What i found for a good fresh tattoo picture is to take it the day after, without any ointment on it. But hey, only if your client is kind enough to come back...
I’m 26 I started drawing last year and my art still isn’t good enough for me to even try to get an apprenticeship. So to hear him say he got his apprenticeship at 30 is honestly reassuring.
Never too late to do what you love. Been tattooing 20 years now, and as everyone will tell you, this industry has changed a fair bit. But if you stick to the basics (good art, nice character to be around, being able to understand what people want) you can do it whatever your age. Making sure your art is solid is a good start cause you can focus on the technical part faster (less stressful for your brain), but you can also improve your artistic skills while tattooing (you will anyway). I feel like the nicer person you are around the easier you'll get an apprenticeship especially if you back it up with art that speaks by itself. Good luck!
Great advice. I started tattooing at 38, after working in Design for 15 years. If you want something enough & work hard towards that goal, you'll get there.
That’s actually so true I love tattooing I’m practing right now I have no real dreams of working in a shop maybe just tat friends more but I stopped and I’ll maybe do it but it’s so fun testing out all the different machines and now rotary and the needle cartridges are wierd and cool but there must be some advancements soon like the needle needs to be attached
What an inspiring story! I’m 29 and started tattooing myself and fake skins earlier this year. It’s easy to feel like I’m too late in the game to catch an apprenticeship, so this gave me a lot of encouragement. What’s the best brand of fake skin? I haven’t found one that I really like and don’t want to f*ck my legs up too bad lol.
Mine and Adams story are IDENTICAL. Quit my job, bought a kit, did fake skins and have a lot of people loving my work. I just need to find a place or an artist willing to pass on the knowledge. If you guys have any opportunities, please let me know, I'll travel from the UK to chase it wherever I need to be. I'll bring my portfolio if need be too.
I just got my own private room at my new shop and this is on my tv all day!
