Thanks and also for taking the time to type the comment. It's makes a difference to know I am still putting stuff together that people want to watch and like.
Just trying to figure out why we're so poor and keep some belief. If we don't beat Bristol City, we've got Leeds and West Brom after that. It could get very miserable.
OMG !! I'm writing that last game off as B'burn got us in the playoffs offs last season,,,(not that it done us much good). That must have been heart rending for you Alt having waited so long to report a win. I would rather watched a Louisiana swamp dry out than go through that again. Our passing was rougher than a snipers elbow and a hammering was on the cards the moment their 2nd went in. I can't say anything you havn't covered Alt, (and pointed out a lot more). Thanks for all you do for the fans. Loving your content. KTF 😊
Very interesting and balanced critique without torpedoing Mike Dodds or the squad. You made good points without being overly harsh. Hopefully we can finish the season well and build again in the Summer. Ha'way the lads 🇮🇪
I tried to stick to the issue I think he can improve on. I've no desire to attack him personally, he's been very loyal to us and is always picking up the mess.
Spot on analysis, as usual… Thank you! Unlike many, I had no problem with the decision to relieve Mowbray of his post. Well, *no* problem is overstating it, because he’s a lovely man and a competent second tier coach, but his limitations meant that the only real questions were when it happened and who would replace him. Unfortunately, botching the succession has meant we’ve been landed with two of nature’s number twos, and as you’ve shown, that has rather inevitably unravelled the season… The mistake Speakman (and I’m betting it was him) made with Beale was to believe that - as he, Speakman, could handle everything else - all we needed was a good coach. This demonstrates both his hubris and his failure to grasp that a talent for selection, tactics, analysis, motivation, communication, and a host of other things are still essential elements in the profile of an outstanding *Head* Coach. What we are seeing from Dodds is that he may a good coach, but he’s not a Head Coach. On Easter Monday the players demonstrated no clear understanding of what was happening to them, or why, and that confusion had to come from Dodds, unfortunately. That said, grim as it was, everyone ought to relax and remember where we’ve been! I said when we got promoted that I’d be happy to spend a few seasons consolidating, building a squad, and allowing our young players to gain experience… That hasn’t changed. The only worry now is whether Speakman has the humility to learn from his mistakes. He got lucky when Alex Neil papered over the cracks of the mistimed sacking of Johnson; this time he wasn’t so fortunate. The next appointment really, really needs to be the right one! I’m still hoping for Still.
@@altending The biggest mistake was not doing it in the summer and bringing in Farioli. They were always going to do it at some point, so that was the ideal time to do it... but they knew there'd be a backlash, and they lost their nerve. Ironically, that meant an even bigger backlash when they eventually picked entirely the wrong man to succeed him. I would've been happy to write this season off and finish just above mid-table before it began... provided I could see there'd been progression - in terms of squad-building rather than league position. The Beale appointment has scuppered that, and it makes the next appointment and the subsequent summer window absolutely crucial. I'd actually still be willing to sacrifice promotion next season in order to ensure that we're Premier League ready when we do get there.
@@altending I recollect that it came out later that TM had a performance clause in his contract that automatically extended his contract so contractually SAFC couldn't sack him (presumably without having to pay higher compensation to TM) which may have affected decision.
Yep, but will we dip into the pool of the unemployed and desperate again or actually use the data driven tracking we have talked about in the past to make a decent appointment. Sadly, I think we both know the answer to that one.
Hi Alt - We lost 5-1 to Stoke at home last season under Mowbray when we had Dan Neil as our solitary midfield defence for the back four - I wish I'd been able to erase it from my memory like you, but unfortunately it still rankles - I thought it was kamikaze when I saw team line up. Tactics can make a massive difference - I've seen plenty of games where one side's all over the other one, and a change at half time makes it go the opposite way round. We've all seen SAFC transition from nailed on relegation candidates to escape by suddenly getting top 6 in form league at times. Thanks for making this vid informative and enjoyable to watch - I didn't think it would be possible so wasn't expecting one . We just need to get a manager who's a combination of Mowbray and Mourinho (Mowbrinio) and we might be flying. KTF - Cheers - Jim
It made me more annoyed making it, so I'm glad you got some sort of enjoyment out of it. Yes, I had succeeded in erasing the drubbing by the snake from my mind. It's our equal worst since 1981 then, but after Mowbray's loss, he went on a run of form that carried us to the playoffs. No chance Dodds goes on a run of form.
