Porzak golf explains the hand path and golf club take angle . He said hand path is fallow the feet line and the shaft 45 degrees out . Hand still close to body . Check it out Porzak golf
Absolutely 100% great advice. She nailed it Chad. Focus on that trail elbow stop pulling it behind . It elevates and bends only. Hands stay inside and the clubface and torso turn together on the same plane.
***TIP*** Like many others I suffered the same problem. Local pro taught me to turn my chin ever so slightly to the right on plane during my takeaway. Your chin will tell your arms where to go. Turn your head flat and your swing will be flat. Exaggerate the upward plane of your head swivel. You only need to do it an inch or so. Your club path will follow like a puppy dog. You can still keep your head “still.”
Great observations on your swing bro. Really interesting to watch. Your swing is so powerful too. Thanks for all you’re doing for the channel bro!!
Thanks, Shane! So much work to be done. I need to get to a point where I can ACTUALLY play golf, lol.
Great stuff! I’m working at the early stages of the take-away/journey-to-the-top of the backswing as well. Stay with this process as the end result will enhance your ability to ‘play’ golf vs ‘thinking about your swing’ on every shot…Best of luck as you work through this process!
That's what I'm hoping for!
Thanks brother, I know it is a struggle to change things all the time. You are giving of yourself for this channel. I have decided to settle in to something for the next year myself and give it my all in making the changes. Looking forward to finding my game again inside all the muck.
I'm torn, haha. I need to commit to this path, in order to make REAL change in my game, but..... the whole channel has always been about exploring the lesser known ways.
I am no expert on youtube or much else for that matter, but I disagree with you. I think the whole channel is about a real guy we can all relate to. I don't think we care if you try out 20 different methods a year. I think most of us can relate to your struggles with golf because we all have them and whether your chasing a method or committing to your method we just want to go along with you. Just my .02 @@GolfTestDummy
Love your channel and have been watching for years. I used Goftec and they absolutely destroyed my swing. I'm 6'5 and they showed me a video of Ernie Els and told me I needed to model him. Lesson after lesson of trying to mimic The Big Easy and they took me so far down the rabbit hole that I couldn't out. I went from 9 handicap to not being able to hit the ball. I got so frustrated that I walked away from the game for almost 2 years. When I came back I went single plane and haven't look back. What happened to the swing you created from all the other methods you used? On that video you were down the middle every time.
Love the work Bub! Keep going...golf is a lifetime pursuit, sometimes seamless & sometimes "CLUNKY" LOL
I noticed in the PVC point of the video....the good shots started to happen when your lower body got involved in turning through the swing as well. Don't get "stuck". I used to teach boxing & have always been involved in sports.....& in my humble opinion, "good athletics follows good footwork".
Love the channel.
Be blessed!
Absolutely agree. In the infancy stages, I'm sure that, with the bulk of my attention on the takeaway, the turn and impact are getting zero focus, haha. Gonna take a ton of work.
I have seen this from several UA-cam golf instruction videos (most recently today).
World #1 coach Pete Cowen put a putter grip with a flat top on a 9i. He gives his students the 9i, tells them to take a normal grip and keep the flat top pointing at their body at all times during the swing. Supposedly this gets students on plane with good ball striking.
BTW, using a putter grip on other clubs in competition is illegal. Perhaps the mental visual of this training aid is enough?
Yup - agree you have to get the first few feet of your swing to go more straight back instead of inside. Jessica has you on the right track even though it feels weird at times . I think your close to a big breakthrough. I’m a graves golf moe norman student & work with a online coach & I Totally get your “ feel versus real “ issues . Keep grinding away !
Man, grind is the correct word. I'm certainly putting in the work.
man .... im right there with you .. im having to try and mimic matt wolff to get that swing plane be more normal for me ... its gonna take work but i think it will pay off
I mean, HOW did we get here? HOW is there this big of a difference between my feel and my real? Did the government secretly use me for some sort of testing?
I practiced this very thing on the range yesterday afternoon then went out and shot a 74. I does work.
That's awesome! What specifically worked for you?
Good Sunday morning Chad
Always enjoying your golf content 🏌️👍
Thanks a bundle, my man!
the golf illusion, push out at 45 degrees as your turning
Feel and real is insane, isnt it?! Great video buddy.
It's absolutely insane. Beyond imagination.
Ha! It’s the landing gear. That’s awesome. Stay the course, you are on the right track!! Looking good bruddah! Come to Austin!
Many thanks! I've been to Austin a few times. Awesome place.
