Are you serious??? Expensive girl is talking about a serious issue and you two reply with THINGS THAT GOT *NOTHING* TO DO WITH KOALAS. Get a life you two.
It kills me that these fires are killing these slow, sleepy, sweethearts so easily. They have zero chance other than the kindness of some big hearted humans rescuing them down there. Thank you to all helping these gentle babes
unlike any animal, koalas cannot comprehend that fire is dangerous. They only know it's painful when they are burned by it. Sloth knows fire is dangerous, so they back off or run. Sloth is just lazy, not stupid.
Disney or Pixar needs to make a hit animated movie with a koala as the lead protagonist, it would cause a koala craze and fundings for the saving of the species would blow up 🥺
"Allows them to consume a substance the mother secretes to aid in digestion" This is the sort of thing Nat Geo had to do to give a whole 4 minutes of koala facts without making them look bad.
You are obviously joking ... over the decades I've seen them throughout the country from east to west and top to bottom .... during the 60's dead ones were seen on the roads everywhere ... these days it's not so common to see a dead one .... during the past 50 years about 90% have disappeared mainly due to blindness and diseases
@honkster 7 I'm talking late fifties to early sixties I saw a few in the south west .... saw one near Busselton in 1971 .... haven't spent much time in WA during the past forty years so can't comment on the recent past.
They can do damage with those claws if you try to make them do something they don't want to do like getting off a road, A friend of mine tried to get one sitting in the middle of the road to move and got some nice stitches in return
Yeh I paid to hold one when I was in Hamilton Island not long ago, and I freaked out when I saw it’s claws. All the tourists were eyeing me like I was crazy, but iv’e heard they can be vicious and I’m a chicken.
actually, if not for australian conservation program, they will die off by themselves. They are on the way to extinct themselves through very bad choices of gene pool.
Koalas are amongst the most adorable animals I have ever seen in my life. It is so sad the population is decreasing by the days, not to mention the bushfires in the beginning of the year that killed so many off.
Yes, koalas are great. Worth protecting just like Ukraine. Russian soldiers have behaved badly in Ukraine. What do you have to say about Putin? Do Russians believe his lies? Innocent people in Ukraine trying live their lives have been forced from their homes. Many towns and cities are in ruins. Shame on the Russian Government.
As Australians it is our responsibility to help protect koalas. I’m 14, any spare change I have sometimes get’s donated to them. You can do what you want but it’s good to help.
It's sad how we can't do much about the koalas and we can't make them un-endangered. We do try our best to help them but we need more support for them. We do also need to make them more loved in those lovely fascinating creatures!
Thanks Nat Geo. Two additions/ corrections: since the release of this, the koala has been listed as Endangered 😭 The reason mentioned for deforestation is not entirely accurate. Urbanisation is one of the reasons but the biggest is for BEEF production. 80% of our meat is exported so biggest action people from overseas can take to help save the koalas is to stop eating imported Australian meat (check the label) or drastically reduce your consumption. Second reason, habitat destruction for urban expansion to meet the housing demand, new housing estates being built. Our immigration levels are at a record high so again, if you want to help the koala, do not move to Australia. As an independent Australian researcher on Koalas, I can tell you planting trees is not the long term solution because we cannot plant trees quick enough to outpace the speed at which their trees are being cut down.
Just fell in love with Koalas! Never been able to go to AUS but dammit I want to see one for myself ! We have to protect them, the bushfires are so horrific!
