It was such a pleasure to get to talk about this with you a bit via chat. My struggles are still to resist the urge to self-tilt and repeat movements that I miss and let the moment pass by, as well as to not be upset when someone who I *perceive* as being random/feral/whatever beats me. Like to not sit there and try to devalue what happened because I got caught like a deer in the headlights and didn't adapt. Plus I should probably show myself more grace when I lose a match-up I've been struggling to with for a while.
I'm really glad we had a chance to dive into this together! It's such a tough battle to break that cycle of self-tilt, but recognizing it is already a huge step forward. It’s totally understandable to feel frustrated when things don’t go as planned, especially against players who feel unpredictable. But remember, that unpredictability is their strength, and it’s a skill to adapt on the fly. Giving yourself grace is key-you’re not losing, you’re learning every time. Each match, even the tough ones, is progress. You're building that resilience and growing stronger with each one. Keep pushing! 💪
Shout out to both of you for this conversation, made for a great video!
@@loops9508 Thanks loops! I'm glad highlighting the conversation from the live stream was effective. I took a creative risk there and was like, how do I make it super clear I"m talking to a chatter here and reading their words? And figured I'l blow up their text while I was reading it to keep people engaged.
@@TrickyEileen Off the top of my head but if you do this again you could re-type what the chatter said into a text to speech tool, and then include that in the edit so even people just listening to the video are able to understand.
Thank you loops. Happy to hear it was a good time
I’m so happy to see that other people are seeing fighting games as a tool that can be used to help grow as a person!
I really loved this. I struggle with the mental/emotional side as a player, especially with beating myself up for not understanding why something failed, or succumbing to feeling like I'm being bullied in matches and can't do *anything* to escape pressure, even though I "know" what to do to beat scrubby stuff (like a player just doing a dumb flowchart combo over and over.) That feeling is so crushing and makes the self critique and desire for anger rise up incredibly quickly. "Oh of course they're always plus and I'm not. Oh of course they can just reversal super and not care. Oh of course that mixup works for them, but not for me. AAARRGHHHH." I get this sense that the emotion the opponent is thriving on is "I am deliberately trolling you," and that cracks me instantaneously.
I often lose the perspective that the match needs to be about *what I can do to them* rather than stopping what I fear they are going to do to me (expose me as free/a fraud).
I've done a lot of work with myself outside of fighting games about anger. And frankly the biggest thing for me was just understanding that anger can feel SO GOOD in the moment, but none of the bad stuff that happens as collateral damage as a result of anger is worth it. None of it. It's such a waste of energy and time and it always makes you feel so much worse than the tiny momentary catharsis of being angry.
I totally hear you. It’s such a tough battle when your mind is pulling you in every direction, especially in the heat of a match. That feeling of being overwhelmed and like you're being trolled can really take a toll emotionally, even when you know what to do. But you hit the nail on the head-it’s all about shifting focus from what they’re doing to what you can do to them. That's such a powerful realization.
The emotional side of fighting games is so underrated, and it’s incredible that you’ve already done so much work on managing anger outside of gaming. That’s no easy feat! You're absolutely right-anger might feel satisfying in the moment, but the aftermath always leaves us drained and distracted. The real power comes from keeping that energy in check and staying focused. You're definitely on the right path, and the fact that you're this self-aware is already a huge step. Keep at it-you're not alone in this fight, and you'll only get stronger from here! 💪

I DRAGON PUNCHED! WHERE’S MY DP?? - Everyone
The worst. Game stole your dp
Very difficult aspect of fighting games to get more comfortable with! When I get mad at myself I try to remember to reset my breathing and “slow” down.
Absolutely! Slowing down and resetting your breathing can be a game-changer in those high-pressure moments. It's all about regaining that mental clarity and staying composed. Fighting games challenge you in so many ways, and mastering that emotional side is just as important as the technical skills. Keep at it!
I really get angry at myself over my mistakes. This video was great. Liked and subbed keep up the good work. Thank you ❤
Something i really appreciate about these videos; this is offline help. This is something I can take with me, not be thinking of notations, not think about even my character, just something to mull over. Ive been in rank hell recently, unironically i watched this video at work, came home yesterday and was on a winning streak again. Realized i was overextending and i just needed to breathe; it's exceptional advice
Thank you. Yes that is one of the biggest things I want people to take with them from my videos. So glad you get it
That's a very powerful quote in the beginning. Subscribed.
Thank you so much! I’m really glad that quote resonated with you. 🙏 Welcome to the community, and I’m excited to have you along for the journey! More powerful insights and content are on the way. 💪
This is a really cool video
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😊 There's a lot more to come, so stay tuned for more deep dives and tips! 🎮💪
I like how your videos embrace the subjective feel of FG's as well as the other aspects.
Such good advice! This is something I need to work on a lot.
