My dad's ancestors were Vikings who migrated to America hundreds of years ago via Nova Scotia, down into North Carolina, then they took the southern route of pioneers to settle in Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma & Texas. It may be one reason I feel such a kinship with Scandanavians & love the bushcraft videos from there.
love the cinematic scenes in this video. I need to get a kuksa but they are quite expensive over here (around €60, the birch ones). Thanks for the history! I watched a documentary about vikings recently. They were incredibly tough and smart people. Even in turkey a name of a viking was carved into an old christian church. I've also heared russia got it's name from the vikings (or was it the sami people?) If i remember correctly it means the land of the rowing people. another Incredible thing that many people don't know is that half of the english language is old Norwegian as it was ruled by a Norwegian king back in the days. Faroe islands are nordic as well I thought. Scandinavia did so much more in history then we actually get at school. It was all about ceasar haha. Thanks a lot for the history lesson! I love Scandinavian history and mythology. Norway made such a good choice making the oil property of Norway. I love coming to Norway. Been there 5 times now and still feel there is so much more to see (Haven't been more north than Bergen up to now). I climbed the trolltunga last year. kind-off touristic but atleast all very fit tourists up there haha. I do a lot of free-roaming in Norway. Explore mountains and have lunch in nature. I hope Norway can stay like it is and doesn't overpopulate like so many other countries now do. Less people means more freedom. When you enter Norway there is like a vibe when you enter. You just feel the incredible beauty and also the harshness of the landscape. It just reminds you how tough people had to be back in the days to live there. I might share some videos of my trip to norway soon. Love Norse music as well. Been a fan of Wardruna for quite some time. Even kinda like the Sami folk music. Very nice give-away! keep up the cool vidoes. You deserve the subs! Thanks for always checking out my videos I also really appreciate that! Best to you! - Maarten
+Dutch Bushcraft Knives Thank you for the kind words my friend. The Vikings did their fair share of shaping Europe into what it is today. The viking king who ruled England I believe was a Danish guy named Knut. Most Viking enthusiast focus on the rape and plunder part of history. I really want to see if i can find out how they went about in the wilderness. I am not familiar with Wardruna. I will definitely check them out. The Sami folk music and "joik" is something special. One of the most captivating concerts I have been to was with the Sami artist Mari Boine. She is not exactly traditional but she certainly is inspired. The kuska I use is "Godkoppen" from a company called Eagle Products. I am really happy with it. I don't know if they send stuff to Holland but you could send these guys a email and ask. www.xxl.no/eagle-products-trekopp-godkoppen-stor/p/1060852_1_style If not, you should try to pick one up if you come back to Norway. If you want to travel up north some time I would recommend going to Lofoten and watch the midnight sun. That is magical :) Thanks for the stuff you do - Martin
I love your Norwegian woods. Would be a perfect place for me... And so under populated! You could not see anyone else for days and I love that. That law you have about being able to camp 'anywhere' for 2 days, well that's just brilliant, I wish the UK was the same, but unfortunately, the island is small and we have too many people here.
+Paul Blat The area where I camped this time is quite popular for hiking, but I didn't see anybody else on this trip. I read that they have the same kind of laws up in Scotland. Thanks for watching - Martin
Thank you for bringing this history to us. So many of us are interested in the Nordic culture and ways in the woods. looking forward to learning more. Thanks again.
Thanks my friend. I have plans for more videos. I have been a little busy with life lately but I sure hope to post videos more frequently soon :) - Martin
So very beautiful. Fun to see your new toys :D and the history is fascinating. It's like your roots are all the way over here in Wyoming... Thanks, Jules
Finally! Another high quality video! Thank you for this very informative video, and hopefully more will come soon! I've been waiting a while, good to see you back. I hope everything's well.
+NorwegianWoods yeah hopefully it'll be soon, this is by far my favorite UA-cam account. You have a unique style of making these videos and your channel hits with my two favorite topics; outdoors and Scandinavian history. Very good channel my friend, keep up the good work!
Your videos are always good! Always happy to see you uploaded another one. You make it so interesting! By the way, you are so calming, I am sure you would calm me down in no time if I had a panick attack. You seem so friendly and at peace. Love it.
