Hi Suzanne, it could be the camera's not focused properly. The P1000 has an enormous zoom range, and I don't recall the focusing being great when you zoom into the maximum length. Consider playing around with the cameras focusing settings and setting the AF point to the center of the screen. Setting it there will give you the best results and you shouldn't have this issue.

Its pretty damn good lookin and is probably better than my coolpix l340 but its damn expensive
Hi Ali, yeah it would be a nice upgrade over the L340. But, it's quite expensive and this cameras also huge.
