Chamallow yeah I’ll have to agree I think season 5 that’s when she started to get over it, but the earlier season she enjoyed it and there was no way to work all day if they had school too. Jess also said that they had to film for 4hrs or 5 if I’m not mistaken.

The fact that Mellisa asked the producers how much they paid the judges when Chloe won .... that was absolutely sick .. imagine if your kid won and you overheard some people saying “Did somebody pay the judges for her to win?”. I would lose all my respect for that women ... also when Christi confronted her she was giggling and winking 😧 ... she literally thought of it as a joke.If Christi did that to Maddie, everyone will start attacking Christi like how dare she! And Christi will be labelled as a horrible mom for doing that,but it’s Mellisa!
And the facts she made to be the relatable mom on the show when in reality she was a liar and snake is also bad. Holly is the most relatable mom on the show and that’s a fact.
I hope Melissa has changed, because she was awful, and very fake and it was seen many times on the show. Even Abby called Melissa out for talking trash about her.
I love the fact that Abby is just exposing all these things as if it doesn’t make her look bad. You’re supposed to teach each child fairly regardless of who’s child’s parent is paying for your dinner, it’s hard but it’s professional.

OmfgLivvy12 EXACTLY!!! Someone who understands... They’re are some people who don’t see any issue with a grown woman kissing a child on the lips, (what if Abby was a male teacher?!) And she destroyed Maddies friendships and relationships even with her own sister, which in my opinion is just as bad, if not worse than being yelled at everyday. She was very manipulative and put an insane amount of pressure on that girl. And fed her bad lies, “nobody will be happy for you” If Maddie wasn’t present, Abby would be completely lost.
One of the problems it was that Abby said " look at Maddie she learned the dance in 15 min" . But it was because she already learned on her private lessons. And Abby make every girl feel bad because they couldn't learn it so fast. Abby make this idea that Maddie was this super inteligent girl that can learn a dance so fast(she is a great dancer ) and the other girls are so slow to learn. And Melissa was complicit and lie that they didn't have private lessons. Love your videos, thank you.
I think Melissa was so fake in the earlier seasons but became more herself later on, and I think that’s because her daughters were stars and she no longer needed to kiss anyone’s ass. I also think she is sneaky and secretive but she is a baaad liar. I feel like you can see when Melissa is being herself versus being what she needs to be because she’s a bad actor. Despite all these character flaws I do think she cared so much about the other kids. She didn’t fight for them because that wasn’t her place but she cared a lot. Evidence of this would be her relationship with Paige (and how upset she was when Paige forgot) and lots of other times you can see her in the background of scenes crying, which I think is empathy. Maddie and kenzie are like this too, there are many times you can see them crying when another girl is upset.
I agree with everything you said! She’s sneaky and will do anything even stab children and friends to get ahead! But I saw that same scene and the look on her face you could tell it broke her heart and she actually cared, also when Ashley went after Kendall she and mackenzie were all upset for Kendall and Jill. I think she genuinely cares for some of the kids (not chloe tho) but when it comes to getting Maddie ahead they are just collateral damage to her daughters rise to fame. She lies constantly and is horrible at it and then always has a evil smile when she tries to lie her way out of it
This is a pretty accurate statement to make. What you said about how it's easy to tell when Melissa's being herself versus not also makes me think of the earlier seasons when the kids would do the interviews, which MackZBOSS also actually covered in an earlier DMU. In the earlier seasons, it was very obvious which interviews they did where they weren't being forced to say something for the sake of the show versus when they were. I personally think that (and a lot of credit to another comment on this video which I can't seem to find again for the life of me) she was very much given a character to portray on the show, such as how Christi's was being a drunk, Jill's was the entitled dance mom, and quite possibly Melissa's was assigned as being the liar out of all the moms. I think as the show went on she probably didn't have to lie as much because her kids were the stars of the show in the eyes of Abby and the producers, so she wasn't held as much to a standard of keeping up her persona for the show - this makes a lot of sense to me personally because in the later seasons (such as Season 3 onward, but more going into Season 4) she doesn't quite come off as the lying type as much or at all. She definitely calmed it down later on in the show, and I would bet money that it probably had a lot to do with the fact that her kids were in such high standing with Abby and the producers that she didn't have to work so hard to portray herself as the character she was made out to be for the show. Which also, side-note, the character that Vivi-Anne was given really made me so mad throughout the show once it ended. How she was portrayed as a kid that just didn't like dance, wanted nothing to do with it, but then we got to know that once the show was over, Cathy talked about how much Vivi loves dance. There's videos only posted by Vivi of her dancing in both ballet and tap, and she loves tap. Vivi is a perfect example of being "assigned" a character on that show and it getting stuck to you if you don't have the favor of the producers behind you. Sorry for the long comment lol. melissa was definitely one of the most irresponsible mum's and people barely questioned it. she put maddie's dance career over her school and allowed her to be in dangerous relationships with adults.
there was also an episode where she left maddie and mackenzie in abby's full care for a week while she was going on vacation with her boyfriend. how irresponsible

