Just some clarification to clear up ANY confusion....Kaya's Kitchen/Market is NOT in "the heart of Honolulu." Hauula is approximately 60-90mins. drive N from Honolulu/Waikiki, depending on which direction/how fast you drive. ALL of Oahu makes up the City & County of Honolulu. The same as Los Angeles is to Burbank, as Dallas is to Fort Worth & as Brooklyn is to The Bronx...Hauula is to Honolulu...different areas/towns w/different zip codes!

Just want to add another Foodie factoid...Meat jun( sometimes listed as Meat Chun) is uniquely Hawaiian/Korean creation, not found in U.S. Mainland or Korean Korea restaurants. Owner's of Kim Chee #7 may have "introduced" Meat jun to Hawaiian culinary cuisine in 1970s but, since immigrant Koreans have been coming to Hawaii since 1900, that claim is doubtful/highly suspect. Am NOT discounting Kim Chee's claim, just that they may have been the First to mass-market meat-jun into culinary folklore.....

I trying to figure it why in the mainland I barely find any korean restaurants that offer meat jun. I honestly believe if it sells in Hawaii it will definitely sell in the mainland.

Meat Jun has been around in Korean cuisine for a long time. In Korea, we call it Yook Jun. Yook means meat. My mom made Ue Jun (fish Jun) or Yook Jun only when we had memorial services for ancestors, like new year, choosuk (kind of thanksgiving), and anniversary of ancestor’s death. I think that was due to poverty ? - fish and meat were too expensive for us in 70s. Restaurants in US rarely sell this dish; I am wondering if the reason is that it is not as popular as kim chee jun or spring onion seafood jun. Recent years Kwangju in Junla province has been famous for it after some celebrities mention about Yook Jun in that area.
So no, the owner of Kim Chee is not the inventor of meat jun/Yook jun.

You are welcome. I am watching a few UA-cam vids on Oahu for my family will visit in a few months. We went a few years ago and mainly stayed near hotel because the kids were little. We want to explore real food (not MacDonald near by 😊). So thank you so much for your video!!!
