You know you really miss a console when you actually just want to feel the pad to see if your memory remembers the feel of the d-pad and the buttons. Love that flimsy d-pad
It's funny because I took one to the Philippines and people there loved it. Even though they love pc gaming and internet cafes are everywhere, it pulled them away. I think if marketed correctly it could do very well. It's not always about the super graphics.
Awesome! I had a master system with no physical games but just Alex Kidd built-in. I think that I've finished it maybe a couple of hundreds of times at least :)
I'm from Australia (now residing in New Zealand) and I remember getting a Sega Master System for Christmas 1991 which my dad bought ah the awesome memories ^^
Christmas day 1991. And being a Christmas day baby. My 5th birthday. I was given this masterpiece. Which my parents played to death and I didn't get a look in till I was 7. Still holds up today. My first and most beloved game
I also got my Sega Master System II on Xmas day 1991 and all my strongest memories consist of playing Alex Kidd that day too. I was in New Zealand though so about 12 hours ahead. Also 9 years old and did work out pretty quickly the Janken Matches were all the same. Allthough if you lost one round it went random as far as I could tell. Took me until September 1992 to finish the game, and then only when I was stuck on the final room, I had to ask around school how to read that tablet! bottom to top and right to left...I never would've worked this out myself, so vague! I'm enjoying your channel a lot, a lot of Sega content, which is lacking on youtube. Nintendo usually gets all the attention.
I never knew this game came out April 2016! That's when I became a fan of this game series. For my 9th birthday (2016) I got a Sega Genesis! The next day I got to play it! It was fun! So I've been a fan of the series since April 3, 2016! I've been a fan for 2 years! Wow!
Really nice history of Alex Kidd 1 and 2, thanks. This sequel is way more like the classic than Alex Kidd and the Lost Stars, which was fun but treated like a sequel back on the SMS. Then Alex Kidd High Tech World, etc.
Hello! I'm from Brazil let me explain you... The Brazilian Master System 1 did not come with any games, but if you turned on the console without cartridges, you could play a simple game called "Snail Maze"... With the release of Alex Kidd, tectoy (SEGA representative in Brazil) made a master system 1 model with Alex Kidd, and for marketing reasons called it Master System "2". After this event, SEGA launched the true Master System 2, and Tectoy after a while, launched it here by calling it Master System "3" (also with Alex Kidd in memory). After a while, Tectoy released the Master System "3" with Sonic in memory, well afterwards also released other versions, such as one that included Great Soccer, which was very popular here in brazil. By the mid-2000s, tectoy made a version called "Master System 3 collection" which came with more than 100 games in memory and a 6-button style control of Mega Drive. Awsome video!! I love your channel! Sorry for the probably english errors. XDD
Hmm.. I got my master system x-mas 1987 (Finland) and it had snail maze. IIRC, it came bundled with the light phaser, safari hunt and hang on. (Dad also bought couple of master system joysticks (Control Sticks) as he didn't like the pad and so I really disliked all the _crappy_ "nintendo" pads at first and preferred joysticks for a long time xD). Later on my friend got an master system (maybe a couple years later?) that looked the same but had alex kidd built in.
Man thank you so much for reviewing this.Downloaded it and man the castle at the end is looooong.Noticed a few glitches but this game is awesome.Music doesnt touch the original though. Will be buying a physical if I can.
I found a useful way for dealing with the ghosts that came out of every second ? box. You simply break two additional coin boxes as the game could only have 2 objects on screen from boxes at a time, so smashing an extra box will remove the ghost as it counts as an item.