Definitely possible. Especially since the check was forged with the signature M,M&M (possibly Melissa Maddie Mackenzie) and Abby said she thought a “mother of two little blondes” had the money and that she never saw it. Melissa is a smart woman; the moms have been saying it since the early seasons.
That's exactly why and she did get immunity. Think about it back in Pittsburgh Melissa had a lot of control in the studio there. She was in charge of the desk. She handled tuition and schedules. Which also happens to be how her kids got so many privates. And she delt with a lot of money. At first I thought the deal just came from the check in Australia but now I'm starting to think it comes from stuff that happened in the very beginning
Every mom had a character, for example Christi was ‘a drinker’ and they made Melissa ‘a liar’ the contract stopped her from being honest because she would have got in trouble if she said certain things so it made her look like a liar. I really don’t think she’s a bad person or a bad mom, Abby had too much power and I think it scared Melissa because she didn’t want to hold her kids back.

Shayla Pavone I don’t think they tried to make Melissa relatable. They always portrayed her as sneaky and as the bad guy. That’s why they aired Christy, Kelly, and sometimes even Holly’s interviews of calling a Melissa out for her bad behavior. They never showcased Melissa’s good moments, but instead made a good portion of the show’s viewers believed that she was a bad mother, which had to be extremely hurtful for her to hear.

It’s all, “she’s so much better than Maddie, Maddie sucks because Abby likes her,” and “Chloe should have been the favorite. Maddie’s an awful favorite,” and the most common one, “Maddie is such a brat, she never supports the other kids and is a bad favorite.” Like, she did support the other kids several times. And what can she do about the favoritism? Absolutely nothing.
Melissa got really nasty and rude season 5. There are many times during that season I just want to say to her “do you hear yourself right now? Grow up.” Melissa and Jill were my least favorite moms.
And you remember when the week they were leaving and Abby gave the little girl on the mini team a solo for her special needs brother who was going to be there. And Melissa was all this is my kids week. She was acting like everyone should bow down and kids her and her kids feet. Like I'm pretty sure it took them a really long time for them to plan for her brother to be there with all his health problems and Melissa was upset because she said she was leaving at the last minute. Like that's not something you can just reschedule. I had a cousin who I believe had the same condition as her brother and everywhere we took him had to be planned out months in advance

unfortunately for Melissa, there were many times on the show that made her seem like a very apparent liar. i.e the Maddie and Kalani duet situation, whether or not she spoke to Kelly on the phone about the skipped CD, what really happened with Mackenzie's foot, the cease and desist letter sent to the other moms etc. yes we all know producers can manipulate scenes but unfortunately her track record speaks for itself.
Well for Mackenzie, she actually does have an extra bone in her foot. That was actually real. It’s actually common for dancers. It will cause pain and make you feel like you have an injury, but you don’t/do. I know a few ppl who have an extra bone inside their foot. Two of them had surgery to get it removed because it was causing them to many problems.
I have always said for the character Melissa on the show, she was definitely a compulsive liar in the first few seasons, manipulated by Abby in the middle, and fed up by the end. As for real life Melissa, I’m sure she has told some lies, but that doesn’t make her a bad person.

I think it's sad that in order for someone to get ahead of Maddie or get more private lessons they needed to sacrifice their education. Personally, I've just always believed that school should always come first and you shouldn't have to tamper with that to get more attention from Abby
Exactly and I believe thats why Abby was made a Christi, Kelly, and Holly because they made sure that school came first and she didn't like that she want them to be focus on dance instead of school.

I've seen plenty of kids with inherent talent doing less schoolwork than the average school day. They don't necessarily fall behind. Homeschool can be done in a few hours versus sitting in school for 6+ hours, then there's time for the kid's interest or activity. Not everyone's life is gonna fall into a neat little box that looks like everyone else's. It just looks like a bunch of gross jealousy in this topic. She got ahead because she worked hard and had the resources.