That closure rate with with your upper arm to your pec looks much better now (see last week's comment)! 🙂 Seriously though, it's great to see these eureka moments! Anybody's epiphany is always uplifting to watch in my book.
In relation to the closure rate of the upper lead arm with the chest, you'll notice that in the better swings while your body was still turning, the rate of closure of the upper lead arm to your pec was very slow and well blended with the rate of lifting of the lead arm, and then as your turn slowed down and began to prepare to reverse directon, the closure rate of the upper arm increased until the reversal of direction began to carrry the lead arm back around the body. This pattern keeps the lead arm from being thrown out towards the ball too quickly.
Previously, your lead arm was "taking a shortcut" and being trapped on your pec very early in the closure of your shoulders which didn't allow you to synchronize the motion of your lead arm with the flow of your backswing turn and the reversal of direction of motion in the transition which is necessary to stay on plane. Those last several swings looked WAY better.
Then a quiet transition as the arms drop and then the neck and head are released to turn with the body through the impact zone. The release of the neck in the late transition is an integral part of turning through with the club on plane because the arms are following the body at that point. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
Baby steps in the right direction. I'm not big on training aids, for one because they can't be used on course, but mainly because, I want to change things with my own mind, without assistance from a "cheat". But sometimes, you just need something to force you into the right spot. This particular device has one job; To make sure that, no matter what else is going on, you HAD to be on plane. If not, you hit the stick. Now, it doesn't necessarily mean you took the club away with the correct sequence or parts, but one thing is certain.... I COULDN'T take the club away too far inside and behind me. That kind of certainty is frustrating as hell at first, but also very helpful. It's a tough love kind of device.
@@GolfTestDummy BTW, if you want somewhere to go from there with the lead arm motion that you are starting to learn you can learn from the swing of Rahm. Your are still flattening your wrists quite a bit in the takeaway but you have learned to counterbalance that with lead arm closure rate adjustment and lifting.
The reason that you experience the lead arm motion as turning under is because of this flat wrist movement since you need the lead arm to move more vertical and closed (turned under) in order to counterbalance wrists opening (overly flat to the plane is functionally open to it) so these are balancing motions. This however means that you drop the club in a bit steep compared to he backswing (still fine though) and in your case have to stall your hips a bit (still fine as well but neither is optimal).
Rahm does this flat wrist and turned under arm motion as well, however he takes the turned under lead arm further away from his body and more in front of him (and of course, also the famous bowed wrist). This gives him more room to get the club functionally behind his turn and so he can aggressively fire his hips through the ball for awesome power.
This combination makes perfect sense, flattening the wrists well beyond parallel to the plane line is putting the club shaft behind your turn and pushing it out away from you in front is putting it front of your turn and together they put the club right behind his turn and he can just drive through impact. Additionally the bowed wrists put the club even a little further behind his turn because he likes to drive the club through impact.
So you are letting the club fall in front of you and turning in concert with its motion whereas Rahm is in a position to pull hard with his lead hip and then drive the shaft through impact with his trail arm. If you are going to keep the flat wrist movement, these might be helpful thoughts to take you further in swing evolution and power.
This is where we get into looping of the shaft. Rahm is looping the shaft on a low flat plane but still taking advantage of the power (leverage advantage) of looping.
Someone like Champ has much steeper wrist action in the backswing and does not need to push the club so far away and in front of him or turn the club under and lift as much as Rahm. Obviously both methods work really well but steeper has a bit of a gravity advantage. I think if you read this carefully and understand it, it will help you. Cheers.
It’s painful to watch this! 😢 I appreciate you are going through this for your subscribers!
My take away from this (I realize the pun here 😮) is that with all the technology and knowledge of the golf swing currently available, we are still trying to teach people a motion in a way which is counterintuitive! Of course it is going to be difficult but it doesn’t have to be. I personally have been on this quest for many years and have realized that a swing change isn’t about tweaking a swing plain or wrist position. Your brain will always override your conscious intent with a subconscious one unless you give it completely new directions and intent. I’ve recently learned impact is the only important thing to get right and if you start at impact and wind up with the intent of getting back to impact, your brain figures out the rest.
JChowngolf does this with great success!
Cheers Chad
Thanks for your channel!
Yep, I agree. I've been saying this for a few years now, but physical comes as a result of a mental change. Change the brain, change the swing. I have to create a whole new feel and brain pattern to get the club to move differently.
