To be honest, for someone as wild minded as Dante even as a kid before the trauma, I would think Dante would actually become a crazed, unrelenting and cruel being if he embraced his demonic side. He would've murdered many in gruesome ways and probably have many children with many women, the ones that survive.
Vergil has a very reserved and discipline personality as a kid. He may not be as wild as canon Dante and might actually establish a professional demon hunting shop with proper management. He might actually start an orphanage for poor orphanned children who lost their parents in demon attacks. Imagine that.
We won't ever know the answer unless Capcom does some weird reboot that restarts from the tragedy. Maybe some weird spin-off manga or short game.

Him becoming obsessed with vengeance, perhaps to the point where he decides to exterminate every demonic being, half- or otherwise, is also a possibility.
Him rejecting his demonic side, and forcing it to become a tool, I could see.
Imagine DMC3, but with Dante facing Mundus and becoming his slave knight. He hated the fact he is related to Sparda, afterall.
Both Dante and Vergil were almost pre-destined by their experiences.

I could also imagine this AU Vergil being saddened by Dante’s descent into demonhood. His little brother, left alone while his mum was killed without any chance of mercy.
This Vergil could still hold guilt from that day, honing his skills to make sure that’ll never happen to anyone else. His might, his power, will be used in revenge and perhaps one day bring his brother home.
This is all just a guess

  • @IccyTheOne
    @IccyTheOne 3 роки тому +549

The line Vergil says about their positions being switched is one of the best and most subtle ways of showing TREMENDOUS growth and development for his character. Vergil never gave a damn about how anyone else felt toward his quest for power, now he's considering that nothing was set in stone, and in other circumstances, things could be different. The only time he showed remorse before this was when he fought Dante at the end of DMC 3, he cared for his little brother and didn't want him to become trapped in the demon world. In DMC 5, when he contemplated alone, I thought to myself "wow", because that had done so much for his character in such a small way. Great storytelling.

    • @Venneroth
      @Venneroth 3 роки тому +50

My thoughts exactly. This may be the first introspection, the first re-evaluation, he's ever done. Remember before DMC 3's final fight, when Dante tried getting through by talking him down? Vergil lashed out in a rage. Our blue boy has grown. I almost regret Nero intervening, because I would love to see what conclusions Vergil would have come to without the outside push.

He also put some thought into how Dante's goals and beliefs were shaped by humanity as well as Dante considered humanity worse than demons since they lust for the same power that the demons had and Sparda sealing the world was denying humanity the privileges of power. He seen what Arkham do to obtain's his dad's powers, manipulating him to challenge Dante to a duel, killing his wife and tried offering his daughter. Demons in DMC may be spreading the chaos but the humans are the ones to make the first call.

My assumption/theory regarding their lives being swapped goes as follows: Vergil would be very open in letting people/enemies know that he is a son of sparda, still embracing his demonic heritage in a sense but honoring his father's legacy as a protector of humanity. I speculate that Vergil would still feel that desire for greater power as the memory of their mother's death would haunt him but it would be more as a motivator rather than an all consuming desire. Vergil would travel the world to locations where Sparda has known relevance like Fortuna and ends up conceiving Nero after meeting Nero's mother in his travels and actually raises him as his son and a descendant of Sparda. Essentially, Vergil gets to live out his life but it's more so in the shadow of his father than his own image.
Dante I believe would not turn completely evil; but he would become considerably more distant and cold. He would retain his rebellious nature, his smart mouth, and his general attitude and disposition as we know him but he would not give an actual f*** about anything or anyone; including Vergil. Dante would become a cynic, and a bit of a nihilist. He would never be able to form any close relationships because he holds that memory of losing their mother and by extension; that feeling of abandonment and loneliness close to his heart. Vergil is the only person Dante could turn to or talk about it but at the same time, Vergil is the walking reminder of both his greatest pain and his own inability to do anything to save her so he tries to avoid Vergil and his family like a plague.
That's at least how I invision it. Great video though! I love the in depth analysis of their characters.

