High heels! I'm pretty short too (5'2) and couldn't wear them for health reasons when I was younger. And though I love how they look I cannot walk in them at all. 😅
The best souvenirs are the ones where you have an actual purchase you need like a new pair of boots or sunglasses and you buy them on a trip. You can get something a bit different to what's available in the local mall plus the joy of buying it somewhere exotic and the attached memory of your holiday. I got my favourite skirt in Melbourne.
I pick up rocks from my travels for my rock garden and also ornaments for my Christmas tree. I love decorating my Christmas tree with my travels..it really bring me back to those memories and I love revisiting them every year.
I regret buying clothes in smaller size which were tight for me but I tought "it's so pretty, maybe one day I'll fit into it properly".. aaaand that never happened. Nowadays I only buy clothes which fit me well and which I actually need.
Jackets. I live in a very cold place and I have many jackets, but in the winter I only use about 1-2 of the ones I have. I'm trying to downsize my wardrobe still and I'm happy to say I've been making some progress.
Mmmm that’s such a good one! I love applying the 80/20 rule to my closet! What are the 20% of my clothing items that I wear 80% of the time? That can really help determine what we get value from!
You can really tell that people are very different. I love my sheer clothes and high heels. And I really enjoy my activity tracker. Things I regret buying: 1. My first couch, I bought it in a fabric that was not practical for the model couch I had picked, the quality was mediocre at best, it was not comfortable, the wrong size and it was pretty expensive. I was just starting to make bigger purchases for my own home and I did not think it through properly. 2. I bought way too many towels for my bathroom, I can only use one at a time but I thought I needed a big set of like 10. So unnecessary. 3. I also bought way too much kitchen gear like plates, forks, knives etc. I don't have that many dinner parties w. 10 people, so what do I need 10 plates for? 4. Dress shirts I have to actually iron. I hate ironing. So now I just buy clothing with a tight fit or made out of wrinkle free material. No more ironing for me. 5. Fast fashion is a big one. Although some of the fast fashion I bought back in the day really has the right shape for my body, so it genuinely makes me happy. And if it breaks down I repair it. But never again will I sponsor unethical, badly made stuff. 6. And buying everything new is a big one. Looking back, if I would have thrifted more sooner, I would have saved a lot of money.
I also got rid of all my heels! Platforms are way more my style and I can confidently and comfortably walk in them. Yay for rejecting what we are "supposed" to do, and embracing what feels right to us as individuals!
I agree with everything except blue light glasses 😭 They help me so much. Eyes hurt without them. It's more comfortable wearing them while using the screen for long periods of hours. If I wore blue light glasses long time ago.. I wouldn't have such many eye issues. Blue light glasses is a necessity.
# 8 Sale items hits hard. At Targét today, saw a shirt that said “I Drink and I Know Things” with a Game of Thrones logo. It was $3.59 on clearance. I never in my life watched a GoT episode but I justified the purchase because it was in black & indeed I do, drink & know things...
Great video! I've been pondering getting blue light glasses for a while now, because I tend to get dry eyes quickly (which gets painful). I've found conflicting evidence on whether or not they help with that. So I guess I would have to try them out to see if they work for me. However I also totally agree with the tip about looking at something else regularly when working on your laptop. I combine that with moving around my space, to give my eyes a break as well as get my body moving
Thanks so much Vera! I’m not sure how blue light glasses might affect having dry eyes, but it might be worth a try! The big things I got them hoping they’d help were eyestrain and headaches, but for me at least the tip of looking away worked a lot better! 🤍
There are plenty of free apps for both your phone and computer that block blue light. Many devices even have them installed already, I know that Windows computers have that option - just search "night light" in the settings. You can adjust the strength of it and even set it on a timer. No reason to spend money and buy plastic glasses. Also you can put eye drops every once in a while
So that reference is more in regards to dry eyes and computer use. Which, also can be an issue. Studies have shown that we blink less when on a computer. For this reason you are supposed to look away for about 20 seconds to help re-lubricate your eyes. Blue light protection is rather new and there is not enough studies to show what if any long term harm we are getting from too much blue light exposure. The main reason for day to day blue light protection is for people with sleep issues. Because as you said blue light, comes from the sun as well and when we watch digital devices we are also getting blue light exposure and this can interrupt our circadian Rhythm and our sleep pattern.