We have been anxiously awaiting your next video,so we were thrilled to see this posted! What a beautiful place! the scenes you shared in this video are spectacular! The history you shared was very interesting!A big congratulations on over 1,000 subs! That's awesome! Might as well count us in on your drawing! Anxious for your next vid! Thanks for sharing!
Hey Brother Martin, enjoy all your vids when you get time to do them, keep making them! Great info, everyone needs to learn history and culture. Might help everyone get along better! Keep rocking bro!
Hi, I am 13 years old and from Canada. I discovered your channel a few months ago and have enjoyed watching your videos with my family. I am always surprised how much the scenery looks so much like Canada. I really liked your video on tarp set ups and I tried a few myself. I would love to get the book you showed in your last video. Please keep making your videos so I can keep watching them.Matthew
+Matt W Hello! I am happy to hear that you like my videos. I don't know how it is with age and knives in Canada. I will count you in for the draw, but if you win I would like one of your parents to confirm that it is ok to send you the knife. I think Canada and Norway have a lot in common. Take care and enjoy the outdoors :) - Martin
I like what your doing with your channel love watching, im also from scandinavian history (Denmark) from my mothers side so i am very interested in the history that you put in your videos please keep them coming great job enjoy.
I subscribed a couple weeks ago and was glad to see a new video show up on the list! I like that you take the time to shoot the landscape around you in addition to the topic you're covering in the videos. Keep 'em coming!
As Mr. Barton said. I too enjoy. the historical perspective and your tutorial on the Scandinavian people was greatly appreciated. Many people often don't know how the customs and ways of diverse cultures influence our daily lives. This is why I enjoy Lutefisk during Christmas, however, my wife makes me eat it outside. :-D
It was really nice of Mr. Barton to give my channel a shoutout. I want to make more videos on these topics. It is a perfect excuse for me to learn more about our history. You are right about that this influences our modern lives more than we often think. You should try a little Rakfisk some time. That will really challenge your wife :) Thanks for watching - Martin
I'm a new subscriber, Martin, and glad to have found your channel. Love the history of Norway...especially regarding the Vikings. The concept of dispersed camping in your country is brilliant. Here in the U.S. we outdoorsman are often overwhelmed by local, county, state and federal regulations and laws. One has to do much research prior to hiking and/or camping on any property; and always check with the nearest ranger station or office of authority. I've had fishing gear nearly confiscated while fishing in Oregon out in the middle of nowhere. I was licensed but there was a ban on fishing on that particular shoreline which I was not aware of. He let me go with a written warning. Now that I'm retired moving to Norway seems like a great opportunity or option.
Very, very interesting video Martin!! I´ve learned somethings about your culture that i really didn´t know about! And i must say that you are surrounded with the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen! Congrats on you channel!
+João Manuel Fabião da Silva Glad you liked it. There are a lot to see and a lot to learn so I don't think I will run out of stuff to film anytime soon :) Thank you for watching - Martin
I enjoyed this video also because the historical knowledge you shared. I encourage you to do these researches! Knowledge is much more precious and teachable in context. Very few bushcrafters, survivals think this way.
Interested ? I am ! I like Mora Knives ! But here, sadly, they are not that cheap... .I like history a lot, and found out a couple of years back, that I apparently have a link up north.... got diagnosed with ' the Viking disease '.... Dupuytren is its official name. My people have lived practically the same way here : the men went fishing, the women repaired the nets, did a little farming on the side. What they didn't eat, was sold to pay the owner of the piece of land they lived on... . A little variation on the theme, but poor they were. Still can remember those mornings when I was a kid : kippers for breakfast, or oats. Sour herring and potatoes done in their jackets for dinner, and lots of fish, 6-7 days a week... all kinds all sizes, we ate them !!! Miss those days now.... getting old I guess :D
+LycanthropiesSpell I count you in on the draw :) It was a hard life back in the days. It is a really interesting history though :) Thanks for watching - Martin
your sleep system looked like it's warm.Enjoyed seeing the scenery of your country. would like to hear more about the history. It would be cool to get a Mora and a book. And I really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Another great informative video Martin. Love hearing about the outdoors life in other countrys. That was a nice giveaway. I have a few knives but my go to knife is always my Mora. Nobody should be without a Mora.
+Just Outdoors Thanks for stopping by! I have had a few trips since my last video but I didn't have the opportunity to film it. - Martin

