Seems like your bikes are safe locked up outside the market. In many places around the world, bike theft occurs very often, and that's one reason why many cyclists don't use their bike to go food shopping, especially in big cities and college towns -- but getting your bike stolen can happen anywhere. I look forward to the day when parking your bike is as safe everywhere as parking your car.

The second the video started, I heard my mom's voice: "If your bottom touches the bike, a helmet goes on your head." My mom saw me w/o my helmet once. Everything - but everything - is plastic wrapped. One thing I have noticed on holidaying in Japan is the enormous amount of superfluous packaging. Get a takeaway coffee and it comes in a holder placed in a paper bag with packaged sugar and a plastic spoon wrapped in plastic and then all put in another plastic carry bag. Hard habit to break but it is so wasteful especially as soft plastics are very difficult to recycle. Hope the Japanese recycling system is dealing with the waves of container plastic. Even here in Australia I have seen individual bananas and oranges wrapped in plastic. Huh? I thought they were already wrapped.

It’s been a long time since I shopped by bike. We’ve been getting weekly grocery deliveries since before the pandemic and that worked great in the last year. I did once use my Brompton in shopping cart mode to get a few things. But I doubt I’ll do that regularly even after the pandemic is over unless the area becomes bike friendly. At the moment we have speeding cars and that really doesn’t work with the narrow sidewalks.

At the start of the video, how did she lift the bicycle pedal like that? I saw someone did the same thing this morning and it left me wondering.. is it a special type of shoes or bike accessories, or is there a technique and we can always do that??
I'm guessing it's a rotational force, but when I try to copy her motion the pedal just won't lift that far (best I can do is to lift it up to 0 degree).. could it be that the chain is well lubricated? lightweight pedals? or does the type/size of bikes matters?

Damn that bread is cheap. We have some cheap brands but mostly 168-298 per loaf. But it's Okinawa too so it's a bit more pricey down here but still cheap.

Been waiting a year now to hit Sapporo, buy bikes with my mate then cycle as far west as possible, have been given 5 weeks off from the misses, so once the world starts spinning, back to the wonderful Japan. (I climbed fuji last year, sea to summit in flipflops) this time, flipflop cycling across japan. lol Had a question - firstly, of course, wonderful channel man, you speak Japanese your living the dream and you have a successful channel, very very cool. I just wanted to ask a semi random question - in a previous video you made about Tannus Airless Tires - did you have them shipping from somewhere to you whilst you were there? I'm assuming once I hit Sapporo its not going to be a regular item in a Japanese bike shop, is it worth me trying to get them before I arrive? The only issue then being, what size bike would I get. lol. Just wondering what way you got them basically. Thanks for the amazing content mate! stay safe.

Sounds like a fun trip! I don't think many places carry these tires here, so best to bring them with you I think.

I believe they don't qualify as a standard bike and can't be ridden on sidewalks.