I can tell you that I'm a lawyer so I stare at a screen and sit in fluorescent lights all day. I got my new prescription glasses with blue tint and they've made a huge difference for me.
@@priscillajimenez27 That's right! I could say the exact meaning in English is "golden" referring to the female gender. I live in Thessaloniki, the second largest city of the country and it's located in the north.
I'd love to see a minimalist workout routine, I'm not sure if you have one already but I feel like even in fitness there is so much and it gets overwhelming. I'd love to see your take on it!💓😌
That's why I purchased faux plants. Always gives me joy without the commitment of caring for them. Decluttered all my flats and my plus sized clothing that were ill fitting/too loose this morning. Such a great feeling!
For finicky clothing, I found that when you shop at thrift stores things have already shrunk in the wash (probably the reason they are at the store) and it makes it much easier to deal with fabrics like silk or rayon or quality cottons. I have not worn lace, but bulky stitch sweaters are similar and get caught on the strangest things and pull or tear the clothing. A very helpful video to know that we are not the only ones making mistakes. I don't regret having an orchid...it was absolutely beautiful, but I didn't know how to care for it and since I didn't repot it, it had root rot that turned into crown rot. I did learn ALOT about caring for orchids, but I *might* think twice about another purchase considering the intense care they require.
Can I just say, you have became my favorite UA-camr! School started again for college so I rarely go on UA-cam as much, but when I have time I only watch your videos. I feel a really calm and relaxing vibe when I watch your videos. I also find myself gravitating towards a more simple and intentional lifestyle and I love that you express minimalism without putting pressure on people who are transitioning into that lifestyle. I become more motivated to put more thought into the things I buy and how to maintain my living space. Thanks I love your videos! 😊💖
I also regret buying storage containers. I end up finding more things to buy and store when I’ve found that the less storage containers I own the less things I feel the need to buy!
I really started hating my fit bit. Not because of the tracking, but for the horrible hardware to App connection which is just a hassle every time i tried to connect them. After swimming in a pool once it broke and i was kinda glad honestly.
Yes I feel this too! I just don’t bother with the app much anymore and just use it to see how many steps I take. It’s still an essential for me and I talk about it on my channel often too
When things are generally on sale, the typical reaction is "I've got to have it". Which is more invaluable than one may believe. It is based on convenience and not valued individuality.
Yay fellow minimalist! We live on our sailboat, sailing the world so we definitely consider ourselves minimalists and love to see other minimalistic youtubers! Cheers!
Yes I relate to a few of these! I also did this video recently 😌 It’s fun to look back on things we thought we needed then but now don’t after living more intentional
Loved this video. There’s so many things that you talk about that we already know but just choose to ignore. One of biggest reasons we buy more than we need is wanting to follow and keep up with trends and also think this will make us more likeable ... love hearing you speak ❤️
Curious how you prepare for an emergency if you don’t have too much food on hand. This is something I’ve been thinking over. I don’t want too much stuff but I also want to feel prepared. I regret buying cheap versions of things that I want. In the end I wind up getting the better quality item after I purchased the cheap alternative. Such a waste of money!