This is a really fun topic to explore. From what we've seen, their personalities have been the same since childhood in that Dante is more carefree while Vergil is more collected. As you stated in the video, studies of identical twins have the result of them being the same and also turning out different when separated. They could go either way, but here's my take on all this...
I don't think that their personalities would switch at all. What I think is that they'd be the same as they are, but softening on some parts while becoming more stubborn in others. In Dante's case, being the more carefree and "happy" of the two, if he'd been the one who had lived for a decade thinking his family had been slaughtered, I'd wager he would be really hurt on the inside. I do say he'd embrace his demonic heritage far more than he did normally because it was that which saved him from death that day. However, I don't think he'd discard his humanity. In the way that Vergil says that might controls everything, and that without it you cannot protect anyone would probably be Dante's guiding mantra. Survivor's guilt would be Dante's defining trait in regards to his endeavor for power after that day. He'd be a Batman, basically, striving for more strength in order to keep that tragedy from ever repeating. I'd bet he ends up with many failed relationships because of his deep seated fear of losing those he's come to love. Unlike what happened in DMC3, if he found out Vergil was alive he'd probably break down into tears like a baby with joy because at least his brother was not lost that day. Not for one second do I think Dante would try to open the way into the demon realm.
The line about "Sparda's power divided into two" is misleading. It isn't meant to be taken literally. Twins are copies, not one person split in half. If that were the case we'd have 2' tall people who are just a torso and another who are a pair of legs. Demon genetics are something we can only clumsily speculate on, but they are both sons of Sparda and have the same potential to match or surpass their father. They are half demon, not half people.
Vergil's story would be the one that changes drastically imo. Vergil being saved by Eva and then hearing her die would temper his hatred/apathy towards humanity greatly. I think that instead of relentlessly seeking power, he'd grow up with thoughts of his mother and her sacrifice keeping him noble and considerate. Humanity is what led to him surviving, and he'd keep those values close to his core to honor Eva. I think he'd seek out power to prevent tragedies as I said of Dante, but not to the extent of canon Vergil. Meeting Dante again when they were a bit older would be a warm reunion, not him basically disregarding his brother and fighting him with the intent to kill. Likely there'd be a time where they were together again and getting to know one another all over again, realizing they aren't so different and compromising in their beliefs. They'd both seek strength, but to protect, not to stave off feeling weak at all costs. Honestly, it'd be a much happier timeline.
    That's just my take though.
    They'd both love pizza too.

Based on how he used to force Vergil to spar with him when they were kids, he’d use that as a twisted sort of motivation for the Temen-ni-gru. Here’s some nuances I want to mention could happen because of the swap. Could, but not definite:
    - Vergil would be found first and hidden in the closet while Dante is playing by himself outside.
    - Eva’s speech to Vergil would be slightly different because she knows her sons. She knows what to say. She would tell him to be strong and start a new life, but tell him something else. Don’t know what, but something. Dante was probably closer to his mother than Vergil so would have felt like all the blame is with Vergil for letting her die since she saved him first and she died afterwards.
    - Vergil might soften his stance on human weapons since power isn’t everything to him. He might even get a tanto knife or a set of throwing knives or something instead of Summoned Swords since he can channel demonic energy in them and wasn’t really that fond of firearms in the first place. Dante would likely go for the most powerful guns he can find, demonic guns included.
    - Vergil would eat a more varied diet than Dante, but indulge in whatever his favorite food is on occasion. Dante would still eat and drink whatever he wants.
    - Vergil would still visit Fortuna for information, but under different pretenses. Maybe Nero might or might not have happened with a father in the picture? Who can say for sure.
    - Vergil might dress slightly different, more casual than he normally would but Dante might dress more wild.
    - I think Vergil would be a Devil Hunter that goes solo and keeps his operations mobile as opposed to a single shop. Who’s to say he won’t have a shop, but multiple branches? Dante might still take on contracts, but more as an infamous mercenary kind of deal.
    - The brothers would still fight, but not in the same way as they did before. They always fought in their childhood and do like a good fight time to time.
    - Vergil would prefer to walk or use the Yamato to travel while Dante would still use a motorcycle. He could own one or steal it, doesn’t matter.

