There's no way you can remove Vileplume as Erika's ace. She's all about flowers and it's been her signature Pokemon in every piece of Pokemon media since gen 1! Exeggutor might make sense as a regular Pokemon on her team but Vileplume has to be her ace.
Some tough sells, but overall strong and reasoned choices. The Giovanni team is pretty perfect, especially with the gift stealing. The only other suggestion I would have for Giovanni would be to swap out Rhydon or Nidoking (I don't know which they're both great for different reasons) for Ditto, and coding Gio to have a higher chance of swapping to Ditto the higher the BST of your currently active pokemon. Partially this is another vibe for his criminal nature, since it's the closest thing to pokemon stealing in the game, but also it's a hint at the longstanding theory that Ditto are failed Mew clones, which is another tie back to Team Rocket and their involvement in Mewtwo. It's also another way to make this a very personal fight, which is obviously a big selling point of your lineup. Either way, I would definitely play this romhack.
Well, this vid was inspiring! I am gonna be kept up tonight weighing up which mon to swap though... Of course the fun answer is to have the persian be a pre-transformed ditto- its a little cheaty but it gives Persian the rep while also making for a cool easteregg if you force a recall or if Gio is coded to recall it at a certain health. If the 'persian' is out of the pokeball and sat next to him in the overworld it doesn't even really break any rules. In fact this Ditto-Persian could replace Kengaskhan in the previous battles like in Yellow and you may not even notice. Maybe his real persian is safe and pampered at home. Actually Persian can learn U-Turn in the modern games, so in a Lets Go hack it could be given that instead of thunderbolt (and maybe sleeptalk instead of double team which I don't think is a legal move) to build around that play. It also makes the pokemon a lot more boss worthy after the crit/speed split cuz, if it escapes, it could be a much bigger threat when it comes back and instantly transforms into one of your heavy hitters. (also pure coincidence, it seems Gio did have a ditto, both hitmons, and a haunter in the manga!)
This was so good! I’m glad Magnus added me to the PokeTuber Discord so I could find other creators! I love mixing up the Gym teams to cover their weaknesses. It’s one of the reasons I like Candice and Volkner in DP. If they’re so elite, they should be able to counter your strategy. And Giovanni’s team is PERFECT. I love that your choices in-game impact his team, and I love him having a full team. Keep up the good work!!
9:27 I think Mr. Mime is a good Kadabra replacement, it can just show the versatility of Psyquic types by having Thunder Wave, Light Screen, Thunder (can be replaced by Thunderbolt or Psyquic) and Solar Beam (can be also replaced with the previous mentioned)
Bro, this is insanely well edited. Even tho i don't really agree with giving Pokémon from other types beyond their theme/speciality (most of the choices just don't fit imo), i think you did a very good job with the production.
Thank you! Yeah, that's gen 1s issue. There's such a low amount of Pokemon that you can't have a monotype team AND keep within their personality. You end up with things like Sabrina having a Mr Mime...
this was a very well put together video, I hope it gets more attention! are you planning on remaking the elite four teams and more generations gyms next?
Thank you! 100%, yeah. I think gyms typically got better from generation three onwards, but there's definitely some Johto gyms that need a bit of fixing! Next video will be a challenge run video but if there's enough buzz on this one, I'd happily jump into gen 2!
Straight out of the gate man, that amount of versatility for Brock being able to cover for all the starter types? That's really gonna force new players to learn the type chart. Big brain no. 1 gym leader.
First off, I really dig the Giovanna idea you have. It’s a nice choice to emphasize his criminal nature. I do also like that instead of focusing solely on the mono-type, you have done the Pokemon Stadium thing & given most of the gym leaders Pokemon to help combat their weaknesses. Things I’d consider & do for the Kanto Leaders Brock: Keep Onix as the Ace. It’s a well designed Pokemon for an early game boss. Accompanying it with Kabuto for the exact reasons you mentioned & have Brock use a Zubat as his last mon. It’s not overly strong & it helps combat the trainers who picked Bulbasaur while not overly punishing Charmander players or giving Squirtle a free win. Misty: I’d have a similar lineup. Psyduck as the middle mon, and Starmie as the ace. I’d do Poliwag for the lead with Hypnosis strats to soften up trainers. Lt. Surge: Making Electabuzz the ace makes a ton of sense. I do like keeping something from the Pikachu line, and Fearow seems like a good mon for a military man to have to counter his ground weakness. Erika: The Porygon is completely out of left field, but I don’t dislike the choice. Tangela & Vileplume are good picks, and I can see Erika having Exeggutor as an ace. Koga: I like Koga keeping Weezing. Golbat & Venomoth also are very Koga coded & I’m fine with him having both. Since Poison types are so common in gen 1, I think Tentacruel is a good final member for his squad. Sabrina: She has one of the most dominant types in Gen 1, so let’s capitalize on that. I think Let’s Go’s team of Slowbro, Mr.Mime, Jynx, and Ace Alakazam is excellent for her. Blane: Arcanine being the ace & Magmar being included are no brainers for Blane. I do think his other Pokemon should aid him against his weaknesses. I’d like Clefable for his team. It has great coverage, and I can see an older man like Blane using one. While the Gyarados is a cool idea, I do want another fire type, and Ninetales is actually pretty solid in Gen 1, so I’m going with that. Giovanni: Rhydon, Nidoking, and Persain are all great picks for the team. As for the other 2 (I like capping the final gym leader with 5 Pokemon. Rematches are a different story), I actually like the idea of Giovanni stealing the fossil you don’t take for one of his choices. I’d like to make Marowak the last member to tie in to Team Rocket’s antics with The Pokemon Tower. Though, Giovanni owning a Gengar would be a cool lore idea if we want to hint at him considering arming himself to catch Mewtwo later.
i love your editing style so much, such a great video. Learned so much abt the manga too lol idk how to feel abt gyarados for the fire gym, perhaps a charizard that team would've fit the travelling theme whilst still being a fire type such a great video :)
I feel like another good Pokemon for Giovanni would be Tauros. He uses one in Round 1 of Pokemon Stadium, it's a powerful, intimidating and rare Pokemon and with 70 Special it can even be a mixed attacker. You could it even have it run Thunderbolt, Rock Slide and Fire Blast with the reasoning that Giovanni is prepared for the protagonist and equipped his Pokemon with moves that are super effective no matter your starter.
Yes! Tarous is one of my favourite gen one Pokémon! It's a good idea since I don't think it gets any love in the games other than the cut Prof. Oak fight?
@@Dengar_YT Yeah no important trainer has it in RBY or GSC, the only ones that do are 2 generic Tamers in RBY and 2 generic Cooltrainers in GSC, a massive missed opportunity.