It always bothered me that Melissa called Greg and said, "Call my (or our) attorney. They're doing it again," about the wedding, but then she said Greg called the attorney, not her. It was technically true, but he did it because she wanted him to, so that came off as super sneaky.
And Jill came out and said that Melissa started talking about her not wearing her ring earlier that day it just didn't make it in the episode so when they brought it up later she went berzerk
I'd love to see a video about the MattyB music video. Melissa's insanely competitive, and it never made sense to me that she would blindly sign a contract that didn't give Mackenzie the credit she deserved, especially given that both her girls had had contracts before and she definitively had access to a lawyer. Also the girls had already done the Freaks Like Me video where Mackenzie was billed as a featured artists, so I imagine the contract wouldn't be that different.
That's because Melissa didn't really care about Kenzie as much as she cared about Maddie besides Melissa knows nothing about contracts or how they work so yeah I'm not surprised she signed it

Mari Flores If you look at what Kenzie says though, she’s stated several times that her mother and her sister are her biggest supporters. Would she really say that if Melissa wasn’t supportive? The producers have shown to be very manipulative and purposefully change up scenes. Yes, there were some scenes where Melissa seems to prefer Maddie, but there were also times where Melissa preferred Mackenzie. Like when Christi started yelling at Melissa during Season 1 and Maddie and Mackenzie started crying, Melissa stood up for Mackenzie, not Maddie. She pointed at Mackenzie and said, “Shut up, you’re making my kid cry,” while pointing at Kenzie.

One of the biggest problems I had with Melissa on clips from the show alone is that she'd side with the other moms when Abby wasn't around but would backstab them in front of Abby.
Seeing Melissa not really caring about their schooling, it’s no wonder in season 3 Maddie didn’t seem to care either and never wanted to do her homework because she wanted to go to dance early
It backfired on Melissa that she went dressed in mom jeans in the first episode.. at that point the American looked at the moms personalities and related to them that way.. for example I’m African American so seeing something who is African American on TV I related to Nia plus having a mom with a masters degree I related to them.. but I also related to Christi and Kelly who always spoke up when they seen something unfair happening.
Personally I understand both sides. The producers and Abby wanted to portray Melissa as an easy to like, relatable woman that mothers or girls who watch the show could relate to, so they decided to contrast her casual, loungey outfit that most mothers tend to wear (mom jeans and a simple top) with the other mothers (who Abby wasn’t as close with and didn’t care about their images as much). The other mothers were all fancy and dressed up, portraying them as harder to relate to, thus being harder to like. Not all mothers have the money to have Holly’s Louis Vuitton bag. However, I definitely found myself relating more to their personalities once I delved into the show more and more. I think the outfit thing was just for general first impressions and not for the entirety of the show.

I can only admire Maddie's hard work. They say "advantage" as if it was grated the wins, she literally danced all day long. She was a little girl working more hours than adults.
Just want to clear things up : being a professional dancer or a professional athlete doesn't mean that you don't commit to your education. Most of the time, these children are more efficient in the way they do their school work and learn faster because of their tight schedule. You just study in the evening or the early morning and even on the weekends.
And I'm sorry but can I ask you. If you are married and you all of a sudden are getting a divorce and then say your getting married to another man. And you and this man go through a divorce at the same time and then get married right after wouldn't you expect people to assume you had an affair. And then Leslie said that Melissa told her she was having an affair and took her by his house one day

Melissa was always so odd to me...absolutely no personality through the show and always seemed to be the victim. I think the last season she was on was when she showed her true colors 💅🏻 At least Maddie and Kenzie seem to be doing well for themselves and seem like genuinely good girls.
@March the original girls were already at the studio before the show started. Christi said that the studio was close to their house & Kelly danced there as a kid so it probably has something to do with convenience & familiarity.
Abby black listed dancers that left her studio in the dance world so studios wouldn't take them they couldn't find work it was horrible. One of the moms talked about it on the show
Because Mackenzie wasn’t interested in a career in dance, not as much as Maddie. Maddie always expressed interest in dance and pursuing it as a career while Mackenzie didn’t start pursuing it as a career and taking it seriously until Season 2-3.

I think Melissa should'nt have ever gotten so mad at Maddie for forgetting a dance. You know in ways Melissa is a lot like Abby. She is deceitful to Chloe like Abby, she lies like Abby, she only cares about Maddie like Abby, she hates losing like Abby, its just some stuff that are weird and if your doing that your shouldnt be a mother.
I believe Melissa is a stage mom, but who on this show isn't? You have to be to want your little kids on TV. Melissa came on the show and did what she needed to do to get her kids recognized, and build platforms and then when the show was no longer bringing them opportunities they couldn't get on their own, they left. I think of all of the moms, Kelly was the least "stage mom". She wanted her girls to dance, but I think she would have been fine if they would have been in any normal studio. Her girls didn't need to be superstars, she's always been fine with them being who they want to be.