@@altending Mowbray had loads of experience and an excellent record of developing young players, so he was the perfect manager for us. I'd kind of hoped they'd keep him on in some sort of young player wellness/mentor/counsellor/surrogate uncle/grandad role when his contract ended. He always used to take the blame on himself for any poor performances and never blamed players. Mowbray persisted with Ekwah compared to Beale throwing Aouchiche under the bus. I think relationship with owners soured when he realised that no matter what he did SAFC wanted to replace him with a younger/more dynamic manager in the summer, but was saved by his performance clause so decided not to take all the flak for their decisions. I'm glad you made the vid even though it was hard for you, it reminded me that we're not totally crap, just need a decent manager (easier said then done). Cheers. Jim
Excellent overview. A recurring theme in Dodds's comments is to assure us the lads are still on board. He sounds like he is trying to convince himself..He slated the players after Blackburn and there was a lot of opinion that they wanted it more than us. The players did deserve some stick but if they don't trust the game plan it will look like they aren't up for it. This stint is damaging Dodds , maybe beyond repair. Players may be young but they; 're not stupid. Wouldn't be surprised if they lose respect for Dodds as a head coach.. It;s maybe just as well for him that there;s not more senior players in the squad who might be more likely to question his seriously flawed gams plans. Not anti-Godds but how can he ever be interiem head coach again.
I hope to god we don't need him to do it again. If we sack a manager can we please be better prepared in future. what happened to all this bullshit about data monitoring of all coaches in Europe to appoint at the drop of a hat? If that were true, how did we end up with Beale?
Class video again. Just curious mate, how do you analyse games, and how did you find your tactical mind, because your attention to detail and knowledge is superb, so I always wondered how you analysed games and matches to a very high quality. Great video 👍
And also you’re right about Dodds, I hope he learns that lesson. After that 3 game stint he had after Mowbray left (WBA, Leeds and BC), he seemed to think that he was some sort of genius, and things he has tried have not come off. I think we need a good appointment next season to really lift the fans’ spirits, and get the SOL bouncing again.
Read a lot, worm around lots of stats sites and I make notes of a game during it and then rewatch it against to see if I see anything else. Then I decide what I'm going to talk about (can't fit in everything). Sometimes I see things over several games and things come to the fore and I make a note to try and focus on that in a future game and then a suitable one presents itself. Gradually, I hope I get better at it. Mostly though, all my channel is proving, is that fans don't want to be treated like idiots, we want to talk about games and analyse them, it's just no one does it or makes a programme in this way, so I thought I would, because it's what I wanted to watch and there was nothing around.
Thanks for the vote of confidence and for taking the time to write this comment. It makes all the difference to know people appreciate the time put into doing this this kind of stuff.

Already agreed to do one for Brum, so let's see when I can fir it in. Rovers were excellent btw.
If they give the job to an unemployed manager then they'll have to accept that, if they want one who's good and not desperate, you'd hope they'd be able to say, 'No, not unless I can bring my assistant'. Time will tell, they really have to get this next appointment right.
Can't believe the baseball capped spud has yet more games. Brave Trenchy, was going to spam you on the Cardiff vid about where the Blackburn one was. :)
What happened to their data analysis it’s the core principle is it not? We are totally rudderless what happened to succession planning? 😂WTF they make it up as they go along man. Great analysis as always and bang on. Nonetheless very worrying, good job we have 51 on the board.
Its clear with the Beale appointment that talk of data tracking and data powered appointments is a load of shit. There literally was no data to support that choice. I'm sure the have data analysts and I'm sure I'm wrong about some stuff, and miss a load of others. At the end of the day, no matter what the analysts say, the manager makes choices about all that data. There are multiple ways to win, its easy for me to deconstruct things after the event, but they should be better before.
Well then I declare you a superb judge. :) Thanks for the support and for taking the time to drop a comment. It matters to me to know people like what I plough my hours into.
I had successfully erased the drubbing by the snake last season. Mowbray went on a run after that game that took us to the play offs. Not a soul alive imagines we'll go on a run now.
Poor man is in an impossible situation. He can't really be expected to solve it all with fewer resources than an actual manager. I don't really blame him, but I think he can to better...and frankly for his own reputation he needs to.
Yeah, I'm probably wrong on quite a bit of it, but we're all scratching around trying to understand what is going on. I hope I didn't come across as horrible to Dodds, tried to stick to the issues. I like the guy and he's a good servant to us.
Dodds is in an impossible position. That being said, 90% of the time I see the team sheet I scratch my head. I disagree with you about his subs. Often times our bench is so thin we have youth players on it. He had no choices to choose from. Now he has options and started Roberts who hasn’t played in a month, brought Clarke on while down 4-0, and played Jobe the full 90 when he had 2 unused subs as if he can carry them over. Put Hemir or Pembele on for some minutes. All of that in one match.
I tell you what, there's no way Baath would have let in some of the goals we have this season. Defo missed him. And the sacking of Mowbray without any semblance of a plan as to what to do next was horrific.
Keeping a 30% fit Roberts on the pitch was a disgraceful use of substitutions. Apart from that I would agree. But keep him as what? Cheerleader? New boss with new staff please. If not we go back to League one.