I also take lessons at golfTec most weeks my coach struggles to find small amounts improvement to make me feel like I’m moving forward. One other thing to keep in mind trying to swing the club on back and through on plane can make you insane. I think that’s why Leadbetter came up with his “A” swing method. Moe Normand actually was only on plane in the first 2’ of his swine and the last 2’ coming into impact. He was under the plane for most of his swing.
Yeah, I need to research the A swing more. I know very little.
also try dj trajan's swing crazy
ua-cam.com/video/XhNv9VGYg3I/v-deo.htmlsi=UPPrLu55jMNi4clt Hands dont move for the take away, club on the toe line ! and the flying right elbow !like Couples and some others
Hey Chad,
I’ve been following/watching your channel for over 4 years now.. isn’t this game just so damn enjoyable, lol? Many golfers would love to have your game… so keep at it 🙂
My observation from this last Golf-tech lesson is you seem too tense. Your wrists seem locked and arms tight. Your takeaway looks rigid and in my opinion is the source of your inconsistency.
Those last three swings with the PVC station seemed much more relaxed. Your wrist hinge was more of… a hinge. I am no teacher but like many of us, have an obsession with this game. So my 2 cents is you focus on a reasonable grip pressure but loose arms and wrists to feel the weight of the club. One last thing that seems to be working for me better than ever, is more of a body swing and passive arms. My takeaway for instance I try to have a feeling of loose wrist hinge and the weight of the club adds pressure to my fingers. Hard to describe, but those 3 swings you did looked really good and relaxed. Cheers!
Yeah, it makes sense. As the club speeds up, it requires more force to keep it in your hands, so your grip pressure naturally increases. And you're right about the rigidity. I think it's a product of being really alien territory, and it's not good, that's for sure. I'm hoping it improves over time, but we shall see.
exactly… the grip and body just naturally adjusts to the forces that are applied…. we can’t use brute force anymore, lol
I know how u feel iam way to flat and inside iam pretty fit and got enough power but I can't hit it out of my shadow ! been struggling with the takeaway for the past 15 years and trying a new swing about every 3 shots! golf is so much fun they say 🙄
It's a very tough road, to make a big change, if we choose to do so. A big part that needs to be in place, is the belief that after paddling across that ocean, a greener land is waiting, and the trip with be worth it.
You always seems to be working on the same things as the rest of us LOL. I'm trying fix this same issue by pushing down with the pad of the left hand (the part near the pinky finger) during the the takeaway. Keep the shoulder turn swing plane you talked about during the lesson and add the push down part. Your hand path would be just over the balls of your feet. With the natural turn during the swing that doesn't actually happen but it gets you more outside. which really is just less flat. This is something I found on Porzak Golf. It seems to help my path a good bit it just feels really awkward
That's a really good thought, and I have seen something similar before, so I know it has merit. For me, I have to think lift, and almost no turn back. I can't do it with any speed at this point, so I'm just going slow and deliberate.
I look forward to your videos. Hang in there. I think the changes you’re trying to make will pay big dividends down the road.
Thats my hope. Time will tell. 🤞
Ah man, the "feel is not reality" is so true with me.
With some of us..... it's absolutely another planet, haha.
You are me,life is hard, Pete Cowen rinse towel drill light bulb moment for back swing! 😂
I'll look that up!
You gotta see this! (link title following in quotes) "【格好いいスイング】キャメロンチャンプ(CameronChamp)ゴルフスイング集" (the thumbnail is a split frame of Champ and the moment of interest is at 0:14). Unbelievable flexibility! So the next time that someone tells you to swing like Champ, show them this stretch. Unless you can do this but I would dislocate my spine 🙂Cheers.
Inside and out path is good why change it.. That's my path and I play to a 2 hdcp check out Lee Comeux I hope I didn't screw his name up. Lots of greats swung inside out. Faster hands and looser wrist = speed and faster clubhead. Don't fight your natural swing learn how to make it work for you. I've tried most swings on UA-cam like you I always end up going in to out. 😂 But it sure is fun trying out differant path and feels has made me who I am today.. Good Luck I always enjoy your videos. 👍
Many thanks, David! Yeah, I'm not necessarily trying to fight all my natural instincts, but there a few issues I have that lead to big inconsistencies and too much effort for too little return.
I think it’s important to us when training a new movement pattern to not be so focused on quality of contact. Focus on the movement above all else. The contact will come over time.
100% agree. Gotta get the movements down first. Most of my frustrations, which are to be expected, are in trying to make the new movements reconcile with a logical movement of the club through the impact zone. Basically, when I make the correct takeaway, my brain can see or feel no way to get back to the ball on a path that feels like it's correct. So, I need the feedback to make the new connections in my brain.
