In episode 14 of our deer management series with Chris Rogers on Shooting & Country TV (S&C TV), he's out on a mission to catch up with some fallow prickets. The fallow are extremely hard to stalk on Chris's land, tending to cross over the boundary and only show themselves at very first light, or very last light... unfortunately for us, we chose first light to have a crack at reducing the numbers, which meant a 4am start for the crew!
Luckily, Chris knows his ground better than the back of his hand, and has a very good idea where the fallow herd is likely to be, and at what time. But that's only half the battle won with these hyper-alert deer. As herding animals, fallow deer present a difficult stalk - rather than one set of eyes and ears keeping look out, there are many, and so extreme stealth is a must if you want to be successful!
Find out how Chris gets on and whether he manages to make a dent in the numbers in this latest episode of Deer Management on Shooting & Country TV!
Great video Chris it’s nice to watch someone who knows what they’re doing and knows the ground like the back of there hand and 2 deer 🦌 to boot. Brilliant can’t wait for the next one and thanks for sharing. 👍
Another cracking video. Takes some patience and skills to take two from that herd.
Thanks Ben, your continued support and comments on the videos is greatly appreciated!
Cracking video !! Enjoyed watching
Good video guys 😉
Excellent. Thank you.
Always look forward to your videos some great ground to stalk and four species of deer no sika?
What’s the face vail your wearing 👍
Thanks, it the Harkila lightweight camo mesh facecover.
That’s easy stalking really!Try hunting the pine forests of Scotland with the severe ground and obscuring plantations-a lot harder to find there!Extraction can be a nightmare on times!Enjoyed the video though!😉
Nice video 👍🏼
I'm a big supporter of driving across the crop for the recovery 😄 deffo not a fan of dragging them too far 👌🏼
Would love to see your gralloching method. We all have our own way but it's always nice to see how others do it 👍🏼👍🏼
To be fair usually I would drag off but it's been so dry I could drive carefully down the beet rows to extract. Gralloching vids to follow at some point.
6m 17 in, grey one looks like it has a limp?.
Chris why do you not want fallow on the estate when u have roe red and muntjac ?
He did say they do a lot of crop damage so that will be the reason.
The crops are under enough pressure with the red and we have plenty of deer to worry about with the other species without encouraging fallow onto the main estate...
Hi I see that you don’t carry on and cut up and through the H bone .
That will be some very tasty venison :)
