oh my friend that is only because you have not listened to enough megadeth. trust me my friend i do strongly recommend that while cleaning the house one day you just jam this record and then maybe the next week jam rust in peace. after you do that come back here and tell us all how you're still not a fan.
R.I.P. to Megadeth's original drummer Gar Samuelson, who played on the first 2 Megadeth records (this was the 2nd) before he was fired in 1987. He passed away in 1999, and Dave Mustaine credited Samuelson for his role in defining Megadeth's early sound. Dave Mustaine did most of the guitars, and one brief solo section in the middle was guitarist Chris Poland (who was also fired in '87, but played solos on a 2004 Megadeth record) Dave had written a few songs about Diana, his GF at the time, and she also inspired this song... 'Last rites/ Loved to death'.... Their breakup also inspired the Megadeth songs 'Trust' and 'Almost honest'... Mustaine married his wife Pam back in 1991 and has 2 children w/ her - son Justis and daughter Electra Mustaine... Their relationship was a rocky one, but they r still together.
One of my biggest regrets is never seeing Gar Samuelson in action. I didn't get into Megadeth until their third album. By that time, Gar was out of the band. I never even heard of Gar Samuelson until Dave started talking about his early days around the Rust In Peace and Countdown to Extinction days. And from what Dave said about him, it sounded like he was on the level of a John Bonham, you know? And THAT frustrated me to pieces because by the time I heard about him, he was already dead. Rest in peace, Gar. I wish I could've seen you play live.
@@ANativeWroteThis There are some videos of Gar playing. Granted they aren't the best but it's better than nothing. Gar's a personal drumming hero of mine, it's such a shame he couldn't overcome his addictions. The guy was a hell of a drummer and actually a very good guitar player from what I've read. Would have loved to see him on more Megadeth albums together with Chris. At least we got 2 albums from them (which happen to be my favorites haha). He definitely left his mark with Megadeth.
Gar Samuelson!! He was a Jazz inspired Metal drummer that had a style all his own!! One of the greatest drummers ever IMO. Gone way too soon. RIP Gar!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
This is my absolute favorite by Megadeth. What more could you need/want in a metal song. That galloping heavy riff, time changes, tempo changes, many amazing solos and the drums yeah.
This is my favorite too. Loved it since I had this album on cassette tape as a kid back in the 80s. Love that unconventional song structure and the tempo changes. All musicians were at the top of their game on this. Watching Dave play this live is awe inspiring.
The drummer was Gar Samuelson. He and Chris Poland (the other guitarist) played together in a fusion jazz band prior to joining Megadeth. There may be some drummer's as good as Gar but nobody can put him on the shelf.
I heard in a documentary once other drummers from that era talking about the drummer here, Gar Samuelson, and said he was like a praying mantis behind the drums, everything was so smooth and effortless. They said they used to watch him from the side of the stage.
Sweet reaction video. The official video of this song is absolutely crazy. The band is playing onstage, encased in a cage of chain link fencing. This extends some twenty feet or more into the air, right? You got guys halfway up, thrashing about as well as MANY fans doing stage dives (remember those?) Pure mayhem and good fun,...you really should check it out.
I kind of liked this song when this album first came out, then forgot about it (This album is fantastic, but it also contains their best song, Peace Sells, which tends to overshadow even great songs like this one.).Then, about 17 years later, I saw a Megadeth concert with a live version of this song and thought I should revisit it. Now, I put it in their top ten songs. This song is a perfect example of what differentiates Megadeth from all other Thrash bands, the complex song structure Metallica does this some, but nowhere near as frequently as Megadeth does and nowhere near as quickly. Those changes, as well as key and chord changes, can make even short songs seem like they are 5 or 6 minutes long (Which is a good thing.). This song is only about 3 1/2 minutes long, but there are at least 4 tempo changes, plus multiple key changes as well. Many people who dislike metal don’t want to admit this. but these guys know their stuff (Especially this band). They aren’t just playing fast and loud. There is an art to it and a reason for everything they do. This song is a perfect example of that.