Destiny King abbey is also a liar, she straight lied about a competition that Chloe won and a judge called her out on it. Other judges also confirm and backed up what this judge said. When chloe won she went to the judges scolding them that she didn’t deserve to win but Cameron did. She threw her own student under the bus. And when Christi found out she called abbey out and the judge said she is lying. That is a pathological liar, to easily lie about something that can be easily disproven. She has also done this on other occasions as well. This is a person who went to jail for fraud, regardless of what she said she had to have known she was laundering money. So whatever she says people should take with a grain of salt. However I will give her this I don’t trust Melissa either and she could have been involved but of course I don’t think Maddie or Kenzie knew about any of this since they were just little kids.
Kenny B I feel like she only liked the Ziegler’s because they were good for Abby’s publicity. There were certainly some genuine feelings, but still. Like, Abby hated Jojo, but now she loves Jojo because she’s one of the most successful girls, if not the most.

It’s sad that they painted holly as an absent mom when there are WAY more absent parents out there in the world. holly clearly cared about nia, but she also loved her job as a principal (which probably requires a lot of time, effort, and maybe sometimes emergency unavoidable meetings). I’m glad Holly was able to be with Nia though and prove Abby wrong that she was truly invested in Nia (which all of us really knew all along that she was)
it bothers me how the abby portrayed maddie as some amazing dancer (dont get me wrong she is) and as someone who could memorize a dance in 5 minutes and that she was soooo much better than everyone naturally, when really she was skipping school for privates and thats why she could "learn" a solo in 5 seconds and why she was better than everyone else. Chloe is my fav and if she had as much private time as maddie, she definitely wouldve beat maddie A LOT more. Disagree with this. Chloe at an older age was still not better than Maddie at age 8. Any experienced dancer can see that chloe was never better than Maddie. If she got more training, maybe her technique would be better but u can’t teach artistry and emotions that chloe truly lacks. In all honesty, Maddie was just simply better than the rest of the originals but all of them weren’t that great.
I was ok with Melissa in the first few seasons but later on like in season 5, Melissa started getting an attitude and was really rude to Holly and the other moms. That’s when I stopped liking her. Her attitude really started getting noticeable on season 5. I would like to see a video on the competitions that the kids actually won or did the producers change the scores for the show? For example, if Maddie really won all of them or if it was just for the show to make it seemed like she won a lot. Also how many times, Chloe actually did beat her in a competition.

I don't think people pay attention to how insane the kids' schedules were. Acting classes in the morning, then school, then leave school to practice during gym, recess, or lunch (which is terrible. Practicing when you're supposed to be eating lunch? Omg.) then go back to school, then go back to the dance studio to film, and who even knows what else. That's a schedule that I wouldn't be able to keep up with as an almost 20 year old adult. How Maddie (and the other kids) managed it, I will never know. They were blatantly overworked, and that mixed with the way the producers constantly stirred up drama and put more stress on them...insane. The fact that they had to deal with such a hard schedule in front of cameras is insane I liked dance moms but I'm glad the show was cancelled so the kids don't have to keep dealing with this shit.
Can we just talk about the zeiglers last episode when Areannas mom was talking about bringing her disabled son to come see Ari perform her solo for him and melissa cut her off to whine about how it's her kids last week and it should be about them 🥴

Is Maddie okay? How the hell is any kid able to handle this packed schedule that's both mentally and physically draining? Not only that, the amount of adults who surrounded this poor child always creeped me out. I hope that she is in a better place mentally right now and is healing her inner child.
So every time the moms accused Melissa of having extra rehearsal time for Maddie and that that's why Maddie always knew her choreography during her "first" rehearsal of the week and Melissa denied it, she was in fact lying. This woman is immoral and ruthless
As someone who watched Dance Moms when they were quite young, watching these videos nearly ten years later really opens my eyes to how messed up a lot of it was. I guess it is often within the realms of reality show madness but the fact that children are almost always implicated in the issues makes it so much more unsettling. Ngl, when I was younger I wanted to go to the DM meet and greets, but looking back at them now for what they are- it's so.. weird? Grown women (like we see Christi and Abby doing in the clips) 'exposing' young kids and their mothers to an audience of preteens (who have paid them 100s to do so)??. It's just weird. I understand wanting to spill the show's secrets for the paying fans, but going into Melissa's finances, telling a story about Maddie (who I'm guessing would've been like 8?) forgetting a solo almost jubilantly? You do great work with your videos btw!
cheer noodle this hits the nail on the head for me too when I first watched the show when I was around 8 I loved it but now that I am older and seeing all the things that happened I can’t help but kinda feel bad for the girls
I was thinking about th meet and greets too. I always laugh seeing the clips because I’m thinking about the parent (who is probably bored as hell) listening to these women gossiping about who lied about this and who deserved that win and thinking “why did I let my kid watch this what the hell is this” all the while their kid is literally listening so attentively or recording it. It’s a strange concept lol I can see why my mom didn’t like me watching it
very strange indeed. if i went to a meet and greet Id want to see the girls dancing, and the moms tell cute lil funny moments. not grown women making fun of children and bringing up very private information imo. but i guess the fans ask questions and they answer them how they see fit. the moms and abby love drama is all i can say🤷🏾♀️

