this isn’t related to this video but i would deeply appreciate it if you responded Dr. Dray. In an older video, the AM skin routine for oily skin, you used CeraVe’s foaming cleanser, i recently bought the Equate Beauty facial foaming cleanser and it has almost the same ingredients and it’s breaking me out. I wanna know if it’s actually the same as the CeraVe one or if i should switch to CeraVe. Again i would deeply appreciate your response. thank you

Very informative video as usual! I wonder if you could talk more about antioxidants. I know in past videos you have talked about antioxidants formulated within sunscreen and are found to be ineffective. However, what about stand alone topical antioxidants products other than vitamin C. Are they effective or photostable to be use before applying sunscreen? It would also be helpful if you could touch on antioxidants ingredients as well. Thank you!
T3chinzzz: There are at 7+ videos on Retin-A, Retinol, and Retinaldehyde. To easily find them, either check out the Retin A Q&As Playlist or use the UA-cam search bar. @Lori Abercrombie that's cool, but you should probably either learn to understand the medical literature yourself, or get recommendations about prescription products from those trained in medicine. Like dermatologists.
Thank you Dr. Dray! As this was posted 4 years ago, would you say that the research on Bakuchiol has improved since then? Interested to see what your “updated” thoughts may be, if any.
Indigo Child: Long term and consistent use of sunscreen; she applies and reapplies it every day. As well as long term use of a retinoid; she applies tretinoin 0.1% every night. Per Dr Dray, the only evidence-based anti-aging products/ingredients are sunscreen and tretinoin.

I use fabior foam for my acne/anti aging. Is that a good choice? The acne got worse at first, but it is now looking much better and the irritation is almost nonexistent. Love love love your videos!
i have to stop tretinoin, much to my unhappines, because it is making my eyes extremely dry, to the point of being unable to wear contacts anymore. i just started bakuchiol so i hope it will work quite as well
Dr. Dray I am loving this video. I feel so lucky to have found your channel. You graciously provide us with your knowledge and opinions that are priceless in my opinion. Thank you so much!
Just saw this video, and wow. I’ve been using a 1% bakuchiol + squalane oil on nights I don’t use Differin. It really helps with inflammation and is moisturizing. Before I began Differin, it did help calm down my acne a little. I find using both the most effective.
I was wondering what you might think about my personal rationale for using bakuchiol. Retinol was never actually very irritating for me. But the problem is I live in a very sunny area of California, and love to be outside very often. Even with every 2 hours application of high SPF sunscreen applied liberally, I can still come home with a redness and irritated feeling on the skin which isn't a sunburn but obviously some kind of irritation. I did not have that kind of issue before using retinol, so its obviously from the photosensitivity that it creates (that I've read is because of the thinning of the outermost layer of the skin). So I'm thinking kind of irritation is not good in the long run on a consistent basis. I've read that bakuchiol not is not photosensitizing, and actually protects the skin from UV damage. So that seems to me the most practical thing to do in my situation for the long term health of my skin, the prevention of aging, as well as working with it right now, and also to help my acne which persists at age 38. (This combined with SAP vitamin C is my main tools, I am thinking).
Retinol is not photosensitizing. This is a myth. It can be irritating, which can make your skin more likely to burn under the skin. But this can also happen because you overexfoliated you skin for example with a mechanical peeling, or after waxing. However what Dr Dray always says is that if you're being consistent with skincare but are not diligent about sun protection, you might as well just not do anything. For this reason I would recommend that you use some extra form of sunprotection such as a sunspray (not as efficient but great to use throughout the day as you don't need to "spread" it) and of course a hat and sunglasses! ❤
Retinol causes permanent eye damage for many even when used away from the eyes. Google meibomian gland damage retinol, there are studies that have shown this and for me, retinol has led to extreme eye discomfort even when used extremely far from my eyes, nowhere close, the product migrates through the skin and then can cause permanent damage to your meibomian glands. Any alternatives should be pursued seriously and not discounted.
Great video! Could you do another video on bakuchiol diving deeper into the current research / studies ? I want to figure out if this ingredient is actually helpful / effective. You did mention one study that sounded really promising - has there been replication done of that study or any follow-ups? Thanks!!

Hopefully, Bakuchiol works out to be a better alternative for people who can not use RetinA or any type of Retinol as studies are showing it is a culprit for MGD. Its got to be bad when your ophthalmologist tells you to stop using Retin-A or any derivative all together.

Hey doc... In your previous videos I realized that you had tear trough but now not so much. What did you do? because I have those and puffy under eyes and I hate it so much
I started using ROC and the retinol made my skin so smooth and almost poreless looking. I stopped though because I read that retinol thins the skin and I got scared that eventually it would have an adverse effect. Maybe I read way too much into it.
I have noticed that the tretinoin gel is WAY less irritating to my face than the cream. Any opinion on that Dr Dray? Is it known to be less irritating or just my experience?
Thank you for this video! I love your no nonsense and scientific approach to all things skincare. Exactly what I was wanting on this review. I look forward to more studies in the future!
As Dr Dray mentioned, manufacturers are going to start adding bakuchiol to their product lines and you can bet they will make a lot of false/misleading claims about it to CONvince you to buy their products, and they will also charge a lot of money for it, which many have already started to do.
Hi Dr, I have a prescribed retin-A and a moisturizer containing Bakuchiol. When studies say using them together enhances their efficacy, do they mean we need to use them at the same time (like, one after the other in our night routine) or can we use retin A at night and bakuchiol during the day? I mean, I already understood we CAN do the latter. The question is: does it have the same enhanced effect?
I’m looking for something to replace my tretinoin when I get pregnant. Do you know if there is any safety data for bakuchiol in pregnancy, specifically it’s teratogenicity? Thanks, I love your videos that summarize studies of ingredients!
Please make a video on dark inner thighs,i ve tried lemon, scrubbing, bleaching creams and nothing is working! Thanks for such clear information, Dr Dray. The preliminary evidence for bakuchiol is indeed compelling. Im wondering if you can address any further concerns about this seemingly miraculous ingredient - For example, its stability in topical formulas and any contradictions it might have with commonly used chemicals in our skincare? Help me not jump on the latest bandwagon pls - am already using vitamins A, B and C + salicylic acid as actives and probably don't need to toss in one more :')
Do what I do and tell myself that tretenoin has been tried and true for many years, has the research to back it all up and this is only in its infancy.