Love the whiskey face and chest rub. I learned in Scotland that if it burns, you need to drink more. "A dram a day keeps the burn away." Also, the whiskey face is perfect for the breakdown part of this song. Always a great reaction!
Dave mustang is one of the best most precise guitar players I've ever listened to other than dimebag Darrel from Pantera.. You should listen to Cemetery Gates from PanterA..one of the best n saddest songs ever in my book
Hollow and Cemetary Gates made me realize that Pantera was something different as far as metal bands go. The best part of Cemetary Gates is the end, where Phil falsetto’s those ridiculously high notes and Dime matches him. It amazes me that, even in falsetto, Phil is still pretty loud.
I have been following you for your view on politics and whatever but didn’t know you did music reviews, love that you can objectively listen and appreciate what i grew up listening to my whole life.👊👍 I’m a 53 year old male BTW.
All the Megadeth drummers are top notch. To watch the goats, check out Dave Lombardo of Slayer (South of Heaven) and Igor Cavalera of Sepultura (Desperate Cry). These guys are on a whole different level.
I think you're ready for the band "Death".. they have 7 incredible albums and the possible founders of Death Metal. Check out the title track "Symbolic"... with lyrics.. you're welcome
To piggyback on my previous comment, it is amazing to watch Megadeth after the early years. Metal is a chaotic musical form, but through all that chaos and histrionics, Dave maintains the most orderly metal concert I have every seen. I don’t know how he stays so calm playing the blistering solos he does (Quite honestly, most of his guitar work is blistering, solos or not.). Even his body language is calm, despite the speed and volume at which Megadeth plays.
You need to go back to the beginning and listen to a few songs off Megadeth's first album, Killing is My Business... Any of these three songs would be a good jumping in point, 'Last Rites/ Love to Death', 'Rattlehead' or 'Looking Down the Cross'. There's not a bad song on this album so any of the original eight songs off the original mix would be great. There are two remastered versions. While both remastered versions make up for the less than stellar sounds of the original, I prefer the original as many others do to. Megadeth!
Man, listen to peace sells but who's buying by megadeth... on youthinasia is an awesome song.. Dave mustang was one of the original Metalica band members
Well...if you want to know if it "was worth it", check out In My Darkest Hour and Tornado of Souls if you haven't already. Continuation of the relationship. ;) Also...excellent songs!
There is only two guitarists play rythum an lead guitar one is their first lead guitarist Chris Poland, an the other being the fonder and singer and the original lead guitarist for Metallica is Dave Mustaine
I need a laugh emoji. Funny I was just listening to this and you popped up. Hey I love metal and rap,the only two music's saying anything thats even relevant . I mean even new country music is stuck on the same 5 subjects.
I always think because he doesn't say "My other lover", instead he says "the other, other lover". It makes me think he has 3 girls. Maybe he just repeats other for artistic purposes, but if I was talking to a guy and he said his other, other lover, I'm gonna think he's got 3 girls.
Awesome tenan.. Would u please doing reaction to Alip_Ba_Ta fingerstyle who did rendition of Queens 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.. this was appreciated and reposted by Brian May on fb page on 21 oct 2019.. Alip_Ba_Ta also played some covers and original songs.. he has huge fanbase, with over 5 milion subs.. and he will blow ur mind away.. it should be more fun dude.. thanks 👍❤️😘🇮🇩
If you like this let turn you on to suicidal tendencies this band has the black version of dave mustang on the guitar and the song I'm going to give is the one you shold play for those feelings before facts woke weirdos ya it's real first song on lights camera revolution, you can't bring me down
Dave’s material is what wrote the first two albums of Metallica even tho they kicked him out … hence why Metallica just starts sounding shity the older they get while megadeth always sounds good even THERE NEW SHIT
I'm not a Megadeth fan but I'm a fan of Van and his LFR family channel.
Thanks for always being entertaining.
You rocks Warren! Thank YOU for the love and support.

