  • Since the position of Prime Minister was established in the UK in the early 18th century Oxford University has produced most of them. In this video Rob Walters your Oxford Guide endeavours to pinpoint why this is so. He takes you through many factors that could explain this phenomenon: the antiquity of the University of Oxford, its college based structure with their tutorial schemes, the specialised courses which the University provides such as PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics), the links with public and private schools such as Eton, and of course the influence of the Oxford Union on budding politicians. Comparisons are made with Cambridge University and an animated prime minister production pump is shown in action. Here are some of the prime ministers referenced in the video: Boris Johnson, Theresa May, David Cameron, Tony Blair, Margaret Thatcher, Harold Wilson, Edward Heath, and Harold Macmillan. Cambridge scientists Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin also have a mention.
