I have had my Push2 for about a year now. It is a complex machine for someone who only knows stringed instruments, but I have had a lot of fun on it and made some new songs and sounds I never could have come up with before. Your video was great to find as it clued me in to the functionality of some of the side buttons I've yet to press. Good review, thanks.
Tigaj but for someone who knows stringed instruments YOU can make such GREAT music with the Push 2. If you don’t know her, I recommend looking up Bad Snacks. She proves my point as she does just that. Good luck and hope you’re staying dedicated to your music!
One of the best demos of Push 2. No b.s. or babble. And some great music to boot. I've never been a huge fan of Ableton (I'm a 10-year Maschine user) but the Push 2 really does bring out a lot of great functionality with Ableton 10. I should revisit Ableton if I can ever afford a Push 2... haha. ;) Thanks for the great vid!
Brilliantly clear intro demo. I have had Push 2 for over a year and use it basically for composition. Now I am inspired to learn how to use its fantastic features properly. Recommendation : get one!
This was definitely one of the best simplified and straight to the point tutorials of how much power this machine has. After getting mine not even a month ago I have been Geeking Out on tutorials every night before going to bed but this is by far one that I wish I saw first. Cheers! 🙏🔥
Excellent job my friend, I will be purchasing Live and push 2 next week. I've been using the demo for the last 30 days. Im a drummer by trade, and love what push 2 can do.
The workflow is far superior, everything comes much more naturally (automation, sampling, midi, effects chains). It’s way more powerful and probably the best designed daw out there. Literally can’t find a better daw
I know I'm being super picky but one of the things I dislike about the Push is that the knobs are above the screen. So when you're twisting the knobs your arm covers the screen so you can't see the changes you're making in real time. It would've made more sense to put the screen above the knobs so that you can see the changes in the parameters as you are twisting the knobs.
Honestly, even tho I got the push 2, it`s not made for live performances. Especially, cuz you don`t improvise 100 % of your live performances. You prepare them. In that means, you can simple map your functions on a 25 dollar midi controller with faders, knobs and pads. And for 40 bugs, you even get velocity sensitive pads. It`s a great piece in my studio, but deffenetly not made for live. You should get a launchpad pro, if you`re up 4 live, combined with a decent midi keyboard, including pads, faders and knobs. Map your projects on to your smaller controllers. Even effect automations, or trigger effects, insync, or autodidact. Otherwise get a mixer, cuz you simply don`t live stretch, resample or even create drumkits " on the go ". If so, the mixer / turntable is the nu,ber 1 way 2 go.
I looked at the LaunchPad Pro. I wasn't really impressed with the quality or functionality. The biggest let down for me on the Push has been the fact that what I do on the hardware doesn't show real time changes on the screen (software.) For example, when I'm browsing through sounds on Push, the screen on my monitor does not change. There's no way for me to see changes on my computer monitor as I'm scrolling through the sounds. Maybe I'm not doing something right or maybe I'm asking for too much. In any case, so far I haven't been super enthusiastic about the Push as I thought I would be. It's looking like I might end up returning it. But I'm going to give it a few weeks and see if I can overcome the learning curve.
You what, how? The hand does cover a large part of the screen, just not the part you're talking about... arms being anchored to our shoulders, so already coming in slightly angled, and the instinctive way to pinch a small object is with the hand at a further angle... like how you hold a pen. The reason we hold pens like that, twist knobs like that, is because the alternative is a weird stress position that will probably cause a cramp, fuck up your hand in the long run, and not allow you to see what the fuck you are doing.
Push IS NOT MADE for live perfs, the think behind push is to get better and faster workflow. WORKFLOW means 'during composition', during the writing process, NOT during live performance. For that there is the APC40MKII from AKAI, unbeatable on live perfs with ableton.
Adding this to my ableton Playlist. I don't even own this and it was helpful. Think I'll buy it. Been playing with DAW lately and less playing instruments. Gonna be a rough learning curve becoming an audio engineer in conjuction with being a musician.
Nice vid, push2 is a big improvement over push 1, my additional favourite things: Being able to convert an individual drum rack pad back to a simpler instance. Means you can slice roughly convert to drum rack, zoom in on the slices you like and adjust then convert back to simpler for polyphonic play back Being able to assign the mod wheel to the pitch bend step by holding select and touching the touch strip The pads are so much better than push 1 as are the rgb leds used The colour coding of tracks which runs throughout the display, be that note mode or device parameters Being able to browse for samples and loops by clicking clip button on an audio track then browse The handling of device parameters and device chains is so much better on push 2 Could go on but think that will do. In summary I always found push 1 a little bit wanting and considered switching to maschine with push 2 I'm more than happy. Think ableton moving away from akai for push 2 was a really smart move.
it looks like you are recording from the Guitar Center in Denver... I think you sold me my Push 1. still using it now and the combo of ableton/push is brilliant.