WARNING: SPOILERS ABOUT Devil May Cry 5 : Special Edition.
The Ending of Vergil's campaign in DMC5:SE suggested both siblings had different relationships with their parents. They mentioned how Vergil cried when Eva got mad, while Dante did so when Sparda raised his voice. It's unclear whether that was an isolated incident or if that was the norm. But the fact they had that specific recollection from a distant past might indicate that's their strongest impression of each other from way back then. It would not be surprising if their upbringing was different from the start. I also heard somewhere that Sparda had picked Vergil to be his true successor, training him from childhood to take the mantle of the Human World's protector, while Dante was largely left to Eva's care. Which is interesting as the mangas show Dante was the one who developed a more aggressive personality (and was the source of most of the young sibling bickerings) while Vergil seemed to want a more peaceful existence.

I believe if their positions were switched that day it might have a major difference. Cause though Dante has always been the rebellious one, he was also the wises if the two. If he survives against the Demons attack using he’s Demonic Powers that day. He may have still value he’s Humanity and only saw he’s powers as a necessity. Even after being unable to save Eva he would have still value he’s Humanity cause Dante name stands for enduring in Italian. Dante knows how to channel he’s anger, cause he’s no Kratos. Vergil on the other hand after seeing he’s mother giving her life for him may have convinced him to embrace he’s Humanity. Thus making the twins first reunion a warm embrace for two lost brothers in arms. Rather than a twisted brotherly dual. At least that’s what I want to believe.

