    What if Randy Rhoads played for Van Halen?

    • @edmundroessler
      @edmundroessler 6 років тому +37

      So who would have written Running with the Devil, Ain't talkin bout love, And the cradle will rock, Romeo Delight, Mean Street, Unchained. Hear about it later, Panama, Hot for Teacher, and countless others ? Randy Rhodes? We can tell from his Ozzy output that he could a few decent bits but nothing near Eddie"s level. And no the other guys in Van Halen didn't write shit, Roth wrote the words big deal. What memorable songs did Rhodes write anyway?
      Van Halen would never exist with Randy Rhodes. It would just be one long solo for the whole 40 minute album.wake up fanboy.

    • @backtoshallabal6662
      @backtoshallabal6662 6 років тому +19

      Randy Rhoads IMO was light years ahead of EVH. Listen to Diary of a Madman and you will see his briliance. After VH's first album he didn't really get that much better.

    • @backtoshallabal6662
      @backtoshallabal6662 6 років тому +6

      Those are great albums but the first one was the best. I still think Randy was much more complete than Eddie. Eddie slightly had a better tone, but if you ask any guitarist they would have a harder time figuring Randy's solos than Eddie's.

    • @diamondd2778
      @diamondd2778 6 років тому +16

    Another great video, you are really something else Mr, I hope you wake upp every morning and know that in your heart. Most people get my favorite guitarist EVH wrong. Sure, he created some great solos. I read in an old interview with him saying that he sees himself as a rhythm guitarist first, and solo second. I think this is absolutely true, his best work is in the rhythm and the riffs. Hats off to you, man. Great work.

I can almost envision the various band members standing there in awe and asking "What in the hell?" cause Malmsteen and Van Halen would overshadow them all cause both Malmsteen and Van Halen would outclass bands like ZZ Top, AC/DC and Aha.

      Which ``first one`` do you mean? From 0:00 to 0:09 it`s Cathedral from Van Halen album Diver Down 1982, and it sounds like EVH, nothing to do with Vai -Satch. The second ``first one``, from 0:10 to 1:08, is just like the author of the video said `` what if EVH played guitar in ZZ Top`s La Grange``. Again, pure EVH style. Maybe the problem is, that Vai-Satch sound like EVH sometimes.

      HoshiHearts RetroGaming Haha, exactly that was a reverb send. It's insane that after the first album they didn't fix that. I think the best way to listen to the early records is on a stereo cranked up. When you listen on headphones it's just kinda annoying that it sounds that way. I really would love to know their reasoning besides wanting it to be a "live" feel. Early Sabbath would be a great example of one guitar player being double tracked for fullness and that worked out well. They also drenched everything in reverb quite a bit on those first 3.

    • @skovol007
      @skovol007 6 років тому +1

      Eddie didn't like doing overdubs, but even back then it seems there should have been a way to double-track it without him having to play the rhythm parts twice. Like maybe bouncing the original track and putting a very subtle delay on it. it wouldn't be the same, but it would definitely help fill out the space.

    Awesome work! Your volume swell/delay work in "I Remember" is beautifully done. I remember when I first heard "Cathedral" in 1982 I was stunned but remembered Alex Lifeson also using a similar technique in La Villa Strangiato. I stumbled unto the technique when I got my first Boss analog delay in 1983. I love that technique, it turns heads!

      @KeeperOfPoops 6 років тому +6

      i see what you mean, White Lion's Vito Bratta outclasses Edward Van Halen in every way shape and form as he takes tapping to the whole new level but i still like both guitarists
      though personally Vito is my favorite, his solo in Wait is fun but challenging none the less!

      I had the same thought. A lot of the solos sound more like Vito rather than Eddie ,but he kills it nonetheless.

    You are fucking good man but I'll say you emulate Eddie's technic but not phrasing wise and scale speaking. I mean the sound and skills are there but it dosent feel like Eddie's solos sound.

    • @rayerscarpensael2300
      @rayerscarpensael2300 6 років тому +5

      Yeah as if there is one van halen,, all Eddie are different on every album. As if the EVH of VH1 sounds anything close like the EVH of today. He just takes technical tricks of EVH and weaves them together to fit the songs. EVH of today would probably go into some non directionnal spontaneous tapping, then run up the neck pizzicato style and then finsih in whammy bar on every song. This guy at least thought of something.

      It's pretty damn hard to exactly emulate Eddie's sound just because of the way he has his guitars and soundboards set up. If you get close enough as a cover artist you're pretty good