@@Dengar_YT I don't know, no offense it's a great video but I didn't expect you to give a poison type gym leader a non- poison type pokemon. Maybe that was the point of the video idk. My bad if it was, I didn't watch it
My crack take is that the gyms should be drastically changed; Brock - Ground Misty - Flying Surge - Moved to Saffron Erika - Grass Sabrina - Promoted to E4 Koga - Bug Blane - Moved to Vermillion Giovanni - Normal Loralei - Water Bruno - Fighting Agatha - Demoted to Ghost Gym in Lavender Lance - Dragon (In this scenario you have to do the Pokemon mansion to unlock the 8th gym) With this new gym distribution we can more effectively see the regions types. Without a poison gym the large number of poison dual types won't feel like they detract from their gym. And the Elite 4 now has more plentiful types to pull from. In (the new) order it would go: Brock; 1, Diglett 2, Sandshrew 3, Onyx Misty; 1, Butterfree 2, Farfetch'd 3, Golbat Blane; 1, Vulpix 2, Ponyta 3, Flareon 4, Magmar Agatha; 1, Gastly 2, Haunter 3, Gengar (4, Marrowak Optionally) Erika; 1, Tangela 2, Exeggcute 3, Exeggutor 4, Victreebel Surge; 1, Raichu 2, Voltorb 3, Magneton 4, Electabuzz 5, Jolteon Koga; 1, Parasect 2, Venomoth 3, Kabutops 4, Pinsir 5, Scyther Giovanni; 1, Porygon 2, Persian 3, Dodrio 4, Nidoking 5, Kangaskhan 6, Tauros Lorelei; 1, Dewgong 2, Omastar 3, Slowbro 4, Vaporeon 5, Cloyster 6, Lapras Bruno; 1, Primeape 2, Golem 3, Polywrath 4, Hitmonchan 5, Hitmonlee 6, Machamp Sabrina; 1, Kadrabra 2, Hypno 3, Starmie 4, Mr. Mime 5, Jynx 6, Alakazam Lance; 1, Dragonair 2, Seadra 3, Areodactyl 4, Gyrados 5, Dragonair 6, Dragonit I'd say a list like this better uses the types of the region and allows for more creative team compositions. I think it would work even better with some cross gen evolutions/forms. Such as Leafeon, Espeon, Alolan Ratticate, Alolan Raichu, Alolan Marowak, Annihilape, Golarian Slowking, Surfetch'd, Tangrowth, Kingdra, Paldrian Tauros, and more
I like that you implemented Scyther on Koga's team, something no one mentions is that Koga is implied to own a Scyther in flashback of the anime, losing to a Marowak.
I see why Exeggutor was added to Erika’s team and the representation behind it. Tangela the pure grass type represents Erika and the Celdaon City gym being grass. Vileplume who is both Grass and Poison represents if the player chooses to head for Fuchsia City to face Koga next that poison types are what they will be up against. Exeggutor being grass and psychic represents if the player decides to go towards Saffron City to challenge Sabrina afterwards that psychic types await in the gym. Since both Koga and Sabrina’s teams have the same Base Stat Totals as you mentioned, this reinforces Erika and Celadon City presenting a fork in the road for the player.
Theres an interesting reason why brock was designed as is in RBY. Rock works as a great tutorial type for fire/water/grass cores. Normal attacks are resisted by rock, so a starter needs to use its special moves to do significant damage. That said i like the changes to Brock. I would just make it so sandshrew isnt blue exclusive, and make it commonly available very early on so you have the tools to block rock throw. Sandshrew isnt very strong, and learns no ground type moves in gen 1 so it would function as a great wall. It also has poison sting which could teach players about using status to defeat mons, just give it to sandshrew at lv 5 or 10 instead of...lv 24? Lol gen 1 movesets
This is absolutely brilliant. Not only is every choice well thought out but they’re all super easy connections to make. It’s mind boggling how GameFreak didn’t come to any of these conclusions.
Love the Giovanni team ! I recently learned that apparently, a NPC labeled "Dad" was removed from the games, and he would've been placed where the guy who gives you the Lapras is. Now that I see your video, it could've been Erika's dad who'd give you the Porygon during Team Rocket's raid, to protect it ! Another NPC, the boss of Silph (therefore, Erika's father) was also removed. He would've been a battle and hiding in the Safari. I learned that from a french guy : 3 minutes in -> ua-cam.com/video/--u0dn8QbxI/v-deo.html 5:18 -> ua-cam.com/video/X4ZdjCVj70I/v-deo.html
I love the idea about revamp Kanto Gyms Teams, particularly the Erika one where her nightmare mechanic of status + Wrap + Leech Seed is gone after generation 1. Also I would have love to see a Dragonair en Erika's Team as in the TCG, and since it has Wrap and Thunder Wave in the games, that could've work for her team.
i associate victrebell with erika and don't think nepotism should be part of her gym. I vote disapproval of porygon (it's artificial life so it doesn't even vibe with her gym). I also dislike water onix for blaine. I think he should have a ninetales, ditto or marowak instead (to hint at his association with the mewtwo project and/or team rocket)
You made them less shit but my fangame fully fixes it. No monotype nonsense, varied types and good moves and full 6 pokemon teams from gym 4 and onwards. Also, rematch after Elite 4.
@@Dengar_YT Still in development but I already finished the "numbers part". As in, I already rebalanced the pokemon's stats, which moves they learn by tm or level and what level they learn it. The moves themselves were rebalanced, with some being deleted and me creatng new ones. What's left is finishing recreating the maps , setting the character events and fixing the code for a few specific moves in rpgmaker.
I see why Exeggutor was added to Erika’s team and the representation behind it. Tangela the pure grass type represents Erika and the celadon city gym being grass. Vileplume who is Grass and Poison represents if a player chooses to go to Koga after that poison types are next in the fuchsia city gym. Exeggutor being grass and psychic represents if a player chooses to go to Sabrina after that psychic types await in the saffron city gym. As you mentioned since Koga and Sabrina’s teams have the same Base Stat Totals are the same this reinforces Erika and Celadon City presenting a fork in the road for the player.
It's interesting to give Erika a Portón based on manga, but would that fit with her being "The Nature Loving Princess"? I mean, Porygon is not really "natural"
That's a fair argument, honestly! It does make me like Porygon a bit more though since it's so different to the rest of the team. It makes the player ask why and try to find out.
surprised venomoth didn't make koga's team as it was his ace in the anime. then again bulbasaur could just use whirlwind and blow all the spores away..
