What makes US Precision Guided Missiles “FLOP” In Ukraine?

  • In the midst of ongoing conflict, Ukrainian forces are leveraging US-supplied glide bombs to their advantage. This video delves into the use of two distinct glide bombs: the GLSDB (Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb) and the JDAM-ER (Joint Direct Attack Munition-Extended Range). However, these American-made guided weapons are facing challenges due to Russia's electronic interference, impacting their precision and effectiveness.
Despite the initial success of the HIMARS system in Ukraine's counteroffensive in September 2022, recent reports suggest that Russian electronic jammers have disrupted the system's GPS-guided targeting, leading to missed targets. The stakes are high as Ukraine heavily relies on HIMARS to target Russian logistical and military infrastructure.
The video also explores the impact of jamming interference on the operational effectiveness of the JDAM-ER. Despite anti-jamming enhancements, Russia's advanced electronic warfare systems are influencing the flight path of these intelligent weapons.
This video provides an in-depth analysis of the ongoing electronic warfare and the countermeasures being developed. It highlights the need for continuous innovation and adaptation in the face of evolving warfare tactics. Watch now to understand the intricate dynamics of modern warfare.

Yup. However Russia was first to adapt and in other areas like cheap drones as welll with massive production scaling up, while NATO is coming to realise they prepared for the wrong future war and only has expensive obsolete equipment and due to being democracies everyone will debate for a decade or two before they decide to build cheap mass produced swarms etc which frankly doesnt put money in shareholders accounts. 20 000$ drones or 50 million dollar drones which one makes shareholders happy. Ukraine is screwed.

It's possible that the US has ways to burn through the Russian countermeasures, but aren't using them in Ukraine to not show all of our capabilities. If that's not the case, it's still good for the US to find out about the issues now rather than if we find ourselves in a conflict of our own.

A good observation! It's key to Russia's past victories & also why it takes them 2-3yrs to get their sh*t together. "Out-there" tech ideas that would seem like too wasteful or risky at peace time, get green-lit & fast-tracked; officers who are nobody's nephews get promoted (often skipping ranks) on merit. So it's not that there was anything wrong with Napoleon's or Hitler's plans for Russia - it's just 2-3yrs in, they'd found themselves up against an utterly different country vs the one they'd studied and invaded.

HARM missiles were used by Ukraine, and they have been intercepted. Ukraine has a hodgepodge of stuff from all over the world, and not enough from anything, that's why they're losing. All the Western wunderwaffen were designed 1. to make money for US arms manufacturers, and 2. to fight third rate countries, and there aren't enough around to fight a superpower who has been preparing for this kind of war for decades.

As a 5 star armchair general that knows next to nothing...my best guess is that long range anti-radiation munitions cost more than the jammers. Whenever you see the multi piece Russian EWAR units the actual emitter is just a brute force antenna sitting on a practically civilian truck.
Worse these units are usually babysat by counter artillery microphones and track radars that will trace the source of the attack and pound it with conventional artillery.
If all that wasn't enough, the emitters can just....turn off. Leaving the cheaper/older HARM's proverbially in the dark. (apparently the new stuff has back up acquisition systems but its clearly not all that effective)

This isn't to say Russian aren't being slaughtered wholesale in Ukraine by US/Western-supplied weapons and munitions as they certainly are, but no weapon made by man is infallible.
It's all in vain anyway, when AI raises up, we'll all look back to these days with a nostalgic gleam back when wars could actually be won, not one-sided affairs when AI battles man (and wins every single time). How about 3rd tier opponent. Against a 2nd tier opponent, f.e. Iran, the US would struggle badly....and would be forced to accept huge numbers of casualties...but it would still be able to win. Against a near peer foe like Russia?
Pff....no chance. Their initial wave of air and missile attacks would be the only they could launch as Russia would effectively rain fire on all airfields and ships that are close enough to Russia to be used against her.
And, as we have seen many times during the last 1.5 years....russian (even late soviet) air defense systems kick ass, so that combined air and missile attack would be FAR less effective than it was against 3rd rate iraqi or libyan air defenses.

