  • The Weihrauch HW77K Moderator does not come with any instructions, so here is a quick guide to this fiddly task.
    I would suggest the presence of a nice cup of tea while you do this.

      Hello, yes apologies for that. The muzzle report was definitely muted, although the spring and action noise was then more noticeable. They do say that it is downrange that the difference is noticeable with a springer rather than at the shooter's end of the gun.

    Good video, thanks! I feel like the moderator is a good deal, it not only reduces the sound, but makes it lower, which I think is better. A worthwhile addition if you're shooting in your backyard.

    Just installed mine ... this video helped me in choice. It does make a difference on the.177 HW77 (long). Seems like it takes the crack out of some of the shots. Just my impression. IMHO, looks great too. Also, the one I received just has the mfg markings on the muzzle ... so looks all black from side to side, but the critters will see the W and model and air gun only markings.

    I got a weihrauch moderator for my HW90, and it was throwing off my shots about an inch and a half at 30 yards. I was told that's normal and to just re zero the scope to bring back point of impact. Instead, I decided to remove it and leave it off. I'll hold on to it but I wish I hadn't bought it.

      Was accuracy worse after fitting the moderator or the same?
      I have noticed point of impact shift after fitting a moderator, but a reduction in accuracy implies that the pellet is clipping baffles or the end cap.

    Very informative Nick. I am looking at the HW77 or a HW57 threaded but pre-owned. Unfortunately I cannot afford a new package as I am aware that I need to leave enough left over for a good scope. I am wondering how far back in 77 models will this silencer fit. I have seen some early models in my price range. Promising!

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  Рік тому

      Hello, thank you for your comment.
      Moderators and thread adaptors do seem to like to get stuck together.
      The way I do it is to put penetrating oil on the thread and soak overnight. Clean the outside surfaces and wrap the moderator in bits of an old leather belt then put it in a vice. Then put leather or rubber around the adaptor and grip it with mole grips to undo it. Go gentle, don't overtighten, try not to slip, readjust if necessary.
      There will always be the risk of damaging the finish.

    Hi, well what alot of faffing about ! Don't like it personally and not worth the trouble. Had an air logic version of this year's 35 years ago on my mk 1 .22 hw77k and was inaccurate too. Also on my gun noise difference from muzzle was hardly noticeable in .22 cal. More beneficial on a noisy 1.77 I'd say. For me personally I've shot my 77k all of these 35 years ,both hunting and target ,without a silencer and it's really fine.
    Cheers Brian

      Hello, thank you for your comment much appreciated. Always good to hear from long term owners willing to share their knowledge and experience.
      Weihrauch do seem to have prioritised function over form with this product. I quite like it but it is such a shame it couldn't have been more streamlined and look more like the HW97, but I guess they wanted it to be the proverbial brick "out" house (but then used tiny little screws).
      It was fiddly to fit (working around a camera and trying to show the viewer what was happening), but it fitted very well.
      I used to not bother with moderators but increasingly my hunting is from a hide or is within the earshot of folk that want to live in the country but not live a country life, so needs must.
      I purchased this product, found there were no instructions so I filmed the video to hopefully help out my fellow shooters.
      Downrange the muzzle report is muted. As with all springers the "action" is still audible but it is right by my ear. I will be filming part 2 at some point to hopefully show the difference.
      Thank you again for your comment, safe shooting 👍🏻.

      @@nickvending9688 Thanks for the reply Nick. Just out of interest I see Weihrauch have just brought out the latest version of the HW57 FTS with the 77 foresight and lever assembly fitted, with the bonuses of a screwcut barrel thread and protector ready for easy fitting silencer of choice. Looks nice little package. What do you think ? Got good review on gunmart. Cheers.

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  2 роки тому +2

      I have always liked the concept of the HW57, the pop up breech looked like it would be easier to load than the HW77K's breech but keeping the benefits of a fixed barrel.
      However the elephant in the room with the 57 is the pop up breech, specifically the seals. I know that I sound like every Facebook group member when I say that but it was often discussed for a reason. As far as I could see it was caused by misalignment of the breech resulting in the seals catching and tearing. It wasn't every gun but it was enough of them to make me cautious.
      However I note in the Gunmart review I just read that the breech doesn't come up as far now, so hopefully that means the issues have been tuned out of the breech with better / stronger alignment. I'm sure Weihrauch wouldn't have let it continue, they would have fixed it.
      I did handle a 57 with the Minelli stock a few years ago, it felt a bit shall we say junior to me. I didn't get on with the shape or size of the stock. But I am 6ft 5in so most items do feel undersized (have a look at my review of the Nitehawk padded shooting table for an example).
      The 57 fts seem to be going for anywhere between £305 to £350, mainly £335. There is a shop local to me that last time I went was selling the HW77K brand new for £360 - not a huge amount more and I know which one I would rather buy for that sort of money.

      @@jamieogorman9461 it's a pity really, the 57 should be a good little gun but it just seems to be missing the Weihrauch touch. Great description, yeah I agree with you. They work on a PCP, but moderators on spring guns are a bit more subjective because of the noise from the mechanism right by your ear.
      They are quieter down range with a moddy, but I'd rather not stand in front to hear the benefit.
      I'm quite lucky that my 77k has a quiet spring from the factory so I did get some benefit from the moderator.
      Back when I bought it and a Weihrauch 1/2" moderator they were quite reasonably priced, but now I'd say they are rather expensive and the 1/2" version is a bit basic compared to other moderators in the same price bracket.

I have in my possession a moderator given to me many years ago that had been fitted to a Falcon pcp it actually managed to amplify the muzzle blast yet fitted to a spring gun is quite effective cannot get inside the thing to see how it works, I can tell you it is the smallest and heaviest moderator in my collection.