Your twisting your hand open in the first part of the backswing that's why it so far inside.
It's a hard habit to break. It's because that is how I understand how to make contact.
Looks like you are 4 or 5 lessons in....do you think you are getting anywhere?
Only thing im a bit troubled by is why you chose these lessons....there are many methods out there...and considering you are finding this so hard...what is it that keeps you with this onel....i feel your pain..the beginning of this year i was lost....id had so many lessons over the years and never really got better..
The best id ever swung was Stack n Tilt...but body restrictions meant i couldn't swing like this....then i played a pro am with a pro i new who was a rightsided golf coach....i told him every shot i hit was a different thought.....he said to me....and this was the lightbulb moment for me....." Ive done the same thing with every swing for 18 year...he said i set up like this ...i swing it to here and i hit it like that....he said if it goes wrong he just repeats the process....but doesn't look for a new swing....
6 months later maybe 8 lessons....im swinging it better than i have for 15 years....i know i don't get it right on every swing....but i dont deviate from my plan....its taken all the doubt out of it....
Im not saying rightsided is for everyone....but i think a swing method with boundaries is good....
All the best frim the Uk...i hope you find your Valhalla
Thanks a bunch, Robin, and it's a great question. I've spent years trying all these unconventional methods, in an effort to compare them to conventional, modern golf. The one piece I was missing, was the review of conventional, modern golf to compare it to! Haha. So, here I am.
Chad, reprogramming muscle movement, as I’ve said many times before, is a long and arduous process. You have to go really really slow and do it as perfectly as possible. Use a mirror or video, as you’re doing, and slow the video down as you review it. It’s going to take 1,000s of really slow movements to ingrain it into your brain. Our brains are very stubborn and don’t want to change the familiar but it will if we teach it. It just takes a lot of time doing it correctly. Keep at it and you’ll see progress. Cheers.
You got that right, and I have a long road ahead. It's like trying to relearn how to eat.
I came, I saw, I conquered, but I left broken hearted . .
Cant belive its taken her so long to realise the problem was your takeaway !!!!!
You are taking the club back with just your arms. You are not turning your shoulders . An arms only take away is almost impossible to get on plane. Plus it causes sequence issues.
It's literally the only way I was able to get the club to be on plane in the takeaway. When I turned my shoulders, like I felt in the lesson, my hips went equally back with it, and boom. PVC hit.
Shoot me down in flames if you want. This is all too tight, tense and stiff. There is no fluidity in this swing. Your own analysis is spot on and you are stuck in a mixture of single plane stack and tilt even in the follow through. I just watched Golf mates on UA-cam and there is a great new video with Liam learning to relax tension in his grip and fore arms and is mashing the ball. This video is Gold.
Here is the video link - ua-cam.com/video/EcbZsFltiIA/v-deo.html
Oh no, I'd never shoot anybody down in flames. I'll check that out. I think, and I could be wrong, but maybe it'll will become fluid after I get it ingrained in my system.
Man I'm going to say this. Over the five years I've watched your videos. Your swing looks the same to me. In one video you were hitting 7 iron 170+ yards. Why would you need to hit it any further? I think you should be more concerned with accuracy and not club speed. But that's just me.
Oh, absolutely. Accuracy, but even more than that, consistently predictable shots, are my goal. Distance will always be a golfers concern, generally speaking, but for me, this is about eliminating the litany of compensations I make in my swing. The speed I lose as a result of being inefficient, and fixing it, is more about taking my effort levels down, because I hurt all over so often.
I have been thinking of the throw, but a throw with different intentions. Like bowling versus Frisbee versus baseball, etc.
@@GolfTestDummypaul wilson and his effortless golf swing is your next experience then id say!
I like Paul's videos and concept.
Add a 45 at top with short piece of pipe then wrap shaft in painters paint so not to scratch club and let club lay on pipe from bottom to top soyour not worried and hitting fixture from inside on down swing
Oh man this is painfull to watch, you'll never find your own natural swing doing all these swing plane drills and other nonsense , just get out and hit balls without thinking about it just let it go without a care in the world , I guarantee you'll start striking it pure again . Good luck
You know, that's pretty good advice, but trying to keep fresh and new content coming, it's a difficult task.
I get it brother just don't like seeing you struggle when there are much easier and more natural ways to go about it , but also realise you have a channel to commit to ( which I love by the way )
Thanks a bunch, Paul. Kind words like that keep me going, even when I want to just throw in the towel. Much appreciated.
