BMX - How to Setup Your Gyro Brake System

- How to install your cables for your gyro brake system. Having brakes doesn't have to be complicated.
Follow the video, and start from top to bottom if cables aren't installed yet. Also make sure the brake pads are aligned with the rim before you begin.
BONUS
TIP 1,,, If you find the brakes too stiff or too loose. Either the cables need replacing, or the tension of the brake caliber needs adjusting.
TIP 2... If you find your brakes not having enough power to stop you, Try replacing your brake pads with NEW ones. Even longer ones if possible. Old pads can be dried out and or worn. You will find new pads are fresh and a little softer to grab the rim.
Also, try to loosen the tension on the caliber as much as possible, but still having it rebound back into position. You'll find when you use the brake lever its easier to pull, thus making it grab better on the rim.
If you ride your BMX frequently, I recommend buying cables every year. As well as removing your brakes to expose the posts to clean and lubricate them. Upper and Lower Cables are inexpensive and should run anywhere from $6 to $10 a piece.

Bonus Opinion.
I get some customers who take their brakes completely off. Mainly because it doesn't work properly. and plus it looks cool. I only recommend a brakeless BMX if your using it strictly in the skate park, and have experience free-styling with your BMX.
If you have trouble with your BMX brakes, and you don't feel comfortable working on them. Go see your local bike shop. Brake Adjustments can be FREE or up to $20 in shop. - Спорт
Best brake/gyro video available. Clear, concise, and quick. Excellent job.
Hell yeah it is, the other videos that came up had blurry video and "custom setups for their gyro" I just wanted an out of box install and adjust. Dude nailed it.

Wow, this video helped me a lot. I had my bike shipped to me and it came in a box unassembled. I figured out every thing exept how to put the wires for the breaks. Thank you so much for making this vide. Most of the other youtubers don't do a good job explaining.
Great video, the others I watched the guys had "custom gyros" and "this setup isnt for everyone". This was straightforward and clear video with clear audio. Best video for gyro out of the box install of lower cables hands down. And a free brake adjustment bit. Great video for beginners and people getting back into BMX.
Best detangler / Gyro adjustment video on UA-cam.
This was helpful for fixing my Redline Slash SE back brakes with the gyro I was having a really hard time finding a video that could help. But then this one showed up and i got to fix my BMX!!
3:20 Exactly what I needed! Thanks!!🎉
Holey smokes! Thanks to your video I got my bosse's son's bicycle assembled, you rock and thanks again!

I remember my first Haro bike in the early 90s... was a beast and got ran over by a truck and barely did any damage.... I’m here now to build up my sons bike since it came in pieces lol... good video
Thank you. That's awesome. I'd love to see a picture of the build.
Thank You for help bought a BMX bike for my nephew, it's been along time since I worked on bicycle forgot how to install the brakes on the it .So thanks again . Paul
Very well explained. Building a bike for my nephew first time and you made it easy enough for me thank you!
I'm restoring my Haro and this has been a big help l, thank you so much
thank you for the video helped me fix the breaks on my bike
This is going to save me a lot of shoes and tires. When I was riding 10 years ago we just took the brakes the off the bikes so we didn't have to worry about them getting tangled. To stop it was just jam whatever foot was closest to the back tire between it and the frame while our front foot was used as a front brake the same way with the fork. I went through a lot of shoes as a kid and I got about half the life expectancy out of a tire
Exactly what I needed to see thank you👍🏽
Perfect guide ! Simple and easy to understand
Glad it helped. It's good to hear feed back. Thanks for stopping by.
This was definitely helpful for me. My gryo was lose and when you would turn it would Clank was thinking I would need a new one

Great video just bought a bike with a gyro the lower race is rocking when the bars are being turned Ive tried adjusting at the stem but can only get an improvement ive screwed right in on one side and all the way out the other . Keeping the adjustment equal on all four is worse ? Can you advise many thanks
If you put your bars to the side would the breaks still work
i like the gyro or we call it bike rotator brakes back in the '80's. it looks nice and cool designs
Loony Linn we called it a gyro back in the 80’s in Pittsburgh

Are there any Gyros that work with integrated headsets? Just getting back into BMX after a few decades. Thanks!
Can you link the parts for the bike? I have an old downtown dlx with no brake cables as the previous owner decided to take them off
Awesome thanks! Can you do a how to video for putting on an old school ACS rotor from total scratch (bearings and small parts all out)?
Troy Smith I'll see what I can do. It'll have to be when I have more time.
I'm getting a new bmx bike soon and it doesn't come with a gyro so I'm ordering a complete set. But from the looks of it, it doesn't come with an x over cable and a cable hanger. I checked on ur site but couldn't find anything. Do u know any sites that would have these parts?
I love you mr. Conoli
Ha!!!! Your video was so on point I did my grandsons bike!!!!
Awesome!! That makes me happy that others can do it. Thanks for letting me know. :)
@@SportsShackEDM coolest Grandma ever riiiightttt? Lol