Ok. I get what you’re saying. I think that they all have their negative traits. Melissa was really strict with her girls but I think that as a whole she only wanted the best for them - she’d always pay for extra privates for her girls and she’d avoid getting into conflicts with Abby because she knew that it’d negatively impact her girls. She did put a lot of pressure on them though, especially Maddie. So I see both sides. I personally always liked Melissa because she’d do what was best for her kids. She’d avoid getting into unnecessary conflict to avoid her children getting punished, and she’d let her kids grow and develop on their own without being overly controlling. One problem I always had with most of the moms (Jill in particular), they’d freak out over little things. Abby literally told Kendall to point her foot and Jill threw a tantrum and threw Kendall into a panic. Christi threw a tantrum when Abby asked Chloe to apologize for accidentally hitting Maddie (she wasn’t yelling or anything,) but Christi started name calling Abby, which led into Chloe getting punished later.
Melissa has no morals. Remember when she came after Sari’s special needs son? She constantly defends her children’s racism and homophobia and she literally gives her children away to anyone who would make them money. First it was Abby, now it’s Sia. Oh and let’s not forget her defending Mackenzie for going to a huge party during a pandemic. Tbh I don’t really like the Zieglers... bad vibes

Hell, yeah, she did. If she did all of that just to make her daughters successful, I wouldn't put it past her. Not only that, she and her husband filed for bankruptcy prior to their divorce due to her spending habits and the tuition at Abby's studio for both girls. She bled her first husband dry and luckily for her (though not him), the second husband, is a millionaire. I wouldn't be surprised if the marriage didn't last long. She's never held a job outside of working at the mall, working for Abby, and her husband. She even stated she regretted not going to college and getting a career. So basically her second husband and her kids are financing her lifestyle.

She had regular dance lessons, acting lessons before school, 3 private lessons, competitions, and school. Also where’s your other child during this? This is wild. I remember she eventually pulled them out of school and homeschooled them pretty early on I believe but omg.
I feel like Melissa only wanted what was best for her kids. She clearly had ulterior motives that went beyond just raising good dancers. It was obvious she had bigger plans for her kids. But I don’t find her ways malicious. She took every opportunity to get Maddie ahead. It wasn’t sneaky, it was offered to everyone. Chloe had sooo much potential but Christi refused to play Abby’s little games and kiss up. If Christi did exactly what Melissa did, then her kid would have been winning titles too. The only reason she got treated poorly or even why the Hylands were treated poorly was simply because Christi and Kelly hated Abby and made her life miserable. So she made the kids miserable and set them up for failure. Christi knew it all along she just refused to be like Melissa and when Jill figured it out, Kendall was improving. Kendall just lacked technique and strength and so she wasn’t up to Maddie’s level, but she gave Chloe a run for her money. Christi made fun of Jill for being like Melissa, but it was really the combo of Maddie being a perfectionist and her kiss ass mother who took every opportunity to give Maddie the advantage. I don’t think it was sneaky. If Christi sucked up to Abby as well, Chloe would have been far better than Maddie. Chloe had the lines and the body type and the technique. She lacked in emotion but if she had the same training, she would have improved there as well. I think there’s a lot more to it than just was Melissa sneaky. She wasn’t. But the other moms made it more difficult and unpleasant for Abby who took it out on the kids making them scared of her and less willing to want to work for it.

From what I understand, the reason the mom's would get angry about Maddie learning her solos during her privates was because they were supposed to learn during the Elite team's rehearsal times. So she would be at an advantage.

The fact that Mellisa asked the producers how much they paid the judges when Chloe won .... that was absolutely sick .. imagine if your kid won and you overheard some people saying “Did somebody pay the judges for her to win?”. OmfgLivvy12 EXACTLY!!! Someone who understands... They’re are some people who don’t see any issue with a grown woman kissing a child on the lips, (what if Abby was a male teacher?!) And she destroyed Maddies friendships and relationships even with her own sister, which in my opinion is just as bad, if not worse than being yelled at everyday. She was very manipulative and put an insane amount of pressure on that girl. And fed her bad lies, “nobody will be happy for you” If Maddie wasn’t present, Abby would be completely lost.
One of the problems it was that Abby said " look at Maddie she learned the dance in 15 min" . But it was because she already learned on her private lessons. And Abby make every girl feel bad because they couldn't learn it so fast. Abby make this idea that Maddie was this super inteligent girl that can learn a dance so fast(she is a great dancer ) and the other girls are so slow to learn. And Melissa was complicit and lie that they didn't have private lessons.