The "husman" is "torppari" in Finnish. We had the same system here. Changes in agriculture and therefore in the contracts between land owners and "torppari" was one of the main reasons for the civil war in 1918.
+Jaakko Mäntysaari That is some interesting information. Our ancestors had some challenges back in the days. I am glad thing have turned a little better :) Thank you for watching - Martin
+SCOTTISH WANDERER It was a nice spot. Usually where I stayed is an island but now they have lowered the water levels so it is possible to walk out there. Atb - Martin
Your videos are very good, both in quality and information. I find it very interesting to learn about fellow European countries' cultutre and history alongside as well. I'm looking for more. Greetings from Hungary.
Thanks for another video! Very interesting and some really nice scenery and timelapses, the new camera seems to work well. Maybe a small tip, when you got your sleeping matras and bivvy bag out of their stuffsacks, I always put a rock, waterbottle or a knee on it, they can fly away really easy I have learned. Especially when you go higher up. And thanks for the tips about traveling in Norway, I'm planning a trip this summer, but hadn't heard about DNT before. Man, I'd love to go live in Scandinavia some day, or at least have a cabin or something :D Have fun outdoors!
+Erinaceus Europaeus Thanks for the tips. I can imagine that it is easy for the wind to snatch that kind of equipment and make it fly. Maybe I see you in the woods around here some day :) Glad you liked the video - Martin
Great information! Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Looks like a really nice place to camp as well. Being of Finnish/Norwegian descent myself, I would love to visit both countries at some point in the future. Congratulations on the growth of the channel! I know I have enjoyed your videos and I have not even finished going through the back catalog (I am new to the channel). Would love to be in the drawing for the knife and book!
Martin, thanks very much for such an interesting video. I am looking forward to your videos on Norwegian history and bushcraft. you mention the emigration of Norwegians to America during the 1800's. if I am not mistaken I read that over 25℅ of the population at that time emigrated to America. take care and I look forward to your next video.
+Cantab Hiker Thank you for stopping by. I read that about 900.000 norwegians left to USA an Canada. That is crazy numbers. I am looking forward to learn more about this part of history myself :) Atb - Martin
Count me in for the giveaway! It's inspiring to see/hear your history in English. Embarrassingly, I only know English and I have a difficult time explaining things as well as you have in a foreign tongue. Thank you and I hope to see more!
This video is on such interesting topics that it continues to attract new viewers. As you say, life in the United States was difficult for Norwegian immigrants...but under our Northwest Ordinance, governing settlement of 'Western' lands, Norwegians who came to Minnesota, for example, could homestead 160 acres of land; improving it over five years of active farming and then own the land for a small filing fee.
Hi from New Zealand Martin. I have enjoyed your videos immensely. I was lucky to spend much time in both Norway and Sweden in my distant youth and now can relive some of my past through you. I should like to add that another Scandinavian race are the Scots; we have much Viking blood in our genetics and we also had our king of the Shetlands who was Danish. For many years now I have lived in New Zealand and though in my eighties still spend much time in the bush. Regards, Tony
What a nice video again Martin! Beautiful surrounding and filming is it Böksjön? its fantastically inspiring anyway, and thumb up with history, go for it its very interesting.. thanks for that!
Thanks for the kind words. This is filmed by Store Erte, a lake about 5 kilometres north-west from Böksjön. I have plans for more videos on history :) - Martin
hi Martin.first, congratulations for your english.secondly, i really appreciate your pedagogic speech and your beautiful images.then, thanx for learning me the "2 nights in the wild"'s law. i plan to visit scandinavia in my van (just 2 matress, some good sleeping bags and an alcool stove :) )and that will help us A LOT!
Thank you for the kind words! I hope you get a good experience when you come to scandinavia. If you go in the summer months you should bring something against the mosquitos as well :) Thanks for watching - Martin
Hey ! Says the Canadian sausages again, lol . The gears or artifact are so beautiful. The history oldo summary was great. Here in Canada viking sail as far west as now call newfoundland, we found a few artifact, that was before Columbus. Anyway nice beauty shot. thank you.
Amazing stuff! Just about a month ago read couple of books of Trygve Gulbranssen! Really impressed with those times. Of course the viking era is very interesting, but it isn't the only one interesting era in the history of Scandinavia. Thanks for a vid!
Nice video overall and I hope to hear more from you! I might actually be interested in entering the giveaway. I really liked Cody Lundin's attitude on Dual Survival and he is a wise man indeed. I've been tempted to order his books as well.
Norway is a nice country to visit if you like the outdoors. If you decide to come to Norway I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Just send me a message :) Thanks for watching - Martin
Hi Martin great video I'm all so very interested in Scandinavian woodsmen history. Maybe I can come over a meet up for a camping trip sometime!!!!! Looking forward to the next video Jay
Hi Martin, nice sleep set up which looks pretty cozy. Skandinavia has a long outdoor tradition and this is still alive from my point of view since a lots of people practicing it. Congrats to your growing channel, l will participate on the givaway ;-) ATB. Franz, bugikraxn
+bugikraxn The traditions are very alive up here. Some of the old crafts are lost but I hope to find and share some of what is left. I count you in on the draw :) Thank you for watching - Martin