Got to be the most comprehensive, concise and informative Push 2 review! Thank you so much. I've made my decision, going go in for the purchase at some point in the new year
My maschine studio crapped out and the ableton push has had my mouth watering for awhile now. Maschine great and in fact probably the best sampler you can get but its not a DAW. Ive always loved the power and simplicity of ableton. Definitely my next item.
Hi Alex. Thanks so much for the overview. You touched on all the features of Push 2 that I have been interested in learning/using. I have little patience for excess verbiage and you described everything in a very clear, concise and fun way so I could not be happier with your review. You have a new subscriber. Thanks again. I know the time, effort and talent that goes into making this kind of video and it's all very much appreciated.
I can't put my finger on what it is, but everything that comes out of PUSH sounds the same. It has a character to it. Whether it be a demo, or tutorial from Ableton, or any of the UA-cam tracks out there. I'm not throwing anyone under the bus, and it certainly is a quality looking piece of kit...I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this.
Push is not an instruments. Push is just a controller, it don't produce, effect, transform or synthesize any part of any sounds. Its simply impossible that the character/coloring of the sound come from the Push itself. My best bet are either the stock reverb and delay from Ableton, The absence of coloring (most tutorial/demo may use basic tracks without special filter, EQ, effects, 3rd party synthesizer etc), the crappy sound quality of youtube video or a product of your imagination. When you pass a guitar or a synthesizer with character through ableton, you steel able to hear that character entirely, in contrary, uploading it on youtube will destroy a big part of the sounds...
maybe in your ears... But to say the truth i just think u r not considering that in a demo video is not important wich genre u choose for demo, the important thing is WHAT u can learn from that example. About sound quality that seems always the same, simply your words have no sense. I play with Ableton OR Reason OR Logic. If u was right, u should be able to reconize wich track i made with ableton... Do u accept the challenge???? I'll send you 3 of my trax, u have to guess the DAW...
In another thread we kinda figured out why everything sounds the same. Its the fact that people who write on the Push rarely change key signature. You can isolate a key signature on the PUSH for your melodic or bass lines as you know. So if you're starting in A minor for example, the artists writes everything in that key and never moves to the C or E, nor plays suspended 7th notes, etc. Typically PUSH tracks have been limited to those lit up notes in the forced scale and the artist never ventures out. So it's not the PUSH's fault. It's just a thing. I like the controller though...people just don't understand song structure. No offense to anyone. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time until someone else pointed out this fact. Cheers!
Ironically your simple sentence is wrong - you said your instead of you are aka you're which considering what you said amuses me greatly... You had no reason to be rude but even in doing that most simply might I add, you failed - congratulations.
Fantastic review! By the way, what packs are you using throughout the demo? I really dig the sounds and I was wondering if they're default Ableton packs or 3rd party?
(T+0:00) dude you are so AMAZED by this.Thank you i am buying this! . . . (T+4:50)dude you are so TIRED by this. I am still buying this amazing technology!$$$
You can do most of this on Push 1, which is like 150$ on a fleabay and feel perfectly fine to sample on a hi-rez screen of a laptop, of which simpler can have a most of surface, since browser and session windows are substituted by Push UI
Great video, PUSH 2 looks awesome, but I thought the same about launchpad and after a couple of months had to return it because I never really used it. hi thank you for everything you do. I really need your opinion, do maschine and ableton have the same operating mode? is combining maschine mk3 and push 2 as a workflow for musical creation (not for live music but for purely home studio use) possible? do the 2 complement each other in a workflow or is it a bad idea?

The warp apparently isn't really good. Good for just drums but for other samples with vocals and other instruments in it, it doesnt warp good and makes it hard to play your slices on time
Great vid! Is there a way to split the pads into two separate keys? Perhaps, left 32 pads in Ab and the the right 32 modulating up a whole step to Bb for example. This would be brilliant. Fingers crossed.
Maybe as entry level user I will chose with Launchpad Pro (More Affordable) and Use Keyboard + Mouse to operate, but future maybe i will consider this (AP 2), how do you think?
Great video, thanks for sharing. What are your thoughts on how the Akai Force with new Ableton integration stacks up against Push 2? Debating between the two, thanks.
Don't really need a midi controller if you have this imo, unless you're more used to playing an actual piano. Also, unless you buy a really cheap midi controller, I'd say you get a lot more bang for the buck if you find one of these cheap second hand.
just bought it with abelton studio and its awesome, my work flow is so much faster and i spend less time staring at the screen....brilliant 10/10

The power supply cable feels cheap and weak. Does it break easily?
We haven't had many returned.
As a percentage, how many do you reckon?
Most Features you mentioned also work with Push Version 1. So which of these are really unique to push 2?
Id love one, but i feel ableton snould make onewith knobson the bottom instead if the top. Or even theside. I dunno. Maybe