Here is my take/notes on the "Switched Fate Alternative Universe":
Vergil would hate himself for being to weak to protect his family, but also honour his mother's sacrifice by training to become strong enough to never lose his life to any threat and avoid making her sacrifice in vain. He'll dedicate his life in investigating the reason and culprit of the attack on his family, what leads him into the various legends of his father Sparda and to the conclusion that the leader of the demon world might be the one responsible. He'll understand that his family were victims of an 2000 years old grudge against his father and that the entire demon world will not stop until he and all future descendents of Sparda are dead.
His final conclusion will be, that he and his own descendents will never live in piece from the demons and that he needs to become powerful enough to take the entire demon world and stop the circle of vengeance.
Dante's path is dependent of the "IF" he survives and "IF" he looks for his family. You see Dante showcased demonic powers in the dmc3 manga before being stabbed with the rebellion in dmc3 game, but if Dante can't activate those in the time of need, he could die. So in the case that he DID survive, he would look for his family in the chance that they might still be unharmed. If he DOESN'T find his family or look for them, then three emotions from this trauma will define his character: Hatred against the demons responsible for the death his family, Greef for said loss and attachment to his own Power that allowed him to survive.
Growing up, the trauma and emotional stress will cause Dante to embrace his power with arrogance and disrespect everything and everyone he sees as weak, because "Only the strong survive in this world, only those with Power are FREE to do and live as they please", a Mantra that will determine his ideology. To embrace his power, Dante would seek to challenge the strongest demons he can find and only interact with humans who are "Strong enough to do something for themselves", living a live with the goal to become "The strongest". His character would be a fusion of Reboot Donte & Vegeta in an Anime-Gang-Leader-Way.
His final conclusion would be, that in order to become/proof he is "The Strongest", he must beat down the one who stands "At the top" of the demon world.
Now this is the point where the brothers paths are destined to cross because of their somewhat similar goals. It will be a shock for both but their interaction will make clear how far apart the have changed. Dante will remark his brother for his progress, but still see himself superior. Vergil being the reasonable one, will suggest that the work together since the entire demon world has targeted both them, but Dante will arrogantly decline, stating "I can take all those scumbags on my own!" and he's "Doing pretty good all by myself, didn't need help back there and sure as hell I'm not going to need it now!".
This conflict will separate the brothers again, making the start of their Character Arc, where both brothers race against each to reach the ruler of the demon world first and will end with both brothers accepting that they have better chances together and learning how to work as team, while keeping their rivalry alive.
The fight against Mundus will go on depending of, if the brothers possess the Force Edge and in that story is where Arkham comes into play:
If Arkham manages to convince one of the brothers to unseal the Temen-ni-Gru (If DANTE, than with the promise that the Sparda will make him "The strongest"; If VERGIL, than with insurance that the Force Edge will help him defeat the demons once and for all) and convince the other brother to intervene (If VERGIL, than to stop Dante from causing chaos; If DANTE, than to stop stop Vergil from becoming stronger than him).
What makes this part tricky is that after investigating his father's heroic dids, Vergil might embrace both of heritages in honour of his father's heroism and his mother's sacrifice, thus allowing him to reach Devil Trigger at some point, but if Dante hasn't figured out how to unlock Devil Trigger with the Rebellion, he'll have an disadvantage.
And here is where we might face a problem: the original story Dante and Vergil had to learn to fully embrace the part of them they neglected and their swords where both metaphorical representations and keys for their evolution. Vergil learned to understand his human and demon sides as V & Urizen and Dante learned to accept the power he inherited from his father and as a result they both gained their ultimate form, the Sin Devil Trigger. But in this alternative universe, it's hard to imagine them acquiring this evolution the same way or at all. Vergil would have no reason to separate himself with the Yamato and Dante would have no reason to stab himself with the Rebellion, so in this alternative universe, Sin Devil Trigger might be unlikely to happen. In this universe Vergil learns to embrace his human side out of love and his demon side out of respect and admiration. Dante embraces his Power, not the source of it, so he will not come to explore and understand his demonic powers or his human emotions like he did in the original universe.
But here is where my "Sparda Fan Theory" may work: What if Sparda used to arrogantly look down on humans because of their weakness, but then learned how their emotions pushed them forwards giving them unexpected strength and what started as curiosity, became respect for them. And he awoke to justice in their defence after experiencing these emotions himself?
This may work for Alternative Dante as well: By mirroring his fathers evolution, Dante gets reminded of the warmth of love and finds his way back to compassion as the story progresses, maybe through people he meets and become his friends or by gaining attachment to a woman.
This way the brothers Character Arcs mirror each as the "Conscious and unconscious embracing of their halves". Vergil being the "Conscious one" and Dante embracing his human attachments and demonic powers becoming the "Unconscious one".
Now back to the point of the Story at the Temen-ni-Gru: If in their first meeting Vergil successfully defeats Dante, Arkham gets exposed and killed by either Vergil or Lady and the Force Edge might stay unsealed in the Demon World or taken by Vergil because he might need it to defeat Mundus; but if Dante defeats Vergil in their first meeting, Dante gets betrayed by Arkham and the Story goes similar to the original where the teamed up to defeat Arkham, giving a glimpse of what the can achieve together. The brothers will then proceed to determine woth has the right to wield the Force Edge with a fight.
This is a big turning point because there are a lot of "What ifs" from here on and they can be summarised in:
    "Which brother will win?"
"Will Mundus attack the brothers, while they are weakened?"
"Will the brothers retreat back into the human world?"
"Will Dante stay behind in the Demon World to face Mundus?"
"Will Vergil use his change to defeat Mundus once and for all?"
"Has Dante finally refound attachment to someone else at this point?"
There is also an scenario where Dante decides to stay behind in the Demon World to fight demons for eternity and Vergil mourning this decision in front of Lady and making her say the "Even a Devil may cry" line...
    ...But...
The worst case scenario is Dante becoming Nelo Angelo and Vergil looking for a way to return to the underworld, the best case scenario is both brothers defeating Mundus and proving themselves, that they are at their strongest and basically unstoppable fighting together. But their rivalry would most likely make them challenge each other from time to time back in the human world.
Now with their vengeance completed Lady and Vergil become allies, Dante travels the human world and whenever something big is happening, like Argosax's resurrection or the return of the "Order of the Sword", the brothers will be involved and their rivalry will make everything difficult, but always strengthening their bond even further.
Thank you for reading till the end.
If you disagree with something, feel free to point out your argument.
    Good evening everyone.