Idk if this will help, but coming from an Asian household, also having places like Cosco or Walmart. My family would buy foods that last longer and don’t need that many ingredients or time to cook. Such as, a large pack of rice, we had a large pack almost the size of a bed pillow that can last for months ! Cream of wheat and oatmeal last a very long time. You can also buy very large packs of them. Filter on your water , therefore, you can drink your water without any issues . Just my take
These videos are so helpful! Thank you for helping❤️I’ve always wondered: where did you buy your watering can from? I love the small golden look and it’s a good size for just small house plants. My biggest regret is indulging in spur-of-the-moment hobby supplies buying. I’m a very hobby loving person so I have supplies for acrylic painting, water coloring, embroidering, sewing and quilting, knitting and crocheting, and all kinds of crafty things. I usually complete one or two projects from each area and never touch the materials and supplies again😒 so maybe picking one and sticking to it or not buying so quickly would help keep the clutter down in the long run
My biggest regret is purchasing from e-commerce shops- particularly clothes- that I can’t return purchases to. I’ve learned the hard way that shopping international, most Etsy shops, and Poshmark don’t accept returns so, even though I could potentially save money shopping second hand, it could cost me money in the long run bc I can’t return it if I don’t like it. I do love vintage so I do sometimes take those risks but some of those purchases are my biggest regrets.
Hi ashlynne - what a great idea for a video. It got me thinking about my mistakes of purchases such as high maintenance plants, and cheap made clothes coz of their look. I buy native plants and annuals. Mistakes is all a part of a personal journey. 💓
I can totally relate with you about the high heel thing. The good thing is that I've found a middle ground in booties with a 1 1/2 inch heel. I love them and if styled right, you can wear them all year long. Never compromise who you truly are. If high heels aren't for you, don't wear them! I don't.
I’ve been thinking of purchasing a blue light glasses too since I work 8hrs a day in front of a computer but now after watching I’m having second thoughts.
Oh my God, I was waiting for someone to work that out "blue light glasses" . Everyone here on You Tube are using them and then I thought I need 'em but when I asked my eye specialist, if I needed one, he said No, even when I had an eye surgery last year, so I must take more care. Thank you dear Ashley, love you. Hope you a good day.
I love how everything is so simple and calm, Your videos are amazing! Can you make a video on what you eat in a day?? One thing I wish I didn't buy is my whiteboard, which is so hard to clean!
I regret buying merchandise for different shows, teams... They ended up in my wardrobe and on shelves not being touched or looked at until I decluttered them. I now have just one hoodie of my favourite band which I get great use out of 🙂
When you told about watering plants, it made me back to old memories where I was watering all plants in my front yard every evening, and thank you for tell me you regret buy high heels, I feel lucky because I only have one and maybe will not buy again. It's a guilty for me because I just bought 2 glasses where I don't know now, did I really need it or not, maybe I just need to check my eyes and have consultation with doctor and get the right glasses.
I did buy extra food because of Covid-19 and people were hording it. I bought some processed foods I normally don't usually buy and sort of regret and have to eat before it expires. I rarely have regrets when I make purchases.
The thing I regret buying is my bedroom set. I didn’t realize how much space it would take in my bedroom. As a minimalist I am now realizing that and it’s only a year old and so I am contemplating if I should give it away or sell it. 😕
All good regrets and reasoning. I'm differently for no fuss comfortable clothing and shoes. I don't have a problem with over purchasing food. I make sure I use it before its not any good. To expensive to waste. I sure agree with leaving souvenirs in there shops. What's worse is people thinking they need to give me a souvenir of their trip. Ugh!
Good list. I definitely feel the same about a lot of these...except my fitness tracker. I absolutely love mine and have been wearing one religiously for the past 3 years. Most people I know though are not a fan of them.
Oh my goodness!! I could relate so much to finicky clothes! I wasted so much in the past on clothes that I had to constantly adjust or wear "special" undergarments for. Also, higj maintenance plants 🤦🏻♀️ No more of that for me. P.S. What is that plant that you have a vase with water called? On your bedside table. 😊
Can you make a video on the plants you regret buying? I would love to know which plants to avoid in the future when I decide to get into plants as I don’t want anything high maintenance!
Thanks for sharing this valuable information. I purchase blue light glasses return them back to Amazon on the same day. I love plants too unfortunately taking care of him with two little ones is a such a burden at the moment hopefully when they’re older I can look into taking care of plants. I’ve never been comfortable with heels.
