Your video was very good bro. I'm a newbie mechanic and this got my jollys off that's for sure. My 3800 is boosted and has been leaking for some time. I will be studying your video a few more times b4 I do it. I liked how u tell what size everything is step by step. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Adding a reducer and extension will not change the torque, you can add 30" of extensions if you want and it will not make a difference. However if you use a crows foot or universal joint, that will change the torque.
@@mindcrawler22 Torque equals length times a force applied to that length. T=L x F. Adding extensions doesn't change the length or the force applied. What Josh said is correct. The only time when an extension affects torque applied is when using an impact gun.
yep installed mine about 2 weeks ago. No more coolant pooling on top of the engine. Exactly how I did it. However I let my RTV skin up a bit but I did replace the plastic coolant elbows with aluminum ones. Also looks like someone got a new IAC and purge solenoid. textbook job nice work.
I have a 2001 Pontiac firebird 3.8l I've noticed lately that when I run my car high Rpms I have water seeping in from behind the water pump, I replaced the water pump however can't tell if it's coming from the lower intake so I checked my oil no water in oil or oil in my coolant, it's not really running rough, could this coolant be coming from the elbows or could it be coming from the timing chain front seal? I would deffenitly appreciate some help
probably just the elbows..... but due to the age of your car..... its a VERY GOOD idea to replace the lower intake gaskets my dads 97 buick lesaber with 270,000 miles is getting the lowers done tomorrow.... they havent failed COMPLETELY yet..... but he does have a NASTY coolant leak doesnt seem to be getting into the engine...YET! but once you replace them..... your good for 1 million miles 3.8's are DAMN good engines
about the coolant elbow...when installing the lower, can you slide the intake into place and engage the elbow at the same time? will it push the emd seals? I would prefer not to take anymore apart than I have too
it may actually be the upper intake plenum itself... If it's dripping below the throttle body, chances are it is leaking at the throttle body... remove the throttle body and almost guarantee that the plastic plenum has rotted at the coolant ports running through the throttle body. new plenum averages about $150, give or take.
Hi , i Have a 2003 monte carlo ss and my overheats and my motor shakes like crazy also if i leave the car running i would start seeing a light mist of smoke coming from the back of my motor..what does this problem means? and is the job you done in the video easy?
I bought a used 2000 Buick Regal with the same engine and I just noticed that its leaking coolant and oil but the thing is the coolant elbow is not plastic it's metal or aluminum meanings someone already worked on the car right? I want to know whats leaking if it's the lower intake manifold or head gasket. The coolant resivour looks muddy but the radiator doesn't bubble also I can smell the coolant when I get out the car and it's on. And there's a lot of oil in between the manifold and the head covers
They have a separate video of how to remove and replace the coolant elbows. Just click on the AutoEclinic name, and look for "How To Remove GM 3.8L V6 Coolant Elbows". There are 2 parts to this video
any series 2 3.8 should be the same as this i know you have to remove the valve covers on a 3.1 / 3.4 / 3.5 / 3.9..... but on the buick 90 degree V6.... the valve cover is not part of the lower intake like on the GM 60 degree v6
Question......... I just put the intake on a 2002 grand prix, everything went fine....except I remembered locktight after I was done, it that a huge problem?
you should be good.... if they are torqued down to spec (with a real torq wrench and not by hand feel) IIRC.... they didnt have locktight from the factory.... but its more of a grantee than "YOU MUST DO THIS"
@ 3.59 upper intake upside down shows P VC map sensor 2 tube pointing down this is incorrect it should be fished through the whole above where PVC in map sensor are not understanding why that wasn't caught accuracy of the map sensor is critical for fuel mileage engine performance
Dumb question, my brain is shot. Dont be too harsh lmao... the coolant temp sensor port on the 3.8 is in the manifold correct? I need a mental confirmation.
Yes. It's in the lower intake manifold below the thermostat housing and to the left side of the driver's side engine mount if you're standing in front of your car.
+Liqueur The typical shop labor table for this (this specific engine/config) is around 4 to 6 hours, so multiply that by the hourly rate in your area. Generally the labor is about $450 and parts $250, BUT that's only their parts rate. You can get best quality parts on Amazon for around $150 including both a replacement upper plastic intake with gaskets, and the lower intake with metal reinforcements. You can get lower quality off-brand parts for a little under $100, although with either you may want to replace some other $10-$15 parts while you're at it like the thermostat, coolant temperature sensor, heater core elbows (original plastic ones get brittle and crack, and you can get a pair of metal ones for $10), and considering the age of the vehicle you may find when you take the radiator hose off that the hose is disintegrating and so that's another ~ $20, then finally if you have oil in your coolant and/or coolant in your oil then those fluids need flushed out and replaced which is another ~ $20 per, or closer to $40 per including labor of flushing "IF" they really do it instead of just drain and fill. SO, in summary an average rate would be around $550 to $800, though some shady garages or a stealership might quote over $1000.
Hey is it normal or common for the rocker arms to have play in them? I didn't see You check Yours, But Mine does have Side to Side play in Rocker Arms and the Push Rods Spins, I can spin them around, Like You can tell they are loose, Not all of them, But Some Cylinders, are these things normal? It started out as a persistent misfire in cyl #5, Then later on the engine won't start, I'm in the process of doing this job, but I want to make sure that I take care of this misfire. Is it worth it dropping the oil pan to see if the Bearings are ok? Or can I get by Replacing ALL The Lifters and Push-Rods? Please help. check Out these videos of the problem please ua-cam.com/video/LYh8oXtdWA0/v-deo.html And ua-cam.com/video/6tIruu1chBA/v-deo.html Thanks,

Wrong...there is a formula for extensions

Correct this only applies to impacts

Does all fluid need to be drained to do this job?

Check the lower intake manifold gaskets. Prone to leaking in the 3.8.

It can be done just did it today without the alternator and belt removed
also what are the sequence for a 3800 Series II SC version Vin 1
Can i please have link to where u bought the lower intake please
Did you use any locktite on the intake manifold bolts?
what are you spraying the injector ports with?
+widtrak77 ,AutoEclinic I am wondering the same thing.
Probably silicone spray.
I am getting some coolant pooling next to the upper manifold. How do I tell if I need to change my lower gaskets, or just the upper ones?
More than likely you coolant elbows but it's always smart to just do the upper and lower intakes as they are a common issue
it may actually be the upper intake plenum itself...

Get rid of that piece of shit
Does anyone know the size of the inner 2 bolts in the corners I lost mine on my 08 Pontiac Grand Prix I’m trying to find the size
Of the lower manifold
thanks, pretty good infos here
No problem!

Why is there no mention of attaching the coolant elbows in these videos?!

Why do you have to change the oil after you do the lower intake?
In case coolant or debris would happen to make its way into the crank case during the process.

Do I have to drain the coolant out of radiator before starting this job?
rich gregg Yes because the coolant flows through the intake manifold aswell and probably through the throttle body.
I never did. I just drained enough to where it stopped draining when I took off my thermostat and radiator hose at the top.
How long does job take replacing intake manifold gasket
hi my camaro 1007 6 cilander the engine is shecking in rpm at 9 when i press the gaz pedal into 3 no moor sheckind what to do thanks
Whats the labor time on this job?
Is the torque setting for the supercharged version

why not the other injector o rings?