@@captainwin6333 quote" All Russia does is run miles and miles of cableing to antennas and anything that can locate radio waves cannot differentiate between an actual Russian military jammer" ... LOL shows your massive ignorance. Russian have powerful jammers that can directly interfere and interrupt NATO satellites in space its communications. It is thanks to idiots like you in NATO military , underestimating always Russia ,that the Russian military have been able to adapt and even surpass NATO in their own technology. We have been told almost every month of a "new game changing weapon" and it never materialize. Russia finds a way to counter it. The lastest NATO embarrassment was not how easily Russia destroy NATO armored colums , forcing most ukraine military to go on foot .. to prevent their armor from being destroyed. But the disasters that NATO suffered when recently Russia jammed one of your Storm shadow "game changing" super stealthy missile by capturing it almost intact . What people call "Russia jamming" , is a lot more than just confusing Enemy communications as you claim. Russia Electronic warfare ,that is a much more closer to what really happens , can completely fry NATO electronics , Disable missiles , Drones and even Disable Satellites in Space from NATO by physically burning its electronics , and not limited to electronics but also Optics. Russian super long range lasers from moscow can hit your satellites too 30k in space and damage its Optics and they have laser mobile trucks to break the optics of NATO drones and missiles too . Like those KA-52 upgraded hellicopters can do , that during the first day of invasion in Ukraine , was fired 19 stinger missiles in waves , and almost all of them ,minus one was countered by Russian laser system. So think about that for a second.. Collective NATO gave Ukraine up to 25,000 manpads ,to shutdown planes , drones and hellicopters , Stinger missiles in the thousands ,and british ones too and from other manpads too ,and Russia have not lost 25,000 aircraft in Ukraine . If that was the case they will be without an airforce already , since the Russian airforce doesn't have more than 2000 aircraft.
As a matter of fact Russia have not lost a single Lancer Kamikazi drone to manpads or any airdefense. Ukraine not even report a success against them and only complain about them ,destroying their NATO tanks and light armor again and again with impunity. The only problem Russia military face in the war is not in equipment capabilities , but in equipment quantity. That they have not enough of drones to cope with the needs of the army that the conflict demands. And that neither have enough satellites in space to spy on Ukraine positions 24 hours a day.
Russia depends on just 4-6 satellites in space to have a very close view from space to the ground. NATO and allies being a collective of 30++ nations ,they all helping Ukraine in the other hand with Hundreds of satellites they have. SO even when Russia is just 1 nation and fighting a coalition of 30 NATO countries , they are doing an amazing job , holding back Ukraine ,even with s uch massive help from NATO.

This has been the result of decades of a carefully-crafted framework to maintain the "US exceptionalism" myth. It has held up to date only because the US has always pitted itself against weaker, less well-equipped nations down to the level of local farmers dressed in bedsheets with only AKs, RPGs and IEDs for weapons, no AA and no airspace dominance.
Suddenly, the US has discovered that while it has been stressing over which toilets men can use, should they or shouldn't they have a transgender Admiral, and "equity" statistics in the services, Russia has been planning for a day some unspecified time in the future when the US and the Ne0-N@zis would have another go at them.
The US has long promoted the conflation of the USSR with the Russian Federation, and that both are symbolic of primitivism and backwardness, and of course this is mostly for the benefit of the largely ignorant US citizens who have no idea where half these countries are.
On the contrary, Russia is credited with many people who are deeply philosophical, deep thinkers and excellent at design, medical and technical subjects and many other issues.
Don't forget that Russia put the first satellite, first man (Yuri Gagarin in 1961), and first woman (Valentina Tereshkova in 1963 ) into space. The US finally got their first woman into space 20 years later (Sally Ride in 1983). They also put the first landers onto Venus.
And let's not forget their composers, dancers and writers.
The Russians also maintain a solid position in the world Chess rankings. Their aircraft design has been excellent to novel and they have never feared exploring radical designs, including the Ekranoplan, even under the constraints of Sovietism and now moreso under the relative freedoms of the Federation.
They have one other attribute. They are bloody tough, stoic and strongly nationalistic. I've worked with them at high altitudes and latitudes and never saw a people less fazed by ultra-low temperatures down as low as -70C.
The US will find out just how this dedication to their survival works out if they continue to mess with them.

