People just look at me weird when I tell them that this is my favorite Led Zeppelin song. But then again, people just look at me weird no matter what I'm saying...
Its a great freaking song. It also points to you being a zep fan who has listened to their music for a long time. My favorite zep song changes monthly. IMO this should have been on ITtOD. Its a great, great song. I love Plants mature voice on this. He played this live in albany in 1990 and I swear it was the best version I ever heard. Their is video on youtube but its not so good.
This was never performed live by the group prior to Bonzo's death, but this was an excellent performance by Plant. Had one of the best beats of any of their songs.
The original recording off of the Coda album has to my reckoning some of the most brutal drumming that Bonham ever put to tape. The kick drum work is insanely good. I've always enjoyed this footage here, you can see the joy on Plant and Page's faces to be playing live again.
I just read a bunch of the old comments on here. I can not believe how people hate on the music Robert and Jimmy produced in the '90s. I love just about all of it! Chris Blackwell, you need not defend yourself. Your work speaks for itself. This song absolutely ROCKS!
Because it’s too hard hitting for it. Jimmy and Bonzo planned to make a more hard rocking album because ITTOD was kind of soft. Coda was the closest we could’ve gotten to that next album since Bonzo died
Plant wanted W&T, Ozone baby and Darlene on In through the outdoor but Pagey and Bonzo said "hell no! This is not what we're doing!" I'm sure it created a lot of tension and animosity within the three of them. Those three songs has a lot of Bonzo's best drumming and kick pedal work ever!
What an awesome performance this was Plants voice was in top shape and he was really pushing it! it was such a blessing to hear them perform this benefit! Thanks so much for posting it.
the band playing with Plant and Page were Plant's solo band, back in the 90's! Knebworth 1990!!! Still one of the best live recordings of Page and Plant together.....awesome to see them having a ball together...luv JP's facials!! Priceless!
Hear hear ! I loved your drumming, even though you aren't Bonzo ;-) I play Wearing and Tearing in my band, Hats off to Led Zeppelin, and it is great fun!
I saw Page/Plant's "No Quarter" tour in Boston---to one side they had about 20 percussionists from Arabic countries, and on the other about 20 musicians playing strings from violins to cellos and more. What a SOUND! And a friend with me leaned over and said, "See? It takes FORTY PEOPLE to replace Bonham and Jones!"
Bonzo's Montreux was recorded in 1976, 5 years after the release of Zeppelin IV. And Wearing and Tearing was from the In Through the Outdoor sessions of 1978. In interviews, Page has discussed the fact that this track was influenced by the emerging aggressive punk sound, which would have happened well after Graffiti was recorded ('75-'76). This is not intended to be anything but the supply of accurate information. Thanks. (and yes, its just page showing up for 2 songs at a Plant set)
NOT Led Zeppelin, this is from Plants appearance at Knebworth 1990 Nordoff-Robbins award gig, I was there! Page turned up near the end, played a couple of Zep songs, and left. Highlight of the day for me, oh, and Candy Dulfer playing sax for Floyd.
Are you kidding?! His voice sounds super shot compared to when Zeppelin played there in August of '79. Had that damn song been on In through the outdoor like Darlene and Ozone baby were supposed to be as well, he mostly likely would've mastered it like the studio version if they chose to play it live there in Knebworth that year.
The summer of 1990. It was kinda like Live aid. Many bands, it was called "Knebworth '90".And went on all weekend. Mtv broadcast the whole thing. One of the last cool, good things they did.
WOW!!! I was at that gig!! It was a good day! Mate lost his shoe in the muddy river bed on the way out and had to walk 5 miles in his muddy sock in the rain whilst drunk!! :)
Effortless playing on the part of JP, and he definitely looks like he's having fun. Definitely dig this video, very obscure, remember it from the 90's, took me a bit to find.
Motaz - I'm sorry you don't ,ike my drumming but at least I was there and drumming with Robert and Jimmy. Where were you? Easy to slag people off from the comfort of your bedroom. Get out there and do something, prove yourself, THEN you get to comment.
Led Zeppelin never performed Wearing and Tearing live. The song wasn't officially released until after Bonham's death; before then the song remained in the vault. If it was, there aren't any live recordings or bootlegs that exist.
Hi brassmaster11 - There was a british comic strip with a Bonzo character in it, this was John Bonham's nickname. And to confuse things more, there was also the chimp called Bonzo in the movie that robarin mentioned.
Jimmy page got up & played with Robert Plants band of that year. Sounds pretty damn good to me. Plant & Page are well up & Rockin for this track. It Kicks well!
@GraachAhim i think that's unfair, the drummer done a great job here. This is the first time wearing and tearing is played live, what are page and plant supposed to do WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT
@1topers i was at this concert with it is knebworth 90 nordoff robins benefit gig one hell of a line up except for sir cliff paul mc elton john eric clapton genesis jimi page robert plant pink floyd etc
this is from knebworth 1990. it is plant's band with page as a special guest. it as for plant's manic nirvana tour. i know because i watched it live and taped it 20 years ago.
@VictorRechnageL This was from CODA which was released after Bonzo's death. IIRC this was from their reunion in 1990. From what I understand it's the only time they played this live. Dis Page & Plant all you want but for those of us too young in the 70's or not even born this is as close as we can get to watching Led Zep live...
those years rock has overwhelming at all. recently every musician drowns into alternative. these musics make me slightly damaged. who is the next rock n roll hero
Não é Led Zeppelin, é a apresentação do Robert Plant com sua banda no knebworth festival 1990, com a participações especia do Jimmy page em 2 músicas do Led Zeppelin:: Wearing & Tearing e Rock and Roll
What a bizarre deliberate choice of song to play. Makes you think they must have really liked it and regretted never getting to do it live. I dunno why people dismiss latter era LZ, I love this stuff.
You know, I just thought of something. What if the original guy that was supposed to be the singer for Zeppelin actually accepted? What if he had not recommended Plant? If Plant had never signed on, Bonham would have never have been discussed as a possible drummer. Led Zeppelin and really music would be so different. Page & Plant is the greatest duo, in my opinion, in musical history. For decades, even after Zep broke up, they still play together. They seem like true friends.
People just look at me weird when I tell them that this is my favorite Led Zeppelin song. But then again, people just look at me weird no matter what I'm saying...

