Nice to see you doing some Cuban spots! Couple of food notes: Yuca is Cassava root and the flour from it is used to make both tapioca and boba. The fried rice you had is the Cuban take on Chinese egg-fried rice -- Havana used to have the second largest Chinatown in the Western Hemisphere (only the one in San Francisco was bigger) and to this day Cuban's are still wild about fried rice. Your buddy's "brown rice" is something called congri which is white rice cooked in the broth of soupy black beans which turns the rice that dark color. The meat he got is almost certainly ropa vieja (or "old clothes" because of the shredded texture). It's shredded beef cooked in a tomato base called sofrito. Plantains are related to bananas (they're the big honking banana looking things that you passed in the bodega) -- if you cook them when they're ripe they're sweet and if you cook them when they're green they're savory. The little match-stick potatoes Ryan got with the sammy are the classic cuban take on fries. Great review and, again, awesome that you're featuring a Cuban place! ¡Buen provecho!
I live in the Highlands and cut through Mall Rd all the time but have never noticed this place lol. Will definitely have to stop and try some of those awesome dishes.
Man Barry where do you start in that place! That was the most mouthwatering place that you have been to. I watched this at the rehab hospital where my 90 year old mother-in-law is at. I started chuckling actually I was laughing. Natural noise of munching down the blue crab and I was waiting for a seagull sound and it happened! It all looked delicious. I had beef tongue street tacos last night and I was throwing out double snapping turtles of my own. As always it was great seeing our friend Ryan and the eclaires he got looked to good to eat! Thanks buddy great watching you guys as always!!
Nice steam shovel scoop on that shredded beef by Ryan! Didn't that paella need some hot sauce? Surprised you hung with the mafia back in the day Barry! Well you made me hungry again!! Thanks!
I have eaten there several times and everything is good. I can't pronounce some the items on the menu but I sure can recommend anyone looking to grab a really good. Plate lunch that you could eat on later in the day. To stop by you will not be disappointed. Great review as always.
This place looks awesome and thank you so much for the review. I think you and Ryan are the best reviewers around. I will definitely be visiting this place and I did not know it was even there. Thank you again
I am from the NYC area, but I must say that Louisville has it going on, particularly when it comes to food. You have put the food from Louisville on the map.
I am glad you enjoyed Cuban food! Just for your info: (Español) -Barbacoa/Ropa Vieja -Yuca/Cassava (not a potato at all). -Brown Fried Rice/Arroz Moro or Congrí -Paella is definitely a Spanish dish, but there are some variations out there. Hey, you did good👍
Barry, You never cease to amaze me and bring out the laughter in me. You’re one of a kind. I sometimes I wonder how you don’t chip or crack a tooth, especially the big bones & shell. I had to get a crown bitting into an English Muffin! lol… I would try something there. It’s a compliment saying this was one of the best. Glad to see Ryan with you today. I like the animal sounds so turn it up higher for those trolls! The ending with your beautiful pup was hilarious!
Best way to recognize an awesome restaurant, deli etc that serves cuisine other than American is to look for the establishment that has a lot of people of that ethnicity. When I pass by a Mexican , Chinese , Cuban etc restaurant I always stop at those that are full of the same ethnicity even if I’m the only country boy gringo in there. If a Cuban restaurant is full of Cubans or other Hispanic people, it’s authentic and awesome… I don’t hesitate to stop.
I picked up a meal to go Thursday around 3:15 pm , they were out of fried rice, the Food was outstanding, will return on Saturday, to get my favorite dish.
Hey Barry we love your channel. You always say you ain't stingy but you hardly ever offer you special guests any of your food. As much food and plenty plates that you get would you please consider offering(as a regular occurrence) your guests on your videos a taste of each of your food items. Then we could also get more info and opinions on the food in the videos. Id love to see that in all future videos that have guests. Thanks for considering it. Love ya Barry!
I've been binge watching your videos. I now have a dozen places on my "must try" list. Thanks for doing this. When you said you were going to smash your mortedella, did you mean literally or was that slang for eat? Curious if you were smashing it, what you were making.

I’m from nyc and all our Cubans left a long time ago for Miami. I miss all the spots from the old days and I’m so jealous that Louisville is the jam now for that type of food. That never ending line of huge roast pork shoulders with all the crispy skin was dreamy.
The food looks delicious ! But it doesn't look like Cuban but more Puerto Rican. Bodega Mi Sueno... Winery my dream . The sandwich Ryan was having would be in Cuban, sándwich de medianoche... midnight sandwich, it appeared to be on sweet bread and toasted, A cuban sandwich , sándwich de cubano wouldn't be toasted and would be on Cuban bread. Would like to see more of the pastries (pasteles). Will have to go check the place out. Didn't see you have any plátanos fritos, no Cuban restaurant would be without them or papas fritas and croquetas.
What he had was not una medianoche(no Cuban sandwich is call a “sandwich de”), it was a version of un Cubano(again, not sandwiche de Cubano). A Cubano is ABSOLUTELY pressed and heated on la plancha, if it’s not then it’s not a Cuban. Only thing they did differently was they added mayonnaise, left out the pickles and mustard and didn’t cut it on a hard biased angle. Oh and the pastries you are thinking about are not called pasteles, they are called pastelitos.
I do like mustard, I have had with Mayo and mustard. I think it was a Puerto Rican restaurant where they gave me an orange colored sauce for dipping, turns out it was just Mayo and ketchup

That’s crappy paella. Paella was invented in Spain. The uniqueness of the dish is having a crispy bottom with fluffy soft rice in middle.. most Latin American countries and even Portugal bastardized the dish. They make yellow rice and throw seafood in it and call it paella. That’s not paella. Their is unique way of making it as I mentioned before.
because of the straining results of communism, they dont have all the ingredients like we have, here in the USA. . i worked at an auto manufacturer in the east end , and alot of my co workers was cuban, one guy i did a favor for, he brought me a pie/cake but it was completely flay with no yeast, back in Cuba it was a favorite, and later a lady explained that they dont have all the ingredients that we have here in USA.
