- New Model Army, live at the Town and Country Club, London, November 24th 1988.
Record from analogue terrestrial broadcast, onto Scotch EG+ L-750 Betamax videotape, tape archive number 393. New Model Army are an English rock band formed in Bradford, West Yorkshire, in 1980 by lead singer, guitarist and main composer Justin Sullivan, bassist Stuart Morrow and drummer Phil Tompkins. Sullivan has been the only continuous member of the band, which has seen numerous line-up changes in its four-decade history. Their music draws on influences across the musical spectrum, from punk and folk to soul, metal and classical. Sullivan's lyrics, which range from directly political through to spiritual and personal, have always been considered as a key part of the band's appeal.
Whilst having their roots in punk rock, the band have always been difficult to categorise. In 1999, when asked about this, Sullivan said, "We've been labelled as punks, post-punks, Goth, metal, folk - the lot, but we've always been beyond those style confines". Following a large turnover of personnel, both permanent and as touring members, as of 2021 New Model Army comprise Sullivan, Dean White (keyboards and guitar), Michael Dean (drums) and Ceri Monger (bass).

Jesus , I just can't understand how these kids managed to enjoy themselves so much without holding a camera phone in the air for two hours! /s
Just look how much moving and awareness of other people they had to do…. Exhausting!
(It wasnt) 🎉
❤
yeah weird to think there wasn't a single mobile phone there!
Saw NMA support Aswad in 1984 & a few times at Reading Festival . Great band .
New Model Army was and still is one of my favourite bands. Saw them around 4 times in the 80s. Was at their first gig here in Vancouver at the old 86 Street Cafe. Only about a dozen tickets were sold and if memory serves me correct, 8 of them were mine. So instead of cancelling the gig, it was made free and refunds given.
Met Justin the lead singer after a gig at the Town Pump. I stole liquor and beer from the bar and off to Pogo's place for after show festivities. That is when I found out that Justin was good friends with Joolz and I really liked her work also. Plus a couple of buddies did video work for her in Vancouver with Paul Wong.
YES. Probably the most underrated band of the era. NMA is The Fall with Clash-level compositional skills.
Not my me great band saw them live a few times
Fantastic! This has made my day. Thank you!
Très rares les vidéos de NMA live période eighties ! Merci !
Stuart Morrow - what a bass player.... mid to late 80's they were a superb live act
Agreed, but it's not Morrow in this video, it's Moose Harris. Morrow had left the band by early 1985.
Fantastic ,oh yeah ,this was my youth-time ,still feel it and LOVE IT 💪♥️👏🏼✌🏻
Thanks for watching and commenting Ivy🙂
I saw NMA about three years ago but would much rather have seen them back then when they had good stuff out. Green & Grey, Stupid Questions, Poison Street, Small Town England etc. Stu Morrow's bass playing on the really early stuff is off the chain
"From here" is one of their best albums… Not afraid to deal with the passing of time, the next generation ("They watch and learn") and that bloody apocalypse everyone feels coming…
What a band! The excitement of the audience almost seems incomprehensible in our day when everyone is directing from their cell phones
The chance of attending any gig these days and seeing young people like this is zero.
@@ScottishTeeVee sure.. this is very sad
Saw these last weekend blew Dublin away.
I never realised they were on tour right now.
They are doing even 2 gigs in Cologne short before Xmas, which always was their time to come over here. Maybe I should go - once again? ;-)
They remind me so much of The Jam.... But better!!!! What a great performance!!! Really great stuff 👍😊💓💓💓
Thanks so much Katie
Hey, I never made the connection with Ye Mighty Jam, but you are right ! Thank you !
COME ON!!! Saw Justin at Hackney in 2018, fuck me man, what a show, still got the booklet for a night of a thousand voices.
Thanks for watching and commenting Alfie
Magnifique!!!!!
Thanks for posting this, takes me back. I could well have been in the audience for that one, that was about the time I was really getting into them at the ripe old age of 18.
thanks a million , until now this show was available with poor quality
We love you stilllllll
I was there and I’m somewhere in that pit.
You very lucky person😎
I officially hate you ! ;)
Me too. I remember how unusually bright it was in there that night, due to the TV crew filming
Must have seen them for the first time this year, or the next… I'm still around for this year's tour !
Cracking quality, many, many thanks !