Stability is the healthier side of power and control. Despite the tragedy, Vergil holds on to the foundation that kept him grounded i.e. his mother and the importance of family. Having that motivation is his drive to do what he does with clarity. On the other hand, I do believe Vergil would retain his resentment toward not only Dante but maybe towards his mother because of the expectations and responsibilities that goes with him being the older sibling. It’s bad enough he’s cleaning up his father’s mess now there’s Dante. He’s supposed to be the more ‘mature and responsible one’ looking out for his brother. I also think there’s an underlying jealousy Vergil has towards Dante for not having to deal with such pressures. Vergil is aware of these feelings but he suppresses them. He might be a little afraid to voice them because it makes him uncomfortable. Even though he’s an honorable guy, Vergil has a problem with duty.
Now on to Dante, he would still be the jovial wild child but, also would be cynical, bitter, violent and scornful. (If we’re going by how hard the tragedy effected him like it did Vergil.) He’d scoff at the words ‘love’ & ‘family’ and pretty much will insult everything and everyone that puts stock into it. It’s a joke to him. He wears his heart on his sleeve and cares not what others think of him. He still likes to play games but doesn’t like to feel cornered. He hates it, because it reminds him of the night of the tragedy. Concerning his views of his mother, Dante is very much aware that realistically, there wasn’t much Eva could do because she was human. He probably would call her a fool for trying to look for him. He’d laugh saying love or family didn’t save him, his demon did. Dante fully embraced his demon because he needed it. He had to. Denying it would be silly. Difference between Hypothetical Dante and Canon Vergil, is that Dante doesn’t want power because of inferiority, he wants it simply because it’s there. He doesn’t fully discard his humanity, just the aspects he deemed useless. Despite knowing Eva possibly wouldn’t be able to find him, the child in Dante still carries the hurt and impression that she abandoned him.
So if the positions were switched, I think the dynamic between the brothers would be more emotional because they are both in touch with their humanity more freely.

Dante uses the Yamato to slice a hole in dimensions.
    Dante:
    Thank you, dead weight.
    Dante leaves.
    Vergil:
Nero. You need to leave. Now.
    Nero-:
Like hell, father. That bastard stole my arm.
    Vergil:
    You don't understand, my son.
    Nero:
What is it? You think I'm weak? You can shove that-
    Vergil:
    That's not the case, son!
    Nero:
    What is it then?!
    Vergil:
    He's my brother!
    Nero:
    ... What?
    Vergil:
I suspected as such when I first made contact with him but I didn't think anything about it. I thought he had died when our mother, your grandmother, did. Then he transformed like your grandfather in our last fight. And I was certain. He's your uncle. Now, I need to stop him. But I can't have you hurt in the process.
    Vergil walks away.

Can't wait to see part 2, but here's a tidbit I hope gets included in your analysis. Sparda's personality was apparently an even mix between Dante's and Virgil's, specifically that he was rebellious like Dante (which to me means he just didn't care much for social conventions) but levelheaded like Virgil. I think we can take this to mean that to a certain degree, Demon genetics carry a little more weight when determining the pyschological development of offspring. I say this, because if the egg had never split to form twins, it's reasonable to assume the hypothetical "Dargil" would be much closer in overall personality to their father. The fact that had the egg not split, the child would have inherited Sparda's full power, also supports this idea.
So knowing that at least these two traits are inherited genetically to some degree, I think Hypothetical-Dante's rash nature would be more exaggerated, but rather than try to rationalize his trauma the way Virgil did, we'd probably end up with a character very similar to -and I really cringe to say it- the DmC Dante but perhaps not not quite that bad. He would definitely be more vulgar and dismissive of people, but I don't think he'd necessarily end up with a superiority complex, or be likely to actively seek to increase his power. Hypothetical-Dante would be riding his own hype train for sure, but rather than believe he needs to scramble up the demon food chain, he would probably believe he's already at the top...and he wouldn't really be wrong, ESPECIALLY if we assume that he still gets Rebellion. Being more intouch with his Demonic Heritage, he's way more likely to put two and two together on how the Yamato and Rebellion reflect one another much sooner than Canon-Dante, and would probably have access to SDT for most of his adulthood, rather than only achieving it in his 40's.
Hypothetical-Vergil would honestly likely have much more of a change than Dante. His levelheadedness, and tendency to rationalize his experiences would probably mean that he would likely respect his mother's wish for him to stay hidden for longer than Dante did. I don't even necessarily think Hypethetical-Virgil would willingly go into Demon Hunting as a business, and is much more likely to end up having a more typical "Hero's Journey" character arc.

