  • Escaping to the garden centre, in this case Plantworld in Milton on Stour where they have 30% off all perennials and pots this weekend, was well worth the visit this morning. Join me and Nic choosing plants and then see how I turn an investment in fourteen pots of plants turn into sixty three individual plants (including the raspberries!) A good morning well spent I think.
    If you're thinking of a trip to a garden centre this weekend do look out for good bargains. A small independent garden centre like Plantworld plant-world.co.uk/ is a great place to visit and for a small investment you may find you can end up with a lot more than you bargained for.

    I was able to split multiples from one pot last year. I was thrilled! I'll take a garden center outing and coffee with a friend any day over out for drinks!!! Who needs alcohol when you get a great high from plant shopping and being at a garden center!!! ❤

    This is great. Plant mania! Consider what I do. I work about 3 days a week in nice gardens. I have a keen eye when it comes to weeding pathways etc. best to do this after a good rain with a little dog poo bag by your side. I would guesstimate about 25% of my farm has come from other people’s gardens and I got paid in the process! Not to mention all the free stock from clearing out a garden for a re-design… there is nothing like free produce because you will always remember where it came from and the people connected with it. Rave on!!!

    I relate completely, Georgie. I love nothing more than a nursery outing, with my daughter. I always feel like. " a kiddie in a sweetie" shop. Going soon. I got gift vouchers for my birthday in February. I am just waiting for it to cool down. I live on Garden Route South Africa.

    I used to 🧡 visiting independent plant nurseries but here in Oz 🇦🇺 they are becoming less and less and one is left with Big Box Stores 😢 Hence in my early 70s I have turned to growing from seed (apparently you are never too old to learn) or mail order. A sad state of affairs 😢

    The first Lupin that you divided into ten, actually cost less than £5 as you had the discount. So 35p per lupin. That is a garden centre bargain. I'm still too tight to buy plants though 😂I have 30 lupins that I started from seed, (seeds from Wilko 70% off clearance) Seeds cost 60p. I do love a mooch around the garden centre, but my local one is £££ a fox glove will be £8.99🤯

      I love doing the maths like that - yes total bargain of a day - I'm also notoriously mean except for the occasional rave up xxx luckily I live too far from Bond St for attempted bankrupting rave ups there xxx

    • @theflowerfarmer

  • @solidstart9042
    @solidstart9042 2 місяці тому +1

    Just wondering can you split and plant straight into the ground or do they need to be potted up first? Thank you.

    • @theflowerfarmer
      @theflowerfarmer  2 місяці тому +1

      you can so long as you have nicely prepared space - just be careful in case the splittings are very small and so may be overwhelmed or lost x

      Thank you so much. I'm thrilled that I now know this info. I have a small garden with no greenhouse, so growing everything from seed isn't an option for me. I can't believe all the money I've wasted over the years by not knowing this info.@@theflowerfarmer

    I believe most people who grow raspberry for foliage grow a thornless variety? Seems like a dangerous occupation harvesting those thorny stems!

    • @theflowerfarmer
      @theflowerfarmer  2 місяці тому

      lol - I've harvested raspberry foliage before from just ordinary raspberries we grew in the old veg patch before it was turned into the bulb beds and never thought it especially thorny. raspberry foliage to me feels like sort of rough velcro, like the stems of rosa Tuscany superb - we'll see - I hadn't planned to buy any raspberries - if they're a bore to cut we'll just eat the fruit and I'll do proper research next time before investing xxx
