I saw them live twice in june this year here in Germany. The first one was their own headliner show in a small venue (1.5k capacity i think) and the second was them opening for muse in a huge stadium. I must say that they don't treat it differently. It doesn't matter if it's their own show or if they are the opener. It also doesn't matter to them wether it's a small venue or a giant stadium. They always give 100%. If you decide to check out more of their music I recommend to always look up the lyrics translations after. Their performances are great already, but reading the lyrics really makes you understand why so many people love this band.
I reacted to luxury disease and could totally see how their lyrics are so inspiring can’t wait to hear more ! Also so funny I mentioned Muse in this video ! Even cooler ( I’ve said this before so many times hahahah ) muse went to the same secondary school as me and grew up in the town I’ve grown up in. They’ve done so much for our community, even played a concert here which was insane cuz it’s tiny haha but they did a huge show ! Was incredible . Also built an auditorium for the school which I performed in many times , cost them millions. So much love and respect for Muse so knowing OOR have opened for them just makes me love love both bands even more !
A little bit of history of the band: Toru and Ryota are childhood friends. They were in a hip-hop group as teens. When they were in highschool (around 2005), Toru decided he wanted to form a band. He got one of their upperclassmen, Alex to be lead guitar, and asked (forced) Ryota to learn the bass. Then he saw Taka performing with his then band, loved his voice and decided to ask him to be their vocalist. He went to (stalked) Taka's part time job and refused to leave until Taka agreed to come to his band's practice. At this time, Taka had run away from home after a fight with his famous singer/composer father. His father disapproved of him entering the entertainment world, because he knew how hard it could be (They've since reconciled after the band hit big as a prove that Taka made the right choice of career). Tomoya, who was introduced by a mutual acquaintance, joined last when their former drummer left. Alex left the band a few years later just before their major debut due to harrassment charge filed by a uni female student. Toru had to step up as their only guitarist, learned all the guitar parts of their songs, and performed it in front of the others to get their approval. Before, he played rhythm guitar and did backing vocals and rap parts (he doesn't rap anymore because he says it's a hassle to rap and play guitar at the same time). Taka once said that he needed the other three more than they needed him, and he wouldn't be here without the band. They're a close nit group, moreso like brothers than just bandmates, even now that they live in different countries. Ryota is married to Michelle, Avril Lavigne's sister, and lives with her and their daughter in Canada. Taka spends most of his time in the US, mostly for the business side of things (like getting with non-Japanese producers and songwriters to help with their albums). Tomoya and Toru live in Japan with their respective wives (Tomoya has 3 sons). Toru has produced songs for other Japanese artists. Funfact: they each have their bandmates initials tattooed on them, except for Toru who's afraid of needles LOL so he had their initials carved on his guitars. Touring is like a reunion for them and it shows how they enjoy each other's company, like in these Instagram videos you watched. I'm glad they keep their rock-paper-scissor tradition to determined who would pay for their meal. It has been going on for years since their early days, which I hope will continue for many years to come. 😊
Taka can sing like an angel and scream like a devil. He can definitely pull off different genres. And even tho they’re less known in europe and america, they’re definitely super big in asia, not only in Japan. They gonna start their tour in Asia this later half of the year, the venues are all stadiums and all of them are sold out. Hell they have to add a second day concert in Indonesia cause the tickets were sold out and many people haven’t got the tickets. I think they gonna achieve that level too in the europe and america soon 😊
I saw them live three times now and I can say that Taka has the best live vocals I have ever heard, they are even more stunning in person. ONE OK ROCK always delievers and since they play smaller venues in Germany | Europe they always come out to say hi to their fans (before and, or after the show!)
Fyi "Take what you want" & "We are" were in the same concert, and "We are" was the last encore song, and you're right that's a finale.. also fyi, taka was sick during this concert, and the concert was held for about 45 minutes due to his condition (that's why you hear his crack voice in take what you want)
56:24 Taka once said Toru (guitar) is like the visual representative of their band LOL and yes, I too fancy him a lot 😆 He and Taka are the driving force of the band, with equal passion of what they do and trust to each other. I love how solid their relationship is.