I wish i didn't buy games my friends suggested but i didn't take time to think over that those type of games werent the type i liked. I'm glad to watch your beautiful videos Ashlynne. And you
camera lens you truly right i buy a camera and i see buy lens but only one to make the job is ok hi! ashlynn thanx for youre videos i enjoyed so much☺🌿
Just one? ;-) I think one of my biggest purchase regrets is my reading chair that is in the living room. First of all, I never sit in it. Second, it's a blue/teal color. While I love that color, I now have to plan my decor accordingly. I wish I had either bought a neutral color or no chair at all!
Bookbags. Having them makes me feel uncomfortable. I much prefer a simple handheld briefcase so that I can carry around much less with a more organized setup. Great to see your videos.
I wish I haven't purchase books, college books. We used like one chapter for the whole semester and never seem to use it again, and they keep stacking up over time. Next year or so, a new edition appear and it'll too late to sell then. If I managed to sell them, it'll be half a price or less. I also have 5 back bags that I hardly ever use, extra school supplies and furniture, and cups, too many cups.
For the future, you can try renting textbooks from local bookstores, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble. It is usually a bit cheaper and I no longer have the added weight of finding what to do with all those books. It can get a little tricky for books that need online codes from the textbook, but I find that is the exception and not rule
Employers make a fitbit or tracker a must have. I have to "earn" dollars for my HSA. I do understand people get overwhelmed or obsessed with the steps!
Tip: If you love souvenirs but you don't want a ton of clutter, try pressed pennies! I love my pressed penny collection and I use blue tack to display them on the outside of my bathroom door.
I always wondered how accurate those fitness trackers were......I've tested a couple just to find that they could change just by moving or bumping your arm.
I don't know. My prescription glasses have blue light tint. I get sick from the fluorescent lights in courthouses and offices. My screen hurts too. The prescription blue light lenses act like sunglasses for me and I can tell a huge difference when I have them on.
1) I am a plant lover and I completely understand this! All the plants 🌱 I own are low maintenance, yet so beautiful and they thrive with the love and attention I give them! We love each other! 😂 #crazyplantlady 2) HIGH HEELS 👠 are my enemy! Lmao 😂 and now a days I am completely in the mind set of being comfortable! And that doesn’t mean you have to wear heels to be sexy! You can be sexy in your own comfortable minimalistic outfits and glow ✨
My closet is filled with dresses and shoes like high heels! But i do use them a lot like at least 2-3 times a week so im not getting rid of those lol more for my tshirts
Mmmm, blue light blockers can be so helpful for though is for those who are sensitive (migraine sufferers, for example) who have to work office jobs. It’d be so nice to take more brakes, but we do what we can! I have also fallen into the pitfall of fussy plants- They’re so pretty. But....not in my house.
So the American Ophthalmology reference is more in regards to dry eyes and computer use. Which, also can be an issue. Studies have shown that we blink less when on a computer. Just another reason why we aren’t supposed to look at digital devises before bed. LOL, not that I listen to my own advice either.
My biggest buying regrets: #1) makeup subscriptions(I RARELY wear makeup) so now I've been giving away a lot of it to friends and family who actually wear makeup #2.) travel souvenirs like t-shirts, sweats, hoodies etc which I've recently decluttered all of and donated to goodwill. #3.) Storage solutions. Instead of admitting to the need of decluttering items i end up buying storage solutions. This year ive been able to declutter all of my storage solution items.
is it safe to bring an external hard drive without a case? cuz mine only comes with a box, without a case, and i found out that it would be so much easier to carry it without a box, but it is safe? i'm facing several options : 1. throw the box and just carry the hard drive (not safe maybe?) 2. purchase a case ( hard or soft ? on a budget but wanting a nice and high quality one) 3. keep the box (more space consumed, not simple when going out) Please help me guysssss thxxxx
I did a succulent subscription and stopped it after the first box so I wouldn’t be overwhelmed. Good thing I did. The first two died within a month and a half. Went back to my trusty old snake plant.