I understand what you're going for but at the same time it is a kids game and the gym leaders have infinite tms so of course they would teach their signature tm to more then their starter anyway here is mine. Personally I make a challenge mode(which puts the player on set mode makes boss fights more challenging and the player can't increase the level of their pokemon higher than the gym leaders if you're in the pokemon league you can only go max to the champions ace and if you're in kanto the max you can go is Blue's ace you get the point). Oh in my version in the settings you can turn on guide the super effective moves will be clearly highlighted with a up arrow down for not very effective @ for neutral 0 for no effect. To help the nebbies out. Red and Blue Brock: Level 12 Geodude Level 14 Onix. Geodude: Rock throw Tackle Defense Curl Onix: Rock Throw Screech Mud Slap Bide Challenge mode: Level 13 Geodude Level 13 Omayte Level 15 Onix For Charmander fans they can find Sandshrew in the grass between viridian city and the league gates which learns mud slap at 10. The scam man will be moved to pewter city pokemon center he will offer a goldeen for 800 dollars as well as Magikarp for 500. Magikarp can learn bubble in this game. Pikachu can learn double kick at level 12. Metapod and kakuna learns absorb at level 9. Misty: Level 19 Goldeen Level 19 Seel Level 21 Starmie I added Seel because I remember from Red and Blue that if you talk to a trainer on the right side of cinnabar island they tell you Misty trains there that's where you can find a seel which misty definitely would have added to her team especially since she is a huge fan of loreill. Goldeen: Peck Supersonic Horn Attack Bubblebeam Seel: Headbutt Yawn(works the same way like thunder wave just slows down the opponent) Icy wind Bubblebeam Starmie: Bubblebeam Confusion Supersonic Bide(I would have given it swift but I think it would be better to take advantage of it's good defense and lack of super effective moves against it to counter anybody trying to spam mega punch and mega kick on it) Challenge mode: Level 20 Goldeen Level 20 Seel Level 22 Starmie The other two are meant to stall your team with stuff like supersonic and yawn. Starmie having Recover this early in the game would make it a monster the point is to be difficult but since this is the first time pokemon comes out it can't be too hard so supersonic would work. However challenge mode is different story. Lt Surge: Level 23 Voltorb Level 24 Jolten Level 24 Raichu Voltorb: Sonicboom Thunder wave Explosion Electro ball Jolten: Electro ball Protect(To Counter people who go for Dig) Swift(it's neutral in this game but it's still a special move that doesn't miss works well on Diglett's low defense and counter for those who try to go for mud slap) Double kick(Counter to Geodudes and Onix) Raichu: Electro ball Double team Slam(taking advantage of Diglett's poor defense) Dig(move to cover rock pokemon) Electro ball is move that does more damage if the user is faster which for most of them they are. Level 25 Voltorb Level 26 Jolten Level 26 Raichu. They'll be having moves like Ice fang and Ice Punch instead of Double Kick and Body Slam instead of Slam. Erika: Level 28 Tangela(with the scrapped design added to the game to give it some stat boost) Level 29 Victreebel Level 29 Vileplume Level 31 Exxecugtor You can't enter the pokemon Casino yet until you battle Erika. Who will make a disguise for you to pass off as an adult also the route before won't have so many trainers. This is to prevent overleveling Tangela: Rock Throw Substitute Leech Seed Mega Drain(55 power special move) Victreebel: Body Slam Swords Dance Poison fang Mega Drain Vileplume: Body Slam Swords Dance Petal Dance(120 base power since it's thrash for grass types) Dance Sludge Exxecugtor: Hypnosis(it works the same it does in Legends Arceus like paralysis) Dream Eater Leech Seed Mega Drain Level 30 Tangela(with the scrapped design added to the game to give it some stat boost) Level 31 Victreebel Level 31 Vileplume Level 33 Exxecugtor Koga: Level 36 Golbat Level 37 Muk Level 37 Tentacruel Level 38 Venomoth Golbat: Wing Attack Toxic Confuse Ray Shadow Fang(Same as the elemental fangs except meant to counter Psychic pokemon) Muk: Toxic Minimize Body Slam Ice Punch Tentacruel: Surf Barrier Toxic Skull Bash Venomoth: Thunder(Counters Flying pokemon and acts as a nice surprise for anyone going with Fly) Toxic Bug Bite Mega Drain(To cover rock and ground types) Level 38 Golbat Level 39 Muk Level 39 Tentacruel Level 40 Weezing Level 41 Venomoth Koga's team is mainly focused on stalling. Tentacruel high defense would be increased with barrier and skull bash while stalling you out with toxic. Toxic/Minimize is also a problem with Muk. Venomoth is good special attacker. Sabrina: Level 40 Hypno Level 40 Mr Mime Level 41 Slowbro Level 43 Alakazam Hypno: Hypnosis Dream Eater Skull Bash Meditate(I know he needs a higher level but just an exception in this case Calm mind is too hard for casual users) Mr Mime: Thunderbolt Substitute Barrier(Would be calm mind but this is easy mode) Physic Slowbro: Physic Calm Mind Fire Blast Bubblebeam Alakazam: Psychic Shadow ball Recover Calm Mind Level 41 Hypno Level 41 Mr Mime Level 42 Jynx Level 43 Slowbro Level 45 Alakazam In My kanto more bug pokemon would have better moves like leech life having some increased power and bug bite. Shadow fang Shadow ball and shadow punch would also be in this game. Ghost moves would be super effective and wouldn't have the coding error in it. Alakazam is also not too great in defense in this game and the player would get shadow ball from lavender town as a gift from the cubone's owner. Marowak is also part ghost in this game. One Link Cable can be found in the game in silph co this will also the player to get strong pokemon like Alakazam or Gengar. So this will still be a challenging battle but not impossible even for new trainers. Blaine: Level 44 Flareon Level 44 Magmar Level 45 Ninetails Level 45 Archaine Level 47 Rapidash(Except it has better defense and attack stats since it takes long to evolve the player should be rewarded with a bulky pokemon) Flareon: Flamethrower Toxic Protect Body Slam Magmar: Thunderpunch Submission Fire Punch Sunny Day Ninetails: Flamethrower Calm Mind Hyper Beam Electro Ball Archainie: Flamethrower Thunderfang Roar(it would work like Howl since it's introduced early) Body Slam Rapidash: Flamethrower Sunny Day Solarbeam Body Slam Level 46 Flareon Level 46 Magmar Level 47 Vileplume (acts as counter to his team's weakness plus he has one in stadium) Ninetails Level 48 Archaine Level 48 Level 50 Rapidash You went to the Cinnabar Mansion and found out about some secret projects team rocket did back in the day you would then go to Cinnabar Island after the 7th badge to fight Team Rocket one last time with your rival. Giovanni would be trying to catch and control the Legendaries birds since you sabotaged the machine his legendary birds are stuck at lower level level 45 all of them and his Ace Persian is Level 47. You are given rock slide by Blue before this. Giovanni battles you with his 3 birds and you beat them and they are able to free themselves he gets angry and tells you and Blue to meet him at his gym they will settle this once and for all. Giovanni: Level 49 Dugtrio Level 49 Marowak(Part Ghost in my version of Kanto) Level 50 Nidoqueen Level 50 Nidoking Level 52 Rhydon(with some better boosts to it's special defense so it doesn't go down in one hit with surf and same reasons as Rapidash takes a while to train so you should get rewarded for it) Dugtrio: Slash Swords Dance Earthquake Rock Slide Marowak: Shadow Bone Swords Dance Boomerang Thunderpunch Nidoqueen(Physical attacker): Ice Punch Body Slam Earthquake Rock Slide Nidoking(Special attacker): Thunderbolt Surf Earthquake Hyper Beam Rhydon: Thunder Punch Rock Slide Earthquake Body Slam Giovanni: Level 50 Dugtrio Level 50 Marowak Level 51 Gyarados(Covers Grass Water and Ice weakness) Level 52 Nidoqueen Level 52 Nidoking Level 54 Rhydon The Elite 4 would have one coverage pokemon on their team I'll post later. What do you think?
For Lt. Surge I always felt Electabuzz should have been on his team instead of Pikachu. What are your thoughts on Jolteon in place of Voltorb? I like the addition of Exeggutor to Erika’s team. It’s sad that Erika had to lose her Victribell, but I see you were trying to keep the numbers the same. I like Muk being on the team as the minimize setup with toxic can be so detrimental to the player. Definitely agree that Golbat should be on the team. Venomoth would be good for Koga’s team to counter Psychics. I also would like to present Tentacruel as an option since it is a poison, but also water which could be a counter for those trying to sweep with ground types. I understand what was trying to be done for Sabrina. I would definitely take out Venomoth and replace with Hypno. If wanting Kadabra switched out, maybe Slowbro or Jynx though I could see why you wouldn’t want to make it too repetitive of Lorelei’s team. For Blaine I completely agree that Magmar is essential and I like the addition of Flareon as you don’t really see it on the team of any trainers from what I recall. Then again I haven’t played since 1999 when I was 6 years old.