I said in another reply , but I love muse, even mentioned them in this video! How weird ! But yeh they come from my hometown so feel very proud when I think of Muse!
Wow that's a marathon you did. Love your reaction! I'm currently putting this OOR song on repeat, love it > One Ok Rock - Vandalize Acoustic (Japanese Version) With lyrics
As you commented, they are playing with the same energy in this big venue and small live house. (Recently, they have also participated in music festivals in Europe and North America, and have been touring live, and many of their videos have been uploaded to UA-cam.) Compared to Japan, the venue is very small, but their performances give them energy. does not change. So Japanese fans are very envious of their overseas live audience.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the concert that "The Beginning" was recorded at, Taka was sick and running a fever. But he still put on one hellova preformance!
I think they had a steady clime to fame, hiting bigger milestones every few years. They’a been together as a band for 17, almost 18 years. Toru (guitarist) and Ryota (basist) were childhood friends who met in a hiphop dance group, but around 2005 Toru decided to start a band and convinced Ryota to learn base. They got a guitarist, and Toru kinda stalked Taka to at least come to their practice and see if he would join. They had other drummer temporarily, but he left before they realy debuted, and Tomoya was recomended by some friend that there is a band looking for a drummer, abd he joined last minute xd (They also had another guitarist, but Alex had an upsie with law in 2008 and left, and went back to the US I think, and we don’t talk ab him much xd) - so they got togeather and debuted 2ep in 2006, got signed up into a lable in 2007. And you can find some really old recordings where they play in small club type venuse, probably few hundreds ppl. then thwy got bigger in 2010 (few thousand ppl at ‘This is my Bodukan’ concert) and then again in 2012, like Yokohama arena, 10-20 thousends ppl. Then in 2014 they grew to the point of performing at Yokohama stadium, which you saw, Mighty Long Fall, for about 35k(x2 days). Then Saitama Superarena in 2015, Special Live at Nagisaen 2016, I think we are at 60k? 2017: Japan Dome Tour, 2018: Orchestra Tour. They toured all around Azia since 2012, around the world since 2014, invited to Vans Warped Tour and their own tours. In 2020 their online streamed concert gathered well over 100k viewers (documentary making of it is on Netflix), their song colab with Ed Sheeran reached no. 9 in iTunes world wide. Yeah they don’t have that big of an audience world wide to fill stadiums, or the ppl are more spread out. But they are fearly known, and geting bigger - they colab with ppl like Linking Park, Sleeping with Sirens, Avra Lavigne, Sheeran, recently opened for MUSE with Evanescence, and I really hope for a colab with Youngblud and Manseskin 😍 Haha sorry for such a long story xd Ofc it’s such fun to watch somwonw gwt into and apreciate your fav artist, so I loved your video! 😁💕
The break from take what u want was for Chester from linkin park as they are friends and weeks before he died were going to tour together but couldn’t .
Taka and Kiiara made In The Stars (Eye of the Storm release) in tribute to Chester's passing, cuz during the Linkin Park 2018 Concert, Taka sang Somewhere I Belong while Kiiara sang Heavy They ended up meeting then collabed for In The Stars
Fyi One Ok Rock members were boygroup idols & dancers before they united and made OOR except Tomoya (the drummer + the oldest) Taka (Vocal) was a Member of NEWS and Toru (Leader/Guitarist) & Ryota (Bassist) were members of HEADS, both are japanese idol group in 2000s.... Also they made a short cover + dances of BTS - Dynamite, please react to it in next OOR Reaction
They are like the second gen of Larc en ciel, they were also a global rock band. ONEOKROCK hits you strong all of their songs are banger even side B's.
Hello, i don't know if you listened the studio version of "Cry Out" , it's actually Taka who screams all the scream parts that Toru does in live and it's amazing
Colors in the dark 😭

They are my favorite band for a reason ❤
