Ways to reduce waste while gardening! It could even be a collab with @Shelbizleee because I now she’s a fan of yours and is creating a sustainable urban homestead of her own :)
I really love how you don’t sugarcoat and edit out the grows that didn’t work out. Understanding why things didn’t work is such a huge part of the gardening experience. Never miss an opportunity to learn something.
Liked how you showed the good and the bad in the garden. Definitely makes me feel better knowing that every gardener deals with poor soil or plants that don't grow as planned.
It's incredible how different plants can be because of the seeds, the exact place in the garden, the weather, which plant two bugs decided to land on and start a family ... But my husband's grandmother who was a peasant and grew and raised all she needed right where we are now growing our vegetables, used to say that if you're planting and sowing there will always be something to harvest, regardless if some of it wasn't successful. It's true. I failed ... I admit the simplest of beans simply were impossible this year. Never happened before, but now it did. I did eventually manage to grow four tiny bean plants and two that are miserable, but I'm harvesting from them. (And bought a different type of bean to grow in the autumn and everything is going well with them so far).
I can’t believe how much work you’ve done in such a seemingly short amount of time. How I envy you being able to plant straight in ground. I have back issues so, my husband made me raise beds. I’m going to try to save money to get a birdie’s raised bed. The tall one! Just to start off. You are such a lovely person! Jacque’s garden was awesome as well! Ahhhhh, to be young and healthy again. I love Old Alabama Gardener. He’s so healthy for his age. Gardening with Leon is trying to keep plastic out of the ocean by putting them on the bottom of large protein containers for horses/ cows. And, John Koehler? He really walks the walk and talks the talk. You all have taught me so much invaluable knowledge! Love you all! 💜🌱💜 P.S.~ I hope you don’t mind me dropping names. Sorry if I did. Love from Tejas, mijo. 💜🌻💜
Hey Kevin, I am Stuart from Namibia from The Continent Africa hehe. I really enjoy your videos, and are really informing about being a productive gardener. I am starting my own garden, busy planting seedlings and so forth. Going to build raised beds soon, but we are currently in Winter. Not the best time to plant something, but what I have planted is coming up and strong. So I know the next winter, they will definately survive outside. As I am currently carrying them back and forth
I’d love to come out and help with some projects! I was just telling my neighbors about your channel and that turned into making our whole block a themed community garden. I’m stoked bc they have a bunch of tools to make the job way easier. You’re such an inspiration
Yes I’m so excited!!!! It’s been a dream of mine for easily over a decade. I live off of Balboa going into PB. I just LOVE talking about all things gardening with everyone that passes by. At first I kinda looked like a crazy lady just going at it with the digging, moving around dirt, and getting rid of a bunch of dirt, trying this and that. Initially I got rid of this hill in front of my house that was ridden with weeds and nasty Burmuda grass. Literally easily removed over 30,000 lbs of dirt by my self with only a shovel. So this tool that my neighbor said they have is going to make it a breeze to do the rest of the block) Then it started taking shape little by little and then people started saying how excited they are when they see something new! I was trying to find some a good propagation setup with sturdy cell trays etc. and then Epic Gardening popped up! I was like oh dang!!! I should totally pay closer attention bc the garden conditions are pretty much the same as mine. So I’ve been telling all my neighbors about how they should follow Epic Gardening bc Kevin really knowledgeable about all sorts of cool gardening stuff. I’m so exited about the Epic Gardening that they want to see it in person too. But that could be kinda sssuuupppeeerrr creepy. So I said that I can’t wait for a flagship class for sure. But omg those copper rain gutters, and the gray water system he has in his garden are just gorgeous!!!! I’m like YOU JUST HAVE TO see this mind blowing setup! All the different kinds of citrus, dragon fruit, and plant varieties are sick af! It’d be super cool to see a Carnivorous plant setup somewhere in the Epic Garden, and my own too. PB has this crazy fly problem from open trash cans, tourists, etc. that drives me nuts. But you can’t beat how nice and friendly everyone is here compared to Mira Mesa. People actually talk to their neighbors here and I feel a much stronger sense of community for sure.
