Call this a tribute to all the wonderful people who composed the
soundtrack to Mega Man X.
The first game still holds up as one of the most important gaming experiences of my life.
I tried to convey every feeling I got as a child while playing this stage.
You could say it's a dream of mine to recreate what I heard in my head in 1994 with real instruments.
Everything except the drums has been recorded completely and unaltered by my hands on guitar, bass and keyboard/synths, another goal that is dear to my heart and a very important factor in my releases. On top of that I respect the source material so much, I can't help but drown into somewhat unhealthy perfectionism. I guess that's why you all have to wait endlessly.... sorry guys!!
Very special thanks to:
Setsuo Yamamoto, Makoto Tomozawa, Yuki Iwai, Yuko Takehara and Toshihiko Horiyama
Anyways have fun....
...to be continued ;)
Gear I used:
Cubase Pro 10.5
Apollo Twin USB
Neural DSP Archetype Nolly
GOC Guitars Materia 8 (equipped with Fishman Fluence Abasi Pickups)
Cort A5 Bass
Roland A-800 Keyboard
Ernie Ball Strings
D'addario Strings
Arturia V Collection 8:
DX7 V (Bass)
Mini V3 (Strings)
Jup-8 (Synth)
Sonicprojects OP-X Pro-II (Synth)
Kontakt:
Session Horns (Brass)
GGD Metal (Drums)
This is more than a mere cover, it's a journey.
Hey there Gencoil, I LOVE your work!
Look who's talking, Gencoil.
On that note, I've got another musician to binge too! Thanks in advance!
I know this is a great cover by the fact that, when he switches tracks, I’m confused at first like “What is this?” Then he breaks into the actual melody from the track as written in the game and I’m like, “Oh! That’s genius! It fits perfectly!”
Up
Not really, Sigma Stage 3 was one big tower.
Zero be like: “YO VILE, GUESS WHO GOT A BOMB FOR A HEART.”
“Wait wha-OH MY GOD!!”
Zero: remember x
Sucided is badass
*Blow up himself*
The nostalgia - Mega Man X is seriously one of the best games ever made.
Yeah but what about....SPICE!!
SPICE
SPICE
SPICE
With the 80's style of rock and the 90's intensity, both fused with a fictional vision of a future full of robotic life that coexisted with humans, Mega Man X had some unique soundtracks and visuals that still stand the test of time.
You managed to capture the soul of this era in gaming in ways that make my heart skip a beat
fictional?
@@BloominOnion1 we're still a ways off from having repliods
@Supersonicspyro probably for the best lol
That feeling you had when you finally beat all the Mavericks....and then get into the Sigma Stage...makes you feel amazing...you are one step closer to your goal,X is one step closer to save the world
and then comes that ugly bitch robo spider from the ceiling :D
I love the initial canyon / mountains vibe of that stage. you can practically hear the wind blowing.
Vile intro right into the battle theme is PERFECTION
I consider Sigma Stage 1 in X1 to be the Magnum Opus of ALL Sigma Stages in the entire X series, musically speaking (and in general)
I consider Metalltool to be the Magnum Opus of music creators.
Given that my Birthday was Christmas Eve, I consider this to be both a Birthday AND a Christmas gift!
You absolutely nailed the very emotional and climactic feeling that this entire stage radiates, and you did so with absolute love and dedication. The hype of the last stages, the revenge on Vile for his beatdown on X at the beginning of the game, the emotional loss of Zero (for the first time), the trek through to the Bosspider, the start of the boss rush fights, all showing that NOTHING will stop us from taking this fight to Sigma, and ending this ONCE AND FOR ALL (for the first time).
Not to mention, revenge on Zero for blowing off my mech ride armor's arm! You know how expensive that was to repair?
Man you are so right here. This song has so much energy and epicness inside.
@@Tonician0 also I like the artwork :) nice cover Metalltool keep up the good work!
Just passing by two years later, i did get that game too during Christmas, i couldn't count the number of time i did finish it just for the sake of both gameplay and music.
Man you packed a lotta shit into this. Awesome arrangement. I reaaaally like what you did with Zero's theme in this one in particular - I had a very similar idea back in the day but didn't have the skills to do it. Great job, and happy new year :>
Yeah, the next one's gonna be shorter though 😅! Thanks man.
i think ur both amazing personally. keep it up guys! :)
So, can we expect a SMCK and Metalltool collab in near future? plz 'u'
@@sr.metang8193 YESYESYESYESYESYESYES
Still waiting for a colab...
Remember how you felt when you finally got to this stage. I don't think it was easy for any of us, them we all know who we lost later...
Just noticed Zero's sacrifice in the pic. Great music, great visual. You covered it all.
Straight into my "Instrumetal" playlist.