Wonderful video and I'm interested in the 4 topics you'll be talking about soon. I'm very interested in the Nenets in Russia so I'm looking forward to your Saami topic. Another great video by you, especially the shots on the lake! All the best, Stella
+Stella P. There are a lot of interesting history I want to look more into regarding the Arctic people. I did a course on the Sami religion a few years back. Maybe that could be a topic for an interesting video some time. I don't think I will run out of stuff to make videos about anytime soon :) Glad you like the video - Martin
Just stumbled across this video looking for bivy bag ideas! I always used to love bushcraft as a kid, although I didn't realise that's what I was doing :P To me back then it was always just about exploring, building shelters and lighting fires :P Anyhow, I've got back into it recently but quite seriously! Loved all the info in this video and how it was presented :) Brilliant youtube channel I'll stick around for more! :D Giveaway looks really interesting too ~ some useful stuff! Keep up the great videos :)
+Flynn Owen I guess it is the same thing for me. As kids me and my friends played out in the woods all the time. The bushcraft thing is more of a new word put on old things. Glad you like the video. I count you in for the draw :) Thanks a lot for watching - Martin
Yes Martin the information about the Nordic, Scandinavia countries, and of course the Vikings would be very interesting and I can't wait to hear it from you in Norway. Starting with your sweater, is it a setesdal style? Your video editing and the scenery you show is really really good. Please also give more information about the knives you show at 11:25 & 12:25. For now Takk (that's all my Norwegian, for now)
+Rick Green I don't know bout the origin of the pattern of the sweater. My mother made it for me a few years ago and I like it a lot. Glad you like the video. The first knife is this: www.kellamknives.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_33_128&products_id=853 It is in the stye of many knives that has been found in female viking graves. I really don't know what they where used for but I like the look of it. The second one is this: www.helle.no/products/knives/lappland/ It is a stainless steel version of the traditional knife used by the Sami people. It is a really simple yet versatile blade that is used for everything up north. Hope to see you in the next one - Martin
Fantastic location....Scandinavia is very well wooded and certainly a large area with a varied history. Vikings of course a very successful people. As I watch I think about Nordic influences in the UK - especially in the North and Northumbria for example. The small farms...a bit like crofting in Scotland and it to has similar laws about wild camping. There is common ground. I enjoyed very much your talk. All the best to you. Mark.
I think you are right about the common ground between UK and Scandinavia. There used to be a lot of people moving back and forth doing trading, raiding, farming, breeding and a lot of other things. Norway and Scotland are pretty similar. We have more trees and colder winters though :) Thank you a lot for watching - Martin
Hi Martin, I am a new subcriber of your channel. The nice scenerys, the interesting topics combined with a very good camera work is what I like on your videos. Very often I stop the video to study a while the composition. ATB Arnd
Nice video. Looking forward to the future videos sounds great. Would love to get up your way and see the Nordic countries. Maybe one day :) Hahaha would love to be there in the winter and watch the Biathlon. Anyway take care. Hope the warm weather gets to you we have finely got some cold weather and rain down here. Craig
+Craig Unwin The weather is getting warmer and I love it. If you don't like a challenge I think the Norwegian winters are a little over rated :) Thanks for watching - Martin
hey, I just stumbled upon your channel yesterday. i really love it. the length of your videos is great and also your pictures are amazing. i really learned a lot. this year i am finally able to spend some days in the Norwegian woods (Senja) aswell. keep your good work up! PS: germans love mora knives, so do i.
+der yoshi Glad you like my channel. I lived in Tromsø for a couple of years and that is not too far away from Senja. The nature is pretty different up there from what I am used to down south. It is really beautiful though. Hope you enjoy your trip :) I count you in for the draw - Martin
+NorwegianWoods I might have another question. do you think a plus four degree comfort zone sleeping bag is enough for the temperatures of average 12°C in the end of may in this area? best wishes from Germany!
I think that might be to push it. I remember the day I moved from Tromsø. It was the 9th of June and it was snowing sideways. If the weather is nice it should be ok. Just remember that this is quite a bit north of the arctic circle :)
Hello Martin- a fantastic channel! Beautiful natural scenery, very interesting...! You got a subscriber! I am personally like off the beaten track on the road... Many greetings from Berlin, Carlino Negro
Hi, scandi bushcraft and outdoor skills are really appealing- there's a bit of skill and romance about it that in my opinion is lacking from some DPM slathered British BC stuff. Trad outdoor living is a worthwhile pursuit; I'll keep watching, so keep making films. Thanks
Thank you for stopping by my friend. I think I am pretty fortunate to live here in Norway. We have a strong and living tradition on outdoor living over here. I try to learn as much as I can about this tradition and I have plans for many more videos. I have been a little short on time for filming lately but I hope this will change soon. I think there are many interesting videos from the UK. You have some nice traditions as well :) The wool sweater is made by my mother but you can get something similar from this place www.sweater.no See you on the next one - Martin