I think Melissa was so fake in the earlier seasons but became more herself later on, and I think that’s because her daughters were stars and she no longer needed to kiss anyone’s ass. I also think she is sneaky and secretive but she is a baaad liar. I feel like you can see when Melissa is being herself versus being what she needs to be because she’s a bad actor. Despite all these character flaws I do think she cared so much about the other kids. She didn’t fight for them because that wasn’t her place but she cared a lot. Evidence of this would be her relationship with Paige (and how upset she was when Paige forgot) and lots of other times you can see her in the background of scenes crying, which I think is empathy. Maddie and kenzie are like this too, there are many times you can see them crying when another girl is upset.

But I saw that same scene and the look on her face you could tell it broke her heart and she actually cared, also when Ashley went after Kendall she and mackenzie were all upset for Kendall and Jill. This is a pretty accurate statement to make. What you said about how it's easy to tell when Melissa's being herself versus not also makes me think of the earlier seasons when the kids would do the interviews, which MackZBOSS also actually covered in an earlier DMU. In the earlier seasons, it was very obvious which interviews they did where they weren't being forced to say something for the sake of the show versus when they were. I personally think that (and a lot of credit to another comment on this video which I can't seem to find again for the life of me) she was very much given a character to portray on the show, such as how Christi's was being a drunk, Jill's was the entitled dance mom, and quite possibly Melissa's was assigned as being the liar out of all the moms. I think as the show went on she probably didn't have to lie as much because her kids were the stars of the show in the eyes of Abby and the producers, so she wasn't held as much to a standard of keeping up her persona for the show - this makes a lot of sense to me personally because in the later seasons (such as Season 3 onward, but more going into Season 4) she doesn't quite come off as the lying type as much or at all. She definitely calmed it down later on in the show, and I would bet money that it probably had a lot to do with the fact that her kids were in such high standing with Abby and the producers that she didn't have to work so hard to portray herself as the character she was made out to be for the show.
Which also, side-note, the character that Vivi-Anne was given really made me so mad throughout the show once it ended. How she was portrayed as a kid that just didn't like dance, wanted nothing to do with it, but then we got to know that once the show was over, Cathy talked about how much Vivi loves dance. There's videos only posted by Vivi of her dancing in both ballet and tap, and she loves tap. Vivi is a perfect example of being "assigned" a character on that show and it getting stuck to you if you don't have the favor of the producers behind you.

That's exactly why and she did get immunity. Think about it back in Pittsburgh Melissa had a lot of control in the studio there. She was in charge of the desk. She handled tuition and schedules. Which also happens to be how her kids got so many privates. And she delt with a lot of money. At first I thought the deal just came from the check in Australia but now I'm starting to think it comes from stuff that happened in the very beginning

Every mom had a character, for example Christi was ‘a drinker’ and they made Melissa ‘a liar’ the contract stopped her from being honest because she would have got in trouble if she said certain things so it made her look like a liar. That’s why they aired Christy, Kelly, and sometimes even Holly’s interviews of calling a Melissa out for her bad behavior. They never showcased Melissa’s good moments, but instead made a good portion of the show’s viewers believed that she was a bad mother, which had to be extremely hurtful for her to hear.

Melissa got really nasty and rude season 5. There are many times during that season I just want to say to her “do you hear yourself right now? Grow up.” Melissa and Jill were my least favorite moms.
And you remember when the week they were leaving and Abby gave the little girl on the mini team a solo for her special needs brother who was going to be there. And Melissa was all this is my kids week. She was acting like everyone should bow down and kids her and her kids feet. Like I'm pretty sure it took them a really long time for them to plan for her brother to be there with all his health problems and Melissa was upset because she said she was leaving at the last minute. Like that's not something you can just reschedule. I had a cousin who I believe had the same condition as her brother and everywhere we took him had to be planned out months in advance

Well for Mackenzie, she actually does have an extra bone in her foot. That was actually real. It’s actually common for dancers. It will cause pain and make you feel like you have an injury, but you don’t/do. I know a few ppl who have an extra bone inside their foot. Two of them had surgery to get it removed because it was causing them to many problems.
I have always said for the character Melissa on the show, she was definitely a compulsive liar in the first few seasons, manipulated by Abby in the middle, and fed up by the end. As for real life Melissa, I’m sure she has told some lies, but that doesn’t make her a bad person.

I've seen plenty of kids with inherent talent doing less schoolwork than the average school day. They don't necessarily fall behind. Not everyone's life is gonna fall into a neat little box that looks like everyone else's. It just looks like a bunch of gross jealousy in this topic. She got ahead because she worked hard and had the resources.