i’m glad people here are crediting gar. he’s personally my favorite megadeth drummer. i love how laid back and intuitive his drum parts are.
GAR WAS GREAT AND REALLY UNDERATED DRUMMER.HE DOES NOT GET THE CREDIT THAT HE DESERVES,GOD BLESS HIS SOUL RIP@@blunderless
Dave is a composer of the best Thrash ever. Guitar Supremacy.
That's the name of the game.
I'm with ya all the way with any Megadeth.
100% agree. Dave is the ultimate.
Gar Samuelson was a great jazz drummer and one of the best drum breakdowns ever.
To bad the guy was an addict and sold all their gear for drugs before a tour...
One of my biggest regrets is never seeing Gar Samuelson in action. I didn't get into Megadeth until their third album. By that time, Gar was out of the band. Yes. His drumming on this album is so intense. My personal favorite runs are on Devil's Island, Bad Omen and Good Mourning/Black Friday

Hell yeah. 3:12 on Van's face was like all of ours in the 80's when this shit dropped. It's a fuckin masterpiece.
This song was crazy as hell. LOL Fun joint
502 from So far, So good, So what! album, amazing song from Megadeth

That riff after the intro was used for the original season of Headbanger’s Ball on MTV
Wasn't it the bass line from Peace sells ?
Edit: Peace sells was used during the MTV news bits.
@@GlamprinceRockking That too, yes
Nope, that’s peace sells
Love the whiskey face and chest rub. I learned in Scotland that if it burns, you need to drink more. "A dram a day keeps the burn away." Also, the whiskey face is perfect for the breakdown part of this song. Always a great reaction!
This whole song is a musical masterpiece! I’d love to head bang to just the instrumental version!
Dave mustang is one of the best most precise guitar players I've ever listened to other than dimebag Darrel from Pantera..
You should listen to Cemetery Gates from PanterA..one of the best n saddest songs ever in my book
I'd rather have a PANTERA, than a MUSTANG !!!
It's Mustaine....and I agree about his guitar playing.
Love Pantera but Cemetary Gates has been over done on youtube reactions. I'll suggest Use My Third Arm, Heresy and Sandblasted Skin.

Love how you list the lyrics as they come up. Really helps people follow along without giving too much away. Thanks for the extra work!
Thank you for all of your honest feedback and great content! I grew up in the 80’s and on heavy metal! One love!
Saw them in concert in 1988. Didn’t always know the lyrics back then. No Internet.
I think you're ready for the band "Death".. they have 7 incredible albums and the possible founders of Death Metal. Check out the title track "Symbolic"... with lyrics.. you're welcome
there is something magical about someone discovering music you have loved for decades and seeing that reaction.
My Favorite from this album. A blast to watch you react to it. Love you dude.
I'm really glad you are going down this path!!! Tornado of souls!!!
it was the checking the watch for me haha good vid man. definitely a good soon song to listen to for anyone getting onto metal

Great song. RIP Gar. You gotta watch the video for this!
Actually a pretty funny take on Diana's name check! Never thought of it that way. HA
Due at 3:23 is chris poland. check his album return to metalopolis out.
Megadeth is one of my favorite bands! You need to see them in concert 🤘🖤🤘
Hahahha best reaction. One of the hardest tracks ive heard, Megadeth is serious business

thanks more early megadeth, cheers bloke from Australia
Cheers!!!
Loved the reaction, great seeing people reacting to multiple genres of music. There is too much out there to be closed minded! Subbed and Subscribed!
Hey Van! Glad you got to this. Gar was on another level
*Megadeth - In My Darkest Hour"*
That song was inspired by the death of Cliff Burton, but, also, about the infamous Diana
Cincinnati Reds dope hat. I'm a Rockies fan myself.

This is one of songs from megadeth I like, RIP Gar samuelson
This song...the best transition of metal music history💪🤘
BEST HEAD BANGING SONG OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please check out their song Hook In Mouth
Liar is a good one from Megadeth. If you want a goofy song check out Don't Call Me Dude by Scatterbrain
Live me some Scatterbrain. A lot of people are sleeping on them

The song came out when I was 16 and I think I played wake up dead on the guitar for 3 months straight.
Gar samuelson and chris poland excelent
RIP GAR
Megadeth's members were like 20 years here; you cannot take the lyrics 100% serious. It is halfway cool/good, halvway serious.

Chris Poland is crazily under-rated, but his work on this album is amazing
You need to react "As I'm" from Dream Theather.
Have you watched the music video to this song? Amazing

2 records and I’m out. Dave played more riffs in one song than most bands played on their entire record. Gar was a beast on the kit! RIP.
I always think because he doesn't say "My other lover", instead he says "the other, other lover". It makes me think he has 3 girls. Maybe he just repeats other for artistic purposes, but if I was talking to a guy and he said his other, other lover, I'm gonna think he's got 3 girls.
2 Guitarists doing all that,,,,,,along with a bass of course

This is the most hardcore song about cheating ever made.
You must check out Dave mustaine and lamb of God remake it's amazing
I'm happy you recognized the play of the drummer, Gar was super talented! Drugs ended his career