Some interesting topics there, for sure. I'd try bivvying here, but the wolves and bears might nibble on me a bit! That's a really sweet little cookset you have there, too. Enjoyed it, as always, take care.
What a beautiful place you live in Martin. I watch Odd, s channel a lot as well, and I've been to Norway, such a beautiful clean place, with nice people. I liked your history talk. You said that you viewed the swedes the Danes and the fins, as brothers and sisters, which is a nice thought, if you go back far enough in history we all come from the same people, really, we're all brothers and sisters, this world divides people though, don't you think. Lovely vid Martin, thank you my friend.
I feel blessed by having these woods right outside my doorstep. I also like Odd´s videos a lot. I like your as well :) I think we are all part of one humanity in this world. We are all relatives in one way or another. I see the Nordic people as brothers and sisters. People from other parts of this world is like uncles, aunts, cousins and second cousins. The family tree reaches all around the globe. In these strange days we live in I think it can be a challenge to find a healthy balance between having a strong root in ones own history and culture but still respect all the others. I see so many people that goes too far in either direction. These people either loose themselves or the connection to the world. Thanks a lot for watching - Martin
+NorwegianWoods interesting point you make Martin, particularly about strange times, why don't you have a look at 2 Timothy 3:1-5 in the Bible. I think you might be surprised. Thanks again Martin. Take care my friend
That scripture is a good description of our times. I don't think we should worry to much about the end of the world though. Remember Matthew 6:34 :) - Martin
+NorwegianWoods very true Martin, but I do look forward to revelation 21:3,4. I must say, it's nice to speak to someone who appreciates the scriptures.
Yes, that is the key to everything, isn't it. The madness we see around us has an end. For me the Bible put everything into perspective. It sure is nice to speak to others that appreciate the scriptures. I do not go to church all that often, but I like to read the Bible. I feel that I get closer to God when I go out to the woods than when I go to church. I have friends that go to some different churches but I never really feel at home in any of them. I even went on the path to become a priest in the Norwegian church, but after a couple of years in the university I realised that my belief didn't match the one of the church, so I quit. The Bible is a strange thing. It is so easy to read but still so difficult to understand.
Hey buddy, your camera work is getting really nice! I love the different shots from multiple positions, nice job. The history stuff is really interesting and looking forward to hearing more. I was wondering if it was difficult getting into the sleeping bag if the bivy does not have a zipper? Also, please count me in for the nice give a way, thanks! Gary
Just discovered your channel. Very interesting and relaxing stuff. Really looking forward to checking out the rest of your videos and future ones. ofc subbed. keep up the good work. hilsen fra Oslo.
+Randal Flagg I think Finland, Sweden and Iceland has the same rights as Norway. I also heard that Scotland has the same thing. Thanks for watching - Martin
Hey Martin where are you? I'm missing you and your high quality videos! I'm hoping you are still out there filmmaking and all is well with you. ATB from Canada my friend.
Hello Mark. I am still alive. There is a lot going on at work these days. Last weekend I did another small trip. I am trying to finish the editing on that video this week. There will be more videos coming soon :) - Martin
The Vikings were here in Portugal, perhaps they arrived in Africa, but they were the firsts europeens to reach the American continent, they found traces of them in the USA and in the Canadá. Adventure is IN YOURS blodd. Cheers.
The Vikings where traveling a lot all over the place. They also vent to Africa but they faced some strong resistance down there and didn't settle. It is pretty cool the they made it to America as well :) Thanks for stopping by - Martin
I learn at school(history) but i was not shure, about Africa(well, 35 years ago). If one day, you came to Porto, Portugal, image the Vikings there, BIG FIGHT! They came several times! At that time we were worse than the Vikings, nor the Romans managed to conquer the city of the Porto, With the Spaniards was permanent war, the Napoleon was defeated three times! Now we are peaceful, at least in the last 130 years, everything is calm and we like your fish a lot: cod. In the last two years many tourists from Scandinavia have come, I hope they come back again.
+Mark Thomas Hobbies My mother made it for me a few years ago. If you know anyone that enjoy knitting maybe they could make you one as well :) Thanks for watching - Martin
Snygg film som vanligt! Jag funderar på att skaffa liknande sovsystem med bivy, så ser gärna framemot fler filmer med detta. vilket märke är det på din bivy? ser framemot nästa film!
You talked a bit on the vikings. We have a viking villiage here in nfld, canada ,it's called L'anse aux meadous ,it's the first european settlement in north america .You can check it out on you tube.I enjoy your videos very much
The Viking history is a pretty fascinating topic. I have read a little bit about Leiv Eirikson. I have plans to make some more videos about that part of our history at some point. Thanks for watching - Martin
My dad's ancestors were Vikings who migrated to America hundreds of years ago via Nova Scotia, down into North Carolina, then they took the southern route of pioneers to settle in Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma & Texas. Thanks for watching - Martin
Love your episodes! The history, your footage, the soothing voice. Please keep the episodes coming.
Thanks my friend. I have plans for more videos. I have been a little busy with life lately but I sure hope to post videos more frequently soon :)