This and Traveling Riverside Blues both from BBC sessions.
over years I like it more and more, easily a favorite track
not my favourite one but definitely one of the greatest , so ,much better than stairway
@@markkelly3859 Thanks! Good tip.

one of the sickest riffs i think LZ ever had, wish it got more respect/recognition than it does.
Im just now discovering this awesome song..
if Roberts vocals on the studio recording were dog crap it would
Jimmy Page knows how to look cool on stage
You're right mate 😁
never heard this song before.
Loved Led Zep for 50years. weird. finding new songs. love it.

Matthew Bell goddam right, except this song is from the 70s.
@@squankbo coda was early 80s?

@@samsoniteeeeyeah but coda is like an archive with unrealeased songs from the 70s
one of the best post zeppelin shows , jimmy plays real great here
i love this guitar sound
there you surely saw a spark of the flame that once was led zeppelin
I freaking love this song
Why they left this off In Through the Out Door I will never know or understand.
Because it’s too hard hitting for it. Jimmy and Bonzo planned to make a more hard rocking album because ITTOD was kind of soft. Coda was the closest we could’ve gotten to that next album since Bonzo died
They should have dumped Hot Dog for W&T. ITTOD would have been better for it.
@@luvittodeath7031 It, Darlene and Ozone Baby were actually cut for time constraints.

Robert Plaat live at Knebworth festival 1990!!!! Jimmy Page plays only Wearing & Tearing and Rock and Roll!!!!
And misty mountain hop. Happy jimmy played well.
Led Zeppelin is my favorite rock band. Shame that I never got a chance to see them at a concert. 😞
I was at this performance. Simply AMAZING!
Remember being glued to this….. On way to Allman Bros Band …. Sad times losing bonzo… This gave me hope
Page and Plant at knebworth 1990, I remember listening to it on Radio 1 live.
I watched this when it aired. I was so excited because they'd never played this live. They tore it up!
Jimmy is so happy! 😊
He enjoys being together!! Me too!! 😊🌹🤗🙋🏻♀️

Btw, GREAT snare sound, especially for the era. Love that dry "crack"!