I'd love to see a video about the MattyB music video. Melissa's insanely competitive, and it never made sense to me that she would blindly sign a contract that didn't give Mackenzie the credit she deserved, especially given that both her girls had had contracts before and she definitively had access to a lawyer. Also the girls had already done the Freaks Like Me video where Mackenzie was billed as a featured artists, so I imagine the contract wouldn't be that different.

The producers have shown to be very manipulative and purposefully change up scenes. Yes, there were some scenes where Melissa seems to prefer Maddie, but there were also times where Melissa preferred Mackenzie. Like when Christi started yelling at Melissa during Season 1 and Maddie and Mackenzie started crying, Melissa stood up for Mackenzie, not Maddie.
She pointed at Mackenzie and said, “Shut up, you’re making my kid cry,” while pointing at Kenzie.

One of the biggest problems I had with Melissa on clips from the show alone is that she'd side with the other moms when Abby wasn't around but would backstab them in front of Abby.

Personally I understand both sides. The producers and Abby wanted to portray Melissa as an easy to like, relatable woman that mothers or girls who watch the show could relate to, so they decided to contrast her casual, loungey outfit that most mothers tend to wear (mom jeans and a simple top) with the other mothers (who Abby wasn’t as close with and didn’t care about their images as much). The other mothers were all fancy and dressed up, portraying them as harder to relate to, thus being harder to like. Not all mothers have the money to have Holly’s Louis Vuitton bag. However, I definitely found myself relating more to their personalities once I delved into the show more and more. I think the outfit thing was just for general first impressions and not for the entirety of the show.

Just want to clear things up : being a professional dancer or a professional athlete doesn't mean that you don't commit to your education. Most of the time, these children are more efficient in the way they do their school work and learn faster because of their tight schedule. You just study in the evening or the early morning and even on the weekends.

Wow, I've never thought about it this way! I love your deep and detailed analysis of all these situations, it's really making me see this show in a new light. There's so much going on behind cameras, it sort of scares me how much stuff is hiding behind a "fun" reality show.
I think Melissa should'nt have ever gotten so mad at Maddie for forgetting a dance. You know in ways Melissa is a lot like Abby. Destiny King abbey is also a liar, she straight lied about a competition that Chloe won and a judge called her out on it. Other judges also confirm and backed up what this judge said. And when Christi found out she called abbey out and the judge said she is lying. That is a pathological liar, to easily lie about something that can be easily disproven. She has also done this on other occasions as well. This is a person who went to jail for fraud, regardless of what she said she had to have known she was laundering money. it bothers me how the abby portrayed maddie as some amazing dancer (dont get me wrong she is) and as someone who could memorize a dance in 5 minutes and that she was soooo much better than everyone naturally, when really she was skipping school for privates and thats why she could "learn" a solo in 5 seconds and why she was better than everyone else. Chloe is my fav and if she had as much private time as maddie, she definitely wouldve beat maddie A LOT more. Disagree with this. Chloe at an older age was still not better than Maddie at age 8. Any experienced dancer can see that chloe was never better than Maddie. If she got more training, maybe her technique would be better but u can’t teach artistry and emotions that chloe truly lacks. In all honesty, Maddie was just simply better than the rest of the originals but all of them weren’t that great.

I was ok with Melissa in the first few seasons but later on like in season 5, Melissa started getting an attitude and was really rude to Holly and the other moms. That’s when I stopped liking her. Her attitude really started getting noticeable on season 5.
I would like to see a video on the competitions that the kids actually won or did the producers change the scores for the show? For example, if Maddie really won all of them or if it was just for the show to make it seemed like she won a lot. Also how many times, Chloe actually did beat her in a competition.

I don't think people pay attention to how insane the kids' schedules were. Acting classes in the morning, then school, then leave school to practice during gym, recess, or lunch (which is terrible. Practicing when you're supposed to be eating lunch? Omg.) then go back to school, then go back to the dance studio to film, and who even knows what else. That's a schedule that I wouldn't be able to keep up with as an almost 20 year old adult. How Maddie (and the other kids) managed it, I will never know. They were blatantly overworked, and that mixed with the way the producers constantly stirred up drama and put more stress on them...insane. The fact that they had to deal with such a hard schedule in front of cameras is insane I liked dance moms but I'm glad the show was cancelled so the kids don't have to keep dealing with this shit.
Can we just talk about the zeiglers last episode when Areannas mom was talking about bringing her disabled son to come see Ari perform her solo for him and melissa cut her off to whine about how it's her kids last week and it should be about them 🥴

As someone who watched Dance Moms when they were quite young, watching these videos nearly ten years later really opens my eyes to how messed up a lot of it was. I guess it is often within the realms of reality show madness but the fact that children are almost always implicated in the issues makes it so much more unsettling. Ngl, when I was younger I wanted to go to the DM meet and greets, but looking back at them now for what they are- it's so.. weird? Grown women (like we see Christi and Abby doing in the clips) 'exposing' young kids and their mothers to an audience of preteens (who have paid them 100s to do so)??. It's just weird. I understand wanting to spill the show's secrets for the paying fans, but going into Melissa's finances, telling a story about Maddie (who I'm guessing would've been like 8?) forgetting a solo almost jubilantly?