I guess those mothers can rest assured knowing their sons were never considered of a "serious enemy" as they indeed perished, right? 🤔
HIMARS is a devastating weapons system, which is why Moscow made a mighty stink when they were delivered to Ukraine months ago (and why they're incredibly pissed about the addition of the ATACMS being sent with its 6-fold range and much larger warhead of those being used currently). They said it would "cross a red line". Why complain if they are such garbage?
Many have learned the hard way that it's incredibly foolish to underestimate your enemy, his weapons and capabilities. Give your enemy more credit than they deserve and be pleasantly surprised after victory. After all, this is what the Yanks have done for decades and have recently been pleasantly amused at the true state of Russia's military readiness.

I'm curious about the accuracy of this report or the effectiveness of the Russian jamming. Most of these weapons are supposed to function in GPS denied environments. That is, once the location of the target is known, the inertial guidance system which does not rely on external signals would still allow the bomb to hit its target with better accuracy than an unguided bomb. Maybe it won't be as accurate with GPS updates, but it should still be pretty accurate. Very curious indeed. 🤔

GPS is used for target acquisitions as well. Russians are masters of EW. I am sure they still keep loots of aces up their collective sleeve. They also working on updating their equipment and firmware to keep up with every development. Never mind that they have a lot of spies planted in and around Ukraine. This is why they never targeted Zelensky, because they know everything that is going on Around him. New face would cause them to look and recruit new assets. Another thing, if you develop these things, you definitely know the methods how it works. So even videos of "precision ammunition" can give an expert a lot of information. I used to know one ex Soviet Jew physicist, who after seeing footage from first shots in Iraq, the Shock and Awe, he called Pentagon and told them what they are doing wrong.

Yes they can.. And these very same drones can be configured to home in on them.. But it's Boeing.. I have no faith in the company after the Air Max coverup scandal..Never mind the FAA allowing Boeing to "Certify" their own planes..

They can be defended with air defense systems. At the same time source of the attack can be tracked and engaged by Tornado system. Ukraine has little to stop this.

Attack Russian jamming equipment located in Russia which will start a wider regional conflict? Then what comes next? NATO and America gets involved directly and drags China into the war by opening a Pacific front which will also force Russia to fight in two or more fronts? And then their respective allies are also sucked into this war and WW3 starts? You people advocating the defeat of Russia and other heavily armed nations will soon be lucky enough to see a mushroom cloud rise over your city.

Almost all Russian jammers have ghost radar signal antennas, that's why you don't hear about antiradiation misile effectiveness in this conflict.

Well not exaclty easy since gps usually uses lower frequencies than radar frequency its radio for gps so anyways to jamm gps you use lower frequency jammers which are harder to detect and target with conventional harm platforms and frequency hopping proper use of clutter makes it even harder

Doubtful bud, realize US can’t and won’t send it’s best and newest technology!! Most of our newest missles being developed have different guidance systems and not just that but we have the E/F-18 Growler for reasons just like this!! Not only that but we have EW pods we can put on F-16s, F-15s, and anything else we want to, those prolly aren’t as capable as the Growler but still would counter this issue but we won’t send those EW pods even if we do send the F-16 because we don’t want it falling into enemy hands and being reverse engineered!! Realize anything we send over to Ukraine is AT LEAST 20 year old technology some of it even older!!