A fitting track for the beginning of X's story and the end of Zero's
Merry Christmas from Metaltool to all with such a great remix, legendary track remastered by the Master!
That transition to Zero's death theme was incredible
Sacrifice and then look at MegaMan zero x did the same in z3
I played this game so damn much as a kid. This stage was the one where it went from being just a fun badass game to personal. The soundtrack and the loss of Zero set me off big time.
My God, what a beautiful melody, you even made me cry with emotion, yay!
NGL I almost cried when I saw Zero's death for the first time. I remember that it happened at my aunt's house. Her son had a SNES and I remember when I saw the MMX cartridge already inserted in the console. I wanted to enjoy this moment because my dad was already thinking about going back to our house,, so I tried my best to finish the game before we left. I had never gotten this far playing alone. This day was a special day because I was going out with my dad to buy my first GBA game (Pokémon Leaf Green). This brings back so many good memories that I spent with my father. This remix just took me back to that time when everything was simpler and fun. Thanks for all those remixes. I really appreciate it. Thanks for everything Bruno V!
You're welcome! The first X installment came off as really serious, compared to the campy classic games.
That feeling when Zero sacrifices himself and then you carry that chip on your shoulder as the player and have to face the big evil alone. Loved that as a kid.
Bro I was young at a daycare center and we were all huddled around a snes. I saw a purple guy blow up a red elephant metal dude in a container, elephant man started bleeding out the mouth, and then a blue man stepped into picture. This is how I saw it as a kid because I was so young but I now know it was this game and scene. First time I saw and learned about death and killing.
I didn't get a Christmas present this year. Not that I mind too much now, because we all got something better -- this blessing of a track and piece of art.
Words can't describe how much soul and hard work I can sense from hearing this. It takes a real effort to rail off the same old habits, defaults, templates one could say, because this is nothing like any other track I've seen here before (it dismisses that usual "first loop cover, solo percussion, second loop completely remixed" Metalltool standard. I'm not complaining, I've liked every remix so far, either way or another. But this is so much great I think it has been your most ambicious track so far and I am in awe for that.
"What can Mega Man X do that Mega Man Classic can't?"
Answer: "Hurt you."
Since a young lad, this stage was my favorite of all the X games and for whatever reason when I searched for quality remixes to this legendary track it came back very sparse. I haven't given up over the years and I gotta say I finally found something that transcends the original and it gives it the proper respect it deserves. Always a joy listening to your tracks and how they break the term remix!
I have no words to describe how good the remix turned out for you. I couldn't stop smiling as I listened to it. Megaman X was the Megaman game I played in my life, listening to Sigma stage 1 again brought me so many memories, memories of a simpler (and happier) life. You perfectly captured the epicity of this stage with this stage, keep up the good work.
I have to admire your way of telling a story through your covers. Always making them your own in a way that keeps the integrity of the song intact. It is always a treat to hear one of your new songs, the extra time you take to make them perfect is easy to notice. The best Christmas gift anyone could ask for, incredible work!
Duuuuuuuude
I've played this over and over. This is a masterpiece.
It's so good words cannot describe how good it is.
Oh man, Zero's theme at the end really brings the feels. Amazing cover.
The Vile and Zero solos are just perfect. Amazing work!
6:45 the best part
it's like you tell the story of the game only with music
That bass line is goosebump inducing
Sincerely, I was blown away by this tune. The progression from one melody to another revived so many nostalgic emotions from the good times I spent with this game! Many thanks for bringing this work of art and gifting it to our ears. Here's hope things keep going the right way on your end and may we always bask on good music like this for a long, long time.
Your ability to tell a story through your music is endlessly impressive...not to mention cool as heck! This sounds like some kinda Megaman X musical. I especially love the buildup and sendoff of Zero. I mean, wow. Words can't describe how awesome this is. Thank you for making it!
That transition to Variable X was so beautiful I got a little teared up. Incredible work like always!
What I appreciate most about you is that you dont just take a great song and improve it's instrumentation, you add more to it and make it tenfold better than the original.
Your way of making music heavily inspired mine....and you have great thumbnails.
Masterful! 💯
Not just a fire track, this is PLASMA FIRE!
I just realized how OP this theme is
After a long time...
Great song! +-+
Dude, this is flawless! Probably my favorite remix of yours! Sigma Stage 1 is to me, peak music composition. The way it conveys all the emotions that go for the stage, as well as what happens there is amazing. I love how you amplified that by adding other themes like Vile's and the cutscene music. Thanks for this, and Merry Christmas!
Damn can’t wait this is the best Christmas gift lol . Banger incoming ❤️🔥
Yeah... this is the most nostalgic stage for me in X1. Remember as kid hardly being able to climb the platforms that led to the fortress, and it would be such a great achievement for me just climbing up there. That climb alone tells the player the game won't go easy on them from there on. Also, the first song imposes how huge the challenges X would have to overcome to defeat Sigma's tyranny would be, and it definitely shows here. Amazing cover... as usual!
