And no the other guys in Van Halen didn't write shit, Roth wrote the words big deal. What memorable songs did Rhodes write anyway? Van Halen would never exist with Randy Rhodes. It would just be one long solo for the whole 40 minute album.wake up fanboy.

I listened to your video on Yngwie Malmsteen and now Eddie Van Halen, and both would have intimidated the bands you depicted them with. I can almost envision the various band members standing there in awe and asking "What in the hell?" cause Malmsteen and Van Halen would overshadow them all cause both Malmsteen and Van Halen would outclass bands like ZZ Top, AC/DC and Aha.

Which ``first one`` do you mean? From 0:00 to 0:09 it`s Cathedral from Van Halen album Diver Down 1982, and it sounds like EVH, nothing to do with Vai -Satch. The second ``first one``, from 0:10 to 1:08, is just like the author of the video said `` what if EVH played guitar in ZZ Top`s La Grange``. Again, pure EVH style. Maybe the problem is, that Vai-Satch sound like EVH sometimes.
That's the first thing I thought. His guitar setup sounds a lot cleaner like Satch, he just doesn't have that "brownsound" perfected to make it sound quite like Eddy.

HoshiHearts RetroGaming Haha, exactly that was a reverb send. It's insane that after the first album they didn't fix that. I think the best way to listen to the early records is on a stereo cranked up. When you listen on headphones it's just kinda annoying that it sounds that way. I really would love to know their reasoning besides wanting it to be a "live" feel. Early Sabbath would be a great example of one guitar player being double tracked for fullness and that worked out well. They also drenched everything in reverb quite a bit on those first 3.
Eddie didn't like doing overdubs, but even back then it seems there should have been a way to double-track it without him having to play the rhythm parts twice. Like maybe bouncing the original track and putting a very subtle delay on it. it wouldn't be the same, but it would definitely help fill out the space.
Awesome work! Your volume swell/delay work in "I Remember" is beautifully done. I remember when I first heard "Cathedral" in 1982 I was stunned but remembered Alex Lifeson also using a similar technique in La Villa Strangiato. I stumbled unto the technique when I got my first Boss analog delay in 1983. I love that technique, it turns heads!

Yeah as if there is one van halen,, all Eddie are different on every album. As if the EVH of VH1 sounds anything close like the EVH of today. He just takes technical tricks of EVH and weaves them together to fit the songs. EVH of today would probably go into some non directionnal spontaneous tapping, then run up the neck pizzicato style and then finsih in whammy bar on every song. This guy at least thought of something.
It's pretty damn hard to exactly emulate Eddie's sound just because of the way he has his guitars and soundboards set up. If you get close enough as a cover artist you're pretty good

I used the volume knob too, to make that effect like "Cathedral from EVH" or like Yngwie too.
