    When red squirrels find acorns, they stash them in secret locations hoping others don't find them. What are your thoughts on this unique game of hide and seek?

      I cant believe they dont show just how in-depth this "game" gets. If a squirrel knows it is being watched as it hides food, it will actually only pretend to bury it! Then bury it in a different location when the thief squirrel is busy trying to find the acorn they THINK is hidden there! They are very savvy!

    Don't be fooled that red squirrels are cute. Sometimes they can be very aggressive. The jay is a master of imitation. Squirrels are afraid of falcons. So The jay can imitate the hawk sound very well.

    Here in Canada our red squirrels are really more red, they don't have the grey in their coats and they do not have the ear tufts. But they share that competitive personality, they often fight or chase each other.

    Can someone tell me if developing cystitis is normal in domesticated squirrels??

    • @avonavians2860
      @avonavians2860 2 роки тому

      It probably is.
      I know that in guinea pigs, it is caused by overdosing on calcium and dehydration. Keeping a squirrel well-hydrated while also watching its calcium intake should help prevent cystitis.

    How come red squirrels in Europe eat acorns but the ones in the US only eat pinecones??

    • @aandykf
      @aandykf 2 роки тому +1

      Many, many years of independent evolution in very different habitats. But usually European red squirrels prefer hazelnuts and chestnuts over acorns - but that is probably dependent on the amount and type of food available in the region.

    • @avonavians2860
      @avonavians2860 2 роки тому

      Eurasian red squirrels are more closely related to gray squirrels than American red squirrels.
      What's more confusing is why unrelated Eurasian and American red squirrels have such a similar preference for conifer seeds.
      But both American and Eurasian red squirrels will eat acorns.