I have bakuchiol serum and it really helped me with hyperpigmentation from acne, didn't try retinols before so I can't tell what is better?
what kind of bakuchiol serum youve used?
@@alyaasyaa3311 it's serum emulsion with 1% bakuchiol called architect from Croatian brand Skintegra. I use it twice a day
You are looking fabulous! Have a great day !!❣
Nafis Rahman thanks
Hi dearest Dr Dray, is the use of Bakuchiol (Bio Retinod von REN) safe during pregnancy? Thanks
I started using ROC and the retinol made my skin so smooth and almost poreless looking. I stopped though because I read that retinol thins the skin and I got scared that eventually it would have an adverse effect. Maybe I read way too much into it.
retinol does not thin the skin
@@DrDrayzday Thanks for letting me know, Doc! That just goes to show, not to believe everything you read. Tonight I'm going to start using it again!
There is so much false skin care info out there! 😜
@@jt8142 Yes! Now I know I could have been using it all this time
Dr Dray did a video recently where she discusses the myths that have popped up around retinol/retin a but I can't remember which one it was (grrrr).

Great informative vid. Is this in any skincare products yet?
I ❤️ your anti-aging vids.
Discdoggie There are quite a few products containing this. Ole henrikson serum and cream has been getting some good reviews
yes
As Dr Dray mentioned, manufacturers are going to start adding bakuchiol to their product lines and you can bet they will make a lot of false/misleading claims about it to CONvince you to buy their products, and they will also charge a lot of money for it, which many have already started to do.
Very expensive product! One day! I hope they can confirm its effectiveness with those who have cancer!
Could you talk about sea buckthorn oil in a video? I Atried to see if you've discussed it before but could not find anything.
I remember her speaking about it briefly as an ingredient in a product. From what I remember she approves and enjoys it got the skin.
After Bakuchiol, It's time to review the dr Sam Bunting nightly!! Pleeeeease❤🤗
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos
Jay See thanks for watching
Mmmm so maybe I should buy herbivores bakuchiol lol lol. Thank you for the in depth research yet again!!!
Kristy Kelly OMG thank you! I was stressing trying to afford the herbivore but thanks for showing me this cheap option!!!
Kristy Kelly I will check them out. Thank you.
Please review Herbivore Botanicals!!!!
Every time u said BAKUCHIOL, I can't help hearing PIKACHU in my brain. 😑 pika pika~
I’m looking for something to replace my tretinoin when I get pregnant. Do you know if there is any safety data for bakuchiol in pregnancy, specifically it’s teratogenicity? Thanks, I love your videos that summarize studies of ingredients!
Jadelightsword: Dr Dray answered the question, “is it safe for pregnant or lactating mothers?” in a comment below.
[Dr Dray]: who knows, probably not
Medik8 bakuchiol peptides
Can bakuchiol be used around the eyes?
Thankful for all the info you provide and for giving us the straight poop as to whether something is worth pursuing or not. Happy Tuesday! :-)
Happy Tuesday!
What about using in darker skin people in hot and humid conditions?
Loved this video soooo intetesting! Thank You as Always for.a.Perfect Video!! Please Enjoy the rest of Your Day!! xoxo
Happy Tuesday!
@@DrDrayzday Thank You soooo Much!! I hope Your having the Best Day Ever Always!! xoxox!
Can we get an update on this? 🙏🏽🥺
Can you do a new video on this if there has been anymore research done since this was posted?
Please make a video on dark inner thighs,i ve tried lemon, scrubbing, bleaching creams and nothing is working! Before making an appointment with a dermatologist and having to pay $60 copay i just want to know...is there a cream they can prescribe me? Is there a cure?🙁..its depressing, very stressed out over this problem.
YariGlows215: Have you watched Dr Dray’s dark spots videos and tried any of her recommendations? To easily find these videos, type “dr dray dark spots” in the UA-cam search bar.
@@jt8142 Ive seen a couple but the inner thighs are very hard to lighten cause its a bigger area.
I don't like to miss a vlog. period.
I love when you get to the point toward the end. Good stuff, Dr. Dray!

Help me not jump on the latest bandwagon pls - am already using vitamins A, B and C + salicylic acid as actives and probably don't need to toss in one more :')
this is new and w/ minimal studies so there are no objective answer to these questions
yx the weird: Fight the hard sell by manufacturers and don’t jump on this latest bandwagon! 😃
Do what I do and tell myself that tretenoin has been tried and true for many years, has the research to back it all up and this is only in its infancy.