Would you be willing to give recommendations for low-maintenance house plants that are cat-friendly? I currently have a money tree and an aloe plant (kept outside), but I want more!

There are quite a few things that i wished that i hadn't purchsed in the past, but now i am far more cautious!! Lesson learnt the hardway it seems!
Thanks for pointing out the blue light blocking glasses. I was planning to get one pair for my boy.
I love how everything is so simple and calm, Your videos are amazing! Can you make a video on what you eat in a day?? One thing I wish I didn't buy is my whiteboard, which is so hard to clean!
I admit I fell off the minimalist wagon in the past 6 mths....but I cleared my mistakes and I am back to my minimalist and focused life 💜
You are so sensible. I too have given up heels and fitness trackers. I salute you!
Wow this is so relaxing. I wanted to create my place just like yours. Wishing u all the best.
I agree with you on the "low maintenance clothes only" rule. If something is dry cleaning only or is super wrinkly no matter what I do, it's a no 🙅♀️
Such wisdom! Especially about ditching high heels. Simple formula: high heels = sore feet = sour face lower heels = comfortable feet = beautiful face
The thing I regret buying is my bedroom set. I didn’t realize how much space it would take in my bedroom. As a minimalist I am now realizing that and it’s only a year old and so I am contemplating if I should give it away or sell it. 😕
Loved this video. We dont think deeply about our purchases. So many of your points i was like yep iv done that.
5'1! I feel your pain! I only have one pair of heels that I don't hate. The rest were sold in my last declutter.
👏 LOVE 👏 THIS 👏 So cool seeing how you had this realization too!
Ugh!
I need my blue light canceling filter on my glasses, since 2 years ago my vision and my life has changed ^^
I was going to buy fitness tracker and blue light glasses 😅 aaaand now i need to rethink this
Hi love 💕 your channel 💚 I too am a shortie & can’t wear high heels & fussy clothes - comfort means everything
Completely with you on this!! 🥰
I really do enjoy watching your videos!:) Thanks for making them 🥰 love from Germany 🤗
Thanks so much for watching Svenja! 🤍
Haha yes!! 🙌 So with you on these! And the plant on the vase is actually a cutting of my monstera deliciousa!
You make my life easy and meaningful. Thankyou dear.
I'm by no means a minimalist (yet), but your videos definitely motivate me to improve step by step😘
I also create similar videos, I hope you can check mine out 😌
Your voice is so calming 🙌🏻 Great video 😊🌿💕
Thank you!! 🤍
Where’s your mug from? I’ve seen it in a few videos and I love it!
And you
Now i have too much games i dont have time or will to play and i lost lot of money
Oooh that’s a really good one!!
I didn’t know blue light glasses didn’t work, thanks for the tip! I’m going to stop wearing mine😆 not comfortable
oh my god I missed a lot of your videos :( I was with classes all week but now I can see your videos
camera lens you truly right i buy a camera and i see buy lens but only one to make the job is ok hi! ashlynn thanx for youre videos i enjoyed so much☺🌿
Hey Ashlynn!🦋 I LOVE your channel. It inspires me ALOT.🔮 I wonder if you could add some subtitles to the videos?🥰
Love your watering can! I love my plants too ❤️🌱
Omg I agree on high heels point as even I collected heels because I'm short and ended up not using it ever !
Just one? ;-) I think one of my biggest purchase regrets is my reading chair that is in the living room. First of all, I never sit in it. Second, it's a blue/teal color. While I love that color, I now have to plan my decor accordingly. I wish I had either bought a neutral color or no chair at all!
Buyer’s Guilt, we all have it, we all hate it, and sadly we keep doing it.
An excellent cure for buying things: watch HOARDERS.
How do you take care of/wash your alpaca sweater?
Bookbags. Having them makes me feel uncomfortable. I much prefer a simple handheld briefcase so that I can carry around much less with a more organized setup. Great to see your videos.
Love that one Terrance! Thanks for sharing! ☺️
It can get a little tricky for books that need online codes from the textbook, but I find that is the exception and not rule
wow!! super early here!! Love you Ashlyne! God Bless you!
