I love the fun sound “experimentation” that you find on gospel albums around the years of 1968 to about 1972. So many new ideas on what to try out…drums, cymbals, strings, steel guitars, etc., and why not? There were so many changes going on in the world at the time. And yet several Blue Ridge “classics” are from this era…”I Know”, “After Calvary”, and on this album…”That Day Is Almost Here.”
Just another primary example of marvin Norcross s genius. Fred Daniels steals this album before the great Donnie seabolt took over first tenor. Next my number one bass singer of all time burl strevel. A young 27 year old Laverne tripp. Bill crowe shines as usual. Kenny gates you are the man at the piano. Great job kenny. Also give credit where credit is due. Butch peters on steel guitar. Blane bucy on drums. Jerry Browning on electric guitar. One word a canaan masterpiece. 9698 1971. Fun fact a man who is wise is bill crowes favorite. Great choice bill. Thank you marvin Norcross for this wonderful label canaan.