Love this! Here's my list (stole some of your ideas)- Brock: Kabuto is actually a really good option. Paras - i figure you catch them right there a mt moon and provides great type coverage. Onix Misty: Psyduck Seaking (underleveled evo 😮) Starmie (May also want to throw on Jigglypuff) Lt Surge: Magnemite Fearow Krabby/Kingler (same reasoning as Paras for Brock. Its right there...) I can go either way with Raichu or Electabuzz being his ace. Erika: Tangela Butterfree (love Porygon too though) Exeggutor Vileplume (feels wrong not having this as her ace lol) Koga: Weezing Tentacruel Scyther Golbat Venemoth Sabrina: Kadabra Haunter Porygon (because silph co is right there) Mr Mime Alakazam Blaine: Rapidash Seadra (too many people already use Gyarados, but otherwise I would agree with you) Kangaskhan (love that idea!) Arcanine Magmar (makes more sense as the ace me because of the anime Giovanni: Dugtrio Gengar Nidoqueen Persian Rhydon Mewtwo (yes! But like level 55 to keep it kinda fair. And then he would mention that Mewtwo has escaped or something) Cant wait to see what you do for the e4!
“We are going to chance the move Fire Blast to Flamethrower which sounds a bit silly…” Hardly! Everyone loves fire blast for its power but they forget that it has low accuracy and only 5 pp, so you won’t get to use it much and will be lucky if it hits Flamethrower is a *much* more practical option imo
@@Dengar_YT Also definitely agree that absorb has no business being learned at level *34* (especially when it doesn't learn anything else until then! [granted you can only get it at level 30 but imagine if it was level *5* like in the remakes...) Also it's not like the game cares about playing by it's own rules either, like with Falkner with his level 9 pidgeotto
@@Dengar_YT Was wondering if Johto would get fixed because that place really is a mess (only half the gen 2 leaders actually use gen 2 pokemon, and even then it’s only their ace)
@@Dengar_YT Yeah, I wanted to keep the off-type Pokémon fitting to their theme. I would have given Lt. Surge a Magnemite instead of Porygon if this was FRLG, but I would have changed one of Magnemite's abilities to Levitate to avoid Diglett cheese.
Though i get why you thought of doubling with Sabrina's team, but i suggest a fun gimmick would be make jynx and mime version exclusive team member with one which isnt found in the wild of one game used by her. Mime would be abt the force field walls And jynx cold mysticism or someother cold oriented psychic refernce or referncing her cold personality. She was using a whip during her intial debute.
One pokey tuber also suggested that the rainbow badge and the Earth bad should be swapped so if you did that it would be perfect rainbow mixed specialist
I would make one change to Giovani’s new team. Give him the fully evolved version of the starter that neither you nor your rival picked, and give it at least one powerful move to counter your starter’s type.
BRILLIANT!... The only thing I'd change is Geovani's team. The whole taking the alternate prize pokemon is genius and I like the Gengar acquired by the Silph scope was awesome too but I'd replace the gengar and leave Agatha with that (could be some back story of Geovani knowing Agatha once upon a time and gifting her with her first ghost pokemon or something)... I'd replace the Gengar with a strong tank Clefable given their Mt Moon endeavours and his ability to obtain rare items like multiple moonstones... I'd also replace his Rhydon (given the rival also has one not long after) and instead I'd give him a level 50 Mewtwo (who breaks free from Geovani upon defeating him) This allows Mewtwo to escape into the unknown dungeon raising himself to level 70 before you encounter him and now know of him instead of inexplicably having the knowledge of him from nowhere. Plus it mirrors the anime of Geovani acquiring Mewtwo and him breaking free and stuff. Omastar/Kabutops (alternate Mt Moon fossil) Hitmonchan/Hitmonlee (alternate dojo) Clefable (tank) Nidoking (bit more badass then Rhydon IMO) Persian (signature pokemon) Mewtwo (ace)
I'd love if Misty had a Goldeen. Idk how well it fits with the anime but Horn Attack can be quite dangerous at this point, especially to Pikachu's terrible defense
I really love your take on your Pokemon teams; especially Giovanni cause THAT was AMAZING! However, I just have 3 main complaints on your perspectives that aren’t really super serious. 1. Unless you have Brock’s team, all teams should have 4 moves. 2. I would love it if Lt. Surge would also have a Machoke on his team. Replacing Pikachu with it would give Surge another way to fight against trainers with rock types while also helping Fearow out against diglets. (Also remember the old man with the Machop working on the plot of land? Be a nice way to tie him to Lt Surge). 3. Replace Tangela with a Butterfree. Butterfree is a good aesthetic for Erica and could give type coverage. Tangela just doesn’t do enough for me as a Pokemon; well at least in the Red, Blue, and Yellow series. Really REALLY love your take on the Gym Leader’s teams! Gonna subscribe to you.❤🔥🔥🔥
well... the point of the first gym.. is to learn about match-up, the rival always have a good matchup against you, and in viridian forest, charmander have an easy time while bulbasaur have a less easy time On first gym even charmander can win, but if the onix just kills you with one rock, while there is no better option than your starter ADD TO THAT, geodude and onix have sky high defense against early game normal type moves, that way you will learn about special and physical, and you will understand that some pokemon are way better to take physical hits All of this would be ruined if by choosing charmander you get destroyed by the first gym Just look at the options: Rattata: does nothing Pidgey: dies to a rock Weedle: dies to a rock beedrill won't help Caterpie: dies to a rock and butterfree will die if it does not kills both nidorans: does even less than rattata without stab Pikachu: does nothing You can't just take charmander in one move, the player can't do anything if onix has rock throw
First of all, Bulasaur and Charmander have a equal time in thr forest. Charmander for offence, Bulbasaur for defence since it's the only starter that's immune to poison. Something that is a big danger in the maze of the forest. Secondly, Brock is difficult because of the balance and options of the early game, not because he has good Pokémon. Kabuto, Vulpix and Onix is very manageable. The game just needs to give you more than just normal and bug types.
@@Dengar_YT well if you don’t change the pokemon available Don’t give onix a rock type move Also I assumed bulbasaur was not good in the forest because of his quad weakness but I forgot nothing get bug type moves lmao
@@PonKabruti 😅 yeah, I'm practicing for a creator nuzlocke race and I suffered to poison every time I pick anything other than Bulbasaur. 100% the encounters would be jigged around a bit if these were the gym leaders. I'm an advocate for more choice of Pokémon early on.
Giovanni's lineup is too all over the place man. Persian and Kabutops are still ok additions but Hitmonlee and Gengar already belong to Elite 4 members. I think Marowak and Nidoqueen are good to keep. I still think that Vileplume is a better fit as Erika's ace since it represents the Grass-type better than Exeggutor since it has 3 evolutions, and a signature move (and properly the best non-status Grass-type move): Petal Dance. Tangela can be the 1st Pokemon with its high defense and powder set moves. Leech Seed is a better move for Exeggutor than Hypnosis since only Exeggutor-line can use this move beside Bulbasour-line in Gen 1.