Thank you so much Sherin! 🤍
Great job, Ashlynne!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much Ervin!
You're Welcome, Ashlynne!
Hey @Ashlynne Eaton, I really like your sweater but it seems high maintenance, on the Everlane website it says dry cleaning 😂 how do you wash it?
Employers make a fitbit or tracker a must have. I have to "earn" dollars for my HSA. I do understand people get overwhelmed or obsessed with the steps!
Tip: If you love souvenirs but you don't want a ton of clutter, try pressed pennies! I love my pressed penny collection and I use blue tack to display them on the outside of my bathroom door.
thats brilliant
I always wondered how accurate those fitness trackers were......I've tested a couple just to find that they could change just by moving or bumping your arm.
I don't know. My prescription glasses have blue light tint. I get sick from the fluorescent lights in courthouses and offices. My screen hurts too. The prescription blue light lenses act like sunglasses for me and I can tell a huge difference when I have them on.
1) I am a plant lover and I completely understand this! All the plants 🌱 I own are low maintenance, yet so beautiful and they thrive with the love and attention I give them! We love each other! 😂 #crazyplantlady
2) HIGH HEELS 👠 are my enemy! Lmao 😂 and now a days I am completely in the mind set of being comfortable! And that doesn’t mean you have to wear heels to be sexy! You can be sexy in your own comfortable minimalistic outfits and glow ✨
Legit loving the new minimalist creators being recommended to me lol
Loved this video...Subscribed! 😊❤️
Relate to the heels regret so much :'( I am 5'4" and fell into that fashion trap (sigh). I am much too active and heels hurt!
Ashlynne I would like to know where do you get the Map Frame?
So the American Ophthalmology reference is more in regards to dry eyes and computer use. Which, also can be an issue. Studies have shown that we blink less when on a computer. Just another reason why we aren’t supposed to look at digital devises before bed. LOL, not that I listen to my own advice either.
You have such nice skin, could you do a minimalists body care video??
where did you get your watering can? i’ve been on the lookout for a good one ;)
i need a smaller one for boat life haha
I don't know where Ashlynne bought her's from but, H&M has similar watering can. I have it, it's beautiful
I actually get a headache whenever I don’t use my blue-light blocking glasses 🤷🏽♀️ maybe psychosomatic?
Can you do a plant tour? 🌱❤️🥺
Yes!! 🥰 I’m actually planning to!
Yay! ❤️ can’t wait!
My biggest buying regrets:
#1) makeup subscriptions(I RARELY wear makeup) so now I've been giving away a lot of it to friends and family who actually wear makeup
#2.) travel souvenirs like t-shirts, sweats, hoodies etc which I've recently decluttered all of and donated to goodwill.
#3.) Storage solutions. Instead of admitting to the need of decluttering items i end up buying storage solutions. This year ive been able to declutter all of my storage solution items.
is it safe to bring an external hard drive without a case? cuz mine only comes with a box, without a case, and i found out that it would be so much easier to carry it without a box, but it is safe?
i'm facing several options :
1. throw the box and just carry the hard drive (not safe maybe?)
2. purchase a case ( hard or soft ? on a budget but wanting a nice and high quality one)
3. keep the box (more space consumed, not simple when going out)
Please help me guysssss thxxxx
How you keep that monstera so healthy in water ? Tips please 🤗
Awww you took a trip to New York. I live in NY. 😊
I did a succulent subscription and stopped it after the first box so I wouldn’t be overwhelmed. Good thing I did. The first two died within a month and a half. Went back to my trusty old snake plant.
You're such a cozy friend ❤️
Where do you shop for "slow fashion" in Canada?
Another amazing video keep growing 💛
Yaaay early😍
As usual..like before i even watch
Oh my gosh you’re so sweet!! Thank you 🥰
Would you be willing to give recommendations for low-maintenance house plants that are cat-friendly? I currently have a money tree and an aloe plant (kept outside), but I want more!
