Very new to MTG, that's how the algorithm brought me here. This is cool! What exactly defines premodern? Is it the card pool, the ruleset or both?
Welcome! It’s a closed format starting from 4th edition and cuts off at Scourge, which was the last set without the “modern” frame. While a lot of people (myself included) enjoy Premodern for the nostalgia and being able to play classic deck archetypes, it’s also just a very fun format with lots of room to brew and has a very health meta game with lots of viable decks! Generally it’s also proxy friendly depending on the playgroup/webcam league.
