  • Clive Staples Lewis is most known for his many books which include the Narnia tales, his science fiction novels and those on religion. His day job was as an academic predominantly as a fellow at Oxford then later as a professor at Cambridge. My series of three videos concentrate on Oxford: the Oxford of CS Lewis. It covers his life as a student at University College, and as a fellow and tutor at Magdalen College. It introduces the public houses where he met with Tolkien and the other members of the Inklings, plus the many houses he shared with Mrs Moore: particularly The Kilns where he lived for the major part of his working life. This is not a biography of Lewis - there are surely enough of those - it is more of a scenic tale of his surrounding in the city that he loved and his haunts there.
In this, the third and final part of the series, I describe his conversion to Christianity and the move to his perfect home, The Kilns. It also covers the foundation of the Inklings with Tolkein and their meetings in the Eagle and Child pub. It explores his relationship and subsequent marriage to Joy Davidman and his important role via BBC radio during World War Two. This part also features the possible Oxford origins of the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe books and finally his professorship at Cambridge followed by his demise and interment at Holy Trinity Church on the outskirts of Oxford.
