Hell yeah it is, the other videos that came up had blurry video and "custom setups for their gyro" I just wanted an out of box install and adjust. Dude nailed it.
Great video, the others I watched the guys had "custom gyros" and "this setup isnt for everyone". This was straightforward and clear video with clear audio. Best video for gyro out of the box install of lower cables hands down. And a free brake adjustment bit. Great video for beginners and people getting back into BMX.
Wow, this video helped me a lot. I had my bike shipped to me and it came in a box unassembled. I figured out every thing exept how to put the wires for the breaks. Thank you so much for making this vide. Most of the other youtubers don't do a good job explaining.
I remember my first Haro bike in the early 90s... was a beast and got ran over by a truck and barely did any damage.... I’m here now to build up my sons bike since it came in pieces lol... good video
This was helpful for fixing my Redline Slash SE back brakes with the gyro I was having a really hard time finding a video that could help. But then this one showed up and i got to fix my BMX!!
This is going to save me a lot of shoes and tires. When I was riding 10 years ago we just took the brakes the off the bikes so we didn't have to worry about them getting tangled. To stop it was just jam whatever foot was closest to the back tire between it and the frame while our front foot was used as a front brake the same way with the fork. I went through a lot of shoes as a kid and I got about half the life expectancy out of a tire
Thank You for help bought a BMX bike for my nephew, it's been along time since I worked on bicycle forgot how to install the brakes on the it .So thanks again . Paul
Thanks great video.. Trying to get my bottom/rear line setup to my old Bulldog 884's on the '95 Dyno Air. Front brake was the easy one lol. I still need to adjust the 4 ends/ballpoints a bit more.. almost there!
Great video just bought a bike with a gyro the lower race is rocking when the bars are being turned Ive tried adjusting at the stem but can only get an improvement ive screwed right in on one side and all the way out the other . Keeping the adjustment equal on all four is worse ? Can you advise many thanks
I'm getting a new bmx bike soon and it doesn't come with a gyro so I'm ordering a complete set. But from the looks of it, it doesn't come with an x over cable and a cable hanger. I checked on ur site but couldn't find anything. Do u know any sites that would have these parts?
I have the Issue from 4:15 that my gyro moves when I turn my bars, then I tighten one side so it',s fine wenn my bars are pointing to the front, but when I turn my bars 180 degrees the gyro moves again. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Help me 😄
I assume the top plate is moving. It does have to be tighter. Make sure the head-stem is above the steer tube(your fork) you may need spacers to accomplish that. While the head-stem is loose tighten the top plate to compress everything down, but not too tight. This will help stop the top plate from moving.
Does that bike have gyro tabs cause I have no idea what they are, and I don’t have them. If it does then is it possible to install gyro brakes without them?
Hi, The best thing the do is to follow the video from the start, but sounds like you don't have enough pull from the brakes, which can create slack in system. So use the 13mm wrench and 5mm allen key, and adjust the spring tension. Don't tension it too hard though cause then you will have to pull harder on the lever. If you still have problems, start from scratch, and follow video. But let me know if you still have trouble, and I can try to help you out. Hope this helps.
is haro la bastille frame good for street/flat? i have been riding bmx for years (3) with not a really good bike... It was really hard to fly a tail whip without a ramp and a 15 kg bike... I´m 1,72, what would be the perfect size? My current bike is 20´5 (top tube; frame) and i think it is a little short, but i´m not sure if the 21 size would be the right size... the problem is that la bastille frame is 19´ something, 2,25 (too small) and 21. Thank you all so much (writing from Spain).
Who else is here because your brakes exploded. Oh wait. Never mind it was the people who sold me this bike at the store who ripped me off and said the “fixed” the brakes and never did. Noticed when I brought it home and tried it! Almost died!
+tonypengo The best way to take it out is remove the fork, and underneath(through the head tube), hammer it out. There is a tool the shop uses called a Head Cup Remover, its a evenly placed tool that shapes around the headset. If you don't have one, maybe a large flat screwdriver can work. You'll just have to hit it out around the headset to get it out. Once the headset portion is out, the lower cable stop will come out.
I can work on one. Just a little busy at moment. In the mean time this is what you can do. Use the 5mm allen key and 13mm wrench(similar to what I do near the end of this video.) Use that to adjust the tension. If they move freely and easy all you need to do is replace the cable and housing. If they don't move freely, take them off the post and clean it. Put grease on post and reinsert brake with the allen key and wrench. That should do it.
Could be a couple things. First make sure the Ubrake caliper is moving freely, with little spring tension, but enough to snap back to position. You may need to clean the posts on the inside and grease, if it barely moves. Next the cables. Make sure the cables aren't rusty or have any fraying. You may need to change the upper and or lower cables. Those are the most common areas that create the problem. Hope that helps.
I didn't even know what a gyro was, but my rear break broke so I took it off and it was really difficult. But now I only have a front break and I'm thinking of just taking it off as well, what do you think? Should I take it off or leave it on?
+Random Vids If you use the bike to get around town I'd really recommend to keep them on. If you use it strictly at skate park, and your comfortable with it, sure you can take the brakes off. I'd practice first, as you do not want to hurt yourself or other people if you can't control the bike without brakes.
+Sports Shack well my front brakes work like shit, so I'm usually stopping with my feet anyways. And I actually never really go to skate parks, I just do tricks around my neighborhood. So it's kinda difficult to decide weather I should take it off or leave it on. I'm probably going to end up taking them off.
It should come off easily. First make sure the grip is off ; 2nd take the screw completely out ; 3rd use a flat screwdriver to spread open the space between. This will help to rotate it off the handlebars. Hope that helps.
Couple things will help. The tension on the brakes itself will have to have a stronger spring pull. Use the 13mm wrench, and 5mm allen key. The other you may have to change either the upper/lower cable set. If you want, try to spray lubricate inside the cable housing. It is best just to replace it. But first thing is tension on your brake.
+Keanan Scott The lower cable is too long? You can shorten the single piece part. Cut the housing only where you need, but you can't do anything on the closed off(V side) part. If it's too long on the closed off part, use a zip tie to hold the cable housing when you stretch it out further closer to the brake system. Hope that helps.
+Daimler Bermudo Some BMX that do not have a gyro system have holes on the left and right on the head tube. They use a integrated headset, so those holes are used to take place of the lower cable stop. You'll have to have the brackets that attach to the head tube to install the lower cables. A traditional gyro won't work on a integrated headset.
Just put together a bike for my kiddo and watched the video to help me figure out how the breaking system works and how to put it together and now the rear breaks dont work at all. So, there's that.
If the bike doesn't have it. The best choice to find a gyro to fit on the head tube. Make sure you find out the diameter of the head tube first before you get one. There are 2 sizes.