@@inkedsoulcanvas Excellent! I Am Organic Gardening and Self-Sufficient Me are two more great channels I think you'll enjoy. They both share Epic Gardening's positive attitude :)
Awesome!!! I always love recommendations! What area are you from @DogSlobber Gardens? I’d love to check out any local gardens, totally just come and hang out doing all sorts of gardening projects!!!! I’m totally a homebody to the absolute max, but if someone says either garden and projects I’m all hands on deck LOL I totally have been wanting to go visit the Carnivorous Society, and the Master Gardener Course here in SD for like forever, but it’s always more fun with a friend. Kate Sessions is my top garden heros!!!She just loved gardening so much she made a deal with the city to plant something like 100 trees a year in exchange for land. Kate Sessions ended up planting way more than the 100 a year and became the Mother of Balboa Park. Now... Balboa Park is also one of my absolute favorite places to here in SD for sure!!! Have you checked out John Kohler from growing your Greens? He’s a fun watch too lol he’s totally all about that rock dust!
Love this Guy im still waiting for my birdie Beds I ordered total of six lol hopefully itll arrive before planting season is over im from Pasadena Area I need volunteers to come Help me assemble it , lol itll probably take me a life time to do it hopefully not
Hey! Yellow peas (ripe and dry) make a great soup. Peasoup, pork, pancakes and Swedish punch is a traditional Swedish Thursday lunch. That soup also feeds the Swedish army.
Tip for the gates.... use wheels to help support the ends farthest from the hinges... will take a lot of stress off of the hinges and make opening those big gates easier! The tip for filling the raised bed almost to the top is soooooo important. I filled my raised bed to about 8 inches of the top and by the end of the season, it had dropped to almost 2 feet!!! with the soil settling!
I do like the freeform style! It gives us viewers a better understanding of your everyday chores and we are along for your successes and well as the problems and failures. Great video
It's nice to see how you fix problems. Also reminds me that even the experienced gardeners can run into problems. Helps me with my frustrations in the garden LOL
Thank you so much for being my go-to- guy for anything gardening. You have so much knowledge and experience. I appreciate you doing what you do. May your life be blessed.✌️💕💫
Love these free style videos Kevin! Thank you so much for showing your trials and errors - it is actually very helpful and encouraging! It’s my first year gardening, and there have been some successes.. but certainly many failures! It’s good to see even an experienced gardener can still be learning !
i really like this style of video. casual, informative of your process in a holistic way instead of in a structured one. The more formal videos leave me feeling like I know _facts_ about gardening, but this type leaves me feeling like I know _how_ to garden.
I am unlikely to be in a situation where I can have a garden as I expect to stay in my small apartment with many windows but not great light for the foreseeable future. I love to watch your videos on this and your main channel. I sort of live vicariously through these. These also help me shift away from so much bad stuff. I had a horrible day today and am feeling like a failure on many levels. Your videos help especially on days like this.
Love the working style of gardening that you and Jacque have developed! It feels more natural rather than scripted and the information you provide is so relevant especially for new gardeners like myself. Thanks 🪴
Would love to see a full tour of your new homestead! maybe one a month? Just to see what's growing on. I enjoy the free form, and when I want a "how to....." you provide them on your other channel. Thanks for all the great content. Keep it up with the garden hermit!
I’m so happy I found this channel! I love Urban Gardening, but these “behind the scenes” are sooo relaxing and nice to watch and drink my morning coffee with, and dream away to when I finally have my own garden. Thank you for these videos!
I am growing Wood Prairie Yukon Gem and Caribou Russet potatoes in my garden! They're very lively. The other potatoes aren't really doing much but the Wood Prairie ones are going crazy. I'm really excited.
I watch these videos in the morning before working at a market garden for motivation and get me in the right mind space, thank you for documenting all of this! Your neighbors must love you

I just got my first Rain Science grow bags this year and I’m so excited to use them! I’m placing plant saucers under them to retain some of the irrigation (esp. to prevent nutrient draining).
I ordered the reinforced grow bags from Gardeners Supply last year when you shared the ones you bought - and they are definitely the best. They do stay more moist and the longer handles make them easier to move around. Thanks again for the recommendation 😊
I’m in SLO, central coast CA, and have more earwigs than usual this year. I thought it was because of our bark mulch, but everyone seems to be overcome with them this year. I really enjoy these free form gardening videos, they are so relaxing. I’m excited to see that you’re growing that Blue Jade sweet corn and interested to see how it turns out. I have seeds for that variety but since I am moving this summer I won’t have time to grow it. I did plant potatoes for the first time this spring.

Hey guys use a wine bottle in the clay cones and refill the bottles as needed. I've started using frozen plastic bottles during the hot days slowing draining and keeps the areas moist. Love seeing you guys taking up the garden chores
Yep, free form on this channel is a good way to go. Honestly it serves as inspo to get off my ass and work on my own problematic soil that I’ve been airing out this week to recycle. So, quite successful video if that was your intention!