I get what you’re saying. I think that they all have their negative traits.
Melissa was really strict with her girls but I think that as a whole she only wanted the best for them - she’d always pay for extra privates for her girls and she’d avoid getting into conflicts with Abby because she knew that it’d negatively impact her girls. She did put a lot of pressure on them though, especially Maddie. So I see both sides.
I personally always liked Melissa because she’d do what was best for her kids. She’d avoid getting into unnecessary conflict to avoid her children getting punished, and she’d let her kids grow and develop on their own without being overly controlling.
One problem I always had with most of the moms (Jill in particular), they’d freak out over little things. Christi threw a tantrum when Abby asked Chloe to apologize for accidentally hitting Maddie (she wasn’t yelling or anything,) but Christi started name calling Abby, which led into Chloe getting punished later.

i agree 100% about melissa giving her kids away. maddie's relationship with adults is uncomfortable and we see that happen to so many child stars because of ambitious parents.

Hell, yeah, she did. If she did all of that just to make her daughters successful, I wouldn't put it past her. Not only that, she and her husband filed for bankruptcy prior to their divorce due to her spending habits and the tuition at Abby's studio for both girls. She bled her first husband dry and luckily for her (though not him), the second husband, is a millionaire. I wouldn't be surprised if the marriage didn't last long. She's never held a job outside of working at the mall, working for Abby, and her husband. She even stated she regretted not going to college and getting a career. So basically her second husband and her kids are financing her lifestyle.

It makes sense that Melissa is a compulsive liar bc there was always something off about her on the show.
She had regular dance lessons, acting lessons before school, 3 private lessons, competitions, and school. Also where’s your other child during this? This is wild. I remember she eventually pulled them out of school and homeschooled them pretty early on I believe but omg.
I feel like Melissa only wanted what was best for her kids. She clearly had ulterior motives that went beyond just raising good dancers. It was obvious she had bigger plans for her kids. But I don’t find her ways malicious. She took every opportunity to get Maddie ahead. It wasn’t sneaky, it was offered to everyone. Chloe had sooo much potential but Christi refused to play Abby’s little games and kiss up. If Christi did exactly what Melissa did, then her kid would have been winning titles too. The only reason she got treated poorly or even why the Hylands were treated poorly was simply because Christi and Kelly hated Abby and made her life miserable. So she made the kids miserable and set them up for failure. Christi knew it all along she just refused to be like Melissa and when Jill figured it out, Kendall was improving. Kendall just lacked technique and strength and so she wasn’t up to Maddie’s level, but she gave Chloe a run for her money. Christi made fun of Jill for being like Melissa, but it was really the combo of Maddie being a perfectionist and her kiss ass mother who took every opportunity to give Maddie the advantage. I don’t think it was sneaky. If Christi sucked up to Abby as well, Chloe would have been far better than Maddie. Chloe had the lines and the body type and the technique. She lacked in emotion but if she had the same training, she would have improved there as well. I think there’s a lot more to it than just was Melissa sneaky. She wasn’t. But the other moms made it more difficult and unpleasant for Abby who took it out on the kids making them scared of her and less willing to want to work for it.
yes, if they had done everything ad went above and beyond like mellissa. their kids would have gotten the same opportunities, i still don't think it makes it right that abby treated them bad.
That was the real Melissa all along .. She was hiding who she really was but when she thought she didn’t need the show or Abby anymore (Maddie was in the Sia videos) .....that’s when the real Melissa came out (a user , back stabbing snake ) ... Melissa is exactly the person Christi said she was all along and the truth came out ! I don’t agree that Melissa cared about the other kids .. Melissa only cares about her kids ! A person that cares about other children wouldn’t do things to hurt them just to get her kids ahead.. Her empathy is a fake as she is and she has taught her daughters well ! I can’t believe people still think Melissa , Maddie and Kenzie are good caring people! Even after all the evidence that has come out! It’s part of their act to be kind and they use people for all they can ( just like they did with Greg , the Buckinghams , Abby , The ALDC and Dance Moms ) and then ditch them when their done .. From what I understand, the reason the mom's would get angry about Maddie learning her solos during her privates was because they were supposed to learn during the Elite team's rehearsal times. So she would be at an advantage.
The other girls solos often never got finished or they learned it at the last minute that's why they were always so angry