One of the best Mega Man tracks by one of the best Mega Man cover artists? Sign me the hell up.
Metalltool comes back like a Phoenix. This Vile Zero X remix was dope and hits the nostalgia. I got Megaman X for christmas that year. So many emotions. Thank you bro !!! Come back more frequent with live streams
If you're smart, you'll treat Boomer Kuwanger with utmost respect. After all, he's my brother.
@@gravitybeetle4921 Boomers tower with the dash-into spring pads for ultimate speed running with a dope ass soundtrac is the best stage in X.
@@SWIFTO_SCYTHE That's just his stage. What about Boomer Kuwanger himself?
@@SWIFTO_SCYTHE You could say the soundtrack was a "Kuwanger"!
@@abercrombierye3483 I've heard that joke about my brother's theme a lot.
Oh man, the distortion on the synth brass is just perfect.
One of the best musical compositions ever, your cover nailed it, good job.
"Maybe, but im not through yet!"
Words I live by. And you immortalized Zeros first sacrifice with prompt metal glory. Keep up the amazing work Metaltool!
Hell of a late christmas present homie. keep rockin' on.
I love the feel of this. Such a journey. Feeling alone. But the drive to move forward compels!!
2:22 Metalltool moment! This is awesome!!!! Merry christmas!!!
Dude, I will remember this remix forever. Yesterday I had my final exam to graduate from high school, an oral exam. I was VERY nervous about it, I felt I hadn't studied enough and I surely thought of saying nothing because I thought I couldn't say anything. My parents took me to school and since there was a girl before me tò do the exam, they would've returned one hour later to watch me and support me, so I was entering school alone. While I was in the car with them I decided to listen this remix again, I already listened to it like 20 times but this time was special. After I left the car, Vile's theme kicked in and I suddenly started getting more anxious, like I was really gonna fail, and I started walking towards school more slowly... until Zero's death theme kicked in, and I started to feel more brave and less caring about the results of my exam but more caring about the sense of freedom that would have come after the exam, and when I was about to enter the school, that short loop of Sigma's Fortress 1 in the end resumed, but this time I felt more secure of myself. Today I got my results and I got a 17/20 at the oral exam and a 70/100 as a final result with the other exams I've done before. I literally cannot thank enough both you and the original composer for Sigma's Fortress 1, this remix of this song literally altered my emotions in a delicate state, and I was very happy about this, I felt like in another world for 9 minutes. Like another comment said, "this is more than a mere cover, it's a journey.", and I got the chance to test it on myself.
Wow man! Thank you so much for sharing! That's one of best comments I've ever read concerning my work. I have such motivational, important songs of my own, so I know how genuine this is! Congrats on passing! ✌
I cant believe someone beasted out on the bass part too! Me and my buddy were just discussing the other day what a bunch of crazy riffs and pops and slaps are in there. I hear the whole actual bass part in here! This is insanely next level for covers in my book…
Oh My God Metalltool. OH MY GOD!
You are my favorite freakin UA-cam composer. Period.
What a medley! You told a story with your guitar, and that story was quite the flashback for a lot of us.
I subbed after listening to your Gravity Bettle cover and even in the comments they said you don't upload covers that often............... But everytime you do they're *MASTERPIECES!* .
Merry Christmas Metalltool ! !... and be asured your work and effort is not in vain, your Mega Man X tributes are something out of this world and i will always support you, even if i now can only listen, like and share your covers to my friends
Your timing is perfect, just like this cover. Merry Christmas!!
Just now finding this, and it is AMAZING! Megaman X is by far my most favorite game from my childhood
i love how this cover is way more sad and serious .
Merry christmas to you too!!!! Holy SHIT best christmas gift ever!
The sense of nostalgia your remixes give is unlike any of the others I've listened to. I love your work! Keep it up.
I love Mega Man X and its entire OST and it is what made me into the metalhead I am today. You, my friend, truly get it. You are both a musician and a true fan of the series. You're not trying to make another weekly video to make ends meet. You're making this because you love and enjoy every aspect of this series. I respect that and it's clearly obvious in every track you've composed and posted. I've bought all of your MMX material (not played the other ones you covered admittedly). If do you decide to do more I'm 100% confident you will do better than every mainstream videogame guitarist (FamilyJules7X, LittleVMills, ToxicEternity, etc.) to name a few. You've beat them all. Not by outshredding them but through pure composition. You've obviously got a heart for the series that isn't tied to any financial interest so it's unbiased. What everyone is listening to is you and your spare time. Keep it up!
Metalltool didn't disappoint. What a fantastic cover medley!
Just AMAZING!!
eargasm at 5:09
genius!! 👏👏👏
So much emotion in this song.