Camp here and i would forget to go home!! As they say, heaven and earth are one!
Nice video.

Thanks for stopping by. History is interesting. If we look deep into it a lot of us has a lot in common :)

It's really beautiful scenery.
Thanks for sharing video.

Finally! Another high quality video! Thank you for this very informative video, and hopefully more will come soon! I've been waiting a while, good to see you back. I hope everything's well.
+jeger26 It is good to be back. Glad you liked the video :)
Hopefully it will not be too long until the next one - Martin
+NorwegianWoods yeah hopefully it'll be soon, this is by far my favorite UA-cam account. You have a unique style of making these videos and your channel hits with my two favorite topics; outdoors and Scandinavian history. Very good channel my friend, keep up the good work!

Good information. Thank you for sharing. It is so important to keep the history alive and never forget.
I agree on that my friend. History is important on many levels :)
Thanks a lot for watching - Martin
Take care and enjoy the outdoors :)
- Martin
thank you for the history on the area it opens my ideas for my own bush craft / woodsman / long hunter kit
Glad you like the video :)
Good luck with your kit - Martin
I like what your doing with your channel love watching, im also from scandinavian history (Denmark) from my mothers side so i am very interested in the history that you put in your videos please keep them coming great job enjoy.

I subscribed a couple weeks ago and was glad to see a new video show up on the list! I like that you take the time to shoot the landscape around you in addition to the topic you're covering in the videos. Keep 'em coming!
+Nathan Sandver Glad you like the videos :)
See you on the next one - Martin
love the small knives and the leather bag etc ...class
Thanks :)
That will really challenge your wife :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
I have heard that is truly a "Wilderness Food". I must get the courage to try it!
It is actually pretty nice if you eat it the right way. The Swedish Surstömming is supposed to be a lot worse :)
Perhaps that's what I was thinking of.
Both are fermented fish with a lot of taste and smell.
The history of your country is always interesting. Thank you for sharing
Glad you liked it :)
- Martin
Martin, I enjoyed the video and are looking forward to more on the your heritage and the Vikings.
+Dennis Bowman I have some plans on the viking theme. Hope I will be able to make something soon :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
Another great video. looking forward to learning more about the old woodsman techniques as well as the new ones.
Thanks :)

There are a lot to see and a lot to learn so I don't think I will run out of stuff to film anytime soon :)
Thank you for watching - Martin
It is a really interesting history though :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
your sleep system looked like it's warm.Enjoyed seeing the scenery of your country. would like to hear more about the history.

Thanks Colin. I have a couple of Moras. They make good knives for sure :)

Nice video. Hope you are making more. Back in the day when I was in the service we had a port visit in Norway. what a beautiful country and people.

+Just Outdoors Thanks for stopping by! I have had a few trips since my last video but I didn't have the opportunity to film it.

I am glad thing have turned a little better :)
Thank you for watching - Martin
Awesome video. So much like my home.
Thanks for stopping by. Glad you like the video :)

Great video martin that looked a great palce to camp next to the loch atb stuart
+SCOTTISH WANDERER It was a nice spot. Usually where I stayed is an island but now they have lowered the water levels so it is possible to walk out there.

