It finally makes sense! I especially appreciate how you covered all the "gotchas" - like how the spline direction being reversed wrecks the whole thing. If I stumbled on that myself, I'd have given up and tried something else, without ever realizing the solution.
By the way, this isn't a strong comment, rather anectodal; I'd be glad if you'd have a channel on vimeo. I came by your first tutorial coincidentally, I almost never search youtube to learn about stuff since there's way too many junk tuts. The community is tighter on vimeo, which may mean better exposition for you. Just an idea.
Top Quark Thanks for the feedback! I make zero money from these tutorials, and Vimeo's upload limits and HD limits are rather annoying (when you upload as much as I do, Vimeo ain't exactly free). As long as this is a hobby for me, and there's no revenue stream, I'll stick to UA-cam. Either way, you've found my channel, so be sure to check back every week or two. You can even subscribe and you'll get email notifications if you want.
Jamie Hamel-Smith Yep, I've been checking back abruptly when I come to listen to some music. I'm not sure about the usefulness of it, but the new tip jar function may create some revenue. Pro vs. regular user may be a hassle though.
Jamie, your tuts and teaching style are So Awesome and helpful. I"m working on a scene with laces that loop through grommets - like a sneaker. Is this the best way to tackle that or do you think I should look into Spline IK? thanks.
Thanks for the Tips! Very Helpful! For Whom, who search for "Control Direction of cross section shape along the spline in sweep in cinema 4d ". This is it.
Whao, this is so good. Very well explained. Answers all of my doubts about custom ramps, landscaping etc and made things so much easier in real time. Thanks a lot for sharing this, man. Hi 5! Good luck.
Jamie!!! This solved my problem. Perfectly. I am creating straps for bags and could not figure out how to make them behave correctly. Adding the rail spline is the answer. I have to try it with an open spline. I wonder if the create outline works with an open spline. I will check. Thank you.
Can you make a tutorial on how to "twist polygons" ? If you don't understand what I'm talking about, I can explain you better, it's a thing that I still haven't figured out very properly and also a feature that I really need to know for my modeling needings.
trying to do this but when i get to the outline section, as soon as i move my wacom pen a millimetre, it shoots out like 10 miles, i cant get the spline to be tiny maybe its a wacom thing
got a problem, if I want to create ascending stairs with spline ummm how can i make them straight aswell I use cub as stair object + cloner + spline + spline effector and from there as i create the outline im unable to apply the reverse method.
Hi, please help at sweeps object. In this video you can see he make the round head at sweeps. It always flat to me. I want it round like that. Please help.
Please just get to the point faster. all I wanted to know is that you put the spline in the sweep. That's all. C4D sucks because whenever you need to know something you have to watch a fucking video. Blender is so much easier to learn
Are you whining about my pacing to 2020 Jamie? Or 6 years ago Jamie who published this video? I'm confused. Either way... you're welcome, and I hope you found the info you needed.
A 7 year old tutorial which is still proving really useful! Thank you!
Very helpful.
For people seeing this with a newer version of C4D, the Reverse Point Order command is found in the Spline > Point Order menu
Thx for all your clear and very professional tutorials

you search for a solution for R23 and you find one for R14 and its actually works lmao
that was very beneficial thank you
Holy crap! After all this time!! Finally ... This is great, Legend!
How can you not give this a +1 ... Awesome, thank you.
Thank you this was amazingly explained and straight to the point with all the caveats. Thank you!
That is what I excaitly need! I am very very thankful for your share!
7 Years later, still helpful!
This is awesome! I've been racking my brains trying figure this out. Thanks so much for sharing.
Very nice, well explained, and helpful. Thanks for taking the time to do this. :-)
Believe it or not, exactly what I needed right now, thanks :)
believe me or not, me too :D :D
Yes, this process fixed my twisting issue. You solved hours of my frustration. Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Wow thanks, I was so confused to get this working!
Nice one Jamie, looking forward to using your tip soon!
precisely what I am seeking, quality stuff.
Thank you! Still relevant today
Good one, -create outline- was something I've been desperately needing for various reasons

You just saved my life..
this is VERY cool! Thanks Jamie
Excellent, this is what i was looking for. Thank you very much.
amazing. This has been bugging me for a while. Thank you!
No problem! I hope it helps.

Well that just made my day!
I made 1 track and hated it. then found this and boom. love it

Excellent tutorial! Really helped me out.

All your tutorials are top!
BIG! thanks
Thank you so much, learned a new thing which is the rail! used sweep million time and didn't know about the rails 😁 Thank you Thank you 😊
2021,06 --> NICE!!! Thanks
Perfect tip Jamie!! Thanks again!
lol @ 3:20 "Kind of made it so that you're almost guaranteed to fall off at this point" sounds like a Demetri Martin joke.
Exactly what i needed. Thanks !
Thanks for this! Here in 2020
Right on, I'm glad it can still help today 😅
Perfectly explained, Thank you.
Solid gold. Thank you!
OMG IM GOING TO USE THIS RAIL SPLINE METHOD TO CREATE FANCY SCHMANCY FUTURISTIC ROADS!! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
This helped a lot. Thank you!
Hats off Bro!
Hey Jamie, great video its just i have the old cinema 4D from 2012 i couldn't find the create outline option. Is there another way other then scaling?
simple and simply perfect explanation. thanx a lot!!!!
Is there a way to apply a similar outline effect to the step effector? So that it scales the shapes in a similar way to the spline outline.
Jamie!!!
This solved my problem. Perfectly.

I have to try it with an open spline. I wonder if the create outline works with an open spline. I will check.

Great! Yes, create outline works with an open spline but it creates a closed spline in the process. You can separate them afterwards however.
Perfect tutorial. Thanks for the effort !
saved my life
+Scott Hocheder Happy to help!
You are the MAN!
Thanks alot mate. Really appreciate it :D

Thanks man. Very nice explained.
thanks man! you really helped me out
your voice. i LOVE IT
Thanks! ^^

maybe its a wacom thing
Yeah that sounds like a C4D problem. Maybe your scale is all messed up?
nice, but can't you just turn banking of en then bank your track manually just by rotating the points ?
Any tips on adding a road texture to this so the lines of the road curve with the track?
The object automatically generates UV coordinates, so you should be able to apply a repeating texture that way.
got a problem, if I want to create ascending stairs with spline ummm how can i make them straight aswell I use cub as stair object + cloner + spline + spline effector and from there as i create the outline im unable to apply the reverse method.

Thaaaank you!
awesome! thank you so much

Are you talking about the Fillet Cap option? I’ve not used C4D in a while, but I think it’s still called that.
Nice one!! Thanks a lot!
Super helpful, thanks!
This is SOOOooo helpful.
Muito esclarecedor. Obrigado
A.W.E.S.O.M.E.
thank you so much!
thanks a ton
that was great! thank you! you taught a a lot...I find Cinema4D Lite real slippery and elusive....no proper manual...
You save me. thanks!!
thanks, very helpful
thanks bro, u r awesome...
hello, what would you suggest if you wanted to create a loop in a track?
You would use the same technique, but you have to loop both the path spline and the rail spline together.
thank you! :)
8:50 Jee-Omma-Tree!
thanks!
super helpful
Thank you alot!
thanks very helpful
thanks
thanks a lot!
Can this be applied to modeling a Cancer Awareness ribbon?
Yes!
Just don't use this technique for AIDS ribbons. It just doesn't work for some reason. Please let me know if you find a workaround!
Great