I’d give Giovanni a Marowak because of the team rocket lavender town stuff, a Persian because of the anime and maybe because of the nugget bridge stuff nugget = money Persian has pay day, the fossil you don’t get, Nidoking, porygon from silphco, Nidoqueen
Wow uh....do you just hate charmander players or something? How the hell's anyone supposed to do brock if they committed the sin of choosing charmander as their starter bar absurd levels of grind? You can't even get a butterfree to get past him because the vulpix and onix will kill it like... the hell are you even supposed to do? Use your amazing pidgey and rat against him? Maybe the nidos with their fantastic poison sting? That's way too strong for brock. like it's less bad for bulba and squirtle but for charmander? Thats an awful boss 1. The options just aren't there for charmander players to even do this beyond go grind levels. like christ you can't even get charmander leveled up much vs kabuto because that friggen 1/4 damage and then he also cheats to get absorb way early? Nah this is super bad. Misty isn't terrible and her mons fit and least by her you have some options, you can catch a few grass types and maybe do something here. yeah confusion makes grass not free either since most of the ones you can catch are half poison but like... you can toss a normal mon at it maybe and be ok as it's not that strong unlike brock where his onix just kills charmander's only other option. See the reason raichu was ok despite being as powerful as it was for gym 3 was BECAUSE ground nulls electric so you can go grab a diglett and go to town (yeah theoretically you could get that thugtrio but lets be real most players weren't catching him most were getting sent to the pokemon center by it unless they knew exactly how to fight it or running the hell away). you giving him fearow kinda screws that and fearow itself is actually pretty strong at this stage too. more than that I think it's a real stretch to be like "oh this one random card has a fearow for him and it's never seen again so let's have him use it!". But at least again like misty by gym 3 you have options for it. grab a geodude grab a diglett there ya go. I DO love having him use electabuzz though it absolutely suits him better. I don't mind him keeping a rai too alongside buzz though buzz is the ace ofc and NOT having fearow though and make it more a thing to teach the player to use ground types though can still give rai like mega punch so diglett doesn't just auto win if you're that worried about it. make it so he has bad type variety but is really strong maybe and it'd still be reasonably balanced since ground mons are deffo available. if you're that worried can idk give buzz submission as a tm so he can hit geodude and diglett better too. yeah it's sorta high power but it also has recoil so if it uses it a lot you can kill it off recoil too and it also isn't terribly accurate but least makes geodude and diglett not ENTIRELY a free win still while staying true to what he does. Hell why not fight fire w/ fire and maybe HE went to digletts cave and got his own diglett referring to a guy in the military being familiar w/ trench warfare and the cave being literally right next door? it also hits geodudes many players might use too so it has uses beyond as well, while giving a player a way to win w/ ground and grass mons despite his buff team if you're that desperate to give him a non electric type. erika... felt like a massive stretch. her dad works at silph co and despite her never really using a porygon she just... kinda has one because it's briefly mentioned and again not even used really in the manga? It's... a massive stretch granted grass kinda is ass in gen 1 so it's probably something she needs. you could give eggy psychic too i mean at this stage you have way more tm access it seems fine for it to have psychic maybe. She's right next to saffron where you get psychic tm after all. since you liked the stadium games you could give her a vaporeon for coverage. eevee actually was a more major part of the manga as well, she's in celadon so the water stone's right there and so is the eevee guy and it helps her not just automatically lose to fire and can ice beam like you wanted for flying too, it just also covers fire for her and even resists ice while vaporeon as a mon suits her nature more I think. Has great synergy w/ her grass mons who in return resist its weakness to both grass and electric. I think it's a better pick than pory anyway for her and given the spike in power the player gets at celadon w/ all those killer tms won't be too op either. For sabrina i like mr mime still somewhere for the whole creepy clown vibe it gives off since sabrina also was sorta creepy to people in the show and people fear clowns but overall not bad at all this one's pretty decent. I think haunter is a neat add and nod to her battle with ash much as I hated how ash won that battle so good on ya. As for koga... honestly i think gengar fits him more than giovanni as he's a tricky creeping shadow of a poison type but I also actually am ok w/ gio getting one because well... it just makes sense he had the silph scope you'd think he went out and tried it in the tower and got some ghost so much as gengar'd be awesome for koga too i can forgive it given how you are going about it. But given how few ghosts there are it's ok if there's a few repeats on ghost and gengar's awesome though again if you hate repeats I can forgive it esp as Koga lacks a silph scope so gio having it is fine if only 1 can. overall koga's fine for me though I like the scyther add on too there was no reason he'd not have that. It'd be fine to give voltorb thunder wave too since koga likes status i think so it's not just ENTIRELY useless vs the ghost koga wishes he had. You could if you don'tt give sabrina mime give it to koga since his whole ass gym is invisible walls and all the trainers in his gym used psychic too. It'd give him a nice psychic resist too and explain how he got all those invisible walls granted how he'd get one... is another story sadly like w/ gengar so I'm fine w/ this koga he was never gonna be that strong anyway as poison kinda sucks outside specific mons he isnt easily getting. Blaine tbf fire is kinda limited but.... yeah gyarados is... why? He was never shown using such a thing ever. I know gyara gives better type coverage sorta but there's just... no reason he'd use this. why not give him a fossil mon? he's on cinnabar where you can revive fossils maybe he got a fossil in his travels. aero gets fire blast and isn't part of the whole kabuto, omanyte thing. Hell he knows of it because in the manga he tells red to revive an aero too even while also being a scientist on cinnabar so he probably knows about reviving fossils. it gets fire blast via tm, is immune to ground and actually is something he might get as he's a scientist on cinnabar island while giving him a flying mon so he can come and go from cinnabar too also sorta giving the whole riding an awesome mon vibe for him but feels less offensive than just... random gyarados. Magmar was natural and I'm angry it's not a part of his team in the main games so good on you doing justice w/ that one. Giovanni is an interesting take and I kinda like it overall as while it IS really different it makes him feel like an alternate rival sorta which he kinda is throughout the game so I actually like what you went for here with him while he is in fact the ground specialist I actually like how you went w/ him and it makes sense while making a much cooler alternative. fantastic as a final boss Overall some of these were a big stretch and others are just... poor game design but there also were some pretty good ones here too. Not a bad video. But seriously that brock one is WAY too strong for a gym 1 especially if you dared to commit the sin of choosing charmander as your starter. The early gyms don't HAVE to be super strong you gotta take into account what the player actually can GET at that stage of the game too. Power's relative after all. Sure psyduck's a mid mon but if the only thing the player can use to fight it is magikarp suddenly that psyduck seems way strong.
You seem to think that the game would remain identical if these were the leaders. Gen one did MANY things wrong. If I'm changing the leaders, I'd change the encounters/early option.

@@tpfoxCastro Who hurt you, child?
@@Dengar_YT curious what did he say anyway what do you think of my version of kanto
I love the idea of Geovani stealing the gift pokemon thats actually so sick! Great video and amazing editing! :D
Thank you! It's honestly a lot more fun than just a Dugtrio and a Rhyhorn for no reason 😅
The fossil part makes so much sense too!