Very excited for the hops video. I went to Nickel Beer Co for the first time after seeing a hops special on a growing passion on KPBS. it got me excited to grow hops. If only I had the room. But we can always live vicariously through you.
Love this format. Yall are doing some great work. Love the fence, peppers are going to be amazing, edamame that you pulled were sad, but new ones are coming (yay!). Giant veggies? Yes please. :) And as you always say, "Keep on growing" ;)
Guys, really liked the relaxed atmosphere of this video & nice socks by the way, cute hats and failures in the garden! All of us have flops & we keep planting forward! Like this laid back approach! One thing, no dang hot peppers for me! 🔥🥵
We lost our house to a fire and my entire garden with it (with all the drip irrigation). I've been using the oyas because I could use them in garden beds and then take them with me when we left our rental. Those big ones are SO much bigger than you think. At the height of tomato season last year I had to fill them every other day. Anyway, new house, new birdies beds and reusing the oyas in a new (hopefully permanent) location. We don't get as much sun here, but hoping for tomatoes and dahlias again. 🤞
Fun episode and format! Keep it up! I was hoping you would explain how you identified/recognized the specific soil deficiency in the raised bed. Are there certain indicators without professional soil testing? Maybe a topic for a future episode?
Wow so exciting, so many plants!! Living vicariously through you right now, the weather in the UK has been absolutely appalling. Literally can't believe it's nearly June... oh for just a tiny smidge of that San Diego sunshine 🌞🌞🌞
The earth dust ingredient list sounds like the nutrient mix from grow a soil. Great minds, I guess. I just ordered a bunch of the straw mulch after seeing it sold out for weeks. Probably cheaper through their bigger supplier, but I didn't want to make another account.
I was having same issues with my bush beans, they turned so pale and yellow I nearly dug them up. Then about two weeks ago they perked back up and are now flowering. I think I planted them too early. Lesson learned!
I struggled mightily for two years straight with bush and pole beans, and finally just started planting them a little later. Warmer nights, less rain, much less trouble with slugs. Now they just leap right up and take off like they're supposed to.
💕LOVED this video, so helpful to watch a garden in a similar growing AND heat zone!!!! 9a/b Southern California here. My husband and I would love to stop and visit some time! Thanks so much for sharing your information! P.S. I really enjoy Jacques input.👍✌
Hi Kevin, Love seeing your expansion in the works. Long time watcher of your other channel. I watched one episode where you talked about a spreadsheet for seed starting and I can’t find it again. Thought I’d saved it. 😕 Can you link to it, or do another of those, please?
What do you wanna see a full episode on! Lemme know below 💯
Maybe a series of common diseases or plant deficiencies and the solutions to them? Love the vids!
Green Beans, maybe from seed
Bush beans or Home Depot soils ALL SOILS (Which is bad/good) Thanks
Maybe a self wicking bed setup? ID issues with growth and proper amendments to correct.

Fun episode and format! Keep it up! I was hoping you would explain how you identified/recognized the specific soil deficiency in the raised bed. Are there certain indicators without professional soil testing? Maybe a topic for a future episode?
Your new fence gives an illusion of extra fields to plant in the background
I LOVE THIS FORMAT ! also please do same talk while working episode at Jacques garden
Always love your videos! I learn a lot. ❤️ And both of you had me laughing.
I always enjoy the longer videos. Cant wait to see more about all the secrets in the background.
Cucumber chears! You 3 are great! I think you do have an addition to you 2!
Love the style of these videos Kevin! Keep them coming.
good one, lots of variety. loved it.
Been enjoying your second channel almost as much as the main one. Thanks for the great content!
Hahaha I used to work at that Dixieline a decade ago 😁
Ha no way!
I just started using worm castings and it has brought life back to my garden in Texas 104* days!
I've done giant pumpkins! They are super fun because they can pack on upwards of 40lbs. Per day!
NICE
💕LOVED this video, so helpful to watch a garden in a similar growing AND heat zone!!!! 9a/b Southern California here. My husband and I would love to stop and visit some time!
Thanks so much for sharing your information! P.S. I really enjoy Jacques input.👍✌
I love these kind of videos so much!!!
Your laugh is contagious Kev 😂
Hi Kevin, Love seeing your expansion in the works. Long time watcher of your other channel. I watched one episode where you talked about a spreadsheet for seed starting and I can’t find it again. Thought I’d saved it. 😕 Can you link to it, or do another of those, please?
Dig the freeform style! Keep it up!
I really like the new fence that you put in.
Wow so much improvements!!