Your videos are very good, both in quality and information. I find it very interesting to learn about fellow European countries' cultutre and history alongside as well. I'm looking for more. Greetings from Hungary.
+Péter Bubla Thank you for the kind words :)
- Martin
Thanks for another video! Very interesting and some really nice scenery and timelapses, the new camera seems to work well.
Maybe a small tip, when you got your sleeping matras and bivvy bag out of their stuffsacks, I always put a rock, waterbottle or a knee on it, they can fly away really easy I have learned. Especially when you go higher up.
And thanks for the tips about traveling in Norway, I'm planning a trip this summer, but hadn't heard about DNT before.
Man, I'd love to go live in Scandinavia some day, or at least have a cabin or something :D
Have fun outdoors!
+Erinaceus Europaeus Thanks for the tips. I can imagine that it is easy for the wind to snatch that kind of equipment and make it fly. Maybe I see you in the woods around here some day :)
Glad you liked the video - Martin
Great information! Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Looks like a really nice place to camp as well. Being of Finnish/Norwegian descent myself, I would love to visit both countries at some point in the future.
Congratulations on the growth of the channel! I know I have enjoyed your videos and I have not even finished going through the back catalog (I am new to the channel).
Would love to be in the drawing for the knife and book!

Martin,
thanks very much for such an interesting video.
I am looking forward to learn more about this part of history myself :)
Atb - Martin
+NorwegianWoods my great grandparents emigrated from Finland and Lithuania a bit after the Norwegians did. and probably for the same reasons.
Count me in for the giveaway!
It's inspiring to see/hear your history in English. Embarrassingly, I only know English and I have a difficult time explaining things as well as you have in a foreign tongue. Thank you and I hope to see more!
+Yoo Toob Glad you liked it! You're in :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
Regards,
Tony
What a nice video again Martin! Beautiful surrounding and filming is it Böksjön? its fantastically inspiring anyway, and thumb up with history, go for it its very interesting.. thanks for that!
Thanks for the kind words. This is filmed by Store Erte, a lake about 5 kilometres north-west from Böksjön. I have plans for more videos on history :)

Thank you for the kind words! I hope you get a good experience when you come to scandinavia. If you go in the summer months you should bring something against the mosquitos as well :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
NorwegianWoods hi martin. i have no doubt about the good experience in scandinavia. and thank you really much for the mosquitos tips.
Hey ! Says the Canadian
sausages again, lol . The gears or artifact are so beautiful. The history oldo summary was great. Here in Canada viking sail as far west as now call newfoundland, we found a few artifact, that was before Columbus. Anyway nice beauty shot. thank you.
Yep, more sausages :) The American Viking history is pretty interesting. I have read a little bit about it.
Thanks for watching - Martin
Amazing stuff! Just about a month ago read couple of books of Trygve Gulbranssen! Really impressed with those times. Of course the viking era is very interesting, but it isn't the only one interesting era in the history of Scandinavia. Thanks for a vid!
Nice video overall and I hope to hear more from you! I might actually be interested in entering the giveaway. I really liked Cody Lundin's attitude on Dual Survival and he is a wise man indeed. I've been tempted to order his books as well.
+Jari Perho Glad you liked the video. I count you in for the draw :)

Hi Martin, nice sleep set up which looks pretty cozy. Skandinavia has a long outdoor tradition and this is still alive from my point of view since a lots of people practicing it.
Congrats to your growing channel, l will participate on the givaway ;-)

Wonderful video and I'm interested in the 4 topics you'll be talking about soon. I'm very interested in the Nenets in Russia so I'm looking forward to your Saami topic. Another great video by you, especially the shots on the lake! All the best, Stella
+Stella P. RT Documentary. They have videos about what you want.
+Stella P. There are a lot of interesting history I want to look more into regarding the Arctic people. I did a course on the Sami religion a few years back. Maybe that could be a topic for an interesting video some time. I don't think I will run out of stuff to make videos about anytime soon :)
Glad you like the video - Martin
+Ade Larsen Hi, Ade. Thanks for the info!
+NorwegianWoods That would be a great topic Martin.
Giveaway looks really interesting too ~ some useful stuff!
Keep up the great videos :)
+Flynn Owen I guess it is the same thing for me. As kids me and my friends played out in the woods all the time. The bushcraft thing is more of a new word put on old things. Glad you like the video. I count you in for the draw :)
Thanks a lot for watching - Martin
Thank you for your nice videos, advice and scenery! And hello from subscriber in Finland.
Thanks for stopping by. I guess you have some similar scenery in Finland as well :)
See you on the next one - Martin
Yup, very familiar scenery. :)
We have more trees and colder winters though :)
Thank you a lot for watching - Martin
NorwegianWoods A pleasure to comment Martin. I can see, hear and sense your passion for the history and outdoors. I'll be back. ATB Mark.
Hi, I know you do a lot of gear films now but I do hope your do some more like this. Great channel my friend.
Hi Martin, I am a new subcriber of your channel. The nice scenerys, the interesting topics combined with a very good camera work is what I like on your videos. Very often I stop the video to study a while the composition.

