Diversity programs fail for a number of reasons but here's the primary one. America is based on meritocracy- in the vast majority of cases, you get what you earn. Work hard and prepare properly through training, education and discipline, learn how to communicate effectively and be a team player, be respectful and things will likely work out. Seeking out individuals based on the element of 'diversity' eliminates all that. You're not changing the standard to something better- you're reducing it to fit a narrow perspective based on perceived 'fairness', whatever that means at the moment. That's why it fails.
I do not think that's what DEI is about. If a pool of candidates are equally meritorious, in an equitable world, all of them would have the same chance of making it, whatever "it" may be.. a job, a promotion, leadership role, etc. This just does not happen in reality. Everyone unconsciously prefers to promote their own "kind". This is true for white or black or brown, men or women, straight or gay, or transgender, everyone. It just so happens that an overwhelming majority of businesses are controlled by white men in the US, and the white man bias becomes the most obvious and the most talked about. If history had played out differently and gay black women were the ones overwhelmingly in charge, we would be discussing a different type of bias today. Not that any company is perfect, especially on large scale operation... But I am so proud to work for Amazon, where such a large part of the culture is based around complete equality and respect with fact driven feedback. That being said, I came here for a different reason. One of the very important things in the hiring at Amazon is to create a highly diversified team - in terms of background and experience. This can be fantastic in a lot of ways, but in certain select areas high level externals come in with little understanding, and they don't gain that understanding so it trickles down to our level 1 associates and creates a relatively terrible time. I was hoping this had something to do with the level of hiring (background) diverse externals actually becoming a bad thing, instead of promoting (as equally background diverse, just with Amazon experience) internals, lol. If it is permeated through a business culture you cannot offer specific metric data to support it. To me then!
white female CEO talks about diversity? why the ceo of that organization is not black, latino or asian? XD
Because then people would listen to her less. White people won't listen to a POC talking about the existence of racism. They are more inclined to hear it from within their own culture set. Unfortunately many people still can't see past the fact she is a woman and are questioning her expertise - just as she said was evidence of bias.
@@Dangerwiggles "White people won't listen to a POC talking about the existence of racism".
yikes...
@@Dangerwiggles " White people won't listen to a POC talking about the existence of racism" - you are racist.
The two black men wanted to go to the bathroom together? 🤔
only one of them. duh
Sounds like you're trying to play.God and you're trying to force companies to hire or promote somebody. They don't think it's deserving of it.
Lies the world is not working racist. Please

Guess it's just been on my mind.
hahaha this is pathetic
@@econ2206 you are free to explain what you mean by that. I can see how you might see it as pathetic that I am an Amazon "boot licker" but other than that I don't see your point.
O
Excellent talk
No such thing as diversity, preserve the races.
Gaza under attake. save Palestine.
Stupid
Yes, the politicians on BOTH sides of aisle who pretend to be enemies have ALL pushed for destruction of Middle East and used "terrori*m" as fuel to further destroy civil liberties, inflate currency and murder with impunity. The sleeping masses are ok with over a million dead in Middle East at hands of our government in past 30 years while they pretend politicians have seperate agendas fighting amongst each other. Divide and conquer, this is strategy of all past Authoritarian entities throughout history and instead of it being one country it has leached into Western society in general from top to bottom in government.
@@joesz8325 stupid because I'm defending a humanity cause?
@ManiacallyYours I wouldn't say unprovoked, I'd be a bit annoyed if some random group was gifted large portion of country by external powers. then said group started an apartheid and taking over more of country...
@ManiacallyYours u should read and search more, Israel is the one who took their houses and lands and kept kiling children and ppl! Is that okey to you? This "insanity" started by Israel. U should search the history dear
I'm sorry so many negative knuckle draggers instantly dismiss EVIDENCE. Based on the content of their comments, they don't appear to be experts of any kind.
It's amazing to see exactly the thing she is talking about play out right here in the comments while people are claiming her argument is fake and not based in actual fact. "I see no proof of this existing" he says to an expert who happens to be a woman.
Really? I had to give up before even halfway through the video because I lost track of the number of claims she made completely without evidence or noting what method she used to discover said "knowledge"
@@PiggySquisherCaleb she did list statistics, though. In a world where bias isn't always a metric you can track, it becomes very hard to find the "proof". That lies in reality here, take a look through the comment section, should she begin listing all of the specific examples where people have racist or misogynistic views? If it is permeated through a business culture you cannot offer specific metric data to support it. She did offer their statistics and findings, which is a culmination of specific examples and as close to a metric that is possible. That IS evidence.
If you choose not to believe her, as an expert in her field whom is presenting this as evidence for her claims, then you also become another statistic & specific example to support her assertion. I'm not saying it's not ok to have questions... It's difficult to challenge your way of thinking.. and interrupt your biases. But there is enough specific evidence out here already where people immediately write all of it off as a fake issue and debate strongly against it. So you tell me if you think POC and women feel like they can be heard and appreciated I'm this environment?
You are being pretentious and dismissive of the opinions of others. I think that would slot you in the "non-diverse" camp, even though you pretend otherwise.
@@Dangerwiggles because being a woman means you are always right.
