- What's the perfect heavy metal song? Judas Priest's Breaking The Law is a flawless heavy metal archetype. The track was released in 1980 on the British Steel album, securing Preist's position as one of the most influential metal bands of all time. The Hellion/Electric Eye for me 🤟🏻
From that same concert, they opened with The Hellion/Electric Eye. Rob starts singing back stage, and when he sings "I'm made of metal" is when he steps on to the stage, and the crowd goes wild.
Also - you should have done "Painkiller." :)
Oh yeah i've been listening to that full concert every day for almost 5 years now simply cant get enough of it its that good. And when he enters the stage and sings "i'm made of metal" is literally the best moment in heavy metal history🤘
Wrong. Should've done Painkiller. Painkiller is the perfect heavy metal song. Double kick, on beats, off beats, 8th notes, 16th notes, triplets, 16th triplets, whammy squeals, sweeps, tapping, pinched harmonics, string skipping, shredding solos, phrygian/locrian mode, key changes, fast tempo, wide vocal range, screeching with vibrato. Everything in the Heavy Metal recipe is in it.
That’s a hell of a track
Just Tiptons solo alone has it all. Sweeps, tapping, string skipping, pinched harmonics. @@ShredmasterScott
Thank you for writing this comment. Painkiller is the ultimate metal song.
Agree but it’s way too tough for most of us to play.. lol!
That was released way later 1990
probably "you've got another thing coming" is the perfect ost to headbanging
Yeah Priest Breaking the Law is their signature tune on British Steel but Living After Midnight is another killer track. They upped the anti with Screaming for Vengeance. A classic metal album in itself. I personally really like Defenders of the Faith. You won’t hear Rob Halford sing as fast as on Freewheel Burning. The anthemic Rock Hard Ride Free. They have awesome choruses. You gotta love “We Are Defenders of the Faith”.
Iron Maiden’s Hallowed be Thy Name is hands down the greatest metal song of all time. But it needs to be a live version.
Work of art
i mean, if you need an alternate version, iced earth has one with matt barlow on vocals that absolutely crushes.
I’m so glad I found your channel. I just started playing guitar this year. I’ve been learning by just reading tabs and following along, but you go beyond just the tabs. Love the music theory behind our work.
I’m stoked you decided to play the greatest instrument of all time! Awesome you’re enjoying the theory in my videos, 2024 is gonna get epic my brother!
Very cool song to play around with in the studio. Its fun to play with the harmonies.
I could do that all day but it’d get weird fast muhahah!
Deep Purple's Into The Fire is one of my favs.
Great vid, Glenn sits on my personal Mt Rushmore of Guitarists.
Painkiller. Painkiller is the definitive metal song.
You should do a cover of this with those added melodies you did.
I just hope Rob Halford doesn’t cancel me!
You were playing some cool stuff over that
Great video Shred. However, I disagree with short songs. A short song is great. I feel Breaking the Law just gets you going and then...stops. It could have gone for another 2 mins at least in my opinion. I love this song. I really like your interaction with the video Shred. Your explanations really give a new dimension to the music.
Thank you Billy! I could handle more of this track myself
It's one of my favorites and a killer metal track, and all of your points and examples are dead on. But since it's missing a guitar solo, it's not a perfect metal track.
I wonder why they didn’t put a solo at the end? I made up my own instead muhahaha
@@ShredmasterScott I thought your solo was both tasteful and illustrative of your point. Respect.
Judy's owns!!!
Isn’t it f to c for the second part of the verse? Also you could interpret the f g a part if the opening as f major couldn’t you?
The main riff is taken from Black Sabbath's Dirty Women,

When someone say heavy metal i immediately think of The Hellion/Electric Eye, a really an awesome song.
Simplier than Wipeout by the Surfaris
First Riff i Learned was the Intro!
One of the best beginner riffs!
Will your lessons help with bass?
Yes. He will introduce you to the two strings that have been missing from your life. Worth it.
Absolutely! A strong bass line is more important than guitar chords in my opinion
Think footage was from the US festival
Cowboys from Hell might be my choice. There are so many great songs.
Just here for all the metal snob comments lol.
Deathstars "Metal"
dem rumors tho....
Mr. Shred, that was awesome. Making the perfect song even better has to be the work of our dark lord speaking through your fingers.
1883 it is.
Night Crawler end of story.
Why this guy kinda sound like comic book guy from the simpsons😂
I would think judas priest - heavy metal ; is the best heavy metal song lol
Judas best?maybe “the sentinel”
The perfect version of this song is the 1986 version, because its at a faster speed AND theres a solo.
I guess u could say its the perfect SHRED song hahaha
I could never play live with a LOOSE whammy bar 😅.... NEVER!.... the 80s were WILD times... 😅😅... loose whammy bars... 😂... NEVER
I was like number 69!
Metallica and Megadeth are the two best metal bands! No other metal bands released the amount of epic, iconic albums they have. And the "only Megadeth'" fans who bash Metallica are weirdos! Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice For All, Peace Sells...But Who's Buying, So Far, So Good...So What!, and Rust In Peace. Those albums wipe the floor with all metal bands including Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Black Sabbath! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
Breaking the law is like one of the worst songs in british steel lmao
