Phil was the guy we nerdy heads could most relate to- just a humble, fun loving guy who always seemed to be so happy and fortunate to be doing what he was doing. I’m so sad he’s no longer among us. Go easy old friend I never got to meet!
My father is near death, as Phil's was in the inspiration for this song. This clip has given me and my siblings much comfort as we wait for Dad's crossing over. Thanks Phil and GD. Be an organ doner.
Mr. Pollard, your Father must have been a special man to have inspired such a great song. You sound like me describing my Father, even though he passed in 2,000. I still miss him so. Dad was my best friend. I was lucky to have been a part of his life and a gleam in his eye. Yours Steven Pettinga
My father died just under a month ago. I was posting something on FB in a group I'm in about my father etc right after he died with Spotify playing in the background. BoR came on while typing and I fucking lost it. And honestly, it's really the only time I have. The only way Jerry could fuck with me more is if it's raining here this Saturday when we hold his service
What a beautiful song. I just remember all the many Grateful Dead concerts I went to in my 20's. I thought back then we would live forever, but now in my 70's, I realize we won't. BUT, the music will live on, and I'll be forever grateful that I've lived through the 70's and began my musical concert journey with them a part of it. RIP, Phil Thanks forever.
Phil's otherwordly riffs have been gamboling and frolicking in my Walkman/iPod/air buds damn near daily for almost 50 years. I cannot imagine a personal musical landscape without his playing. Fare thee well, buddy
This is the first song I listened to after I found out my grandmother died. I can't believe it's almost been 9 years since she passed. I love and miss you very much.
Drove down from Binghamton to see this show, got caught in in a massive Catskill thunderstorm on the way down and traffic was stopped on the GW Bridge and got a parking space...almost missed the show...wow!
🙏 God Bless, Phil ❤️ You contributed to so many through music, live shows, & make up the foundation of my life soundtrack + music memories. Sending you boundless gratitude & love, Brother
Created a gmail account so I could comment on things like this... When I have my memorial service this will be the last song... A box of rain will ease the pain
tt's a Go**amned travesty that Phil Lesh's name is never mentioned when rock's great bass players are discussed. RIP Phil Lesh and thanks for the music
No matter where my seat was at the Garden, I would always work my way up to the blue section because the floor up there would rock up and down from of the force of thousands of Deadheads dancing, as if the building was constructed from rubber.
Eight-sided whispering hallelujah hatrack Seven-faced marble eye transitory dream doll Six proud walkers on jingle-bell rainbow Five men writing in fingers of gold Four men tracking the great white sperm whale Three girls wait in a foreign dominion Ride in the whalebelly Fade away in moonlight Sink beneath the waters To the coral sands below Now is the time of returning
Música linda que ele fez para o pai que estava para morrer, eu nunca fiz um música para meu pai que morreu e quero que meus filhos façam uma música para mim...
This album is full of chestnuts and by far my favorite Dead album. Mars Hotel is near as good. I wish they had taken more time crafting their albums, they could have had five more like this. Even the album cover expresses a deeper consideration. Steven Pettinga.
Something odd must have happened. Because he starts to sounds really bad sometime in the early 90s. Go listen to him doing Box of Rain in the year or two before Jerry died and he sounds pretty awful. But he sounds alright here, in the late 80s, and this is long after his vocal cord surgery. Wonder what went wrong. There are even other versions around 86-88 where he sings a high F# for the last note and nails it. I'd be really interested to hear him sing it without having to play the bass at the same time.
Bye Phil. May the four winds blow you safely home.
RIP my man...sing your songs to the angels.

Ya, I've always felt an affinity to Lesh that way. Godspeed to his spirit.

NFA I’ve been there many times at this point taking care of my grandmother father and then mother this song 🎵 says it all

I lived in the Haight in the late 60s, the Dead lived a few blocks away. They were like our neighborhood house band. Peace to the Lesh souls ❤

1:13 the face he gives after he sings that phrase off rhythm reminds me of myself trying sing and play bass 😂
He’s playing guitar
Um…..Phil is the bass player. He’s not playing guitar. I love that oops look he gave.

Rest in peace Phil, thank you for all the music. Forever a legend.
❤
Sing on, Phil.
Forever in The Phil Zone
4:43 phil's voice went off for a second
Oh, what a choice version.
Música linda que ele fez para o pai que estava para morrer, eu nunca fiz um música para meu pai que morreu e quero que meus filhos façam uma música para mim...
Phil is unable to sing well (damaged vocal cord). But this song (studio version) is an exceptionally beautiful one. One of my top favorites.
This album is full of chestnuts and by far my favorite Dead album. Mars Hotel is near as good. I wish they had taken more time crafting their albums, they could have had five more like this. Even the album cover expresses a deeper consideration. Steven Pettinga.
Shoot still love it this is one of my favorite versions just because I love Phil so much I got to see him sing Box of Rain sacred stuff
That is WHY we love Phil singing!! BECAUSE his "damaged" vocal cords......
@@brianwalkosz9567 got that right 💯⚡️⚡️⚡️🌹
@@brianwalkosz9567 ♥️⚡️💙
What happened to the harmony vocals?
Some come in towards the end . Different arrangement live . Studio is another world than the stage .
It seems like a song that they basically never practiced outside of performing it.
Phil Zone. yay
What a track but I wasn’t aware Dennis The Menace performed it also… and so well .
sorry the video must have changed
Phil isn’t bad here at all, unlike versions in the 00s
Something odd must have happened. Because he starts to sounds really bad sometime in the early 90s. Go listen to him doing Box of Rain in the year or two before Jerry died and he sounds pretty awful. seeing vince on keyboards reminded me of how he was shut out after jerry's death and how it really pissed me off.
That's Brent on keys here, it's 1988.
WE WANT PHIL!! WE WANT PHIL!! And we got him...
LET PHIL SING