I don't think that power inherited from a demon would be cleanly split between the two. That line he includes is more of a thematic one in that the two sons are like the two halves of Sparda - one who enjoys his strength but remains humble like Dante, but the level headedness and willingness to see things through like Vergil, like you said in your opening statement.
It's something strange to think of, but say a man is a musician and a painter. If his twin sons inherit his talent, would it be an even split? Would one be a proficient painter while the other is a great musician with absolutely zero crossover, or would they both be mediocre at both things, having inherited "only half" of their father's strengths?
Clearly Dante has far surpassed Sparda by the time of DMC5, by a mile. Vergil has as well.

    • @azerik92
      @azerik92 3 роки тому +4

@@magnawaves The thing is you can interpret "evenly dividing his power" to mean one of two things, and this applies to your talent analogy as well.
The first and in my opinion most likely interpretation in the case of DMC, is that each twin is genetically predisposed towards a specific aspect of Sparda's power. In your talent analogy this would equate to each twin having a natural inborn affinity to one of the two arts. This doesn't mean in either scenario that the twins are limited to that which they have a genetic predisposition for, but it would mean that aspects which more closely aligned with their inheritance would come to them much easier.
The second interpretation, is that rather than the aspects of Sparda's power, The line refers to the quantifiable measure of his power. Now I'm sure to some degree that with demonic genetics this might be the case, after all as magical beings demons are born with a certain amount of innate power, just as the genetics of humans give them advantages and disadvantages in life. Because this is always true to a certain degree This is what I meant by the idea that demon genetics carry more weight than human genetics. Purely demonic beings likely have a base amount of power that they are born with, which increases both as a function of time and as a function of usage just like the development of human talents: which is to say I don't think pure blooded demons ever really have to train a day in their lives simply because The natural environment of hell would leads to constant usage of one's power, which means there is likely a genetic upper limit which is why so many demonic artifacts are focussed on increasing power in some form or another: simply put I believe the power of a demon stagnates after a certain point, unless they seek external sources for power.
So I suppose the answer to the question is really that it's a little bit of both, but that the nature of demons suggests the first interpretation to be a much more defining aspect. I think Virgil's and Dante's genetic predispositions are what determined which sword they inherited from Sparda, but in terms of the measure of their power, I think they probably started off considerably much weaker than Sparda even would have been in his youth, but because they are half human, there is no genetic upper limit that they reach purely as a function of time: in essence the measure of their power is much more strongly determined by frequency of use but they still retain some level of overtime power gain, as well as the ability to draw power from external sources.

    • @azerik92
      @azerik92 3 роки тому +6

@@magnawaves to break that wall of text down to a more bare bones message, power is an aggregate of both inborn talent and skill developed from repetition, so the "power"inherited in halves by each twin, refers to their natural predispositions towards aspects of their father's natural abilities.
I also think Nero is actually a really good example to prove my thinking correct. Since he is not a twin son of Sparda, we have a much more defined set of evidence. Nero's innate power is an externalization of his demonic side, which is probably why the way his power manifested when using the Yamato is a literally full second body. Nero's natural ability is to literally wield his power like a weapon, literally separating it from his main body. We can see aspects of this in Virgil's power such as the summon swords, so externalization of power is likely one of the genetic traits passed on from Sparda, And this is why the Yamato has the power to separate things.

    • @magnawaves

@@azerik92 I agree with what you're saying. There are many ways of going about it and it's an awesome discussion well worth going into, and I agree that we can't really know for certain the way a demon's power works through inheritance. I saw some people in the comments literally taking it as Dante and Vergil being 50/50 of Sparda and I wrote my own wall of text about the potential what if topic of the video, but that's why I was clarifying that taking it too literally doesn't sound right.