This was definitely helpful for me. My gryo was lose and when you would turn it would Clank was thinking I would need a new one
Are there any Gyros that work with integrated headsets? Just getting back into BMX after a few decades. Thanks!

Awesome thanks! Can you do a how to video for putting on an old school ACS rotor from total scratch (bearings and small parts all out)?

Is there a way to do this with a 10 speed? I want to customize a 'COLLECTIVE LH1 MTB'. I want a Gyro Brake System on sooooo bad!
Just subscribed! Great video! I'll use this video to adjust my son's new Haro BMX bike.
Awesome, thats great. Glad I could help.
i like the gyro or we call it bike rotator brakes back in the '80's. it looks nice and cool designs
Loony Linn we called it a gyro back in the 80’s in Pittsburgh
Thanks man. Now I can fix my boys bike 👊🤙
thank you for the video helped me fix the breaks on my bike
Can you link the parts for the bike? I have an old downtown dlx with no brake cables as the previous owner decided to take them off

It has a unsealed headset so it has the tabs where the cup should be
I have adjusted my adjusters many times but started lol have loads of slack. Please help as I don't know what to do
Hi, The best thing the do is to follow the video from the start, but sounds like you don't have enough pull from the brakes, which can create slack in system. It's 20.7 with an affective 20.45 top tube due to the seat angle. So you'll be fine

Can you make a video of how to put scooter Handel bars on a bmx that has a gyro brake system or what ever you call it plz

That'll depend on what kind of handlebar. The professional scooters won't work on a BMX.
