in life.

The biggest lie: "We only have one life". Truth, we will live forever in a different form. This life is the proving ground for the next. Instead of living life as if it will soon be over. Live life with abundance and our reward in the next life will be based on our choices in this present life. You will still be productive in this life with a better mindset. These are the teachings of Christ Jesus, the greatest of all teachers.

Why is living life to the fullest a good thing? Is it better just to be present in your life or to be productive? Is there a balance?
Thank you for the early 50th birthday present 😁

My man w the weighted vest. Badassery. Ruck w that thing! A great feeling after. Momento Mori. Only Christ reigns.
Even the stoic becomes marketing
Sadly money is something that is fundamental for all of us now, even the indigenous people need money because the world is rule by it.
Well it isn't harming me Or anyone so I don't really care for it
Meh, how else could it be under capitalism? Literally everything is commodified, even human relationships.
Isn't it profoundly wrong to measure everything in money?
Virtually everything, everywhere, under every system is transactional. Always has been, always will be.
Awesome content :)
Thanks man, somehow this is the first time I have heard "memento mori" but its fascinating and not to sound cheesy but might be that missing piece if you will
Awesome!
Been married for 25 years i don't think Death is an option when it breaks the bonds of marriage and long term commitments, easy for people to say it with a sense of relief when they don't have much to let go and miss😑
What Bhagwat Gita says Soul is eternal. Body gets dissolved and come with a expiry date and get torn. So stop being body conscious and liberate your self and be free.
Is very true 💯👍🏻
5:47 we don't see this enough!
Realising there's more behind than ahead is jarring and sobering.. Carpe diem..
Awesome
The problem is that I'm not afraid of death but afraid of living
The sooner the better for me
Please consider talking about MOMENTO VIVERE!☀️🌈❤️🏄♂️
Exactly what my doctor said... but gave me atleast 3 month .
And listen to Bon Iver❤️
Memento mori
Just turned 55 and the clock seems to be really speeding up. But actually I am slowing down. 😮💨
Listened 01.25.23
Memento Mori.
🙏💮😑❤️✨I enjoy this one .I will get that coin soon .
I signed up for the email... I never do that
lol the disney store was the first place I heard the phrase and that's when I googled it.
Death is the best motivator to live life now. While you are killing time, time is killing you. 😳😦
I do not need the reminder. My father died at the turn of the new year. My mom had a-fib last year. Many of my friends have died in the past few years. I’m not young. We will all die. It’s just a question of when and how.
Sometimes I'll be sitting there and out of nowhere I'll realize that this will all be over one day. It kinda overwhelms me in the moment. Then it subsides.
Any one else get the same feeling?
For sure..makes me quite emotional.
You are not alone
This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time....... think I saw that somewhere!!!!
We live now in human form.
Yes, I agree. But this mortal life is limited and finite. We have this life. That life isn't what
@@dorismahoney1440 We are body, soul and spirit right now. Our spirits never die. When we accept Christ, our spirits transform to a new creation, supernatural, and sealed. Think eternal, peace and love.
@@repairsolutions1559 Yes..
This part of our existence will have an end. This body will die. That is what it means. We believe this by faith. Except for the eyewitnesses of the resurrection of Christ my Lord. I know of no one n no one has come back to me. Thanks n bless you.
@@repairsolutions1559 how you know spirit exists? Why we have to accept Christ to be eternal. These are all beliefs not proven truths.I will take Painful truth over feel good lies
👍great
Sounds good...but...99 percent of the public does not have this mentality, is going to live forever, and everything matters. So...that's the reality that interact with everyday...
We don't know that they are gone forever. That is just a widely held belief nowadays

Death has lost its sting - Jesus Christ offers eternal life. Believe in Jesus for eternal life.