Something I’ve been constantly thinking about since DMC5 is how V is the hypothetical human version of Vergil, the version of Vergil with no demonic heritage or influence. V and Vergil are very similar, their stoic nature, intellect, and subtlety sassy attitude, but the thing is DMC5 makes a point to show that V could be viewed as a “weakling”. He’s fragile, cautious, and has a genuine fear of death. This is a direct contrast to Vergil who is extremely power hungry and would never allow himself to be viewed as a weakling. We know Vergil’s obsession with power stems from his demonic heritage and his ideals of taking what’s rightfully his, embracing his demonic heritage. V doesn’t have this lust for power, because he’s the Vergil with no demonic influence.
Compare this to Dante, who contrasts Vergil by understanding his demonic heritage and is instead humbled by it to some degree, choosing instead to be outwardly friendly to humans and becoming a complete goofball because he understands the restraint he must have with his demonic power, and the purpose it gives him. This begs the question, what would the purely human version of Dante be like? If V is Vergil without the lust for power and is a fragile weakling because of this, then the purely human version of Dante would have the same rambunctious and disinterested attitude without being humbled or down to earth. The human version of Dante hypothetically could be an overly rebellious nihilistic possibly even violent jerk, not caring for humanity as Dante does and instead is selfish and self indulgent.
    What am I getting at?
The Reboot. Donte/DMC Reboot Dante is what Dante would be like without his demonic heritage humbling him
If V is the intelligent but weak human version of Vergil, Donte/DMC reboot Dante is like the rebellious but selfish and overly indulgent human version of Dante

I really loved this analysis!!! This also furthers the questions that are posed by William Blake's poetry. For example, how Dante would deal with his feelings of wrath and anger (should they arise from being abandoned the way Vergil was) would depend his sharing of those feelings, or isolation as a result of them. Blake's A Poison Tree (where "and it grew both day and night, till it bore an apple bright" came from) illustrates these two scenarios. "I told it not, my wrath did grow" describes the anger and fury that festered in Vergil's solitude, following his trauma, all the way up to his consumption of the Qliphoth fruit (fruit of the Poison Tree). "I told my wrath, my wrath did end", however, would fit Dante much better, as he grew up with a dependency on his older brother and mother. Wild and adventurous as he may be, he'd still inevitably depend on others to fill the hypothetical void of trauma within him, as he grew to expect. It's similar to how he grew fond of Trish even after her betrayal, as he would come to understand her unfortunate situation eventually. In a similar way, he'd likely hope for others to understand him as well as he "told his wrath".
I did a comprehensive analysis of this and many other Blake poems and their connections to Devil May Cry 5 on my channel recently, if you are interested in how "Earth's Answer", "Infant Sorrow" and "Infant Joy" fit in. Great video and research on the twin studies, can't wait for part 2.

I had a bit of a headcanon on this. I read the Devil May Cry novel, and that had a few ideas in it i liked, and would apply to this AU idea. One is that Vergil would be wearing very simple, but smart clothes, like the green suit he wore as 'Gilver', but might have a firearm like a shotgun as backup, realising some demons have developed immunity to blades and needing to be prepared. He would be researching the Occult, seeking power but to bring peace instead of strength. He would be honorable in combat, but rather awkward in conversations for mundane things like talking with Lady, etc.
Dante I'm not too sure on, honestly. Maybe growing a bizarre arrogance/disgust for humans, a kind of wild rage like Rekka from Fire Force (the 'My Stars!' guy), because he's lasted this long, so he has overconfidence? It'd make sense if in 3, their first confrontation is what humiliates/upstages him, and he gains an ACTUAL anger/hatred for Vergil.

That makes me think how Nero would STILL be Vergil's son and Vergil would actually have a family...Vergil and Dante both knew their father left but for some reason, we all know that Dante doesn't likes Sparda very much. Vergil would be stuck with what happened then and try to investigate even after years (and eventually end up in Fortuna lol) (let's note that Vergil had a thought that his mother loved Dante more than him before the events which took their life) Dante would probably think that he was unlucky enough to lose everything instead of thinking that he was left alone to die. He'd go for avenging the death of his parents instead of going power hungry...but he'll definitely embrace his demonic side more. When he runs into Vergil, he'll probably try fighting him to death, but then eventually ask him to join his quest to kill Mundus.
But Dante went through a lot of pain in the process of reaching here...which will have a different effect on him and probably make all the bs I just said all horribly wrong.

See, I (and clearly many more in the comments) feel like it's important to factor in the differences in development each son of sparda had BEFORE the trauma into how they develop afterwards.
Vergil is clearly introverted, loves literature and poetry, and is a calm, reserved person.
Dante is still loud, boorish, energetic, extroverted, and witty.
I don't actually have the time to think on this too much right now (wanted to make this comment before I forgot tbh), but my gut instinct is that:
Dante would probably be a callous, cruel, and cynical a**hole who often mocks others for failing in life, and even mocks people for dying. Not dissimilar to his worst qualities in DMC3, just... exaggerated, and very much focused on keeping himself alive and ahead of the game. A cynical realist type.
Vergil would be an honourable, considerate and thoughtful, taking on traits comparable to a noble knight or samurai, which is rather too easy to imagine, frankly. He honestly might even come across as a fantasist who believes in things like a truly just world where heroes defeat villains eventually... except he's real, and powerful enough to actually BE that person.

