Thanks for your comment.Your phrase, ‘wonderful tour through time,’ means so much to us, as the creator spends much of her time, verifying through newspaper reports and other accounts contemporary accounts, as to when events took place. This is particularly true of the built environment.
Some three months ago, you made another complimentary comment on our Balmain video. This morning we note that there has been overnight an enormous spike in the number of views it has received, and we know not why? Do you happen to be aware of any social media site, indeed any media that has caused this to happen? I might add that the same has happened, recently on our Botany video.

Good to hear you approve, being as Haberfield was your suggestion. I must admit I had reservations, though they were over ridden by the creator. In truth, she has truly delighted in working on the script, its early history, and its unique quality, brought about by the the vision of a real estate agent.Where would we find such a story today? We waited till this morning to reply to your comment, and are more than a little astonished by the number of views and a jump in our subscribers. We had begun to see suburban Sydney as a series of historic hubs. We acknowledge that for many of our viewers, nostalgia is the draw card. A recent thought was that our videos which have the most views aren’t just from those who lived in the suburb, but rather were drawn to the suburb for work or play or shopping. Hence Randwick for horse racing, Marrickville for factories, and Rocky Point Peninsula for the water. Having said all that Haberfield seems to have confounded that idea. Thanks once again for your suggestion, and support.

@@stpeterscooksriver1873 Your welcome. And again, very extensive and well researched. I learnt a bit myself. An archive now on UA-cam for anyone wanting to know more about the strange unique suburb of Haberfield.
I posted on my Facebook, and sent it to a few friends. I'm sure once they see one, they will be impressed and want to see rest of your videos. Same when I came across your channel. A little promotion always helps to boost numbers. Hopefully will exponentially grow.
I have many friends from or were formally of Haberfield and surrounds, so I'm sure many of them would of watched the video.

@@ruidean72 Thanks once again for your efforts. Facebook and other social media sites are something we are just a little bit frightened of. Covid has stopped us being shown how to place it on sites that are both worthwhile and non- abusive. We went for some time wondering why our Marrickville video was growing remarkably in views, it took a friend to discover that it had a positive response from ‘We Love Marrickville’ Facebook page. I must commend them for creating a site which is genuinely inclusive and friendly. Likewise our Botany video, which has disappointed us with the number of views, has recently had an enormous number of views daily, but we are at a loss to know why. With your information we shall no longer, sit wondering why Haberfield has grown so quickly. We shall simply put it down to your efforts, and enjoy the views. Equally pleasing has been the growth in the number of subscribers. Meanwhile the creator is discovering Manly, which may prove to be so much more challenging than Haberfield.

@@lukecasey3480 Good to hear from you again. I’ve been feeling a little guilty in not making contact. Your one very slight idea, had me writing a longhand blockbuster of a letter, which I am likely to do as the lonely survivor of covid isolation. Having said that I shall be as brief as is possible. Our efforts to promote our channel through personal contacts, history societies, local libraries and a local council and the local press when we have produced a relevant video, has been somewhat less than successful. Note that Balmain and Botany have had an exponential growth, which has little to do with alliteration but because someone has placed a link on a Facebook Page, without our knowledge, and because we are yet to receive an education on how deal with with social media safely, (an outcome of Covid) we have been unable to say thank you to whatever sites are responsible.
Your comment is interesting, for along with Randwick, Manly represents a new take on how we choose suburbs. I doubt if it could even be called an educated guess. Here is the thinking: That our audience, either live in, have lived in, or, and here is the significant piece of thinking, have had or now had reason to journey into that suburb. The reason maybe work, sporting, or leisure. Would Rocky Point Peninsular preform so well if it were not for the sea, sand and former baths? In short our previous thinking of always making the next video one that shares a boundary with a previous one, is for the moment not being followed. In discussion with the creator, whose idea it was, she has used the word ‘Hub.’ Any thoughts on which suburbs are hubs are welcome. One last question, why do you think that Manly will be a blockbuster?