Had the Master System II with Alex Kidd when I lived with my mum, when I moved into my dads house he got me another Master System II but I was gutted as it had bloody Sonic instead.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World was one of those games that really irritated me with the lack of a save function. That is one thing that really put me off consoles back in the day as I came from a home computer background where I could save a lot of games. I never finished the game completely, mainly because I got killed doing rock, paper, scissors.
My uncle allowed me to play with his Master System II for a few months, my father and I would play Alex Kidd for hours, without ever passing the crystal/ice castle. One day my uncle needed money and asked his console back, he sold it for a few coins and I never played Alex Kidd again. I don't know where he originally bought it, as it was a very rare console in Mexico, but at least my father was able to buy a few cartridges for it in the flea market.
Before i even start watching this video i just want to say i was watching a ak2 video and the description was in another language and i really wanted to know about it, and now im really excited so thanks for the video.
I got a Master system 2 for Christmas 1991, along with Sonic and Ninja... I fully intended to play Sonic all day, but AK1 was so unexpectedly good, I didn't play Sonic until Boxing day. Great, great times :)
I love Alex Kidd and grew up playing it with my friends and all, but I was also going to mention this. Japanese is much easier to read when understanding the Romanized words have a 1-to-1 corresponding sound for each letter. A is always "ah", E is always "eh", U is always "ooh", and is this case G is always the hard G.
Used to own Shinobi World back in the day, then last year I tried this one too on emulator and I was quite disappointed. Wouldn't pay too much for a copy honestly...
I think the way he should do it is make 1986 copies of the game and have them go up for pre-order. Once that amount is sold then thats it. Unless theres even more demand then he should make a second print, but there should be an indication that it is indeed a 2nd print.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World is still easily my favourite Master System game, and the first I ever played. Nice to see it get some proper love. Now, I just hope it won't take me several years to beat Miracle World 2. EDIT: Tried the ROM and it's good. Levels are a bit short and easier than the original but the design and music is lovely so it's well worth a play. As a longtime Miracle World fan, I love it.
Ah memories, I got the master system II with Alex kidd back in 1992 it was my first games console, played it for hours every day and night loved it, I have Alex kidd rom on my phone getting pretty good at it, I downloaded Alex kidd 2 rom and I'm really enjoying it, love these old retro games, thanks for the info.
@@Nostalgianerd At 5:31.. the pleasure of plug a game and... that's it... it works........... no Steam crap.. no internet authorization of the real owner (meaning the company that scam you selling you something that is not really yours)....... no need for pray for the server or company still being around for play the game in 20 or 30 years.......... do we have any new games like this lately????........ which was the last one????...... the last game we can buy and play without anyone's authorization????..... someday someone is going to have to make a website or list with the games that we can actually buy and collect for use in the future like you guys do with this ones today........
Here in Canada I missed this console. I went from many models of Atari 8 bit computers to Atari ST then quickly to Amiga 500; nevertheless, I can see your enjoyment.
Thanks for the link I love it, I got my Sega master system 2 in 1992 came with Alex kidd in meracle world, played it for hours every day, such good memories, now I have both of them in my phone. 😁
I had a Master System 1 and 2. Don't ask me why I had both. I loved Alex Kidd. For some reason as a kid (no pun intended) - I used to call it Alex the Kidd. I don't know why. Alex Kidd in Miracle World was one of my favourite games on the Master System. I spent countless hours playing it.

