I watch Somm 1 all the time and every time we get to this scene my partner makes me fast forward through it because she can’t handle Ian’s second hand embarrassment
A lot of people this and would call it "pretentious" but I LOVE this! Treating wine like an art form and interpreting it as such. And this in itself is an art!
Wow. Watching him taste wines 1 and 2, he even uses correct descriptors for the 2 different wines (knowing that they might be switched). I believe they messed up here and wanted to save face. He calls the wines exactly for what they are; american chardonnay and rhône white. Coincidence?
This video pisses me off. All those tasting notes and then the administrator gives feedback and says "this is what the wine was" without telling the audience what the actual wine was. Does he not realize that there's a film crew there filming for an audience??
It seems like: #1 is Paul Jaboulet Aine White Hermitage #2 is Beringer Chardonnay Private Reserve #3 Smith Haut Lafite Blanc #4 Schwarz Wine Company Thiele Road Grenache 2006 Barossa Valley #5 Marques de Riscal Rioja Reserva #6 2004 Barolo (not sure which producer)
I've been dying to see this whole scene for such a long time.
We are all just trying to find someone who looks at us the same way he looks at wine to see its viscosity

@@xslash10x totally understand, you would not believe how frustrating the secrecy was while filming this

BUT WHAT WERE THE WINES?? Also, I would bet my house that Ian is right about them inadvertently switching the hermitage and Chardonnay. #teamcauble
