i don't get this obsession indie creators have with VHS filters then spontaneously switching back to a monochrome or regular filter. Its just bizarre and makes no sense.
This album is just so great. It has the wit and way of putting verses together I find unique to Father John Misty. I definitely see it as being more personal and about a single person's view. And maybe it's just me, but his albums can completely stand alone. I don't hear references to earlier songs, and every song is a complete work all by itself.
finally a "making of" video where it isn't just a random song off the album in the background to some random studio footage of the artist wandering about lolll
I have to say, from a compositional and artistic standpoint I see Pure Comedy as Josh's best album, but GFC hits me so much deeper on a personal level with its general subject matter and the raw emotion put into the tunes on it.
Doubt that anybody involved will see this, but just saw Mr Tillman and the band in Warsaw last night. Grateful as fuck for the best 90 minutes of the last few years. Come again, dudes
I thought Jim Morrison was going to play and record, but it's some art project video and Jim walking around or singing a verse or pushing a button. These guys are holding Mr. Morrison back. He looks young in this vid. WOO HOO LOVE YOU JIM & the BLINDS you guys ROCK!
I am new to Father John. I watched this video because the title lacked punctuation and I thought it was about creating God's favorite customer (not realizing that "God's Favorite Customer" was the name of an album). By whom? God? I had to know. I watched the jumble of clips, marveling at the avant-garde approach to making a music video. Amused now.
Funny how I imagined releasing four albums would get you recording in a big fancy studio and the reality is just a messy house and him playing everything Also lots of cigarettes
J.J Jameson think he just wanted to bang something raw out. I'd love to see him do a fully electronic album next. Have you heard Botany's track featuring FJM called laugh track?
Does he always record like this? All his albums have such a big orchestral feel, I never would have thought it was mainly a one man project in the studio
The greatest modern day artist - great lyricisms -great musicality - great creativity - amazing sound @therealwillycorvette would love to work with you...kind regards
It is Rad!!! & sad funny & happy. A pet na med Jeff. I mean come on if thats not sad & funny well then Im missing some thing. Encompasses all things life as to be expected by the feather jam..😉🤣😭🙈🙉🙊☹😉🤘🏼🤘🏼👼
Those raw Hangout At The Gallows vocals: DAMN.
liamthemusicreviewer I hate saying such and such sounds like such and such... but I felt like listening like John Lennon all over again. Powerful
fav song on the album.
Nothing better than watching corpses swing.
THey do have an awesome effect on them...like a slapback ...reminds me a lot of Plastic Ono Band/ Imagine Era Lennon
@@NolalanD it’s also dubbed so he’s singing over another vocals take which is why it sounds so phased and thick
Wow he's pretty good at drums. Wonder if he ever played those in a band before.
Kyle O'Reilly the drummer of the Fleet foxes
Laurent Malherbe whoosh
you the joke --------------->
If that's a joke it's one of the worst jokes I've ever heard
r/whoosh
that looks like the most casual chill studio ever
I need an acoustic of please don’t die
AGREE! That's my fave on the new album. That and Just Dumb Enough to Try
Those two, plus Disappointing Diamonds. The sad love songs. So good.
ua-cam.com/video/zusZ9XUYd0o/v-deo.html&frags=pl%2Cwn ;- )
This is by far my favourite horror movie
Jonathan Rado is such a great musician and producer.
Why is this shot like a Netflix horror movie
i don't get this obsession indie creators have with VHS filters then spontaneously switching back to a monochrome or regular filter. Its just bizarre and makes no sense.
“That’s just his vibe.”
Crumbler's_Wisdom lmao
vhs only works with home video stuff like this for instance (i do like it don't get me wrong)
rado stole his moms junked camera from the basement

Exactly. It seemed like the only reason some fans dismissed gfc is because they were expecting Pure Comedy 2
Pure Comedy was about Tillman holding society at large accountable. GFC was about holding himself accountable.
thank you further jam ministry
Such an incredible album!
truly agree
What a talented dude.
finally a "making of" video where it isn't just a random song off the album in the background to some random studio footage of the artist wandering about lolll
What a masterful use of tape. No wonder why this record sounds absolutely phenomenal.
Placebo. There’s really no difference. Studio engineer background
Oh my eyebrowless love
I just noticed this.......why does he shave his eyebrows??? haha
holy shit he doesn't have eyebrows i knew something was off
Kyle Uber he has him they're just really easy to miss
I cannot unsee this now
How have I not noticed it before I read this comment..
Thank you for another beautiful album 💕
I have to say, from a compositional and artistic standpoint I see Pure Comedy as Josh's best album, but GFC hits me so much deeper on a personal level with its general subject matter and the raw emotion put into the tunes on it.
Funny girl hooked me in. What a smooth and dreamy tune with the perfect voice
Wow Jonathan Rado from Foxygen worked on this album. Really cool
Please don't die Mr Tillman, we love you
Doubt that anybody involved will see this, but just saw Mr Tillman and the band in Warsaw last night.
Grateful as fuck for the best 90 minutes of the last few years. Come again, dudes
For a moment there I thought “wow he’s a good drummer” and then I realized how dumb I was.
Just dumb enough to try, I guess
He's cultivated his own sound. Good stuff man
Evidence of how talented the man is. He might perform with a large band but Father John Misty is playing most of the parts on the album.
that key change in mr tillman made it a perfect song thanks to that guy
FJM yet again hitting me in the feels...
You’re a genius. You are my generation’s Dylan, as far as I’m concerned. ✌🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼
He's better than Dylan, the tunes are gorgeous and the lyrics intelligent and thought provoking.
@@garnetnewton-wade6254 dude you’re underrating Dylan. Go listen to him
@@garnetnewton-wade6254 is this a purposefully obtuse take for the sake of irony or is your musical blind spot really that mammoth?
Weyes blood's vocals on another level🔥🔥🔥
Is that Rado engineering and bassing? I could watch these two make records all day long.
Yup its rados studio
This. Is. Fucking. Everything.
Its nice knowing he still uses a notebook instead his phone
Had no idea he was a drummer, makes sense all his songs have a better than expected groove.
"Truth, this guys always buying" - God
Makes me feel better about recording at home.
Top 5 Album Of The Last 20 Years. Awesomeness
The record's been on repeat for 6 days now. It's fucking sensational. Thank you for aniother great album!
I miss this time
love the album! like the ones before and thank you for sharing some of the process, we want more
Beautiful
i love your music