Honestly when it comes to Dante, I feel like his response to the trauma would be to try and shoulder everything on his own. He wouldn't be inherently evil, but it's clear just from Visions of V that because Vergil was 'older,' Dante usually got his way and there were likely no feelings of resentment that could be twisted by nobody coming to save him during the attack.
Dante very clearly wanted to be around Vergil/his-family too, so I imagine the *big* big problem would be him taking out the demons and running into the house to try and find his family and save them (even if he is a kid,) and coming across his Mother's dead body, something which Vergil didn't even bother with trying to look for (because he thought she abandoned him.) If he found that, I think he'd blame himself for running away from the house when Vergil didn't want to play, and even more violently reject his demonic heritage than his normal DMC counterpart, or go all in and try to become some sorta demon that lives in his brother's shadow, to make up for his "mistake" that cost them their family.

Me: "Let´s find out which of the fandom theories will be near to be true"

Excellent analysis of this topic! I really appreciate that you didn't lean towards one side or the other, and mentioned the differences between them both in personality and experiences with Eva, which is to me a very important factor in how they face their subsequent experiences. Excited about part two!

well, it's important to remember that each one of the twins got a very different memento from their father, in the form of Yamato and Rebellion.
The former being a key to unseal the demon world, which possibly gave Vergil more of a motivation to cause the events in Devil May Cry 3 and so on, while Rebellion wouldn't have that power.
which could lead both of them to completely different personalities, no?

My question is, if Nero shows up is his Dante's kid or is he still Virgil's son?

    • @doleofdolonia8859
      @doleofdolonia8859 3 роки тому

Depending on the personality, Dante may or may not actually be a cruel playboy who would do horrible shit if he embraced his demonic side. Maybe having multiple children from multiple women. Would be an interesting dynamic.

    • @kelnhide
      @kelnhide 3 роки тому +8

Nero would still be Vergil's kid, BUT; and that's a big but, he wouldn't be able to meet Kyrie, since Vergil would be overprotective of Nero.

@@doleofdolonia8859 Dante could definitely in his journey alone just straight up have multiple people with the sparda blood, but like Nero they could all be dormant,
Nero could still be left at the door of an orphanage as a baby, therefore, living the life with Kyrie and credo like before, only his abilities may be different.
Possibly inheriting the broken Rebellion for awhile until Dante returns

kelnhide Nero's personality would be totally different, starting for the fact that he would be raised by his biological family, and I like to imagine Vergil as a overprotective and strict father, I totally see Vergil putting Nero on spar at the first time he raised a sword

    • @AlecEburhard

Would Nero even exist? Think about it. If Vergil had a child with a different woman (because what are the chances he'll meet and hook up with the exact same woman in the canon universe?), would that be Nero? Different mother, different DNA. Also, his name likely wouldn't be Nero. Vergil and the different woman would likely give him a different name. In fact, maybe Vergil would have a daughter instead of a son.

Real question from this video, In this alternate reality... Who is Nero’s Father? And how would this hypothetical situation affect him?

    • @uckbritley1305
      @uckbritley1305 3 роки тому +4

Vergil is still Neros father no matter once. If Dante banged fortuna nun instead of Vergil, the resulting kid wouldnt be Nero since Dantes DNA is separate from Vergils.

This channel has my two favorite topics: VideoGames and Psychology, I really love your videos and learning about psychological topics from characters I really admire, such as Nero, and really interesting such as Dante and Vergil, I would really like to make my thesis about the flow and how can it manifest in real life.

Why overthinking it?... if they swap they turn into lilo and stitch :,)...
Dante by nature the more impulsive manical laughing alien(demon ) trying to destroy shit for fun
Virgil the by nature more calm bookworm who deals with his brothers shit and scolding him with "ohana means family" ... :,)