Having to wait 30 seconds sounds so much more manageable though. I play smash, games last like 4min on average 😓 lol
You can take a stock then
@@TrickyEileen totally true I was mostly joking
appreciate your take on the FGCs metagame!
Your welcome! I think we need more talking about this kind of stuff
Dropping gems with this one, psych eval of fighting games(ers) is long overdue, the macrocosm that is reading an opponent is basically 4d chess meets boxing tempo, but a win after gives a feeling of "beating the odds" almost like gambling.
Couldn’t have said it better! 🎯 The psychological layers of fighting games are so deep-it’s like 4D chess, boxing, and yes, even a bit of gambling all rolled into one. Reading an opponent and adapting to their tempo is such an intense mental challenge, and that 'beating the odds' feeling after a win is one of the best rushes! 🔥 I’m glad this resonated with you, and there’s definitely more to explore on this topic. Stay tuned for more gems!
I've been set back by dealing with my weed addiction, I was always so chill in a ranked match, low hp, time running out I would play my best. Now I gotta do it without blazing up all day haha
Tricky! I didn't expect this topic to be so insightful. People don't know how lucky they are that you're giving out this information for free. You should lock this info behind a pay wall, topic: The dark psychology of fighting games. Jk, but seriously this was awesome 👌
Thank you so much! 😄 Haha, I love that-“The Dark Psychology of Fighting Games” has a nice ring to it! 💡 But honestly, I’m all about helping others level up, and sharing what I've learned freely feels right. I’m glad you found it insightful and appreciate the support! 🙏 Keep an eye out-there’s definitely more of this kind of content coming! 🎮🧠
@TrickyEileen when Will you be filming the next one? I want to be in chat when it's happening!
Thanks for the enthusiasm! I’m planning to film the next one soon-likely within the next week. I’ll be sure to announce the exact date and time so you can be there in the chat! Make sure notifications are on so you don’t miss it. Can’t wait to have you there for the next deep dive! 🙌
Tricky I love your content. That's all, just think it's great, thanks for making it.
And thank you for the words of affirmation
I was playing ranked yesterday, and whiffing a move to immediately try it again hit way closer to home than I was comfortable with lol
I already knew I was crashing out but holy crap. One match early in the ranked run derailed my emotional state for an entire afternoon. I desperately wish I could manage it consistently. Some days I'm way better at it than others.
Yeah that’s when I stop playing for the day
Im new to the fighting genre and its a whole new world to me, so any advise such as this vid would be appreciated 👍
Welcome to the fighting game world! 🎮 It can definitely feel overwhelming at first, but you're already on the right track by diving into resources like this. My biggest advice: be patient with yourself and focus on learning one thing at a time. It’s a marathon, not a sprint! I’ll be dropping more videos with tips, so stay tuned, and feel free to ask questions if anything comes up. You've got this! 👍
@@TrickyEileen ty very much
My advice to newer players is that the loss doesn't matter, what you do after the loss matters. If you just hit rematch and do the same mistakes you will get more tilted.
Go to training mode after a loss and practice doing attacks or combos you missed will help calm you down and commit moves and situations to memory.
I guess I should add. It's really frustrating at times when you're on a really bad losing streak. You dont feel improvement infact you think you're worse so you question what you're doing and you tilt at very little interactions. I'm trying to learn or to it accept it happening so I can move on much faster. It's hard but its worth fr
When you are tilted you ARE playing worse. Optimal thing is to either find a way to calm down while playing or break
Gold as always
I try and glad you like
Any advice for yoshi players ?
Don’t spin as often
That’s the trick, I’m always angry
I dont know how to regulate my anger when playing fighting games. Its getting worse, my casual games with online friends now feel like life or death sotuations and im crashing out like almost every single day.
I dont really have anything else in my life, this is all i got. Stopping isnt an option but everything just feels so hopeless i feel stuck.
I feel like no matter how much i practice it wont change anything because the second i make a mistake i start tilting.
Can you play a different game while you are close to crashing out? I mean it sounds like you have a good sense what the issue might be here too

Other than solid gameplay, I won't discuss the other tactics I use in Tekken in an attempt to tilt my opponents. It's what I strive for in my matches and it gives me an edge. I want to make sure my matches are uncomfortably tough and they dread seeing my name when we match up.
Haha, that’s a legit strategy! 😈 Mental warfare is real in Tekken and can totally give you an edge. Tilting opponents or getting in their heads is part of the game, and if it works, more power to you! Keep making your matches tough for them-it’s all part of the competition! 👊💥
@@TrickyEileen Thanks Eileen! You'd probably block me. Hehe. Even my character alone tilts people. Victor.
@@chucklos391 my block list is full. you're safe
@@TrickyEileen haha. I only block bad ethernet connections or some wifi. Maybe 10 accounts at most I believe. I did block a Zafina player out of spite. Wanted a rematch after I finally beat them and they wouldn’t rematch. I always rematched them despite my losing streak to them.