The visuals make me real happy
Pure gold.
I really like you as a human being mr. John Misty
Josh, you are doing great. You got this, man. Time is a revelator. And I love that you are using tape. Such a better sound. I'm jealous.
The tape added to the pretentious wankery
@@Subzearo Damn that chip on your shoulder must be visible from space.
That acoustic Martin sounds so freaking good

id love to hear the full version of that stripped back 'please don't die' @ 2:44
Another classic from "the Father"
Love endures all things
What a legend
Funny how I imagined releasing four albums would get you recording in a big fancy studio and the reality is just a messy house and him playing everything
Also lots of cigarettes
J.J Jameson third album was like that. Pretty big production. Proper studios full string orchestra coming in. Etc.
Sion Marc Anthony Yeah,I know,I just figured that there would be a crescendo after a such big third album
J.J Jameson think he just wanted to bang something raw out. I'd love to see him do a fully electronic album next. Have you heard Botany's track featuring FJM called laugh track?
It's crazy how he has such a beautiful voice but still smokes cigs lol
His workflow seems a bit like Kevin Parker’s (Tame Impala), how he just plays a shit ton of instruments until something good comes out
I like this short-form making-of documentary. I mean, I'd watch two hours more, but it's better than nothing!
Does he always record like this? All his albums have such a big orchestral feel, I never would have thought it was mainly a one man project in the studio
Pure Comedy was made mostly in live takes with a band I believe
Tristan7395 pure comedy was very different, recording wise
This is more theatrical but shows how me made Pure Comedy. It was definitely much more elaborate: ua-cam.com/video/cejjqC1oyQM/v-deo.html
You don’t need a huge studio to make a good sounding album. If you have the right equipment and microphones you can do anything from home
2:59 I WANT THIS TWANGY SKRONKIN EARLY VERSION OF DISAPPOINTING DIAMONDS
Your drumming is really good maybe you should be a full time drummer at a band or something
beautiful album
shout out to springsteen's autobiography on top of the speakers @ 3:25
Gotta love Rado
Such a great album !!!
Love seeing behind the scenes of new favorite FJM record 🔥👍
Yet another perfect outpouring from Josh
Best album of the year. 🖤
I love this man
i'm mesmerised
Damn I have chills
so amazing
i Wait for you and all band in Argentina (8/29) Great New 💿 and a bonus?
i Dream that night 👂"So I'm Growing Old on Magic Mountain"✊✊✊
Loved it more than anything . Thank you so much for making this video and off course the album is fucking amazing .
Hangout At The Gallows is so fucking good
great album!!! come to Greece ❤️🇬🇷
Awesome!
man what a breath of fresh air.... in a world of tired cookie cutter tunes..this album ROCKS!!!!
More please
Thank u sir
o I love it.
Nothing makes me want to get into the studio like watching these, FJM is endless inspiration
holy Shitsu. is it really just you and that other guy? I thought for sure you'd have more peeps involved. That is so refreshing and kick-ass baby!
2:33 ...oh my god. that's absolutely beautiful.
The greatest modern day artist - great lyricisms -great musicality - great creativity - amazing sound @therealwillycorvette would love to work with you...kind regards
jonathan rado producing another great record
Does anybody know how I can get that snare sound at 3:17?? Love it so much
You rip this video and clip the snare sound.
I wish this was 12 hours long
Wow. I use that word a lot, but just... wow.
man's a leg-end.
this is pretty cool
mr tillman hits different in a pandemic
Can anyone guess what snare he’s playing at 0:45?
Mr Tillman was FJM’s crowing achievement in 2018 change my mind
dissapointing diamonds was his crowning achievement. mr tillman was amazing though
hmm, interesting. I'd though more people would like Please Don't Die or Date Night rather than that one but maybe thats just me
Hangout at the gallows>>
mmhmm i'll need to re-visit this album entirely
Yeah I'm gonna have to second that Please Don't Die vote of confidence
❤️
Anyone know what bass is being used at 2:06?
Anyone else going to see him on his tour? I'll see him in July and I'm PSYCHED.
So you cool you guys randomly caught Natalie's ghostly siren song in your studio, sometimes you just get those happy accidents.
Jonathan Rado?
Yep, credited with playing on and recording a large portion of the record.
Yeah I didn't realise he was involved either.
Sergio Batista it makes sense now.
1:53 is the core of Father John Misty
Whose bright idea was it to sharpen the knife?
Robin should have put a ring on it before he left the FF.
2:05 I get crazy on a bassline
I feel like I'm watching the makings of John Doe from Se7en.
What's the Sony mic he's using on this video for vocals? I'd like to have the same!
Looks like a vintage Sony C500, it's an old tube mic. Kind of in the C37 vibe.
