Hi, Can you please make a video of real time experience of renewal (after 2 years ) procedure of D7 Resident Permit.
Julia, Thank you for the wonderful video. One piece of information I want to double-check. You said that a temporary resident can be away from Portugal for 8 months and even more with SEF's approval. My understanding is that to maintain the temporary residency, one must spend 183 days a year in Portugal, am I wrong, or did the rules change recently??

Hi Julia, how do you receive the residence card? Do you need to be at home to collect it or they drop it in the mailbox? Am travelling for a few weeks after my SEF appointment, wondering if that affects anything
If you aren't home, they will leave a note in your box and you will need to collect it from the post office

1. Yes,but I only received a sheet of paper at the appointment. The card came in the mail soon after.
2. The key thing is to schedule the appointment before the end of that period. As long as you have an appointment scheduled, you are allowed to stay.

As someone who’s looking to apply for the D7 in a few months - where did you find your health coverage?
I got a Multicare insurance plan through Fidelidade in Portugal before I applied for the D7 visa

Sorry if I'm being stupid but if the D7 is only 4 months, how do you show proof of accom for 6 months? Thanks
D7 visa is only intended for you to enter the country for a period of up to 4 months. In those 4 months you need to open bank account, find housing (at least 6 moths worth), get your tax number, setup appointment with immigration office (SEF) , etc.
Before the four months are up, to need to deliver all your documents to the immigration office (SEF). If everything is in order, the immigration office (SEF) will give you a temporary resident permit (TRP) good for up to 2 years.
So to recap: D7 is only to enter Portugal and good for up to 4 months; TRP is good for up to 2 years. If you can't prove accommodation for at least 6 months you will never get the TRP and must leave Portugal once the 4 months are up.
Wow! Thank you so much. I actually have a British passport which allows me to go to Portugal for 3 months at a time, do I even need the D7? Ie, if I got everything ready in that time (accom, docs etc) could I go straight to SEF for the visa app?
@@newone6410 Agreed, just a note that it is sometimes not possible to get an appointment with SEF for the temporary resident permit in 4 months but as long as you have your appointment scheduled, you'll be okay.

If I understand correctly, they are phasing this out (term of responsibility). Check with your local consulate what they are looking for

My dad is an American who has been a permanent resident of Portugal for 30 years. He married a Portuguese woman & after they had my brother (Portuguese) sadly, she passed away. He never got his citizenship because he has dyslexia with learning languages. He can get by speaking but no reading or writing. He is getting older and has a beautiful house in the Algarve. I would like to be able to go and take care of him. My husband would qualify for the D7 (as a digital nomad) but I'm hoping there is another way. I would like to get citizenship eventually. I'm a 55 year old American. Thanks if you can help!

I wasn't asked to prove it for my renewal. I think it's more something they check on through passport control data

Either one.
6 months, if it's uninterrupted e.g. Jan-July, Feb-Aug, March-Oct, May-Dec, etc.
If it's interrupted, each period has to be of at least 4 moths e.g. Feb-June and Aug-Dec

@@JuliaRochelleAbroad That's probably the visa I was thinking of. So they let you stay for 2 years if you have independent contractor status. I think Spain was going into the same thing.

Yes exactly, that was my situation when I moved to Portugal. There is no language requirement but there is a minimum stay requirement which I think is generous (up to 6 months at a time and 8 months total). You can renew the visa for 3 years

I am from Beirut lebanon and planning to make Portugal as my second home but have been waiting for the best chance and still have nothing in my hands except preparing myself technically to become digital nomad ! My question: if i managed to find good remote job at a company outside Portugal with a monthly income 2700$ per month will i managed to receive the D7 visa? If i managed to come to Portugal through this visa will i be able to apply for permanent residency and citizen ship for the long run ?
Yes, that’s way above the minimum for wage in Portugal. After 5 years of residency you can apply for permanent residency and/or citizenship
