Thank you Alan. The learning curve of the woods is a lifetime. That’s why I love it. Have a great holiday season. Stay tuned, I saved one of the best tricks for last on the tarp series. Lisa
Finally, I've tried it and set it up. All works very well, the knots are well chosen. Thanks again! I'm really grateful for that setup, espacially for the easy adjustment of height!
Thanks for the Informative video! Is that 10x12 tarp? What tarp material & size would you recommend for camp kitchen? Thanks for making this video- Jack
Lee, my friend Jane Barron Alder Stream Canvas made those, sadly she doesn’t do the tarps anymore just the best canvas canoe packs ever. But one of the reasons it’s lasted so long is once set up nothing is touching the inside of the tarp. No rope ridge line rubbing a hole in the center seam of your tarp every time the wind blows.
Those are my setting poles. I haven’t paddled a rapid in 30 years. But funny thing regular poles are laying all over the woods almost like they grew on trees. Just pick 2 about 10 ft long.
Yes. Canoe poles. I always take 2 one made of ash made by Peavey Manufacturers East Eddington Maine and one made of black spruce made by Kevin Silliker. He’s from Canada but I pick them up at the Maine Canoe Symposium when I can. We both teach poling, among other things, and he sells them after his classes.
You are a living legend. Thank you for sharing your hard-won knowledge!
My pleasure!
You are one of my favorite ways to ensure that I never stop learning 😊

Thank you Shawn. To you and yours as well.
Nice tarp set up, will practice it, and its proper knots.
Really enjoying your videos, keep up the great work!
Thank you very much! I got it now.
Great setup. Simple and elaborate at the same time. I"m looking forward to do it like that.

Excellent…thank you!
Great video, very helpful. What size is your tarp?
What a plug for a tarp! 22 yrs old! Can I ask the make? Great video as usual!

Wow 22 years, what brand of tarp is that and what size?
Well worth the extra 2 minutes. So ... you bring those nice, smooth poles with you? Got your money's worth out of that tarp. Thanks for the video.

@@Mainepolingguide I've seen them! But they are never as nice and smooth. What is a "setting" pole? Canoe pole?

@@Mainepolingguide Thanks. Lots of black ash and black spruce around here. I'll give it a go.
If I just spent 5 minutes with a Maine guide, does that mean you're also playing the guitar?? 👀🤙
I wish I could play an instrument, but sadly no. Thanks for watching.