What cable hanger did you use

is this possible for a MTB? or needs alot of work?
Who else is here because your brakes exploded. Oh wait. Never mind it was the people who sold me this bike at the store who ripped me off and said the “fixed” the brakes and never did. Noticed when I brought it home and tried it! Almost died!
how the heck does the rear brake on a 20 inch dynacraft go on especially the miserable spring
Nice video !! All dislikes are from people who don’t have a bmx bike / to stupid to follow along in the video!
now i understood know it works
wow how does this brake system work?
I have adjusted my adjusters many times but started lol have loads of slack. Please help as I don't know what to do
Hi, The best thing the do is to follow the video from the start, but sounds like you don't have enough pull from the brakes, which can create slack in system. So use the 13mm wrench and 5mm allen key, and adjust the spring tension. Don't tension it too hard though cause then you will have to pull harder on the lever. If you still have problems, start from scratch, and follow video. But let me know if you still have trouble, and I can try to help you out. Hope this helps.
can you do this on any bmx?
Can i do this on other bmx
I have the Issue from 4:15 that my gyro moves when I turn my bars, then I tighten one side so it',s fine wenn my bars are pointing to the front, but when I turn my bars 180 degrees the gyro moves again. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Help me 😄
I assume the top plate is moving. It does have to be tighter. Make sure the head-stem is above the steer tube(your fork) you may need spacers to accomplish that. While the head-stem is loose tighten the top plate to compress everything down, but not too tight. This will help stop the top plate from moving.
Does it work I wanna know be4 I do it
Does that bike have gyro tabs cause I have no idea what they are, and I don’t have them. If it does then is it possible to install gyro brakes without them?
It has a unsealed headset so it has the tabs where the cup should be
Thanks now my gyro is perfect
Thats what I want to hear! Glad I could help.
@@SportsShackEDM thanks mate
You are a good UA-camr
Appreciate that a lot! Thank you.

is haro la bastille frame good for street/flat? i have been riding bmx for years (3) with not a really good bike... It was really hard to fly a tail whip without a ramp and a 15 kg bike... I´m 1,72, what would be the perfect size? My current bike is 20´5 (top tube; frame) and i think it is a little short, but i´m not sure if the 21 size would be the right size... the problem is that la bastille frame is 19´ something, 2,25 (too small) and 21. Thank you all so much (writing from Spain).
I'm 173 and I run an impurity HAF with a 20.45 you'll be good
I´ll check it out, thank u 4 the reply! ^^
Now it´s only available with a 20.7 size...Still good i think. I will consider this frame. Still thankful 4 the information bro have a nice day! ^^
It's 20.7 with an affective 20.45 top tube due to the seat angle. So you'll be fine
can you please tell me how to take a brake lever off, mine won't come off
It should come off easily. First make sure the grip is off ; 2nd take the screw completely out ; 3rd use a flat screwdriver to spread open the space between. This will help to rotate it off the handlebars. Hope that helps.
Did U know how to setup acs rotor
Can someone please tell me how to take the lower cable stop off. It looks like its hammered on but im not sure.
+tonypengo The best way to take it out is remove the fork, and underneath(through the head tube), hammer it out. There is a tool the shop uses called a Head Cup Remover, its a evenly placed tool that shapes around the headset. If you don't have one, maybe a large flat screwdriver can work. You'll just have to hit it out around the headset to get it out. Once the headset portion is out, the lower cable stop will come out.
+Sports Shack thanks so much!
Yo I can't fix my brake like the back when I press it the back doesn't touch the rim an the other just stays still
Yo tighten up the brake caliper itself
@@madgigahz brake caliper?
Lil yup yea the brake itself. Squeeze the brake? Then tighten up the wire coming from the brake lever
@@madgigahz yo thx
Sports channel, I had this one guy work on my.Bmx bike and my bike has brake mounts.. Where do I order them? Thank you
on my nephew gyro brake system brake lever is hard to pull does not stop quickly enough help
Could be a couple things. First make sure the Ubrake caliper is moving freely, with little spring tension, but enough to snap back to position. You may need to clean the posts on the inside and grease, if it barely moves. Next the cables. Make sure the cables aren't rusty or have any fraying. You may need to change the upper and or lower cables. Those are the most common areas that create the problem. Hope that helps.
my question has been answered on how bmx handlebar works with brakes hahha
my lock washer and barrle keeps skiping its no titing
always have the right top cable on the right side slighty titer than the left to stop gyro click
Great Video, however you missed showing us the left lever set up.
What about front brakes?
My brakes are loose and I adjusted them but no luck
Like the bike wish I had one😔