Agreed, but it's spelled "Giovanni"
There's no way you can remove Vileplume as Erika's ace. She's all about flowers and it's been her signature Pokemon in every piece of Pokemon media since gen 1! Exeggutor might make sense as a regular Pokemon on her team but Vileplume has to be her ace.
You have now made Kanto almost too hard to beat lmao holy moly
Good!
Kanto is stupidly easy. There's only one gym that you can even say is remotely a challenge and that's because Psychic was balanced poorly.
Dude this is rad, especially the whole Giovanni thing.
Glad you liked it!
Loved this, never knew Erika's dad worked for silph! also, loved my boy Ned chiming in!!
He needs a little bit of patience, but his heart is in the right place.
I love that Ditto idea and the inspiration behind it!
Thank you! Great to have you onboard!
All the TCG references made me want to see one of my favorite cards ever: Giovanni's Magikarp
Chad card 💪
this was a very well put together video, I hope it gets more attention! are you planning on remaking the elite four teams and more generations gyms next?
Thank you! 100%, yeah. I think gyms typically got better from generation three onwards, but there's definitely some Johto gyms that need a bit of fixing!
Next video will be a challenge run video but if there's enough buzz on this one, I'd happily jump into gen 2!
Gyarados was the worst idea
Rapidash should be in that place
Eh, too many fire types. I dislike monotype teams. Break the rules a little. 😜
Best video of this theme about changing gym leaders teams that I've ever saw. Hope you keep on doing them!
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
I love the non-type specific picks. I think we need more gym leaders who go with a vibe or theme rather than a type.
Yeeees! Someone gets it! 🙌
Straight out of the gate man, that amount of versatility for Brock being able to cover for all the starter types? That's really gonna force new players to learn the type chart. Big brain no. 1 gym leader.
Exactly that. I didn't want there to be a 'right' answer for the starter choice.
First off, I really dig the Giovanna idea you have. It’s a nice choice to emphasize his criminal nature. I do also like that instead of focusing solely on the mono-type, you have done the Pokemon Stadium thing & given most of the gym leaders Pokemon to help combat their weaknesses.
Things I’d consider & do for the Kanto Leaders
Brock: Keep Onix as the Ace.
Very nice!!!!! Make with Johto!
On it. 😉
i love your editing style so much, such a great video. Learned so much abt the manga too lol
idk how to feel abt gyarados for the fire gym, perhaps a charizard that team would've fit the travelling theme whilst still being a fire type
such a great video :)
Thank you! Yeah, I did debate about Charizard but didn't feel right to use a starter. Charizard would make an amazing ace though!
Proceeds to give koga a not poison type pokemon in the thumbnail
Just... like... in the video? What's your point?
@@Dengar_YT I don't know, no offense it's a great video but I didn't expect you to give a poison type gym leader a non- poison type pokemon. Maybe that was the point of the video idk. My bad if it was, I didn't watch it
My crack take is that the gyms should be drastically changed;
Brock - Ground
Misty - Flying
Surge - Moved to Saffron
Erika - Grass
Sabrina - Promoted to E4
Koga - Bug
Blane - Moved to Vermillion
Giovanni - Normal
Loralei - Water
Bruno - Fighting
Agatha - Demoted to Ghost Gym in Lavender
Lance - Dragon
(In this scenario you have to do the Pokemon mansion to unlock the 8th gym)
With this new gym distribution we can more effectively see the regions types. Without a poison gym the large number of poison dual types won't feel like they detract from their gym. And the Elite 4 now has more plentiful types to pull from.
In (the new) order it would go:
Brock;
1, Diglett
2, Sandshrew
3, Onyx
Misty;
1, Butterfree
2, Farfetch'd
3, Golbat
Blane;
1, Vulpix
2, Ponyta
3, Flareon
4, Magmar
Agatha;
1, Gastly
2, Haunter
3, Gengar
(4, Marrowak Optionally)
Erika;
1, Tangela
2, Exeggcute
3, Exeggutor
4, Victreebel
Surge;
1, Raichu
2, Voltorb
3, Magneton
4, Electabuzz
5, Jolteon
Koga;
1, Parasect
2, Venomoth
3, Kabutops
4, Pinsir
5, Scyther
Giovanni;
1, Porygon
2, Persian
3, Dodrio
4, Nidoking
5, Kangaskhan
6, Tauros
Lorelei;
1, Dewgong
2, Omastar
3, Slowbro
4, Vaporeon
5, Cloyster
6, Lapras
Bruno;
1, Primeape
2, Golem
3, Polywrath
4, Hitmonchan
5, Hitmonlee
6, Machamp
Sabrina;
1, Kadrabra
2, Hypno
3, Starmie
4, Mr. Mime
5, Jynx
6, Alakazam
Lance;
1, Dragonair
2, Seadra
3, Areodactyl
4, Gyrados
5, Dragonair
6, Dragonit
I'd say a list like this better uses the types of the region and allows for more creative team compositions. I think it would work even better with some cross gen evolutions/forms.
Such as Leafeon, Espeon, Alolan Ratticate, Alolan Raichu, Alolan Marowak, Annihilape, Golarian Slowking, Surfetch'd, Tangrowth, Kingdra, Paldrian Tauros, and more
Some bold moves but I can't say I'm not interested to play a rom hack of it. Well done!
@@Dengar_YT well lucky you I'm learning how to work decomps to do just that.
This is one of the more out there editions of the Kanto-Gym-Leader-Improvement trend, & actually I think it worked really well!
Glad you liked it!
I learned that from a french guy :
3 minutes in -> ua-cam.com/video/--u0dn8QbxI/v-deo.html
5:18 -> ua-cam.com/video/X4ZdjCVj70I/v-deo.html
That's insane! Not everyday I hear something I never knew about Pokémon!
Loved this! We need a romhack with your suggestions 😊
I'm interested. Is this public anywhere?
@@Dengar_YT Still in development but I already finished the "numbers part". As in, I already rebalanced the pokemon's stats, which moves they learn by tm or level and what level they learn it. The moves themselves were rebalanced, with some being deleted and me creatng new ones.
What's left is finishing recreating the maps , setting the character events and fixing the code for a few specific moves in rpgmaker.
I legit want a game where the gyms aren't "oh i have advantage so I win" so having at least a little variety would go a long way
Yeees! Thank you, someone gets it!
Very cool idea!
Love using Pokemon that fit the gym leader more than the type.
She said if pretty i'd hit
That's a fair argument, honestly!
It does make me like Porygon a bit more though since it's so different to the rest of the team. It makes the player ask why and try to find out.
surprised venomoth didn't make koga's team as it was his ace in the anime.
then again bulbasaur could just use whirlwind and blow all the spores away..
I was tempted, but I want it to lean more into the deadly ninja vibe and I felt that Venomoth was better on Sabrina because she was harder to fix.
Red and Blue
Brock: Level 12 Geodude Level 14 Onix.
Geodude: Rock throw Tackle Defense Curl
Onix: Rock Throw Screech Mud Slap Bide
Challenge mode: Level 13 Geodude Level 13 Omayte Level 15 Onix
For Charmander fans they can find Sandshrew in the grass between viridian city and the league gates which learns mud slap at 10. The scam man will be moved to pewter city pokemon center he will offer a goldeen for 800 dollars as well as Magikarp for 500. Magikarp can learn bubble in this game. Pikachu can learn double kick at level 12. Metapod and kakuna learns absorb at level 9.
