Michael Kovac and his wife Karina Maher's home has fire resilient features, which may have contributed to the house surviving the Palisades Fire. abc7chicago.co...
Good design doesn't have to be ugly. I'm a CA licensed Architect with 45 year of practice doing high end homes among many more smaller ones. Cementous siding or stucco and metal or tile roofs is a good start, and all new houses have far superior windows these days than in olden times. Generally the replacement houses will be far better construction, but they don't have to be this ugly. The main problem will be the permitting process. It's like pulling teeth these days.
Build the right home while the state corrects their upside down land management. Building codes need to be addressed.
Not even their bushes burned. Interesting…
@@alonzokincaid1362 The fire was aesthetically repelled.
Agree - it's ugly.
I like the Afghanistan war veteran who bought cheap sprinklers and put them all over his roof and around the house. Turned them on and fled. House was saved as was the house below from all the water run off. GENIUS.
Yes. But Pacific Palisades had so many homes that were built decades ago. But I guess going forward, if homes get rebuilt, they will need this type of fire resistant engineering.
Their house is awesome.
Thanks for sharing!
We all need this for all our homes. And burglar proof the houses too.
Ugly house but still looks better than a pile of charred rubble.
All you really need is a Blue Roof
Interesting how the plants and trees outside their house are also fire and heat resistant
You're not supposed to notice that. It would interfere with paradigm of environmentalism is the savior of everything.
Now do construction for us poors...this is a 10-15 million dollar home FFS
This fireproofing can be done at any level, It's not much extra for fire-resistant roofs of metal, cement siding which looks like any present day style, closing off holes that let in sparks to attics. No combustibles around the house. Most can be done for 5-10% more than normal. 200k home for 220k. It is the land that costs a lot, it doesn't burn
This is how LA needs to rebuild
It all boils down to proper prior planning prevents poor performance. All of these homes that survived were due to prior planning done as much as 2 decades ago.
That's crazy, I wish I had something witty to say, but that's wild
Working and remodeling old victorians and mid-century homes in San Franciso, there are cost effective ways. Yes, that's an expensive house but the average person can afford to protect their homes.
Start with hardy cement style siding. It's non combustible. Rockwool insulation which can withstand over 1000 degrees.
Bingo
I guess they now have a new consulting business in home construction!
came to say same
sparks and fire dust looks insane....
The sparks and fire dust are INSANE!
It’s all INSANE! INSANE INSANE INSANE!
It's hard to tell, but it doesn't look like the fire reached them. None of the vegetation is even singed. It would be more impressive if they showed how close the fires were on all sides.
@1:46 it seems to show some singed grass at the back of the home.
I guess fire won’t burn UGLY! My Lord, it’s horrific…. Make fire resistance beautiful again!
Yeah it’s ugly. But also still standing. With all their material goods inside still there. Must be a total drag though to look around your neighborhood. Talk about ugly!
looks like a tomb
Wow
I guess if you don't mind living in a library
At least they have that "library" to live in - unlike their neighbors.
Good to have a home, even an ugly one.
Interesting
Are you a few days late telling everyone about this house???
More important, there’s no tress that caught fire surrounding their house, that’s even more important
Profitably late!
Hello there, I was wondering, if I can share with you the most important thing ever in life. God the Father sent His holy Son Jesus to earth, to be born of a virgin. He grew up and died on the cross-- for our sins. Then He was put into a tomb for 3 days, after that Abba Father raised Jesus to life.He appeared to people, and went back to heaven. We all must sincerely receive Jesus into our life, to be God's child. John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." Will you today, genuinely, by faith receive Jesus into your life for salvation?
Does He fireproof homes too?
@@safffff1000Most importantly, are you fire proof? (Hell)? ❤
@@evlynealeshire5850 Do you do the right thing out of fear of punishment?
The less you expect from your leaders the less you will get.
I wonder if his architectural firm will be involved in the building of the 15 minute prisons 😅I mean cities that Gavin keeps gabbin about. “Problem reaction solution anyone???”
His home is going to need to be mudslide proof in the next few weeks into FEB when the torrential rains begin.
Send money to those California rich people! Paris Hilton house gone help her rebuild fools
That is one ugly house.
All it takes is money
So they have fire resistant grass and plants around there house too? 🙄.. can they admitt they were just lucky! That fire didn’t get near that home or the plants and grass around it would have been up in flames too
the dude said the sprinkler system was hooked up to a fire retardant system (it was spraying down the place periodically), sidings/finishing of the house is cement, plant roof which was kept moist. So no, it wasn't luck.
Low sap or low resin plants are less likely to ignite as well as certain succulents species. The outside may scorch, but the flora typically do not burn
Think of plants like Senna alexandrina or D.alba. also adding flame retardant mulches can also save landscaping from conflagration.
do they have a smart meter? was the power turned on? Many of the homes that burst into flames had smart meters attached to the house. Way too many instances of a smart meter starting fires...way too many do the research.
@@jolie1327 Glad you noticed. Yes, "smart" meters are anything but. They are deadly as well as being part of the (essentially) prison system the 'PTB' are attempting to build.
Duh. It took people in Kallifornia to wake up and build the right house. So much for the environment who burned down thousands of homes and businesses killing humans. Correct your lack of forestry practices. Try that next time as well.
You knew they we're going to have to get that climate change angle in there didn't ya.
They don't have their head in the sand, unlike several YT commenters who are in denial.
In 1972 the city of St. Louis, MO demolished live on television the reinforced concrete high raises of Pruitt-Igoe housing projects. This created public fear and hatred towards residential reinforced concrete buildings in America and eventually creating the current vulnerability to wild fires. Pruitt-Igoe project failed once the project only allowed single mothers to live in it due to the feminist movement demonizing men. So feminism triggered the failure of reinforced concrete high raises in public housing. This failure was the main cause for the 1998 Faircloth act restricting public housing to the 1999 figure. This restriction caused the current housing crisis in America. This failure also triggered the public hatred towards reinforced concrete high raises which eventually triggered hatred towards the usage of reinforced concrete in houses. This simply made America vulnerable to wild fires. So a feminist in the 1960s hating men in public housing eventually triggered all the mess America faces today.
Many communities across America need to change their building codes. For asst possibilities. But Liberal n Conservative communities loath additional Regulations for asst reasons. 😅😅
What?? Liberals thrive on shoving their thoughts and ways on everyone!! In fact, the fire got out of control because of the leftist pushing everything else but human life and fire safety. They prefer protecting little fish over human life!!
FJB
And also Governor Hairgel!!
The wife said that people's reactions lag behind the science but it actually appears that people's style and choice of materials has been geared towards aesthetics instead of what was appropriate for the area. Metal roofs, concrete (which comes in a variety of choices from full concrete, cinderblocks, hardy board siding) come to mind immediately.
First up would be to have a better plan for water by getting eco terrorists out of office and electing people with brains.
All that vegetation that was dead should have been replaced with low water plants or ecoscaping.
“Electing people with brains” is almost IMPOSSIBLE in Cali. Lessee if this changes anything.