If you don't like a challenge I think the Norwegian winters are a little over rated :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
your channel calms the soul. so nice
Wonderful info and great video thnx so much
Thanks :)
- Martin
hey, I just stumbled upon your channel yesterday. i really love it. the length of your videos is great and also your pictures are amazing. i really learned a lot. this year i am finally able to spend some days in the Norwegian woods (Senja) aswell.
keep your good work up!
PS: germans love mora knives, so do i.
+der yoshi Glad you like my channel. I lived in Tromsø for a couple of years and that is not too far away from Senja. The nature is pretty different up there from what I am used to down south. It is really beautiful though. Hope you enjoy your trip :)
I count you in for the draw - Martin
+NorwegianWoods I might have another question. do you think a plus four degree comfort zone sleeping bag is enough for the temperatures of average 12°C in the end of may in this area?
best wishes from Germany!
I think that might be to push it. I remember the day I moved from Tromsø. It was the 9th of June and it was snowing sideways. If the weather is nice it should be ok. Just remember that this is quite a bit north of the arctic circle :)
Love what your doing please keep it up
Thanks :)
More videos are coming soon - Martin
Hello Martin- a fantastic channel! Beautiful natural scenery, very interesting...! You got a subscriber! I am personally like off the beaten track on the road... Many greetings from Berlin, Carlino Negro
Thanks you for stopping by. I am glad to have you on board :)

Hi, scandi bushcraft and outdoor skills are really appealing- there's a bit of skill and romance about it that in my opinion is lacking from some DPM slathered British BC stuff.
Trad outdoor living is a worthwhile pursuit; I'll keep watching, so keep making films.
Thanks
Also- where's your sensational wooly pully from? I want one for under my smock!
You have some nice traditions as well :) The wool sweater is made by my mother but you can get something similar from this place www.sweater.no
See you on the next one - Martin
Great vid, enjoyed the history.
+Wildernessing in the Rockies Glad you liked it :)
Thanks for watching - Martin
Some interesting topics there, for sure. I'd try bivvying here, but the wolves and bears might nibble on me a bit! That's a really sweet little cookset you have there, too. Enjoyed it, as always, take care.
We don't have that much trouble with large predators around here. I am a bit worried about the ticks though...
- Martin
What a beautiful place you live in Martin. I watch Odd, s channel a lot as well, and I've been to Norway, such a beautiful clean place, with nice people. I liked your history talk. You said that you viewed the swedes the Danes and the fins, as brothers and sisters, which is a nice thought, if you go back far enough in history we all come from the same people, really, we're all brothers and sisters, this world divides people though, don't you think. Lovely vid Martin, thank you my friend.
I feel blessed by having these woods right outside my doorstep. I also like Odd´s videos a lot. I like your as well :)
I think we are all part of one humanity in this world.
Remember Matthew 6:34 :)
- Martin
Great videos so far and congrats to 1k subs man! :-)
+Petr Bláha Thank you my friend :)
- Martin
Hey buddy, your camera work is getting really nice! I love the different shots from multiple positions, nice job. The history stuff is really interesting and looking forward to hearing more. I was wondering if it was difficult getting into the sleeping bag if the bivy does not have a zipper? Also, please count me in for the nice give a way, thanks! Gary

The Vikings were here in Portugal, perhaps they arrived in Africa, but they were the firsts europeens to reach the American continent, they found traces of them in the USA and in the Canadá. Adventure is IN YOURS blodd. Cheers.
Hello. According to the Norse Sagas, at least Harald Hardrada arrived in Africa on his way home from the Byzants.
The Vikings where traveling a lot all over the place. They also vent to Africa but they faced some strong resistance down there and didn't settle. It is pretty cool the they made it to America as well :)
Thanks for stopping by - Martin
I learn at school(history) but i was not shure, about Africa(well, 35 years ago). If one day, you came to Porto, Portugal, image the Vikings there, BIG FIGHT! They came several times!
At that time we were worse than the Vikings, nor the Romans managed to conquer the city of the Porto, With the Spaniards was permanent war, the Napoleon was defeated three times! Now we are peaceful, at least in the last 130 years, everything is calm and we like your fish a lot: cod.
In the last two years many tourists from Scandinavia have come, I hope they come back again.

The Viking history is a pretty fascinating topic. I have read a little bit about Leiv Eirikson. I have plans to make some more videos about that part of our history at some point.