Misty: Level 19 Goldeen Level 19 Seel Level 21 Starmie
I added Seel because I remember from Red and Blue that if you talk to a trainer on the right side of cinnabar island they tell you Misty trains there that's where you can find a seel which misty definitely would have added to her team especially since she is a huge fan of loreill.
Goldeen: Peck Supersonic Horn Attack Bubblebeam
Seel: Headbutt Yawn(works the same way like thunder wave just slows down the opponent) Icy wind Bubblebeam
Starmie: Bubblebeam Confusion Supersonic Bide(I would have given it swift but I think it would be better to take advantage of it's good defense and lack of super effective moves against it to counter anybody trying to spam mega punch and mega kick on it)
Challenge mode: Level 20 Goldeen Level 20 Seel Level 22 Starmie
The other two are meant to stall your team with stuff like supersonic and yawn. Starmie having Recover this early in the game would make it a monster the point is to be difficult but since this is the first time pokemon comes out it can't be too hard so supersonic would work. However challenge mode is different story.
Lt Surge: Level 23 Voltorb Level 24 Jolten Level 24 Raichu
Voltorb: Sonicboom Thunder wave Explosion Electro ball
Jolten: Electro ball Protect(To Counter people who go for Dig) Swift(it's neutral in this game but it's still a special move that doesn't miss works well on Diglett's low defense and counter for those who try to go for mud slap) Double kick(Counter to Geodudes and Onix)
Raichu: Electro ball Double team Slam(taking advantage of Diglett's poor defense) Dig(move to cover rock pokemon)
Electro ball is move that does more damage if the user is faster which for most of them they are.
Level 25 Voltorb Level 26 Jolten Level 26 Raichu. They'll be having moves like Ice fang and Ice Punch instead of Double Kick and Body Slam instead of Slam.
Erika: Level 28 Tangela(with the scrapped design added to the game to give it some stat boost) Level 29 Victreebel Level 29 Vileplume Level 31 Exxecugtor
You can't enter the pokemon Casino yet until you battle Erika. Who will make a disguise for you to pass off as an adult also the route before won't have so many trainers. This is to prevent overleveling
Tangela: Rock Throw Substitute Leech Seed Mega Drain(55 power special move)
Victreebel: Body Slam Swords Dance Poison fang Mega Drain
Vileplume: Body Slam Swords Dance Petal Dance(120 base power since it's thrash for grass types) Dance Sludge
Exxecugtor: Hypnosis(it works the same it does in Legends Arceus like paralysis) Dream Eater Leech Seed Mega Drain
Level 30 Tangela(with the scrapped design added to the game to give it some stat boost) Level 31 Victreebel Level 31 Vileplume Level 33 Exxecugtor
Koga: Level 36 Golbat Level 37 Muk Level 37 Tentacruel Level 38 Venomoth
Golbat: Wing Attack Toxic Confuse Ray Shadow Fang(Same as the elemental fangs except meant to counter Psychic pokemon)
Muk: Toxic Minimize Body Slam Ice Punch
Tentacruel: Surf Barrier Toxic Skull Bash
Venomoth: Thunder(Counters Flying pokemon and acts as a nice surprise for anyone going with Fly) Toxic Bug Bite Mega Drain(To cover rock and ground types)
Level 38 Golbat Level 39 Muk Level 39 Tentacruel Level 40 Weezing Level 41 Venomoth
Koga's team is mainly focused on stalling. Tentacruel high defense would be increased with barrier and skull bash while stalling you out with toxic. Toxic/Minimize is also a problem with Muk. Venomoth is good special attacker.
Sabrina: Level 40 Hypno Level 40 Mr Mime Level 41 Slowbro Level 43 Alakazam
Hypno: Hypnosis Dream Eater Skull Bash Meditate(I know he needs a higher level but just an exception in this case Calm mind is too hard for casual users)
Mr Mime: Thunderbolt Substitute Barrier(Would be calm mind but this is easy mode) Physic
Slowbro: Physic Calm Mind Fire Blast Bubblebeam
Alakazam: Psychic Shadow ball Recover Calm Mind
Level 41 Hypno Level 41 Mr Mime Level 42 Jynx Level 43 Slowbro Level 45 Alakazam
In My kanto more bug pokemon would have better moves like leech life having some increased power and bug bite.
Blaine: Level 44 Flareon Level 44 Magmar Level 45 Ninetails Level 45 Archaine Level 47 Rapidash(Except it has better defense and attack stats since it takes long to evolve the player should be rewarded with a bulky pokemon)
Flareon: Flamethrower Toxic Protect Body Slam
Magmar: Thunderpunch Submission Fire Punch Sunny Day
Ninetails: Flamethrower Calm Mind Hyper Beam Electro Ball
Archainie: Flamethrower Thunderfang Roar(it would work like Howl since it's introduced early) Body Slam
Rapidash: Flamethrower Sunny Day Solarbeam Body Slam
Level 46 Flareon Level 46 Magmar Level 47 Vileplume (acts as counter to his team's weakness plus he has one in stadium) Ninetails Level 48 Archaine Level 48 Level 50 Rapidash
You went to the Cinnabar Mansion and found out about some secret projects team rocket did back in the day you would then go to Cinnabar Island after the 7th badge to fight Team Rocket one last time with your rival.
Giovanni: Level 49 Dugtrio Level 49 Marowak(Part Ghost in my version of Kanto) Level 50 Nidoqueen Level 50 Nidoking Level 52 Rhydon(with some better boosts to it's special defense so it doesn't go down in one hit with surf and same reasons as Rapidash takes a while to train so you should get rewarded for it)
Dugtrio: Slash Swords Dance Earthquake Rock Slide
Marowak: Shadow Bone Swords Dance Boomerang Thunderpunch
Nidoqueen(Physical attacker): Ice Punch Body Slam Earthquake Rock Slide
Nidoking(Special attacker): Thunderbolt Surf Earthquake Hyper Beam
Rhydon: Thunder Punch Rock Slide Earthquake Body Slam
Giovanni: Level 50 Dugtrio Level 50 Marowak Level 51 Gyarados(Covers Grass Water and Ice weakness) Level 52 Nidoqueen Level 52 Nidoking Level 54 Rhydon
The Elite 4 would have one coverage pokemon on their team I'll post later.
Love this!
Here's my list (stole some of your ideas)-
Brock:
Kabuto is actually a really good option.
Paras - i figure you catch them right there a mt moon and provides great type coverage.
Onix
Misty:
Psyduck
Seaking (underleveled evo 😮)
Starmie
(May also want to throw on Jigglypuff)
Lt Surge:
Magnemite
Fearow
Krabby/Kingler (same reasoning as Paras for Brock. Its right there...)
I can go either way with Raichu or Electabuzz being his ace.
Erika:
Tangela
Butterfree (love Porygon too though)
Exeggutor
Vileplume (feels wrong not having this as her ace lol)
Koga:
Weezing
Tentacruel
Scyther
Golbat
Venemoth
Sabrina:
Kadabra
Haunter
Porygon (because silph co is right there)
Mr Mime
Alakazam
Blaine:
Rapidash
Seadra (too many people already use Gyarados, but otherwise I would agree with you)
Kangaskhan (love that idea!)
