Review:
This build was a fun one. I could see it taking shape in my mind’s eye with every piece I placed. The details were so well thought out and executed to the nth degree. There’s a curb for the sidewalk and grate for the drain. The crime scene laid out on the first floor was simple, yet complete. There were chalk outlines for every piece and a full forensics kit on the bench. The front door even works by using a hidden gear on the bottom of the nook. (Note: if you play with it too much, the gear comes undone and then it’s an absolute nightmare to reattach - think Sheldon trying to reassemble the toy Penny bought for him and Leonard.)
The top floor is even more detailed. There is a cluttered desk, appropriate for the stereotypical harried detective, bookshelves filled with awards, gin, and other tools of the trade. There’s a grandfather clock and a secret door, an old fashioned bureau with an ancient typewriter and a working drawer hiding a secret. There’s even a chair for relaxing with a cup of tea (or whatever drink of choice) beside it.
The pieces fit together mostly seamlessly. That’s one of the things I particularly enjoy about Cutebee designs. I did have a bit of trouble with the angled wall behind the grandfather clock. I couldn’t get the darn things to stay in there or to line up. Then I realized I’d put the wrong pieces in the wrong places. (They’re very similar, in my defense.) Once I fixed that mistake, everything else lined up as it should, and I had no more issues.
If you get the chance to build one of these… don’t hesitate! Totally worth it.