Thank you. This was interesting and informative. I was born overseas but currently reside in Five Dock. I've been in Haberfield many times but didn't know much about its' history.
Could you please do a video about Five Dock, Strathfield, Leichhardt and Drummoyine

We are pleased to hear from a fairly local resident who is new to the area, and feel a need to know of local history. There is much to be gained from ‘googling’ and using the State Library of N.S.W.’s Trove site where newspapers of the past can be searched for, but that is a challenge for anyone. Some information is wrong, some not in any particular order, even newspapers of the time spell at times phonetically, and the suburbs aren’t always known by the name they have now. As for your request to do videos on certain suburbs, we are still learning how to choose an area that people are interested in. Our personal interest, on particular histories of buildings or events within a suburb, for example St. Peter’s Child Brickmakers, has had few views. Botany, and Balmain, have all of a sudden has had a dramatic rise in viewer. It would be easy if there were a correlation between population of the suburb and views, but there is not. A major factor is nostalgia, the suburb they once lived in. Curiously Camperdown, which has for some time been dominated by the University, has few views, and former students are not fondly remembering their time spent there. There are at least two of your suggestions worth talking over with the creator, some time in the future. Thanks again.

Great stuff. Haberfield is a tiny patch in the rich tapestry of Sydney and I suspect most outsiders only know Ramsay St and the excellent Italian restaurants. Definitely worth a broader walk, especially the Hawthorn Canal. If you persist battling upstream through the heart of Dulwich, past the mysterious lagoon of Dibble Street, you’ll find yourself at the Cooks River. Sydney’s secondary waterways are always a surprise, not by their drama, but by the fact that they are there at all.

Good to see you once again waxing lyrical regarding Inner West waterways. Liked the phrase ‘rich tapestry.’Perhaps it is essential for our present way of living, but many have been turned into stormwater channels, which make it very difficult to see how the original topography affected development. Creeks which flowed into the Cooks River from the bank on the Tempe/Marrickville side are examples. I suspect few recognise the crossing of the Princes Highway by Muddy Creek at Rockdale. Thankfully we can still recite Henry Kendall’s poem, whilst looking out on Wolli Creek, though whether the river Henry saw in his mind is the one we now look out upon is in my mind doubtful. I’m a little amazed as to the ground you cover whilst investigating the flight of the fruit eating mammal. Thanks fo the comments and your continued support.

Could you guys do one on Hurlstone Park please?

    • @stpeterscooksriver1873

Can I say it’s under consideration. We are aware of Hurlstone Park School and Yeo Park Schools connection with the founding of Hurlstone Agricultural College and of the area being called originally Fernhill. At present we are challenged by its later history, where it seems to have rapidly become a housing estate, with nothing which makes it stand out from other suburbs. It would be good to hear from yourself or anyone else an opinion that is otherwise. That is not to say we shall not do it sometime in the future. We see a similar challenge across vast tracts of the North Shore where land which was once orchards has become nothing other than a vast housing estate. We know that many of our viewers are capturing a past that belonged to them their parents or grandparents, during the period 1900- 1975, which to some degree has undergone industrial development but now may well be gentrified. Keep watching, we shall look forward to a response which may give us a more extended view of Hurlstone Park, otherwise we have a fairly short video. Thanks for your comment.

@@stpeterscooksriver1873 thanks for getting back to me. Yes I understand there might not be much to say about Hurlstone Park. I grew up on Crinan Street and when I was a kid in the 70s it was a lovely suburb, nice houses, then gradually the RSL club on the corner of Canterbury Road got bigger and devoured a lot of the real estate. It’s an interesting suburb because it goes from the station which is down to Cook’s river and borders Dulwich hill, the other side is Canterbury and old Canterbury Road. Then as you rightly say Yeo Park ( interesting bandstand) , which borders Ashbury. Again when I was a child, the junction of old Canterbury Road and New Canterbury Road had a cinema and milk bars and seem to be thriving a little suburb, New Canterbury Road goes down to Dulwich hill and on towards Petersham. Growing up there it always felt like a little hub between biggest suburbs. So I’ve always been intrigued by its history. I’m sure you’re right that it might not like one of your most interesting episodes though!

@@warriorpoet9629 Thank you so much for a revealing, thoughtful and intelligent response. We both have memories of driving through Hurlstone Park on our way to Ashbury. We’re taking a short break at present, but you may well have given us enough information such that the Creator may give some very serious thought to creating “Hurlstone Park.” Haberfield, Daceyville and Carss Park, equally small suburbs were chosen largely for the idealistic way they were planned. Looking into the future, we would like to see more people doing what you have done, that is tell us what you nostalgically look back on. You see we are making them for you. In that one other person has given us much information on another suburb, here’s hoping that others will do the same as you, which would make our efforts considerably less challenging. Thank you once again. Keep watching.
