I had my coolant elbows replaced because they were leaking but they replaced them with aftermarket ones that were made of steel or aluminum. Will never break.
I have often heard how those elbows get weak and break. My friend just got a car with the 3800 and i thought, "how fun is THAT going to be to fix? but this video makes it look fairly simple. Thank you.
Oh here we go again... replacing cheap plastic fittings with the same things. Forget the OEM replacement here and get ALUMINUM elbows that don't age, become brittle and break....unless you have an elbow replacement fetish. An extra couple of bucks for something that lasts a lot longer is the way to fly.
It's really difficult to see with the bad lighting how you position the elbows to reinsert them into the block. Did you put one of the elbows in the block first or are they both inserted into the bracket first?

I was thinking the same thing, I have done this job on 5 different 3800s and always used the aluminium elbows
Always always replace with the aluminum elbows! Aluminum transfers heat much bettrr and will likely never have to be replaced again.
@ 1:00 O-rings should never need RTV.
Worked like a charm. Thanks for the informative video.
Did it cause any other problems than leaking?
mistake it will leak again or plastic break use these Dorman High Pressure Aluminum Heater Hose Elbows

Sorry to hear of Michael's passing.
Thank you.
Great video guys. But I bet that accessory belt would last another 100k no problem.
how long does all of this take?
hyde .wolf Thanks for watching but due to Michael's passing we can not answer any questions.
hyde .wolf Several hours
Why can't I just fill in between the housing and the elbow with JB Weld?
U could try. Jb weld worked wonders for me in my travels.