Arcanine
Magmar (makes more sense as the ace me because of the anime
Giovanni:
Dugtrio
Gengar
Nidoqueen
Persian
Rhydon
Mewtwo (yes! But like level 55 to keep it kinda fair. And then he would mention that Mewtwo has escaped or something)
Cant wait to see what you do for the e4!
Are you gonna do one of these vids for Kanto and Johto E4 teams? please?
Honestly, I'm tempted! Maybe with the firered national dex so there's more diversity.
“We are going to chance the move Fire Blast to Flamethrower which sounds a bit silly…”
Hardly!
Everyone loves fire blast for its power but they forget that it has low accuracy and only 5 pp, so you won’t get to use it much and will be lucky if it hits
Flamethrower is a *much* more practical option imo
Agreed!
@@Dengar_YT Also definitely agree that absorb has no business being learned at level *34* (especially when it doesn't learn anything else until then! [granted you can only get it at level 30 but imagine if it was level *5* like in the remakes...)
Also it's not like the game cares about playing by it's own rules either, like with Falkner with his level 9 pidgeotto
@@garg4531 Oh, yes... Johto is on the way and I've already dealt with Falkner and his rule breaking, don't you worry. 👀
@@Dengar_YT Was wondering if Johto would get fixed because that place really is a mess (only half the gen 2 leaders actually use gen 2 pokemon, and even then it’s only their ace)
Elite four video please
My teams for them:
Brock: Geodude, Onix
Misty: Psyduck, Goldeen, Starmie
Lt. Surge: Pikachu, Porygon, Electabuzz
Erika: Tangela, Ivysaur, Victreebel, Vileplume (If fought fourth); Tangela, Venusaur, Victreebel, Vileplume (If fought fifth); Tangela, Venusaur, Victreebel, Exeggutor, Vileplume (if fought sixth)
Koga: Golbat, Muk, Tentacruel, Weezing (If fought fourth or fifth); Golbat, Muk, Tentacruel, Parasect, Weezing (If fought sixth)
Sabrina: Kadabra, Jynx, Hypno, Alakazam (if fought fourth or fifth); Kadabra, Jynx, Hypno, Venomoth, Alakazam (If fought sixth)
Blaine: Rapidash, Charizard, Ninetales, Arcanine, Magmar
Giovanni: Dugtrio, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Persian, Rhydon
Very nice!
@@Horatio786 Yeah, making them in FRLG would change a lot of options!
Though i get why you thought of doubling with Sabrina's team, but i suggest a fun gimmick would be make jynx and mime version exclusive team member with one which isnt found in the wild of one game used by her.
Mime would be abt the force field walls
And jynx cold mysticism or someother cold oriented psychic refernce or referncing her cold personality. She was using a whip during her intial debute.
Good idea!
4:37 listen here, buster.
The Raichus head was surprisingly solid. They'll be fine... Probably...
Dope video! Would love time stamps, thanks
In the pinned comment. ;)
Thank you so much!
One pokey tuber also suggested that the rainbow badge and the Earth bad should be swapped so if you did that it would be perfect rainbow mixed specialist
That's a decent idea!
I would make one change to Giovani’s new team. Give him the fully evolved version of the starter that neither you nor your rival picked, and give it at least one powerful move to counter your starter’s type.
Oooo, I like that!
Omastar/Kabutops (alternate Mt Moon fossil)
Hitmonchan/Hitmonlee (alternate dojo)
Clefable (tank)
Nidoking (bit more badass then Rhydon IMO)
Persian (signature pokemon)
Mewtwo (ace)
I like this setup.
I think Persian should have a water type move (Anti rock-walling)
I'd love if Misty had a Goldeen. Idk how well it fits with the anime but Horn Attack can be quite dangerous at this point, especially to Pikachu's terrible defense
Honestly Goldeen was considered. Could easily do it instead of the Horsea, perhaps?
Yeah sure, but Horsea is not bad either. I mean you explained it and I honestly love that line. Great video
@@jfs3326 To be fair, Goldeen/Seaking is due some love. Very much a forgotten fish.
@@jfs3326 A Water/Electric Mega-Seaking in ZA could be interesting. It'll be a fun typing and would explain it's access to the Lightning Rod ability.
@@Dengar_YT Oh yes and definitely beautiful
Gonna subscribe to you.❤🔥🔥🔥
Those are fair takes!
Happy to have you on board!
@@Dengar_YT happy to be here my guy! Can’t wait to see more vids from you 😁
well... the point of the first gym.. is to learn about match-up, the rival always have a good matchup against you, and in viridian forest, charmander have an easy time while bulbasaur have a less easy time
On first gym even charmander can win, but if the onix just kills you with one rock, while there is no better option than your starter
ADD TO THAT, geodude and onix have sky high defense against early game normal type moves, that way you will learn about special and physical, and you will understand that some pokemon are way better to take physical hits
All of this would be ruined if by choosing charmander you get destroyed by the first gym
Just look at the options:
Rattata: does nothing
Pidgey: dies to a rock
Weedle: dies to a rock beedrill won't help
Caterpie: dies to a rock and butterfree will die if it does not kills
both nidorans: does even less than rattata without stab
Pikachu: does nothing
You can't just take charmander in one move, the player can't do anything if onix has rock throw
TBH the rest of the video is really good but that first gym fix just is not necessary at all
First of all, Bulasaur and Charmander have a equal time in thr forest.
@@Dengar_YT well if you don’t change the pokemon available
Don’t give onix a rock type move
Also I assumed bulbasaur was not good in the forest because of his quad weakness but I forgot nothing get bug type moves lmao
Sabrina should have a Mr. Mime instead of a Kadabra imho
That's fair. I just don't think it fit her stern demeanor.
I think Ditto should be on Blaine's team because of the lore with the mansion and the fact he worked with Fuji
Ditto on a main team team would be fun!
As someone who played yellow as a child starting with pikachu brock does not need any love😂
Give Brock a level 2 Magikarp and level 3 Metadod. Show him what pain really means.
@@Dengar_YT vengeance for my poor pikachu who has fainted over 500 times probably
Red and blue came before the anime so anime pokemon for the gym leaders wouldnt make sense
A good point!
I’d give Giovanni a Marowak because of the team rocket lavender town stuff, a Persian because of the anime and maybe because of the nugget bridge stuff nugget = money Persian has pay day, the fossil you don’t get, Nidoking, porygon from silphco, Nidoqueen
Real interesting stuff here, really like the teams you came up with. Think you should consider losing the skit stuff though.
i think the brock changes were a little liberal, but i do love the changes you made to everyone else!
Actually
Make them use fully evolved pokemon and use 6 pokémon too...
Giovanni is an interesting take and I kinda like it overall as while it IS really different it makes him feel like an alternate rival sorta which he kinda is throughout the game so I actually like what you went for here with him while he is in fact the ground specialist I actually like how you went w/ him and it makes sense while making a much cooler alternative. fantastic as a final boss
Overall some of these were a big stretch and others are just... poor game design but there also were some pretty good ones here too.
@@Dengar_YTare u gonna change that stuff tho
@@Billbobs678 Well I'm not making a ROM hack or anything but if I were to make one with these changes then yeah, 100%.