Being American and growing up with a NES instead, I missed out on Alex Kidd in his heyday, but I did play Enchanted Castle on the Genesis a few years later. I thought it was okay, not great. Miracle World is just flat out better in every way. Difficult, yes, but it's more responsive and it feels like most anytime you die, it's your own fault and not the fault of bad controls. Where can we purchase that beautiful Hard Copy mock-up?! I have a modified original SMS i still play sixty games from my childhood haha I would love to purchase the physical version to play on my tv!
Alex Kidd is the mascot for my buyer's remorse when I was 13. I fucking hated that game and the Master System. I should've listened to Captain N and got a NES with Mario 3. I've no idea what the hell I was thinking at the time but fuck you Alex Kidd, 27 years later and I'm still feeling the regret.

It looks really nice, I'll have to give it a try for sure! Too bad Sega never tried to make a legit sequel to Alex Kidd... Enchanted Castle was okay but it felt rushed and at times poorly designed.
I'd have gone nuts as a little girl for an Alex Kidd 2.... the adult me would foam at the moan squealing "GIMME THE ****ING THING NOW!". Young me was innocent.
HOW am I just seeing this video, had zero idea there was a fan made equal to Alex Kidd! I played the hell out of that on my SMS. I just fired up Bigbox so I could play the original before I tried the new one. Forgot how incredibly floaty the controls are, it's gonna take me weeks to beat this lol.
I will admit, I didn't beat this game till I was 16. And I seen and knew about it since I was 3-4? Toward the end of MW. You could tell it was designed to be unfair...like this Water/spike room in Jakens fort. Let's just say it was the Sonic3 barrel of it's day.
Interestingly enough, the original JP version did not include the bike song found on various levels on the original Alex Kidd as it could be heard in the English and EU versions
we got that version of the master system (master system 2 with inbuilt alex) ... i never had one, i was one of those pesky mega drive kids .... but id often go over to friends houses and play theirs. and alex kid was ......... haaaaaaaard
11:16 you could also continue on the original Alex Kidd as well. As long as you had enough cash, you could press A several times and the stage would restart with 3 lives.
Where can I get a hard copy of this game. I still have my original Master system two . I haven't played it in probably 10 years but if I remember right Xaxon was built in too .
You know you really miss a console when you actually just want to feel the pad to see if your memory remembers the feel of the d-pad and the buttons. Love that flimsy d-pad
The master system is still insanely popular here in Brazil. Even tho it's 80's tech...

Man you guys still can't afford a Mega Drive? That sucks.
BRAZIL
Eu tive um master system (Alex kidd na memória) só vir zerar muitos anos depois achava muito difícil na época!Game que mais marcou a minha infância!!!
it's because of your country's insane tariffs.
Sega was smart and outsourced production of the Master System to a Brazilian company called TecToy.
Thanks, played this a few weeks back to the end and it was really well done.

The whole Brazil/SMS thing is really weird but really cool at the same time.
Yes!, hahahaha
Oh, sorry for the error!
I think I covered this roughly in my Sega Master System Story, but I still find it weird that they called it a Master System II.
Hmm.. I got my master system x-mas 1987 (Finland) and it had snail maze. IIRC, it came bundled with the light phaser, safari hunt and hang on. 0:51 I actually had this one. Ah, the memories.
Indeed, in Europe and Brazil and Australia, the SMS was king.
Love Sega Master System 👍
Onigiri is pronounced "oh-nee-ghi-ree", hard G.

"Gee" in Japanese would be じ or ジ
Yeah but now Alex Kidd eats a hamburjer, so the point is moot.
I see what you did there... Very jood.
I think I'll just stick with "Rice triangle"
Love this game. Love the original Alex Kidd game. Love your love for the Master System.
2:14 No, that's Brock's Donuts

Nice video y done.. Alex Kidd in Miracle World was my 1st game with Master system 2 from 1989 till got it today
The original definitely had a continue option, the way you mentioned it made it sound like it was addition to Miracle World II.
Yes but was a cheat and you needed to have $200

Sean Ó Briain I also used to call it Alex The Kidd, lol.
I used to love going round my mates house to play this, it's a great game.
Amazing. I love the attention to the backgrounds. Not those plain solid colours anymore. The castle has bricks in the background. The shrubbery and clouds are in the foreground and Alex walks and flies behind them, giving more of a sense of depth, which is really nice.
Not too pleased to hear that it's harder, to be honest though. I feel the original game was just a little too hard to be enjoyed by the casual gamer. The controls just s little too imprecise for the difficulty level.
But I appreciate the effort and am genuinely excited to try this game out.
What a classic game 😁
Isn't The Enchanted Castle the only true sequel to Miracle World and in 2017 we got a sequel that sandwiches the two games.
Nice to see the Acorn Electron lurking in the background there.

Difficult, yes, but it's more responsive and it feels like most anytime you die, it's your own fault and not the fault of bad controls. Finally having context at that point made me realize that Enchanted Castle, by comparison, is WAY too "floatty" for a platformer and the combat is sluggish and delayed. PAL-M, which is what we used in Brazil, is actually 60 fps as it is fully compatible with NTSC save for the color carrier. That means we actually played the game like in the footage.
Yes, of course. Same as the original Japanese market.
One of my most fave platformers, finished it many times. This was built in to my ms1 in the uk.
I feel like Ian grasped what made the original game great (and what worked against it) so thoroughly, that I would make it a point of playing anything else he decided to sequel.
Just completed it after 30years.
I had a Master System II in the early 90's here in Brazil... Oh the nostalgia...
Nostalgia overload.... Brilliant!!!!
Awesome video man. Loved the Master System. 💯👍✌
All hail the Mighty Master System 👍
yea about that grim reaper thing ... most of my life I thought that was a walrus
Lewis Filby haha we used to call it “the sloth”. Not sure why as it moved pretty fast
Yeah I always thought of it as a Walrus. Even after reading the instruction manual and seeing it was a grim reaper ghost thing, I can't unsee a Walrus.
You're doing awesome work here.
i can relate!!!! unpacking the sega master system II, turning it on, bam! alex kid! :)
Oh man you've explained the rice triangle for the first time in my life! Always wondered what this was! Oh, great vid too :D