I just can't believe this, such an amazing work!!! We need more like this, a journey through MegaMan x series!!!
Unbelievable work. A great tribute, well done! Takes me back as well to playing Megaman X as a kid. 5:09 gave me anxiety and flashbacks of spiders.
Thank you for taking time with this; it really paid off.
Holy shit, this is marvelous
Musical storytelling. I am yet again amazed by your work.
Great song. Back from when Sigma was considered a serious threat, the greatest of the Maverick Hunters turned rogue.
Been listening to this a couple times every day for the past 4 days or so. Not planning on stopping. Thanks for your art, Metalltool🤟
Stellar remix, of a stellar track. So awesome that you covered one of my absolute favourites from the game!
Music like this proves that X will always be Rockman. C:
Omg one of the best covers I’ve heard - so perfectly captures the feels from the first Sigma stage!
With just the starting baseline I was hooked. Thank you for this song Metaltool
Sheesh this is everything and more. 🔥
Awesome. Always happy to hear Megaman X covers from you
It's like Christmas Morning.
You just nailed it again at all possible levels. Such an emotional track!! Congrats!!!!
Ahhh merry Christmas to all with a long awaited metaltool remix 🤙🏽 I love sigma stage one! That cover art is amazing!!
I can't praise your music abilities and raw talent enough man. Thank you for the shoutout and keep up the awesome work! You're the reason I've had to replay Mega Man X so many times. Every time I hear one of your reimagined versions of the music it transports me to my childhood. Keep on rockin mate!
i wish i could like this 1000000000 times. gorgeous. i can feel the love that came out of developing this and the transitions from outside the tower to fighting vava/vile to zero's death were all done seamlessly. you really captured that feeling of playing through the level perfectly! AWESOME as always!
This is my favorite game of all time. There is something powerful about the themes of this first game. Before focusing on X's role as the ancestor of all Reploids, it focused on his potential and growth. X starts off as a B class hunter, with Zero taking on the "senpai" role, trying to show X the ropes and help him throughout the game. When X has met up with Zero before heading to Sigma's fortress, X has grown much stronger, ready to fight, but he still lacks some resolve. This first stage represents X's personal transformation, the daunting task before him. X failed to stand up against Vile when Zero was able to save him in the first stage, but this time, X realizes that strength means very little if he cannot save those he cares about and it means more when his strength is combined for the same cause. Zero sacrifices himself to save X, but this time, because he trusts X to finish the job. X is a variable representing X's infinite potential. Not just for power but for personal growth. Upon finishing the task to defeat Vile, together with Zero's help, he takes on Zero's power to carry the will of his closest friend as well and stop Sigma, who is the anti-thesis to the use of power that X believes in. Day of Sigma delved into this theme as well as Sigma could not understand X's restraint, calling him "weak" for holding back or relying on others to save him or help him.
X defeating Sigma with his combined power from Zero is cathartic to say the least.
Search and destroy the former Maverick Hunter called Sigma
This is absolutely incredible. Captured the emotion perfectly.
I needed this in my life. Great work as always!
hats off this is one of the best covers i ever heard sir u awesome.
You put so much effort into your songs and it really shows. So cool
This is like an xmas gift. Thanks for the upload man!
Bro. I am a huge fan of Megaman. I have a few covers in my channel but i cannot compare them with yours. First your Wily Stage 3 Remix, then this masterpiece. You have truly put your heart into this one. I can feel it. You are combining amazing melodies with your own style.
This is wonderful.
This a fantastic cover as always. Merry Christmas!
Awesome as always. Words can't describe the amazing job you've done as always. Merry Christmas!!!!
Big up on this piece Its a great homage to classical masterpiece These tones and sounds have been crest to my heart. they have always powered me up to be the best i can be in life thank you!
This is really cool!
This is absolutely superb! X-cellent work! 🔥🔥🔥
I always appreciate your glorious remixes of Mega Man X series themes. When I listen to them, I remember the feeling had while playing them as a kid. And big respect for making them sound so damn good!
This was an experience, man. What an amazing journey this mix is, wow.
This is such a impressive narrative
Amazing goddamn track. The chill of those initial synths, and then when things get rocking, you know things are ON! The one track to pump you up to take down an evil empire!
Magnificent work!
You nailed this more than perfect. And that ending is so insane. Straight talent
I love your covers/remakes. That being said, I really wish you let the bassline shine more in your final edit for this song. The bassline of this song is one of the absolute best parts, and it feels a bit overshadowed by the guitar and synth.
Absolutely gorgeous!
exceptionally captured the battle against vile
This is more than a cover, you arranged the whole tracks that were involved in that stage!!!
Love it!
This is brilliantly done!
And your buddy Kevin's art is epic
Man the compilation's great and all but I could listen to a separate version of that Zero theme forever. It's so good.