Great video!!
I actually had a master system 1 with Alex Kidd built in in Germany back then
Damn, when I first saw the thumbnail for this video I was hoping for something akin to the recent Wonder Boy 3 remake, rather than a ROM hack.
I still have my master system and Alex kidd (the cart) I'm currently playing through miracle world on my ps4 (psnow) lol its so great.
You know when you revisit something from when you were a kid and it ruins it.. Alex kidd is not one of those instances it's just as good now as it was then.
Where can we purchase that beautiful Hard Copy mock-up?!
I have a modified original SMS i still play sixty games from my childhood haha I would love to purchase the physical version to play on my tv!
This system was awsome along with the TurboGrafx 16 man why cant video gaming be like those days .
Just found your channel and your content amount is so massive! Prolific even. Do you sleep? Thank you for sharing with us.
Alex deserves more games. I miss the little guy so much.
hello !
How can I edit continue and life settings please ?
No hamburgers arrr , loved miracle world! Good vid Nerd
Mate, you could continue the in first one too, you held up at the game over screen and simultaneously pressed 1 & 2 until a chime sounded. :)
Alex Kidd: New Universe and Alex Kidd: Hidden Aries should be next. I personally want a "Zillion 3: Norsa Resurrection"
Greattt review - thanks for the shout out! Hope you enjoyed my music for the game. 😊
Yes. I thoroughly enjoyed every track!
Nostalgia Nerd Yay! 😊
That really is a thing of beauty.. :)
Rock/paper/scissors anyone ?

Woohoo! Master System 2!!! My Alex Kidd MS2 was bugged and we couldn't finish the last boss =(
Alex Kidd in Shinobi World is still my favorite
I will admit, I didn't beat this game till I was 16. And I seen and knew about it since I was 3-4? Toward the end of MW. You could tell it was designed to be unfair...like this Water/spike room in Jakens fort. Let's just say it was the Sonic3 barrel of it's day.
Cool video, dude you are getting close to 100K subs. I hope it happens soon. Thanks for all the cool videos.
Thanks man!
Holy crap a 2nd game to the OG! hells yeah already downloading the rom
This is cool, and i like! But the mega drive version is the official miracle world's sequel. Anyway, thanks for the video! And greetings from Brazil.
Wow, we also got it for Christmas 1991!
Neat I have a bunch of those Himalayan lamps in my house to I love the Orange Glow of them. :)
Ah my first harming experience of gaming.
Had mine built into my master system 1(1990ish, u.k )
Interestingly enough, the original JP version did not include the bike song found on various levels on the original Alex Kidd as it could be heard in the English and EU versions
we got that version of the master system (master system 2 with inbuilt alex) ... i never had one, i was one of those pesky mega drive kids .... but id often go over to friends houses and play theirs. and alex kid was ......... haaaaaaaard
The game looks good, seems to respect the original "Alex Kidd". Nice video! :)
11:16 you could also continue on the original Alex Kidd as well. As long as you had enough cash, you could press A several times and the stage would restart with 3 lives.
My Master System 1 had Alex Kidd built in. First game I played to the end.
After figuring the first jacket was set every time got to another I just remembered what they were, get the ball and will show you there choice
I got mine in the 80s, mine came with a 3D missile shooting game. When Genesis came out without the 3D I thought Sega had totally screwed themselves.
Where can I get a hard copy of this game. I still have my original Master system two . I haven't played it in probably 10 years but if I remember right Xaxon was built in too .
